The connection method depends on the device: use the included PlayStation Link USB adapter for a PS5 or compatible Windows PC/Mac, and use Bluetooth settings for a compatible phone. The adapter is paired with the headset out of the box, so PS5 and computer setup normally requires plugging it in and pressing the headset’s PS Link button.
Choose the right connection method
PULSE Elite does not use one universal pairing process. PlayStation Link is the documented path for a PS5 and for compatible Windows PCs or Macs with USB audio output. A phone connects through Bluetooth. Starting with the wrong method is the most common source of confusion: Sony’s computer instructions tell you to use the PS Link USB adapter rather than treating the headset as an ordinary Bluetooth computer headset.
| Device | Connection | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | PlayStation Link | Included PS Link USB adapter and a free USB-A port on the console |
| Compatible Windows PC or Mac | PlayStation Link | Included PS Link USB adapter, a USB-A port, and USB audio output |
| Compatible phone | Bluetooth | Phone with Bluetooth enabled; Sony cautions that not every device is compatible |
For Sony’s device-specific diagrams and the latest regional wording, see PlayStation Accessories support and the PULSE Elite connection instructions.

Decide whether you need PlayStation Link, Bluetooth, or both before pressing any buttons. PlayStation Link is the dedicated wireless link used by the included USB adapter. It is the route Sony documents for PS5 and compatible Windows PC/Mac use. Bluetooth is the route documented for compatible mobile devices. A phone does not need the USB adapter, while a PS5 or computer should not be approached as though it were simply another Bluetooth listing.

The included adapter is not an optional accessory for the standard setup. It arrives paired with the headset, so the normal process is physical connection of the adapter followed by turning on the headset. If you are moving between two PS Link devices, each destination needs a PS Link adapter available to it. The headset can remember devices, but it can listen to only one PS Link connection at a time.
Keep the timing distinctions in mind. A normal press of the PS Link button turns the headset on and starts a search for the last connected device. Holding it for about two seconds initiates a search for another previously paired device. Holding it for approximately eight seconds enters Bluetooth pairing mode. These are different actions, and using the wrong hold length can make the headset appear unresponsive or search for the wrong type of device.
Pair PULSE Elite with a PS5
What to prepare
- The PULSE Elite headset.
- The PlayStation Link USB adapter supplied with the headset.
- A USB-A port on the PS5.
Sony says the supplied adapter and headset are already paired at the factory. You therefore do not need to create a new Bluetooth pairing on the console.
Step-by-step PS5 setup
- Turn on the PS5.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter into a USB-A port on the console.
- Press the PS Link button on the PULSE Elite headset to turn it on.
- Wait for the headset and adapter to establish the PlayStation Link connection. While searching, the headset indicator slowly blinks blue; once connected, the indicator becomes solid. Sony support pages vary in the color they report for the solid state, so use the change from a slow blink to a steady indicator as the dependable sign and consult your regional guide if the color differs.
After connection, audio follows the PS Link path through the adapter. If the headset was last used with another paired PS Link device, it searches for its last connected device when powered on; the switching procedure below lets you start a connection to another saved device.
There is no separate console Bluetooth menu step in this procedure. If the adapter is plugged into the PS5 and the headset is on, give the link time to move from its slow search indication to a solid connected indication. If the headset was last connected to a computer or another adapter, use the two-second switching procedure instead of repeatedly restarting the PS5 Bluetooth settings.
Pair PULSE Elite with a Windows PC or Mac
Requirements and an important Bluetooth distinction
Use a compatible Windows PC or Mac that provides USB audio output and has a USB-A port for the included adapter. The official computer procedure is PlayStation Link through that adapter. The cited PC instructions do not describe pairing PULSE Elite to a computer over Bluetooth, so follow the adapter method rather than assuming the phone procedure applies to Windows or macOS.
Step-by-step computer setup
- Make sure the computer is running and supports USB audio output.
- Insert the included PlayStation Link USB adapter into a USB-A port on the computer.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button to turn it on.
- Wait while the adapter and headset connect. The adapter was paired with the headset out of the box, so a separate pairing command is normally unnecessary.
- If the operating system displays an audio-device or connection prompt, follow that on-screen prompt and select the PULSE Elite/PlayStation Link output when offered.
If your computer has only a different connector, use a setup that still provides a compatible USB-A connection for the supplied adapter. The support instructions establish the adapter and USB audio requirement, not a particular hub, dock, or adapter model.

Do not expect the phone’s “PULSE Elite” Bluetooth entry to be the documented computer setup. If the headset was previously used with a phone, a normal startup may seek that last Bluetooth device; hold the PS Link button for about two seconds to begin seeking a saved PS Link device.
Pair PULSE Elite with a phone over Bluetooth
Enter Bluetooth pairing mode
- Open the phone’s settings and turn on Bluetooth.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button once to turn the headset on.
- Press and hold the PS Link button until the indicator quickly blinks blue. Sony specifies an approximately eight-second hold for this pairing state.
- In the phone’s available-device list, select PULSE Elite.
- Wait for the indicator to become solid, which indicates that the Bluetooth connection has been made.
Pairing mode remains available for up to 30 seconds. If the phone does not complete the connection in that window, the headset turns off and you must start pairing mode again with another approximately eight-second hold.
Phone compatibility and saved Bluetooth devices
Bluetooth support alone does not guarantee compatibility; Sony warns that not all devices work with the headset. The headset can pair with up to ten Bluetooth devices, but it can connect to and play audio from only one Bluetooth device at a time. The phone’s Bluetooth settings, not a PS5 menu, are where you select or remove the saved PULSE Elite entry.
Because the pairing window is short, open the Bluetooth device list before putting the headset into pairing mode. A normal slow blue search blink means the headset is looking for a previously saved connection, not waiting for a new phone. The quick blue blink is the cue to select PULSE Elite. If you miss the window, wait for the headset to turn off and repeat the approximately eight-second hold.

Reconnect to the last-used device
When you turn on PULSE Elite, it automatically searches for the last connected device. This behavior applies to a saved PS Link or Bluetooth connection and explains why the headset may appear to reconnect to a device you are not currently using.
Start a connection to another saved device
- Press and hold the headset’s PS Link button for about two seconds.
- Release the button to deactivate the current connection and begin searching for a previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device.
- For a PS5 or computer, make sure the destination device has its own PS Link adapter inserted. When an on-screen connection prompt appears, follow it.
The headset can listen to only one PS Link connection at a time. Switching therefore changes the active PS Link source; it does not mix audio from two PS Link adapters.

Common switching examples
If you finish gaming on a PS5 and want to use a phone, turn on the phone’s Bluetooth and use the two-second hold to seek the saved Bluetooth device. If you finish listening on the phone and want to return to a computer, insert the adapter in the computer first, then use the same two-second hold. For a second PS5 or computer, the destination also needs its own adapter; moving the headset alone does not create a PS Link connection.
Switching is not the same as pairing. The two-second action searches devices that were paired previously. A new phone still requires the approximately eight-second Bluetooth pairing procedure, and the included adapter is already paired for the documented PS5 and computer setup.
Use phone Bluetooth and PS Link audio together
Sony supports simultaneous Bluetooth and PlayStation Link audio. This allows a paired phone’s Bluetooth audio to play while the headset is connected to a PS Link device such as a PS5 or computer. The limits are important:
- Only one Bluetooth device can be connected for listening at a time.
- Only one PS Link connection can be listened to at a time.
- The headset’s volume button controls PS Link audio during simultaneous use.
- Adjust Bluetooth audio volume on the phone or other Bluetooth device itself.
Simultaneous audio is different from switching. A two-second PS Link-button hold changes which saved device the headset seeks; it does not create a second active PS Link listening session.
For example, you can keep a phone connected over Bluetooth while the headset is linked to a PS5 through the adapter. That does not mean two phones can play at once, nor does it let two PS5 or computer adapters provide PS Link audio simultaneously. The one-Bluetooth and one-PS-Link limits still apply, and each source keeps its own volume control.
Understand the headset indicator and button timing
| Action or state | What to do or expect |
|---|---|
| Normal startup | Press the PS Link button; the headset searches for its last connected device. |
| Searching for a PS Link device | The indicator slowly blinks blue. |
| Bluetooth pairing mode | Hold the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue. |
| Connected | The indicator becomes solid. Regional support pages differ on the exact solid color. |
| Switching saved devices | Hold the PS Link button for about two seconds, then release. |
Because Sony’s regional support pages do not describe the solid connected indicator color identically, do not treat a particular shade as a universal pass/fail test. The blinking pattern, the selected device entry, and whether audio is available together provide the more useful confirmation.
Button duration matters more than color when diagnosing a failed attempt. A short press starts the normal last-device search, a roughly two-second hold starts saved-device switching, and an approximately eight-second hold starts a new Bluetooth pairing session. Release at the appropriate point rather than holding indefinitely.
Troubleshoot pairing problems
The PS5 or PC does not connect
- Confirm that the included PS Link USB adapter is fully inserted into a USB-A port on the destination device.
- Use the adapter method for both PS5 and compatible PC/Mac setup; do not substitute the phone’s Bluetooth steps.
- Press the headset’s PS Link button to turn it on and wait for the slow-search blink to change to a solid connected indicator.
- If the headset was last used elsewhere, use the approximately two-second hold to leave the current connection and seek a previously paired device. For a PS5 or computer, keep the adapter inserted in the destination device while doing this.
- On a computer, verify that the machine provides USB audio output and accept any system connection prompt.
The phone cannot find “PULSE Elite”
- Open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and keep the available-device screen visible.
- Turn the headset on with the PS Link button.
- Hold that button for approximately eight seconds, until the indicator quickly blinks blue. A normal slow search blink is not the Bluetooth pairing state.
- Select PULSE Elite promptly. Pairing mode lasts up to 30 seconds; if it expires, repeat the hold to restart it.
If the entry still does not appear, check that Bluetooth is enabled and that the phone is a compatible device. The official guidance does not claim universal compatibility for every Bluetooth phone.
Audio comes from the wrong device
The headset prioritizes the last connected device when it starts. Turn on the device you want to use, insert its PS Link adapter if it is a PS5 or computer, and use the two-second button procedure to initiate a connection to that saved device. If you are using simultaneous phone and PS Link audio, remember that the headset volume control changes PS Link volume while Bluetooth volume is adjusted on the phone.
The indicator color does not match a guide
Support pages from different regions describe the solid connected indicator differently. Focus on the documented state transition—slow blinking while searching, quick blinking during Bluetooth pairing, and a solid indicator after connection—rather than assuming one color applies to every regional page or hardware guide.

This normally means the Bluetooth pairing window elapsed. Sony says pairing mode remains active for up to 30 seconds. Start again by holding the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue, then select PULSE Elite without leaving the phone’s available-device screen.
A previously paired device is not the one you want
Powering on searches for the last connected device by design. To seek another saved device, hold the PS Link button for about two seconds and release it. If the target is a PS5 or computer, make sure its PS Link adapter is inserted before starting that search. If the target is a new phone, use full Bluetooth pairing rather than saved-device switching.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Connection limits to keep in mind
- The standard PS Link adapter is included and paired with the headset out of the box; no separate purchase is required for the documented PS5 or PC/Mac setup.
- PS5 and compatible Windows PC/Mac instructions use PlayStation Link over USB, not ordinary Bluetooth pairing.
- A phone uses Bluetooth and must support a compatible implementation; Sony does not promise that every phone will work.
- Up to ten Bluetooth devices may be paired, but only one Bluetooth device supplies listening audio at a time.
- Only one PS Link connection can be listened to at once, although Bluetooth and PS Link audio can be heard simultaneously.
- Bluetooth pairing mode is temporary: it starts after an approximately eight-second hold and ends after up to 30 seconds without a completed connection.
These limits explain several otherwise confusing results. Ten saved Bluetooth devices do not mean ten simultaneous connections. Two inserted PS Link adapters do not produce two simultaneous PS Link streams. And a headset that reconnects to the last-used device is behaving as documented, not necessarily failing to remember the others.

Frequently asked questions
Does PULSE Elite connect to a PC with Bluetooth?
Sony’s documented Windows PC and Mac setup uses the included PlayStation Link USB adapter and a computer with USB audio output. Use that method rather than assuming the phone’s Bluetooth procedure also applies to a computer.
Do I need to buy a separate adapter for PS5 pairing?
No. The standard PS Link USB adapter is supplied with the headset and paired with it out of the box. Insert it into a USB-A port on the PS5, then turn on the headset with the PS Link button.
Why is my phone not showing PULSE Elite?
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled, then hold the PS Link button for approximately eight seconds until the indicator quickly blinks blue. Select PULSE Elite within the up-to-30-second pairing window. A slow blink indicates normal searching, not new Bluetooth pairing.
Can I hear phone and PS5 audio at the same time?
Yes. Sony supports Bluetooth and PS Link audio simultaneously. Only one Bluetooth device and one PS Link connection can provide listening audio at a time. The headset volume button controls PS Link audio; adjust Bluetooth volume on the phone.
How many Bluetooth devices can PULSE Elite remember?
The headset can pair with up to ten Bluetooth devices, but it can connect to and play audio from only one Bluetooth device at a time.
How do I switch from my phone back to my PS5?
Insert the included PS Link adapter into the PS5, then hold the headset’s PS Link button for about two seconds and release it. The headset searches for a previously paired device. If the PS5 was never paired, use the normal adapter setup first.
What does a slow blue blink mean?
A slow blue blink means the headset is searching for a PS Link connection. For new Bluetooth phone pairing, hold the button for approximately eight seconds until the blink becomes quick, then choose PULSE Elite in the phone’s Bluetooth list.
Why does the headset reconnect to the wrong device?
At startup, PULSE Elite automatically searches for its last connected device. Hold the PS Link button for about two seconds to deactivate that connection and seek another previously paired PS Link or Bluetooth device.
