To open the Dell Pro Max 14 (MC14250), shut it down, disconnect peripherals, loosen the eight captive base-cover screws, then release the clips with a plastic scribe starting at the recesses near the hinges. Dell documents replacement procedures for M.2 2230 and M.2 2280 SSDs, plus one LPCAMM2 memory slot supporting 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB configurations. Confirm your exact hardware configuration and compatibility before buying parts.
What you need before opening the laptop
- A plastic scribe or laptop-opening pry tool to release the base-cover clips.
- An appropriate precision screwdriver for the captive screws. Dell’s video does not specify a screwdriver model or bit size.
- ESD protection, such as a wrist strap, before handling internal components.
Shut down the computer and disconnect attached peripherals before starting. Dell advises using an ESD wrist strap while working inside the computer to help prevent electrostatic damage. Follow the model-specific Owner’s Manual for any work beyond removing the cover; its procedures distinguish customer-replaceable units from field-replaceable units.
How to remove the Dell Pro Max 14 base cover
- Shut down the laptop and disconnect all attached peripherals. Put on ESD protection before working inside.
- Loosen the eight captive screws securing the base cover to the palm-rest assembly. Captive screws remain attached to the cover.
- Insert a plastic scribe at one of the recesses near the hinges. Work the tool along the edges to release the cover clips; then lift the cover away.
- Use the Owner’s Manual procedure for the specific component you intend to remove or replace.
Dell’s model-specific battery-replacement video describes this cover-removal sequence. It also advises: “Always wear ESD wrist strap while working inside the computer to prevent damage due to electrostatic discharge.”

What storage and memory upgrades does Dell document?
SSD: M.2 2230 or M.2 2280
The Owner’s Manual provides separate removal and installation procedures for M.2 2230 and M.2 2280 solid-state drives. For the documented 2280 procedure, remove the base cover, take out the two M2x3 screws securing the SSD bracket, lift off the bracket, remove the M2x4 drive-retaining screw, and withdraw the drive from its connector.

These procedures establish the supported physical drive sizes, not which size is fitted in your particular laptop. Check your configuration and verify the drive’s form factor and interface compatibility before ordering. Do not assume that a 2230 and 2280 drive are interchangeable in your unit.
Memory: LPCAMM2 LPDDR5x
Dell specifies one LPCAMM2 slot using LPDDR5x memory at 7467 MT/s. The manual lists supported capacities of 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB per slot, with a maximum configuration of 64 GB.

LPCAMM2 is a specific memory form factor; ordinary SO-DIMM laptop memory is not established as compatible. Check your system configuration and confirm the exact module compatibility before purchasing. The manual’s supported capacities do not confirm the installed capacity in an individual laptop.

Reinstalling the base cover
Align the cover with the chassis and press it into place so the clips engage, then tighten the captive screws. Dell’s repair video describes this reassembly order. If the cover does not sit flush, check its alignment and clips rather than forcing it down.

Before ordering replacement parts
- For an SSD, confirm whether your configuration takes M.2 2230 or M.2 2280, and verify interface and system compatibility.
- For memory, verify LPCAMM2 compatibility and the supported capacity for your configuration; do not substitute SO-DIMM based on the LPDDR5x designation alone.
- The available Dell procedures do not identify the exact parts installed in every MC14250 configuration or validate a particular third-party replacement part.
