If your Samsung Galaxy Watch has a cracked or broken back cover, Samsung says it needs service at a repair center. The official guidance reviewed here does not give a safe, universal do-it-yourself opening procedure. Identify your exact model before arranging repair; opening steps and parts should not be assumed to fit every Galaxy Watch.
Should you open the watch yourself?
Samsung’s support article says: “If your Galaxy Watch has a cracked or broken back cover, it will need to be serviced at a repair center.” The article addresses a damaged cover and directs owners to service; it does not provide instructions for removing the back or replacing it. Samsung’s guidance, updated August 13, 2026, is the appropriate starting point for this repair.
That matters because a watch’s generation and model affect what parts and repair instructions apply. The support material, for example, identifies the 46mm SM-R800 and 42mm SM-R810 as distinct models. Without the exact model, a replacement cover, battery, adhesive, or tool cannot be verified as compatible. Do not treat a procedure for another Samsung device or Galaxy Watch generation as interchangeable.

Find the exact model before arranging service
Check the model number in the watch’s model information or product records, then provide it when contacting a repair provider. Samsung’s support pages list model-specific identifiers, but the reviewed guidance does not establish one universal identification path for every watch. If the model is unclear, ask Samsung support or the service provider to identify it before approving a repair or sourcing parts.

Back up the watch before service
Samsung recommends backing up personal data before handing the watch over. On the connected phone, open the Galaxy Wearable app, go to Watch settings, select Accounts and backup, and follow the Smart Switch backup flow. Samsung notes that some exceptionally large files may not be backed up. It also says an automatic message prompts you to back up if the watch has not been backed up for 29 days. How to arrange a supported repair
Use Samsung’s service-center or repair-booking route for your region. Samsung Canada’s support article links to both options; availability and booking details may differ elsewhere. Start from the support article and follow its service links. Samsung Canada also lists certified third-party parts partners, but that listing does not establish that a specific Galaxy Watch back-cover part is available or compatible. Samsung Canada’s support pages include different model identifiers and regional service information. They do not establish warranty coverage, water resistance after opening, or sensor accuracy after a repair. Ask the repair provider about those issues for your specific watch rather than relying on a general teardown or an unverified replacement part. Samsung’s damaged-cover guidance is the documented route for a broken rear cover.
