Use touch-and-hold to drag ordinary passes into a new order, use Edit card order for payment cards, and remove an item from its details page when you no longer want it in Wallet. If you may need it later, archive a loyalty or gift card instead: archiving hides it without deleting it.
Choose the right action before changing a pass
Google Wallet treats passes, payment cards, loyalty cards and gift cards as different item types. The safest cleanup method depends on whether you want to change visibility, permanently remove the Wallet entry, or simply change the order in which items appear.

Google describes archiving this way: “Archiving a pass moves it to a separate section, but does not remove or delete it.” That makes archiving the better choice for a loyalty card you might use again or a gift card that still has value. An event ticket, identity document or payment card may not offer the same archive control.

Reorder passes in the Google Wallet app
Move a regular pass
- Open the Google Wallet app on your Android phone.
- Locate the pass you want to move.
- Touch and hold the pass.
- Drag it up or down to the desired position, then release it.
This gesture applies to the pass list. It is not the documented control for changing the order of payment cards.

Change payment-card order
- Open Google Wallet.
- Swipe through your payment cards until you reach the last card.
- Tap Edit card order.
- Arrange the cards in the order you want and save or exit as prompted.
Keeping the two procedures separate prevents a common mistake: trying to drag a payment card as though it were a loyalty card or ticket. The available controls can vary by item type and app version, so a missing option is not evidence that the card is defective.
Find a pass before you edit or remove it
Sort the list
Google Wallet can sort loyalty and gift cards alphabetically or by recently used items. Use the sorting control when you remember the card but not its current position. Alphabetical order is useful for a large, stable collection; recently used order is useful when you regularly switch among a few cards.
Search saved items
Use Wallet’s search bar to look for a saved item instead of scrolling through every pass. Search is especially useful when several cards have similar names. Archived passes can appear at the bottom of search results, so check that area if a card seems to have disappeared from the main list.

Remove a pass from an Android phone
Use the general pass-removal route
For a pass that exposes the standard control, follow this path:
- Open Google Wallet.
- Find and open the pass.
- Scroll to the bottom of the pass details.
- Tap Remove pass and confirm if Wallet asks you to do so.
The wording and location of the control can differ between tickets, loyalty cards, access passes, transit items and other pass categories. If you do not see Remove pass, use the item-specific instructions below rather than assuming the pass cannot be managed.
Remove a payment card
Payment cards use a different label. Open the card in Wallet, then choose Remove payment method. Google’s general instructions are in Manage items in Google Wallet.

Remove a loyalty or gift card
Loyalty and gift cards may expose their controls through a nested menu rather than the generic button:
- Open Google Wallet and tap View more.
- Tap View more passes.
- Select the loyalty or gift card.
- Open Settings near the bottom of the pass.
- Tap Remove, then confirm.
Google’s loyalty-card and gift-card instructions cover this route. A gift card’s Wallet entry is not the same thing as the issuer’s stored-value account: “Removing a card from Google Wallet does not affect its balance, only its presence in the app.”
Archive a loyalty or gift card instead of removing it
Archive when you want a cleaner main list but may need the card later. This option is documented for loyalty and gift cards; do not assume that an identity document, transit pass, access credential or payment card offers the same archive control.

Move the card to Archive passes
- Open Google Wallet and select the loyalty or gift card.
- Open the pass’s Settings, usually near the bottom of its details.
- Choose Archive.
- Confirm if prompted.
The card leaves the main pass list but remains associated with Wallet’s archived section. Archiving does not cancel the loyalty account, invalidate a coupon by itself or reduce a gift-card balance.
View or restore an archived card
- Open the passes page in Google Wallet.
- Scroll to the bottom.
- Tap Archive passes.
- Open the card you need.
- Tap Unarchive to return it to the main list.
If you ultimately decide that the card should not remain in Wallet, unarchive it first and then use the loyalty or gift-card removal path. The archive section is for hiding and restoring a pass, not for deleting it.
Understand what removal changes across devices
Whether removal affects one device or several depends on how the pass was saved. Google’s item-management guidance distinguishes account-connected passes from device-specific items, while the smartwatch guidance adds a phone-and-watch relationship.

These are behavior categories, not a promise that every issuer implements the same connection. A ticket, private ID, transit credential and loyalty card can expose different controls. Read the confirmation message before accepting a removal that may propagate to other signed-in devices.

Move passes to a new phone
Sign-in and pass type determine whether an item simply appears on a new device or must be added again. Google’s pass and card transfer guidance explains the distinction.

- Account-connected loyalty cards, gift cards, event tickets and boarding passes can appear on multiple devices after you sign in to the same Google Account.
- Some passes are tied to one device. For those, the old-device entry may remain separate or may need to be removed before you add the item to the new phone.
- When Google requires a move rather than a copy, remove the item from the old device and add it on the new one using the issuer’s original link, barcode, email or account flow.
Do not remove an old-device pass until you know how it will be added on the replacement phone. A removed pass may need the issuer to issue a new link or ticket, even though removing it from Wallet does not change an underlying account.
Use Google Wallet with a Wear OS watch
Eligible loyalty cards, gift cards and tickets added on an Android phone can automatically become available on a synced Wear OS watch. Eligibility and synchronization depend on the pass and the watch setup; not every Wallet item is supported.
- Pair and sync the watch with the phone that holds the pass.
- Confirm that the pass category is supported for Wear OS.
- Change pass order on the phone, not from the watch. Google’s smartwatch instructions say pass order should be changed on the phone.
- Be careful with the watch’s Remove control: removing a pass from the watch also removes it from the Wallet app.

Manage passes from the Google Wallet website
The Wallet website can manage some pass types, including loyalty and gift cards, but it is not a complete mirror of the phone app. Availability is limited to supported countries or regions, and not every pass appears online.
Private passes such as identification and health-insurance cards, along with passes designed for a single device, are examples that may be absent from the website. If you cannot find an item online, use the phone app first; its pass-specific details page is the more broadly applicable route.
Website controls and country support can change. Check Google’s current Manage items in Google Wallet page for the supported route rather than assuming that a website control exists for every pass.
Archive versus remove: which is safer?
Use three questions to choose between the two actions:
- Do you only want a cleaner screen? Archive a loyalty or gift card. It leaves the card recoverable through Archive passes.
- Are you finished with the Wallet entry? Remove it. You may have to add it again from the issuer if you change your mind.
- Will another device or watch still need it? Check whether it is account-connected or synchronized before confirming. A removal can propagate beyond the phone in use.
Archiving changes visibility, while removal changes whether Wallet stores the item. Neither action cancels the issuer account, closes a payment account or changes the balance on a gift card. Those are separate issuer-side actions.

Before removing a pass from an old phone
Device replacement is where an accidental removal is most disruptive. First sign in to the same Google Account on the new phone and look for account-connected loyalty cards, gift cards, event tickets and boarding passes. If the item appears, confirm that its barcode or details are usable before cleaning up the old phone.
For a device-specific pass, keep the original email, barcode, ticket link or issuer account available. Google may require the pass to be removed from the old device before it can be added to the new one. Removing the Wallet copy does not guarantee that the issuer can immediately recreate a ticket, so preserve that original access path.
After removal, search Wallet again and check Archive passes. If the item was account-connected, check another signed-in device. If it was on a Wear OS watch, check the phone too because the watch’s removal control can remove the phone copy.
When a control is missing
The item is not a loyalty or gift card
Archive and the nested View more passes route are associated with loyalty and gift cards. Tickets, IDs, transit passes, access credentials and payment cards can use different menus. Open the item itself and look for its own details or settings controls.
The pass is account-connected or synchronized
A pass may disappear from another phone after you remove it on one signed-in device, or it may remain because it is device-specific. Check the account used by each device and read Wallet’s confirmation message before trying to add a duplicate.
The app, country or issuer uses a different interface
Google notes that Wallet features are not available in every country or region. Labels and control placement can also vary by Android version, pass type and issuer. Update or reopen the app, check current in-app help, and follow the issuer’s instructions if Wallet does not expose a removal action.
The item is on a watch but not the phone
Manage order on the phone and verify that the watch is still synced. If you used the watch’s removal control, check the phone because the pass may have been removed there as well.

Wallet can hide or remove a saved representation of a card; it cannot change an issuer’s account status. For a frozen payment card, incorrect gift-card balance, missing loyalty points or a ticket that the organizer revoked, contact the bank, merchant, airline, event organizer or other issuer.

A safe cleanup routine
- Identify the item type. Decide whether it is a payment card, loyalty or gift card, ticket, boarding pass, transit item, ID or another pass.
- Search before scrolling. Use Wallet’s search and sorting options, including the archived section at the bottom of results.
- Choose visibility or removal. Drag to reorder, archive a loyalty or gift card that you may reuse, or remove an item you no longer want in Wallet.
- Read the device warning. Account-connected and watch-synced items can affect more than the screen you are using.
- Preserve an alternative. Before removing a ticket or card needed on a new phone, keep the issuer email, account access or original add-to-Wallet link available.
- Verify the result. Confirm that the pass moved, entered Archive passes or disappeared as intended, and check another device if the item was account-connected.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I delete an archived item from Google Wallet?
Open Google Wallet, scroll to Archive passes, select the loyalty or gift card, and use its Settings menu to choose Remove. An archived pass is hidden, not deleted, until you remove it.
Will removing a gift card from Google Wallet erase its balance?
No. Google says removing a card affects only its presence in Wallet, not its balance. Contact the gift-card issuer for balance or account questions.
Can I archive a payment card, ID or transit pass?
Google documents archiving for loyalty and gift cards. Other pass types use their own controls, so do not assume they offer an Archive option.
Why did a pass disappear from my other phone?
A pass connected to your Google Account can be removed across signed-in devices when you remove it on one device. Device-specific passes may remain on another phone.
Does removing a pass from my Wear OS watch remove it from my phone?
Yes. Google says removing a pass from the watch also removes it from the Wallet app. Check the phone before removing a watch pass.
Can I reorder payment cards by dragging them?
Use the separate payment-card control: swipe to the last payment card and tap Edit card order. Touch-and-hold dragging is the documented gesture for ordinary passes.

Website management is limited by country or region and pass type. Private passes, such as IDs and health-insurance cards, and single-device passes may not appear online. Use the phone app.
What should I do if Remove pass is missing?
Open the pass’s own details or settings, because labels differ by category and app version. Check current in-app help or contact the issuer if Wallet provides no removal control.
