Chrome does not have a built-in command that turns a pasted list of URLs into tabs. On desktop, the practical solution is a Chrome Web Store extension: paste one complete URL per line into a multi-URL opener, or use a clipboard opener that detects URLs in copied text. Review the detected addresses, then open them in a controlled batch so you can remove duplicates and avoid overwhelming Chrome.
What Chrome can and cannot do natively
Chrome’s own tab controls are designed for links and tabs that are already visible. You can open an individual link in a new tab, group tabs, select several existing tabs, and perform bulk actions on that selection. Those controls do not include a documented workflow for pasting a block of text containing URLs and opening every address automatically.
That distinction matters when your source is an email, document, chat message, spreadsheet, or copied web page. Without an opener extension, you would have to extract each address and open it separately. The instructions below describe desktop Chrome workflows because the tools discussed are Chrome Web Store extensions. Chrome’s Android help covers tab management, but equivalent mobile extension support is not established here; check the current Chrome and extension support for your device before expecting the same process to work on a phone or tablet.
Prepare the copied list before opening it
A few seconds of cleanup prevents most failed tabs.

- Put one complete URL on each line. A typical line begins with
https://. - Include the scheme when an address could be ambiguous. For example, use
https://example.com/pagerather than a bare domain copied from a sentence. - Remove punctuation that belongs to surrounding prose, such as a trailing period, comma, closing parenthesis, or quotation mark.
- Keep query strings and fragments intact when they are part of the destination. Do not insert spaces into a URL.
- If the same address occurs more than once, either delete the extra lines in a text editor or use a tool that merges duplicates.
- For a very large collection, divide the text into smaller batches. Opening hundreds of tabs simultaneously can trigger a warning, consume memory, and make it difficult to find the results you need.
If you copied a paragraph rather than a clean list, first paste it into a plain-text editor. Separate the addresses onto individual lines and inspect the beginning and end of every line before sending the list to Chrome.
Method 1: paste a list into Open Multiple URLs
An extension listed as Open Multiple URLs is intended for the straightforward pasted-list case. Its Chrome Web Store description says it “Takes a list of web pages in plain-text format and opens them all in new tabs.”
- Install the extension. In desktop Chrome, open the Chrome Web Store, search for the current, well-reviewed listing named Open Multiple URLs, and check its publisher, permissions, privacy disclosure, and recent update information before selecting Add to Chrome.
- Open its interface. Select the extension’s toolbar button. If the button is hidden, open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin it so it is easier to reach for later batches.
- Paste the prepared list. Click the extension’s text area and paste one URL per line. Do not paste a screenshot or rich formatting; the opener needs text it can parse.
- Review the entries. Look for truncated addresses, punctuation attached to the end of a line, blank lines, and destinations you did not intend to visit. Correct the text before opening it.
- Open the tabs. Choose the command labeled Open URLs (the exact capitalization can change with an extension update). Chrome creates a new tab for each accepted entry.
- Clean up the tab strip. Close duplicates or unwanted pages. If you opened more than you need, select related tabs and place them in a tab group so the batch is easier to manage.
When this method is the best fit
Use a pasted-list opener when you already have a clean list in a document, spreadsheet, notes app, or message. It gives you a visible editing step before any navigation occurs, which is useful when the copied material includes commentary or mixed formatting.

Method 2: open URLs detected in the clipboard
A clipboard-focused extension is faster when the links are already copied and you do not want to reformat them manually. A listing named Open Clipboard URLs describes its function as: “Open each URL found in the clipboard in its own tab.”
- Copy the source. Select the links or the text containing them and press
Ctrl+Con Windows or Linux, orCommand+Con macOS. Leave the clipboard unchanged until the extension has scanned it. - Install and inspect the extension. In the Chrome Web Store, verify that the listing is current and read its permissions and privacy disclosure. Clipboard access can expose anything you copy, so install only an extension whose access you understand.
- Open the toolbar control. Click the extension’s icon. It reads the clipboard and presents the URLs it found for review.
- Check the detected list. The listing says duplicates are merged automatically. Confirm that the expected destinations were recognized and that no address was created from unrelated text.
- Respond to volume warnings. The listing says a warning appears when many URLs are found. If Chrome or the extension warns about the size of the batch, cancel and split the clipboard text into smaller groups.
- Start the tabs. Choose the command to open all detected URLs. Each accepted address is sent to a separate Chrome tab.
Why clipboard detection can be preferable
This approach is convenient for links copied from a page, chat, or email where manually placing every address on its own line would take time. It is less transparent than a hand-edited list, however, because the extension is deciding which strings in the clipboard count as URLs. Always inspect the preview before opening.
Method 3: use a bulk URL opener for saved lists and page links
Bulk URL Opener is aimed at more involved workflows. Its listing describes features for saving lists, extracting addresses from clipboard text or HTML, collecting URLs from current tabs, and selecting links directly on a page. It also describes opening every URL in a new tab with the first new tab active.

- Choose the input source. Depending on the feature exposed by the current version, select a saved list, clipboard text, HTML, your current tabs, or links selected on the page.
- Inspect the extracted addresses. HTML extraction can produce navigation links, tracking links, or repeated destinations that were not obvious in the visible page. Remove anything you do not want to visit.
- Save a reusable collection when appropriate. A saved list is useful for recurring research, a reading queue, or a set of internal pages. Give it a descriptive name and update it rather than creating near-duplicate lists.
- Open the approved set. Use the extension’s open command. The listing states that the first newly opened tab becomes active, while the remaining tabs are created alongside it.
Because features, permissions, and interface labels can change, confirm the current listing before relying on a particular extraction or tab-collection option.

Before installing any of these tools, compare the publisher, permissions, privacy disclosure, and update date shown in the live Chrome Web Store listing. Those details can change, and the listing is the authoritative place to confirm what the extension currently does.
Privacy and security checks
A URL opener can handle sensitive browsing data, especially when it reads the clipboard or scans page content. Treat it as a privileged utility rather than a harmless formatting aid.

- Read the requested permissions and ask why each one is necessary. Clipboard access, access to page content, and tab management have different privacy implications.
- Read the extension’s privacy disclosure and publisher information before installation. If the disclosure is missing or unclear, choose a different tool.
- Do not paste passwords, authentication codes, private document links, or other secrets into an extension interface.
- Review every destination before opening. A copied list can contain look-alike domains, shortened links, or addresses that redirect somewhere unexpected.
- After a one-time task, remove the extension or disable it if you do not need its permissions continuously. You can manage installed extensions from Chrome’s Extensions menu.
- Keep Chrome and the extension updated. If the permissions or behavior change after an update, reread the listing and privacy notice before continuing.
Troubleshooting links that fail or open incorrectly
A line opens a search instead of the intended page
Check that the line is a complete URL and includes https:// when needed. A bare phrase, hostname without a valid format, or address with spaces may be treated as a search query rather than navigation.
The page reports that the address is invalid
Paste the line into a plain-text editor and remove surrounding quotation marks, brackets, commas, and sentence-ending punctuation. Also check for a line break inserted in the middle of a long address. Preserve legitimate characters in the path, query string, and fragment.
Unexpected duplicate tabs appear
Deduplicate the list before opening, or use the clipboard opener whose listing says duplicates are merged automatically. If the same page has different tracking parameters, the tool may correctly treat those URLs as different even when they display similar content.

Only some URLs open
Inspect the extension’s preview or result list. The omitted entries may not have been recognized as complete URLs, may contain illegal characters, or may have been rejected by a volume limit. Correct the text and retry only the failed subset rather than reopening the entire batch.
Chrome becomes slow or shows a warning
Stop the operation if a warning appears, close unnecessary tabs, and divide the list into smaller groups. Each tab can load scripts, images, and network requests at the same time, so a large batch can use substantial memory and bandwidth even when the opener itself is lightweight.
The extension cannot read the clipboard
Confirm that you copied the text after Chrome was running, that the extension is enabled, and that its current permission settings allow clipboard access. If the clipboard tool still fails, switch to the manual pasted-list method: paste the text into the extension’s editor, clean it, and open the verified lines.

A mobile workflow is unavailable
The procedures in this guide rely on desktop Chrome Web Store extensions. Chrome on Android may provide tab controls without providing the same extension installation path. Check current support for your operating system and Chrome channel; do not assume that a desktop extension can be installed or used on mobile.
A safe workflow for recurring batches
- Capture. Copy the source links into a temporary plain-text document.
- Normalize. Put one complete URL on each line, restore missing schemes, and remove prose punctuation.
- Deduplicate. Delete exact repeats. Keep distinct URLs when their query strings or fragments serve different purposes.
- Classify. Separate trusted destinations from unfamiliar domains so you can review the latter independently.
- Open a small test group. Send a few URLs first and confirm that the extension recognizes the format and that the pages are the ones you expect.
- Process the remaining groups. Use the same batch size for the rest, pausing when Chrome warns about volume or performance.
- Organize the result. Group related tabs, close redirects and duplicates, and save only the cleaned list if you will need it again.
This procedure gives you a checkpoint before navigation, limits the effect of a malformed line, and keeps a large research session manageable.
