The Razer BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed has three connection options: 2.4 GHz wireless through its USB dongle, Bluetooth, and wired USB. Choose the dongle for low-latency wireless on a compatible USB host, Bluetooth for phones and other Bluetooth-audio devices, or USB when you want audio while the headset charges. To pair in the Razer Audio App, switch the headset to Bluetooth mode, hold the power button until the status light blinks blue, tap Add Devices, and select BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
The headset does not combine audio from 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth at the same time. A single press of SmartSwitch changes between HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth. Basic operation is plug-and-play; 7.1 Surround Sound, equalizer tuning, and microphone enhancements require Razer Synapse 4 on a Windows PC.
Choose the connection that fits your host
Razer describes three modes of connectivity for this headset: “2.4GHz wireless via the USB Dongle, Bluetooth, and USB.” Each mode has a different host requirement and use case.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →| Mode | What you need | Best use | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz HyperSpeed Wireless | The included USB dongle and a compatible USB host | Wireless gaming or computer audio when the host has a free USB port | Audio is not mixed simultaneously with Bluetooth |
| Bluetooth | A host that supports Bluetooth audio; the Razer Audio App can perform the verified pairing workflow | Phones, tablets, compatible computers, and handheld devices | Audio does not play simultaneously with the 2.4 GHz mode |
| USB | A USB connection to the host and a suitable charging/data cable | Plug-and-play wired audio, including use while charging | It is a wired connection rather than a wireless mode |
If you want wireless audio and the host has USB, start with the dongle. If the host has no available USB port but does support Bluetooth audio, use Bluetooth. If the battery is low or you want the simplest connection, use USB wired mode.

Check the headset edition before connecting a console
Look at the label, packaging, or model information before advising a console pairing method. The multi-platform model is identified by model number RZ04-054201. A Razer Support representative said this version works with PS5, PS4, PC, Mac, smartphones, tablets, and handheld devices that provide Bluetooth audio or USB-A.
That same support reply, dated December 5, 2025, specifically says the multi-platform headset cannot pair with the Xbox HyperSpeed Wireless Replacement Dongle. That replacement dongle is for the Xbox edition of the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed and the Razer Kaira HyperSpeed – Xbox Licensed. Do not try to make the standard multi-platform dongle and the Xbox replacement dongle interchangeable.
- Using PS5 or PS4: Confirm that you have the multi-platform edition if you plan to use its USB dongle or Bluetooth/USB capabilities.
- Using Xbox: Verify that the headset is the Xbox edition and use the Xbox-compatible dongle intended for that edition. The multi-platform model is not made compatible by installing software or changing a console setting.
- Using a computer, phone, tablet, or handheld: Check whether the host offers a free USB-A connection for the dongle or Bluetooth audio for a wireless connection.
Set up 2.4 GHz wireless with the USB dongle
The official product and support pages establish that HyperSpeed wireless uses the supplied USB dongle. They do not publish a separate, routine manual re-pairing sequence in the readable support instructions, so normal setup should begin with connecting the dongle rather than forcing a re-pair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Locate the USB dongle supplied with the headset. Keep the headset and dongle together; do not substitute an Xbox replacement dongle for the multi-platform model.
- Insert the dongle into a supported USB port on the computer or other host. If your host offers both USB-A and another connector type, use an appropriate adapter only if it preserves a proper data connection; a charging-only adapter cannot carry audio.
- Turn on the headset and allow the host a moment to recognize the wireless audio device.
- Open the host’s sound controls. On Windows, go to Settings > System > Sound; on macOS, open System Settings > Sound. Select the BlackShark headset as the output device and, when you want to use its microphone, as the input device.
- Start a short audio clip and speak into the microphone to confirm both directions of audio. If the host selected another output or input automatically, change those selections manually.
On a console or handheld, use the platform’s audio-device settings to choose the headset when it is not selected automatically. The exact menu wording varies by platform and software version; the material point is that the USB dongle must be connected to a supported host and the headset must be selected for output and, where available, microphone input.
When the dongle appears connected but there is no sound
- Check that the dongle is fully seated in the USB port and that the host recognizes a new audio device.
- Confirm the headset is powered on and not muted.
- Open the host’s output selector instead of relying on the application’s default device. Games and meeting apps can retain a previously selected output.
- Check the input selector separately if playback works but the microphone does not.
- Do not begin an Xbox replacement-dongle pairing procedure unless the headset is the Xbox edition that supports that dongle.
Pair Bluetooth through the Razer Audio App
Razer’s model-specific support instructions provide this app workflow. It avoids guessing at a universal button sequence that may differ between operating systems.

- Switch the headset to Bluetooth mode. If it is currently using HyperSpeed wireless, press SmartSwitch once to change modes.
- Hold the headset’s power button to enter Bluetooth pairing mode. The status light blinks blue while the headset is ready to be discovered.
- Open the Razer Audio App on the Bluetooth-capable device.
- Tap Add Devices.
- Select BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed from the device list.
- After the app completes the connection, play audio and verify that the headset is the selected output. If you intend to use the boom microphone, select the headset as the input as well.
If the model does not appear, return the headset to Bluetooth mode and repeat the pairing step only after the light is blinking blue. Keep the headset near the host during discovery and close any earlier connection attempt that is still waiting. The support instructions establish the blue-blinking state and the app’s Add Devices path; they do not establish a single universal Windows, macOS, or mobile Bluetooth-menu sequence, so the host’s own Bluetooth documentation remains the authority for any additional menu prompts.
Switch between Bluetooth and HyperSpeed
SmartSwitch controls the two wireless radios. Razer’s support page states that a single press of SmartSwitch changes between HyperSpeed Wireless and Bluetooth.
- Stop playback briefly if you want to avoid interrupting a call or game.
- Press SmartSwitch once.
- Wait for the headset to move to the other wireless mode, then resume playback.
- If the host does not follow the change automatically, open its sound settings and select the headset again as output and input.
The headset does not provide simultaneous audio from Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless. Switching is a choice between the two modes, not a mixer that sends game audio to one device and phone audio to the other at the same time.
Use USB wired mode and charge at the same time
Connect the headset to a supported host by USB when you want a wired audio path. Razer says USB wired mode provides audio passthrough while charging, so you can continue listening while the battery replenishes.
- Connect the headset to the host with a suitable USB charging/data cable.
- Wait for the host to recognize the wired audio device.
- In the host’s sound controls, choose the headset for output and microphone input if those selections are not made automatically.
- Play a short test sound and make a brief recording or voice call to verify both playback and microphone input.
The product FAQ describes the headset as plug-and-play across supported platforms. Basic wired use therefore does not require Synapse. If the host only supplies power but does not expose an audio device, check that the cable and adapter support data and that the host’s USB port supports audio peripherals.

Install software only when you need the advanced features
Razer states that basic use does not require Synapse. On a Windows PC, install the supported Razer Synapse 4 software when you need the headset’s 7.1 Surround Sound, equalizer tuning, or microphone enhancements.
What works without Synapse
- Connecting through the USB dongle
- Pairing through the Razer Audio App over Bluetooth
- USB wired audio and charging
- Choosing the headset as the host’s output and input device
- Using the physical mute control and SmartSwitch
What requires Synapse on Windows
- 7.1 Surround Sound
- EQ tuning
- Microphone enhancements
Synapse is a Windows-PC requirement for those enhancements; it is not a prerequisite for ordinary audio playback, Bluetooth pairing, dongle operation, or wired USB use. If you are configuring a Mac, phone, tablet, console, or handheld, do not expect Windows Synapse controls to be available on that host.
Set the correct output and microphone device
Many apparent pairing failures are actually host-routing problems. A connection can be active while an application continues sending sound to speakers or another headset.
- Open the host’s system sound settings after connecting by dongle, Bluetooth, or USB.
- Set BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed as the output device for playback.
- Set it as the input device when you want to use the headset microphone.
- Check the individual game, call, or media application for its own output and input selections; an application can override the system default.
- Play audio and speak while watching the host’s input meter. This separates a playback-routing problem from a microphone problem.
If the microphone is silent
Razer’s troubleshooting guidance starts with two checks: make sure the microphone mute toggle is off and make sure the headset is selected as the host’s input device.
- Move the physical mute control to the unmuted position.
- Reopen the host’s input selector and choose the BlackShark headset rather than a built-in laptop or controller microphone.
- Check the application’s microphone permission and its own input-device menu.
- Speak close enough to the boom microphone for the input meter to respond, then test again in another application.
Platform setup notes
Windows PC
Use the USB dongle for HyperSpeed wireless, the Razer Audio App workflow for Bluetooth, or USB for wired audio. In Settings > System > Sound, set separate output and input devices as needed. Install Synapse 4 only if you want 7.1 Surround Sound, EQ tuning, or microphone enhancements.

Mac
The multi-platform edition is listed by Razer Support as compatible with Mac. Connect the USB dongle or use USB wired mode, then select the headset in System Settings > Sound. Bluetooth pairing should follow the verified Razer Audio App workflow: Bluetooth mode, hold the power button until the light blinks blue, then use Add Devices in the app.
PS5 and PS4
The multi-platform edition is listed as compatible with PS5 and PS4. For dongle use, connect the headset’s supplied USB dongle and choose the headset in the console’s audio settings if it is not selected automatically. Wired USB is another option. Confirm the edition before troubleshooting; the standard multi-platform model is not compatible with the Xbox replacement dongle.
Phones, tablets, and handheld devices
Razer Support lists the multi-platform model for smartphones, tablets, and handheld devices that provide Bluetooth audio or USB-A. Bluetooth requires the headset to be placed in Bluetooth mode and discovered through the Razer Audio App procedure. USB use requires a host port and cable or adapter that support audio data, not power alone.
Xbox
Do not assume that the multi-platform model will work with an Xbox replacement dongle. The December 5, 2025 Razer Support reply says that dongle is compatible with the Xbox edition of the BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed and with Razer Kaira HyperSpeed – Xbox Licensed. Verify the model edition and its intended dongle before attempting setup.

Charging expectations and battery figures
Razer’s undated US product FAQ, accessed October 13, 2026, publishes up to 70 hours of play time. The same FAQ associates a full charge with around 4.5 hours and says an approximately 15-minute charge provides about 6 hours of play time. These are manufacturer figures, not independent measurements; actual runtime varies with use and settings.
Best Value

USB wired mode is useful when you need to keep listening during charging. If you use a separate cable, verify that it supports charging and data before relying on it for wired audio.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The headset will not appear in the Razer Audio App
- Press SmartSwitch once so the headset is in Bluetooth mode.
- Hold the power button until the light blinks blue.
- In the app, tap Add Devices and look specifically for BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
- If it still does not appear, end the pending discovery attempt, keep the headset close to the host, and repeat the Bluetooth-mode and blue-light steps.
Bluetooth works, but the wrong device plays audio
Open the host’s sound settings and select the BlackShark headset as output. Then check the individual app, game, or call for a separate output choice. Pairing alone does not guarantee that every application changes its audio route.
The dongle is connected but the headset is missing from sound settings
Reconnect the dongle to a supported USB port, power-cycle the headset, and check the host’s available output and input devices. If you are using an Xbox replacement dongle with the multi-platform model, stop: that combination is not supported.
Playback works but voice chat does not
Set the headset as the input device, turn off the physical microphone mute, and select the same microphone inside the voice-chat application. Test the input meter in the host’s sound panel to determine whether the problem is system-wide or limited to one application.
The headset changes modes unexpectedly
Remember that SmartSwitch toggles between HyperSpeed and Bluetooth. A single press can move the headset away from the mode you intended to use. Press it once again, wait for the change, and reselect the headset in the host’s output and input menus if necessary.
Quick Recap
Final setup checklist
- Identify whether you have the multi-platform or Xbox edition.
- Choose one connection: USB dongle, Bluetooth, or wired USB.
- For Bluetooth App pairing, use Bluetooth mode, hold the power button until the light blinks blue, then choose Add Devices > BlackShark V3 X HyperSpeed.
- For dongle wireless, connect the supplied dongle and select the headset as output and input when the host does not do so automatically.
- For USB, use a data-capable cable and select the wired headset in the host’s sound controls.
- Use SmartSwitch to move between HyperSpeed and Bluetooth; do not expect simultaneous wireless audio.
- Install Synapse 4 on Windows only when you need 7.1 Surround Sound, EQ tuning, or microphone enhancements.
- If the microphone is silent, check the mute toggle and the selected input device first.
