Organize Samsung Galaxy photos with a few memorable albums, then use Gallery search and tags to find images you did not file manually. Before deleting anything to save space, check that it is backed up or synced: organizing an album does not create a separate cloud copy.
1. Create a small set of useful albums
Albums work best as curated collections for subjects you expect to revisit—such as trips, family events, or a current project. Start with a few names you will remember rather than creating an album for every individual photo.
- Open the Gallery app and tap Albums.
- Tap the plus or add control, then choose Album.
- Enter a name and create the album.
Samsung’s Gallery album instructions describe this workflow. The exact control and wording can vary by Galaxy model, software version, and wireless service provider.
2. Choose whether to copy or move photos
To file photos you already have, select them in Pictures or Albums, open More, and choose Copy to album or Move to album. You may also be offered the choice while creating a new album after selecting items.

Check the selection before confirming, particularly if you are unsure whether you want a second copy or a relocation. Samsung’s album and organization guide also describes choosing Copy or Move.
3. Find photos with Gallery search
Albums are for collections you organize in advance; search is useful when you remember a clue but not where you filed an image. Open Gallery and tap its search control. Try an album name, tag, date, location, or a descriptive detail about what appears in the image. Which search cues are available depends on the phone and software configuration.

Samsung’s US Gallery guide describes searching by tags, album names, and other details. Its Gulf search guide also covers dates, locations, and recognized content on supported configurations. If one keyword does not find the photo, try another specific word or clue.

A tag is a searchable descriptive term attached to a photo or video, useful for a detail that may not fit an album name. Samsung’s Gulf instructions say tags are stored locally and do not sync across devices.

- Open the photo, video, or GIF in Gallery.
- Tap Details.
- Choose Add tag, enter a descriptive term, and save it.
- Search Gallery for that term when you want to retrieve the item.
The option may not appear on older Gallery versions or unsupported devices. Samsung’s tagging instructions explain the steps for supported configurations.
5. Check whether similar images are grouped
On some newer devices, Gallery groups similar-looking images. In Pictures, a thumbnail count may represent several items rather than one missing photo. Open the grouped thumbnail to inspect its contents. If you prefer to see each item separately, use More options > Ungroup similar images, if that control is available. Samsung’s Gallery guide notes that feature availability varies.

6. Verify backup or sync before deleting local photos
Album organization and cloud backup are separate. Samsung documents Gallery sync with OneDrive and photo or video backup through Google One in device settings; the available route depends on the phone and account. Check the relevant setting and confirm the correct account and sync or backup status before removing local files. Samsung also describes a local space-saving option for OneDrive-synced items in its US Gallery guide; do not assume an image is safely backed up just because it appears in an album.

If a menu or feature is missing
- Check that you are using Samsung Gallery and look for the corresponding control under More or Details.
- Confirm the Gallery app and phone software are up to date, then check the device-specific instructions for your model.
- Keep in mind that Samsung says Gallery screens and settings can differ by model, software version, and wireless service provider. A feature shown in a regional support guide is not a promise that it is available on every Galaxy device.
