Use a LinkedIn Service Page to present one clearly defined consulting offer, attract project requests, and qualify buyers. Publish it from your personal profile or, if your organization has 500 employees or fewer, from an eligible Company Page. Make the buyer, problem, measurable outcome, scope, proof, location, and next step obvious. Show a starting hourly rate only when your work has a repeatable minimum scope; otherwise select Contact for pricing and quote after discovery. LinkedIn can generate inquiries and proposals, but your contract, milestones, invoicing, and payment are agreed outside LinkedIn.
What a LinkedIn Service Page does
A Service Page is a dedicated offer attached to a LinkedIn presence. It lets prospective clients find your consulting category, understand what you do, see where and how you work, and contact you about a project. It is a lead-generation and qualification surface, not a complete consulting-commerce system.
The practical model is a request-and-proposal flow:
- A buyer searches LinkedIn or asks their network for recommendations.
- The buyer submits a project request.
- Providers who appear relevant send proposals.
- The buyer and provider agree the scope, terms, and payment outside LinkedIn.
- After the engagement, the provider can invite the buyer to leave a review.
That division matters when you set expectations. LinkedIn helps with discovery, matching, and initial conversations; it does not replace a statement of work, consulting agreement, invoice, or payment processor.

Choose the right place to publish
Personal profile Service Page
Use your personal profile when clients are hiring your expertise, reputation, and availability. From your profile, select Add profile section > Add services. LinkedIn presents fields for service categories, an optional About description, work location, remote availability, and either a starting hourly rate or Contact for pricing.
Your personal page is usually the best starting point for an independent consultant because recommendations, employment history, posts, certifications, and direct messages reinforce the same identity a buyer is evaluating. Keep the service offer narrower than your entire career history: a buyer should understand the engagement you sell without decoding a list of every skill you have ever used.
Company Page Service Page
An eligible Company Page can publish services when the company has 500 employees or fewer. The Page can include service categories, a description, location, remote availability, a starting hourly rate or Contact for pricing, and media. A Company Page can also use a Request Services call to action.
Use the Company Page when delivery involves a team, the buyer needs to contract with a business entity, or you want the offer to remain with the firm rather than one individual. Make the relationship between the Page and the people delivering the work clear in the description and media.
Build an offer a buyer can evaluate quickly
A credible Service Page answers six questions before a prospect has to message you:
- Who is it for? Name a role, company type, stage, or situation rather than saying “any business.”
- What problem do you solve? Describe the decision, bottleneck, risk, or missed opportunity in the buyer’s language.
- What outcome will the buyer receive? State a decision made, process improved, risk reduced, plan delivered, or capability transferred. Do not promise an outcome that depends on factors you cannot control.
- What is included? List the meetings, analysis, deliverables, access required, revision rounds, and handoff.
- Why should the buyer trust you? Use relevant experience, recommendations, case examples, credentials, or media that demonstrate the specific result or context.
- What happens next? Give a low-friction action such as sending the current situation, target date, stakeholders, and desired decision.
Write the About description as a buying guide, not a résumé. A useful sequence is: “I help [buyer] achieve [outcome] when [trigger]. The engagement includes [deliverables] over [time frame]. It excludes [boundary]. To assess fit, send [three pieces of information].” Replace the bracketed wording with your actual audience and scope; do not leave template markers in the published text.
Define a measurable outcome without overpromising
Consulting outcomes can be operational rather than financial. Examples include a prioritized migration plan, a documented sales process, a risk assessment with remediation owners, an executive decision brief, or a workshop that leaves a team with an agreed operating model. If revenue, savings, or growth is part of the value, describe it as an opportunity or target unless you control the implementation and can substantiate a guarantee.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesSet boundaries in plain language
State whether the offer includes implementation, stakeholder interviews, data cleaning, travel, training, ongoing support, or only advice. A defined exclusion protects both sides: it prevents a buyer from assuming that a short diagnostic includes an unlimited strategy project and gives you a clean basis for change requests.

Use proof that matches the service
Prioritize evidence that resembles the buyer’s situation. A recommendation about technical leadership is less persuasive for a compliance assessment than a recommendation describing your work on controls, documentation, or audit preparation. If confidentiality prevents naming a client, explain the industry, organization size, problem, work performed, and observable result without disclosing restricted information.
Decide which pricing format fits the work
LinkedIn gives you a display choice, but your underlying commercial model can be hourly, fixed-fee, milestone-based, or a retainer. Match the format to how predictable the work is and how much access the buyer must provide.
| Offer format | Best fit | What the buyer receives | Main pricing consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hourly advisory | Bounded questions, office hours, expert review, or ongoing access with variable topics | Reserved consulting time, preparation, meetings, and agreed follow-up | Define what counts as billable time, the minimum booking, response expectations, and how unused time is handled |
| Fixed-scope diagnostic or workshop | A repeatable problem with a known set of inputs and deliverables | A specified investigation, session, report, decision brief, or action plan | Price the defined scope and state assumptions, access requirements, revision limit, and delivery date |
| Milestone engagement | A project that can be divided into decisions or deliverable stages | Separate outputs at agreed checkpoints, such as discovery, design, and handoff | Set a price and acceptance condition for each milestone; explain what triggers a change |
| Retainer | Continuing access, recurring reviews, or a predictable advisory relationship | A recurring capacity reservation and a defined set of services or response windows | Specify included capacity, rollover rules, priority, notice period, and work outside the retainer |
Hourly pricing is easy to understand but can make a high-value, fast solution appear expensive relative to a slower provider. Fixed pricing rewards efficiency but exposes you to scope creep if the inputs and decision rights are vague. Milestones reduce the buyer’s commitment at the start and create decision points. Retainers improve revenue predictability only when the client understands what capacity they are reserving.
Starting hourly rate or Contact for pricing?
LinkedIn describes the starting price as the minimum amount you charge for your services, not a guarantee of the final price. Treat it as a qualification signal, not as a complete quote.
| Display choice | Use it when | Benefit | Risk to manage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starting hourly rate | You can explain a repeatable minimum scope and the buyer can compare the offer without a discovery process | Sets a budget floor and filters out inquiries that cannot meet it | A buyer may anchor on the minimum even when the project needs specialized work, urgency, or multiple stakeholders |
| Contact for pricing | Scope, risk, access, deliverables, or stakeholder involvement varies materially by project | Leaves room to qualify the situation and price the actual engagement | Some buyers may not know whether you fit their budget, so your description must explain the type and scale of work you accept |
Choose a starting rate when the displayed floor helps the right buyer self-select and you can defend what that minimum buys. Choose Contact for pricing when quoting a single number before discovery would either mislead the buyer or force you to absorb uncertainty. In either case, say what determines the final price: scope, timeline, access, risk, deliverables, or team size.
Calculate a consulting price without inventing a market benchmark
LinkedIn does not publish a universal consulting hourly-rate benchmark. A credible price comes from your economics and the buyer’s value, not from a number labeled “the normal LinkedIn rate.” Build the quote in five passes.
1. Start with the buyer’s value
Identify the decision enabled, risk reduced, time saved, revenue opportunity, or capability delivered. Value does not mean you can claim the entire financial benefit as your fee; it gives you a reasoned context for the level of work and the cost of delay.

2. Define the deliverables and exclusions
Count meetings, interviews, analysis, preparation, documentation, presentations, revisions, implementation support, and handoff. State the data, people, systems, and decisions the client must provide. If a deliverable depends on timely access, make that dependency an assumption in the proposal.

3. Account for total effort and capacity
Estimate delivery hours plus preparation, administration, sales time that is specific to the engagement, subcontractors, and follow-up. Your viable floor must cover operating costs and the hours you cannot bill. A consultant who prices only the live meeting may undercharge for the analysis that makes the meeting useful.
A simple internal model is:
minimum viable hourly rate = annual revenue requirement ÷ realistic billable hours
Use realistic billable hours rather than assuming every working hour is available for client work. Then check whether the resulting floor supports the service quality, insurance, tools, taxes, and reserves your business requires. The number you display publicly can be higher than this floor when your positioning, proof, urgency, or risk justifies it.

4. Adjust for risk and urgency
Charge for compressed timelines, executive exposure, uncertain or poor-quality data, regulated environments, difficult stakeholder alignment, and the cost of a wrong decision. Do not hide a risk premium inside vague language; explain which assumption or constraint causes the difference.
5. Select the commercial format
Use hourly pricing for bounded access, a fixed fee for a defined diagnostic or workshop, and milestones or a retainer for continuing work. If discovery is required to determine which format is safe, use Contact for pricing and make discovery itself a defined step.
Turn an inquiry into a qualified opportunity
When a request arrives, qualify before you write a long proposal. Ask questions that reveal whether the work, timing, authority, and budget can align.
- What decision or problem must be resolved?
- What would a successful engagement produce, and how will the buyer judge it?
- Who owns the decision, who supplies information, and who must approve the work?
- What has already been tried?
- What deadline or event makes the work urgent?
- What access, data, systems, or interviews are available?
- Is the buyer seeking advice, an artifact, implementation, or continuing capacity?
Use LinkedIn messages to establish fit, not to negotiate every legal term. Once the opportunity is real, move to a proposal and external agreement.

- Deliverables: each document, session, analysis, or handoff, with the format and acceptance criteria.
- Timeline and milestones: dates, dependencies, client review windows, and what happens if an input is late.
- Assumptions and exclusions: access, data quality, participant availability, travel, implementation, and revision limits.
- Price and payment schedule: hourly terms, fixed fee, milestone amounts, retainer capacity, deposits, invoices, and due dates.
- Change control: how additional work is requested, estimated, approved, and billed.
- Next step: the person who signs, the information required, and the proposed start date.
LinkedIn’s request-and-proposal workflow does not move those terms or payments into the platform. Use an external consulting agreement and a payment process appropriate to your jurisdiction and business structure.
Improve visibility and response signals
LinkedIn may show an average response time when qualifying responses are made within 24 hours. It may show a response rate when at least 80% of inquiries receive responses. These are platform display conditions, not guarantees that you will receive leads or win work.
Set an operating target you can actually maintain. Create a short acknowledgment that confirms receipt, states when you will review the request, and asks for the missing facts needed to qualify it. If you are unavailable, use a clear handoff or update your availability rather than letting inquiries age silently. A fast response is useful only when it leads to a relevant answer; do not promise a turnaround or result that LinkedIn does not guarantee.

Premium Business, Sales Navigator, and Recruiter Lite can add Service Page detail, media, lead-generation features, and enhanced presentation. They are optional for publishing a basic service offer. Buy an upgrade only when you can identify the specific discovery or qualification problem it addresses and measure whether the additional visibility produces suitable conversations.
Premium Company Page Essentials advertises up to 30 more service matches per month. Eligibility, plan names, pricing, and match limits can change, so verify the current offer in the account you intend to use before treating that figure as available to your business. More matches are not automatically better if your description attracts buyers outside your scope or you cannot respond consistently.
Understand paid consultations announced for 2026
On May 12, 2026, LinkedIn announced that some small businesses and founders can offer paid one-to-one consultations with booking, payment, and video management from a profile. Availability is account-dependent until confirmed in the target account. Do not promise a client that this workflow is available to every consultant or region.
If the feature appears in your account, confirm its eligibility, supported payment and booking behavior, cancellation rules, and how the consultation relates to your external consulting agreement. A paid call can be a productized entry point, but it does not automatically define the scope of follow-on work. Treat any project beyond the booked consultation as a separate proposal.

Publishing a rate without a scope
A number alone invites the buyer to compare commodities. Pair a starting rate with the minimum engagement, included access, response expectations, and factors that change the final quote.
Using a low rate to attract everyone
A low anchor can fill your pipeline with work that cannot support the required preparation or quality. Set a floor based on total effort and capacity, and decline work that cannot meet it.
Promising results outside your control
Separate your deliverable from the client’s implementation. Promise the analysis, plan, decision support, or capability transfer you can provide; define client dependencies for business results.
Treating LinkedIn messages as a contract
Move agreed scope, confidentiality, intellectual property, liability, payment, cancellation, and change control into a signed external agreement.
Ignoring response obligations
If you publish a service but rarely monitor inquiries, you may miss qualified opportunities and lose the benefit of response signals. Set ownership, a review schedule, and a standard qualification reply.
Assuming premium features are required
Start with the basic Service Page and a clear offer. Upgrade only after you know whether the constraint is reach, proof, qualification, or follow-up.
A practical launch checklist
- Choose a personal profile or an eligible Company Page.
- Select service categories that match the offer you can deliver now.
- Write a buyer-specific description with one problem and one measurable outcome.
- List inclusions, exclusions, timeline, access requirements, and the next step.
- Add relevant recommendations, case examples, credentials, or media.
- Set work location and remote availability accurately.
- Choose a starting hourly rate only if the minimum scope is repeatable; otherwise select Contact for pricing.
- Prepare qualification questions and a response process.
- Use a proposal template with assumptions, milestones, payment schedule, and change control.
- Sign an external agreement before beginning substantive work.
- Review response performance and the quality of inquiries, not just their volume.
- Recheck account-dependent premium and consultation features before advertising them.
How to decide whether your offer is ready
Ask a colleague who is not familiar with your work to read the Service Page once. They should be able to say who it serves, what problem it addresses, what they receive, how the engagement starts, and whether the displayed price is a floor or a quote. If they cannot, simplify the offer before buying more visibility.
