Put your headphones into Bluetooth pairing mode, then on your Galaxy phone go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on if needed, and select the headphones. Tap Pair or follow the prompt on screen. The headphone maker’s instructions determine how to enter pairing mode; there is no single button sequence that works for every model.
Pair headphones from Galaxy Bluetooth settings
- Put the headphones in pairing mode. Turn them on and use the pairing procedure in their manual. Depending on the model, this may involve a button, touch control, or charging case. If the headphones were already paired with another device, consult their instructions for how to make them discoverable again.
- Open Bluetooth settings. On the phone, go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth. Turn Bluetooth on if it is off, then wait for nearby devices to appear.
- Select the headphones. Tap their name in the available-device list. Tap Pair or accept the phone’s prompt. If a PIN or another confirmation is requested, follow the instructions shown on the phone and in the headphone manual; there is no universal PIN to assume.
- Check the connection. The headphones should appear as paired or connected. If they are paired but not currently connected, select them from the Bluetooth device list to connect.
Samsung notes that a Galaxy phone cannot detect or connect to a Bluetooth device that is not in pairing mode. Menu wording and screens can vary by phone model and software version. Some accessories may also require a manufacturer’s support app or additional instructions. See Samsung’s Bluetooth pairing guide and the headphone maker’s manual if you do not see the device.
Other ways to open Bluetooth discovery
Quick settings
On supported Galaxy screens, Quick settings provides a shortcut to Bluetooth controls. It can be a convenient way to reach the same pairing controls; the full Settings route above is the direct path. The available controls vary with the phone and software. Samsung explains the Quick settings option.

SmartThings is an optional alternative, not a requirement for ordinary Bluetooth pairing. In the SmartThings app, use Devices > Add > Scan nearby while the headphones are in pairing mode, then follow the prompts. See Samsung’s SmartThings Bluetooth instructions.

If the headphones do not appear or connect
They do not appear in the list
- Make sure the headphones are powered on and sufficiently charged.
- Check the manual to confirm they are in Bluetooth pairing mode. Turning them on alone may not make them discoverable.
- Keep the headphones near the phone and wait briefly for the list to refresh.
- If the model requires a support app or a particular setup procedure, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
They were paired before but will not reconnect
Remove the saved pairing and set it up again: open Settings > Connections > Bluetooth, open the settings for the headphone entry, and choose Unpair. Put the headphones back into pairing mode, then select them from the available-device list and pair again. Samsung recommends this approach for a failed reconnection; see its Bluetooth connection troubleshooting guide.
Pairing still fails
Restart both the phone and headphones, then check for software updates. If the problem continues, Samsung’s troubleshooting guide includes a Wi-Fi/Bluetooth settings reset. Use it only after simpler steps: resetting removes saved connection information, so you may need to reconnect or pair other devices afterward.

The headphones connect, but a feature does not work
Check the paired device’s settings on the phone and the accessory maker’s guidance. Available options depend on the headset. For example, Samsung’s UK guide advises checking whether call use is enabled for a headset; its detailed menu examples were updated on 13 June 2022, so screens may differ on current phones. Galaxy Buds pairing procedures can differ
Do not apply one Galaxy Buds pairing sequence to all headphones—or even assume every Buds generation uses the same controls. Samsung’s current troubleshooting guidance distinguishes generations: for example, Buds3 and Buds3 Pro use the case pairing button, while other generations use different procedures. Follow the instructions for your exact model in Samsung’s troubleshooting guide.
