To open the Windows 11 “God Mode” view, create a new folder and rename it GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Press Enter, then open the renamed folder in File Explorer. Windows changes the folder into a searchable list of Control Panel tasks.
“God Mode” is an informal nickname. The folder does not grant administrator rights, bypass security, or expose every option in the Windows 11 Settings app.
What the God Mode folder is
The folder is a Windows shell namespace junction point. Its name combines a label you choose with a period and a class identifier (CLSID) enclosed in braces. File Explorer recognizes that identifier and displays a special task view instead of showing the folder as a normal directory.

Microsoft describes this general technique in its documentation for locating namespace extensions: create a folder in the desired location, append a period, and add the string form of the extension’s CLSID. The Windows 11 “God Mode” label and the specific identifier are commonly documented by current Windows how-to guides; Microsoft does not present “God Mode” as an official privilege or product feature.

The resulting view groups Control Panel tasks into categories such as administrative tools, personalization, power options, security, system settings, and troubleshooting. The exact categories and entries can vary with your Windows edition, installed components, connected hardware, and available Control Panel features.
Open it with the standard folder method
This is the simplest and most reliable method because it leaves a reusable shortcut wherever you create it.
- Choose a location. The desktop is easiest to find, but you can use Documents or another local folder. Avoid creating it inside a system directory or a location synchronized to multiple computers unless you specifically want the shortcut there.
- Create an ordinary folder. Right-click an empty area, choose New, and select Folder. Do not open the folder first; leave it selected.
- Rename the folder. Press F2, or right-click it and choose Rename. Enter this name exactly, including the period, braces, hyphens, and capital letters:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} - Commit the name. Press Enter. The ordinary folder icon should change to a Control Panel-style icon or another shell icon, and the visible label will usually become GodMode rather than showing the identifier.
- Open the task list. Double-click the renamed folder. File Explorer should show the special task view with grouped Control Panel commands.
If the icon and behavior change immediately after you press Enter, the folder was created correctly. You do not need to restart Windows or enable a setting.

Where to create it
A desktop folder is convenient for occasional access. Documents works if you prefer to keep the desktop uncluttered. A folder on a local data drive is useful on a shared workstation, provided your account has permission to create and rename items there. The location changes only where the shortcut appears; it does not change which tasks Windows exposes.

How to find a task
When the view opens, use the search box in the upper-right corner of File Explorer to enter a distinctive word, such as backup, power, firewall, or keyboard. You can also switch the layout to Details or use the category headings to scan related commands. A result opens the corresponding Windows dialog, Control Panel page, or management console.
Use the Run command without creating a folder
For a one-time visit, you can ask Explorer to open the namespace directly. Press Windows key + R, enter the following command, and press Enter:
explorer.exe shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

This opens the same shell view without leaving a God Mode folder on the desktop. If you use the view often, the folder method is easier to remember and reopen. You can also place the command in a shortcut’s target field, but the shortcut must retain the explorer.exe program name and the complete shell::: identifier.

What you can do in the view
Search across related Control Panel commands
The view puts many legacy management tasks in one searchable namespace. This can save time when you know the action you need but not the old Control Panel page that contains it. Search terms are matched against the task names Windows publishes, so a broad word can return several related entries.
Open the underlying Windows tool
Selecting an entry launches its normal Windows interface. Depending on the task, that may be a Control Panel page, a settings dialog, a wizard, or a management console. The folder does not replace those tools; it provides another index for reaching them.
Use normal permissions and confirmations
Tasks continue to follow Windows account permissions. An operation that normally requires administrator approval still triggers User Account Control or another permission check. If your account is not allowed to perform an action, the special view does not change that restriction.
What “God Mode” does not do
- It is not an administrator account. The folder does not elevate your account, unlock protected files, or bypass User Account Control.
- It is not a security bypass. It does not disable antivirus protection, remove policy restrictions, or grant access to another user’s data.
- It is not every Windows setting. The view primarily indexes Control Panel tasks. Windows 11 Settings contains modern pages and options that may not appear here, so the two interfaces are complementary.
- It is not a performance mode. Renaming a folder this way does not make Windows faster and does not alter power, graphics, storage, or network settings by itself.
- It is not an official feature name. “God Mode” is a community nickname for the all-tasks-style shell view. Treat the identifier and the behavior as the technical facts.
Troubleshoot a folder that does not open correctly
The name remains visible as ordinary text
Check the name character by character. The period before the opening brace is required, as are all hyphens and braces. The identifier must be ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C; one missing or substituted character prevents Explorer from recognizing it.

Rename the folder again using F2. If you copied the text from a formatted document, replace typographic quotation marks or an en dash with the plain characters shown in the code sample. Do not add quotation marks around the name.
Windows says the name is invalid
Make sure the folder name does not contain a trailing space or an extra period after the closing brace. Windows permits the period that separates the display label from the CLSID, but the identifier must end at the final }. If File Explorer hides extensions, that does not affect this procedure; you are renaming the folder itself, not a file extension.
The folder opens as an empty directory
An empty, ordinary directory indicates that the CLSID was not accepted. Recreate the folder and type the complete name manually. Also confirm that you are opening the newly renamed folder rather than another folder with a similar display label.
The Run command produces an error
Verify that you entered shell::: with three colons and that the identifier is enclosed in braces. The command should begin with explorer.exe, followed by a space. If Run is restricted by an organization’s policy, use the folder method instead or ask your administrator whether Explorer namespace commands are blocked.

A task is missing
The view is not a complete catalog of Windows 11 Settings. Search the Settings app directly with Windows key + I, or use the search box on the taskbar for modern settings pages. Entries can also vary by Windows edition, installed features, hardware, and account permissions.
A task opens but asks for administrator approval
That is expected for protected operations. Approve the User Account Control prompt only when you recognize the task and intended change. If the prompt requests credentials you do not have, sign in with an authorized administrator or contact the person who manages the computer; the folder itself cannot supply those credentials.

The folder is a junction-style shell entry rather than a container for your personal documents. To remove it, close any task window opened from it, select the folder in File Explorer, and press Delete. Confirm the Recycle Bin prompt if one appears. Deleting the entry does not uninstall Windows components or undo changes made through a task.
To keep an ordinary folder at the same location, rename the entry to a normal name that does not contain the period-plus-CLSID pattern. After renaming, it behaves like a regular folder again. If you accidentally place files inside an ordinary folder before applying the identifier, check its contents before deletion; a correctly created namespace entry should not be used as document storage.
Choosing between the two access methods

Both methods open the same Windows shell namespace. Neither changes your permissions or guarantees that every Settings page will be listed.
Practical safety guidance
- Create the entry in a location you control, such as your desktop or Documents.
- Read the name of each task before opening it; the view is an index, not a warning-free automation tool.
- Make a note of the original setting before changing an unfamiliar option so you can reverse it if needed.
- Do not treat the nickname as evidence that a task is safe to run with elevated privileges.
- On a work or school computer, follow your organization’s policy before changing system, network, security, or account settings.
Why the folder name works
The part before the period is a human-readable label. The part after the period is a CLSID that identifies a Windows shell namespace. Explorer parses that pattern when it browses into the entry and renders the associated namespace view. In this case, the identifier maps to an all-tasks-style collection of Control Panel commands.
This explains two details that often seem surprising: the folder can appear to change its icon and label after renaming, and it does not behave like a normal directory in which you store files. The visible “GodMode” text is only the label; the CLSID is what determines the view.
