To pair Huawei FreeBuds Neo, place both earbuds in their open charging case, hold the case Function button for two seconds until the indicator flashes, then select FreeBuds Neo in your device’s Bluetooth settings. Android and iPhone use their normal Bluetooth screens; Windows 10 and Windows 11 use Start > Settings > Devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth.
The earbuds work with Android, iOS, and Windows. They also support Huawei’s Multi connect feature for two Bluetooth devices at once, although audio must be switched by pausing or disconnecting the device currently playing, and Huawei excludes MacBook laptops from the documented dual-device feature.
Before pairing: put FreeBuds Neo into discovery mode
The same pairing-mode procedure is used for Android phones, iPhones, Windows PCs, and subsequent reconnections.
- Place both FreeBuds Neo earbuds in the charging case.
- Leave the case lid open.
- Press and hold the case Function button for two seconds.
- Release the button when the case indicator begins flashing. The flashing indicator means the earbuds are ready to be selected from a Bluetooth device.
If the indicator is not flashing, the host device may not find the earbuds. Repeat these steps immediately before opening the Bluetooth list and scanning again.

- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)

- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Pair FreeBuds Neo with an Android phone or tablet
Huawei confirms FreeBuds Neo compatibility with Android. Once the earbuds are flashing in pairing mode, use Android’s standard Bluetooth controls.
- Open Settings on the Android device.
- Open Bluetooth. On some Android versions, Bluetooth is inside Connected devices; use the Bluetooth settings page that lists nearby devices.
- Turn Bluetooth on if it is off and wait for nearby devices to populate.
- Tap FreeBuds Neo in the available-device list.
- Accept any pairing prompt shown by Android. When the entry changes to a connected or paired state, audio can use the earbuds.
For later connections, open the case near the same Android device and select the existing FreeBuds Neo entry if Android does not reconnect automatically. If you removed the entry or unpaired the earbuds, use the full pairing-mode procedure again; Huawei says reconnection after unpairing follows the same process as the first connection.
Optional Android app features
Bluetooth pairing supplies the basic audio connection. After the connection is established, Huawei recommends using either the AI Life app or HUAWEI Audio Connect for supported earbud controls and updates. Huawei’s product information specifies HUAWEI Audio Connect availability for Android 8.0 or later. App availability and individual controls can vary by phone, operating-system version, and region, so install the app only after the Bluetooth connection is working.

- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Put both earbuds in the charging case and keep the lid open.
- Hold the case Function button for two seconds, releasing it when the indicator flashes.
- On the iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Bluetooth.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled and wait under Other Devices.
- Tap FreeBuds Neo when it appears.
- Wait for iOS to move the earbuds into the connected-device list before playing audio.
If the earbuds were previously removed from the iPhone’s Bluetooth list, repeat the two-second Function-button procedure rather than relying on the old record. The earbuds must be discoverable while the iPhone scans.
iPhone and iPad app compatibility
HUAWEI Audio Connect support is specified for iOS 13.0 and iPadOS 13.0 or later. The app is optional: the iPhone’s Bluetooth connection is sufficient for ordinary listening. Use the app after pairing when you need the additional controls or update functions Huawei makes available for the model and operating system.
Pair FreeBuds Neo with Windows 10 or Windows 11
Huawei lists Windows as a supported platform. On a Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC, first put the earbuds into pairing mode with the open case and flashing indicator, then use the system Bluetooth wizard.

- Choose Bluetooth in the device-type picker.
- Wait for Windows to scan and select FreeBuds Neo from the results.
- Wait for Windows to report that the device is ready. The earbuds should then appear as a paired Bluetooth device.
- Choose FreeBuds Neo as the playback device if Windows continues sending sound to its speakers or another headset. This selection is made from Windows’ sound-output controls rather than from the pairing wizard.
When a desktop has no Bluetooth
Some desktop PCs do not include built-in Bluetooth. A USB Bluetooth adapter is a possible accessory route: install the adapter and its Windows driver if required, then repeat the Windows pairing steps. Huawei’s support instructions do not specify a particular adapter model, so verify that any adapter you choose supports Bluetooth audio and your version of Windows.

Android, iPhone, and Windows pairing paths at a glance
| Host | Bluetooth menu | What to select | App note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Android phone or tablet | Settings > Bluetooth (or the Bluetooth page under Connected devices) | FreeBuds Neo | AI Life or HUAWEI Audio Connect is optional; HUAWEI Audio Connect is specified for Android 8.0 or later. |
| iPhone or iPad | Settings > Bluetooth | FreeBuds Neo under Other Devices | HUAWEI Audio Connect support is specified for iOS 13.0/iPadOS 13.0 or later. |
| Windows 10/11 | Start > Settings > Devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth | FreeBuds Neo | No Huawei app is required for the Bluetooth pairing procedure. |
Regardless of platform, the case must be open and its indicator must be flashing before the host scans.
What to do when FreeBuds Neo do not appear
Most discovery problems occur because the earbuds are not currently in pairing mode or the host is displaying an old Bluetooth record. Work through these checks in order.
1. Re-enter pairing mode before scanning
Put both earbuds in the open case and hold the Function button for two seconds until the indicator flashes. Then reopen the Bluetooth page and scan again. Starting a new scan without first making the indicator flash may leave the earbuds undiscoverable.

2. Remove a stale Bluetooth entry
If Android, iPhone, or Windows keeps selecting an old FreeBuds Neo record, remove or forget that entry from the host’s Bluetooth list. Then repeat the pairing-mode procedure and select the newly displayed FreeBuds Neo entry. This practical cleanup prevents the operating system from attempting to use an outdated pairing record.

3. Reset a newly purchased single earbud or charging case
Huawei gives a reset path for a newly purchased single earbud or charging case. Place both earbuds in the case, open the lid, and hold the case control to reset the set to factory settings. After the reset completes, put the earbuds back into pairing mode and pair them from the host’s Bluetooth screen.
The reset is different from merely opening the Bluetooth menu: it clears the earbud set’s pairing state so it can be established again. Because Huawei’s instruction does not specify a universal hold time for this reset, follow the indicator behavior and the instructions supplied for your particular unit if they provide additional prompts.
4. Check whether another device is already using the connection
FreeBuds Neo can maintain connections with two Bluetooth devices when Multi connect is supported and configured. If another phone, tablet, PC, or watch is connected, pause its audio or disconnect it before trying to make the earbuds available to a different host. This is especially relevant when one device appears connected while a second device cannot start playback.
5. Check the Windows Bluetooth hardware
On a desktop, the absence of a built-in Bluetooth radio prevents the Windows Add Bluetooth wizard from finding the earbuds. Use a compatible USB Bluetooth adapter, let Windows install its driver, and run the pairing procedure again. The Huawei instructions do not identify a specific adapter.

Using FreeBuds Neo with two Bluetooth devices
Huawei states that the earphones support simultaneous connection to two Bluetooth devices, including examples such as mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and watches. Huawei’s documented exception is the MacBook series, which is not compatible with this dual-connect feature.
Huawei’s Connection center documentation lists FreeBuds Neo among the models that support Multi connect. The feature allows two devices to remain connected and lets you switch between them, but it does not mean that both devices’ audio streams play through the earbuds at the same time.
How switching works
- Pair FreeBuds Neo with the first host using the normal Android, iPhone, or Windows procedure.
- Pair them with the second supported Bluetooth host using the same open-case, two-second Function-button method when the second host needs to discover them.
- When both devices are connected, pause the audio on the device currently playing.
- Start playback on the other device. If the switch does not occur, disconnect the current device and then start audio on the other one.
Huawei specifically describes pausing or disconnecting the current device as the way to hear the other connected device. The practical result is two-device standby with manual audio hand-off, not unrestricted simultaneous listening.
Devices covered by Huawei’s description
| Device type | Multi connect status |
|---|---|
| Mobile phones | Listed as an example of a supported Bluetooth device. |
| Tablets | Listed as an example of a supported Bluetooth device. |
| Windows PCs | Listed as an example of a supported Bluetooth device. |
| Watches | Listed as an example of a supported Bluetooth device. |
| MacBook laptops | Excluded from Huawei’s documented dual-connect compatibility. |
If reliable two-device switching is important, treat the MacBook exclusion separately from ordinary one-device Bluetooth pairing: Huawei supports FreeBuds Neo with Windows, iOS, and Android for basic connections, but does not document MacBook support for Multi connect.
Bluetooth connection versus Huawei app features
A standard Bluetooth pairing gives you the core connection for listening. Huawei recommends AI Life or HUAWEI Audio Connect after pairing when you want additional supported earbud features or updates.
- Android: HUAWEI Audio Connect support is specified for Android 8.0 or later.
- iPhone and iPad: HUAWEI Audio Connect support is specified for iOS 13.0 and iPadOS 13.0 or later.
- Windows: The documented pairing path uses Windows Bluetooth settings; the Huawei app is not required to complete that connection.
App support does not replace the case-button pairing step. Establish the Bluetooth connection first, then open the compatible Huawei app if you need the functions it offers for your device and operating-system version.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Closing the case before scanning: Pairing mode is established with both earbuds inside and the lid open. Closing the lid can end the discovery attempt.
- Holding the button for less than two seconds: The indicator must flash before the phone or PC scans.
- Searching only from an app: Start in Android, iPhone, or Windows Bluetooth settings. Huawei’s apps are optional follow-up tools.
- Expecting two audio streams at once: Multi connect keeps two Bluetooth devices connected, but Huawei instructs you to pause or disconnect the current device to switch audio.
- Assuming MacBook works with Multi connect because other computers do: Huawei’s documentation specifically excludes MacBook laptops from the dual-connect feature.
- Repeating a scan without clearing an old record: Forget a stale FreeBuds Neo entry, put the earbuds into pairing mode again, and select the fresh entry.
