“Opening and utilizing” an AMD Radeon graphics card can mean opening AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition to configure a card, or opening your PC case to install or inspect one. This guide covers the software path for compatible Radeon graphics on Windows 11 version 21H2 or later and Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 or later, plus the basics of finding model-specific hardware setup instructions. It does not cover taking apart a graphics card’s cooler or circuit board.

Choose what you mean by “opening” the card

  • Open its software: Install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, then use it to check drivers and access the features available for your card.
  • Open your PC case: Install or inspect the graphics card using the instructions for your exact card, case, and motherboard.
  • Disassemble the card itself: Removing the cooler or opening the card’s circuit-board assembly is a different repair task. The AMD setup materials cited here do not establish a safe procedure, warranty impact, or serviceability for a particular model.

The software requirements above are those listed in AMD’s installation guide, not a guarantee that every Radeon card or every software release supports every listed Windows environment. AMD notes that requirements can change. AMD’s Adrenalin installation guide was last updated February 9, 2026; its examples use Adrenalin 26.1.1 and an RX 9070, and it cautions that options may differ by system.

Install AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition

1. Confirm your card and Windows version

Identify the Radeon model and Windows version before downloading anything. Use AMD’s support site to select the matching product, or use the Auto-Detect and Install tool described in the installation guide. If your PC is an OEM system, check the computer maker’s support guidance as well.

2. Download and run the installer

Download the package from AMD, launch it, and allow the installer to check compatibility. AMD recommends closing open applications first to help avoid potential conflicts. Follow the installer’s prompts; the options it presents can depend on your system.

Open the software and check your driver

After installation, open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and go to its System settings to inspect graphics hardware and driver information. AMD’s guide to viewing graphics information and software updates was updated June 17, 2025 and illustrates an older software version, so rely on the current in-app labels and release notes if the screens differ.

Use the software’s update manager to check whether an update is available, then review the linked release notes to determine whether it applies to your system. An available update is not by itself a reason to assume that every feature or release supports every card.

Use only the features your Radeon model supports

Adrenalin’s help center organizes guidance around display configuration, graphics settings, performance tuning, capture and streaming, profiles, and metrics. The specific controls depend on the card and system; AMD cautions that “Your product may not have some of the features covered in these articles.” Check your exact product documentation before relying on a feature. AMD Software Help Center is the starting point.

If you mean installing or inspecting the physical card

Follow the quick-start guide for the exact Radeon model, along with your PC and motherboard documentation for the chassis and expansion-slot details. AMD’s RX 7800 XT Quick Start Guide, released December 12, 2023, is an example of model-specific setup material—not a universal installation guide. Find product resources through AMD Support, and check the board partner’s documentation when it applies to your card’s design.

If by “open the card” you mean taking apart its cooler or circuit board, do not treat a basic installation guide as authorization or instructions for that work. Consult the board partner or a qualified repair service for the exact model; the sources linked here do not settle safe disassembly steps, warranty consequences, or whether a particular card is serviceable.
