Use the Mortal Shell II map as a routing aid: reveal fogged territory with a map fragment, orient yourself by the named region and a nearby landmark or beacon, then show only the marker groups that fit your immediate goal. Filter for Shells or weapons when looking for combat options; switch to pickups, materials, interactables, and traversal features for a cleanup run.

How to use map filters

Think of marker groups by what you are trying to do, rather than assuming that a guide’s category names match the exact labels in the game’s current interface. After you reveal an area, use a named region and a nearby recognizable location to choose a route. Keep one useful anchor visible, and hide unrelated marker groups to reduce clutter.

Goal Marker groups to show How to use them
Open a new area Navigation anchors, beacons or rest points, and the relevant objective group Reveal the map section, then use a nearby anchor to plan a route toward the objective.
Continue story progress Objectives and special entries Keep the markers relevant to the named region visible; hide routine collectibles if they distract from the destination.
Find combat options Shells and weapons Show the equipment category after revealing the terrain so you can distinguish possible item routes.
Explore an enclosed destination Dungeons and interiors Focus on interior markers for the region you are exploring.
Collect missed resources Pickups, materials, interactables, and traversal Switch to these groups after handling the main destination, then sweep the opened area.

Other useful functional groups include roads, passes, overlooks, settlements, and other navigation anchors. These help with orientation; they do not necessarily indicate an entrance or the direction you must travel. Interactable and traversal markers may identify usable objects or route features such as lifts and elevators, not necessarily rewards.

Reveal and route through a new area

  1. Use a map fragment. The available guide describes fragments as revealing fogged sections of the map.
  2. Find your location. Read the named region and identify a nearby beacon, rest point, or recognizable landmark as a route anchor.
  3. Show the markers for your goal. Use objective markers for progression, equipment markers to look for a Shell or weapon, or interior markers for an enclosed destination.
  4. Plan one branch at a time. If you are gathering optional items, choose a route anchor and one nearby branch, finish that branch, and return to the anchor before opening another. This is optional route-planning advice, not a game rule.

How to interpret place names and uncertain markers

A map name is a lookup and orientation clue, not proof of an entrance, route direction, or unlock order. Terms such as “road,” “pass,” “path,” “cliffs,” “valley,” “grove,” “mire,” or “shoals” tell you which named area to inspect. Match the full region and destination name, then use nearby terrain and landmarks to work out an approach.

Treat a marker without a named item as a location clue until you confirm it in-game. It could represent a traversal point or technical objective rather than a collectible. If marker art or interface labels differ from a guide, prioritize the marker’s purpose, destination name, and surrounding region; do not rely on a remembered color or shape.

Are third-party maps complete for the current game?

Not necessarily. The Mortal Shell II Fan Wiki labels its interactive pins as Open Beta Build 24459107 data and says they are not a complete retail-client map. Its page separately reports 11 launch-period map-fragment routes—five in Fainweald and six in Mammon. Those are counts reported by that page, not verified totals for the current retail game.

A separate unofficial map guide describes 54 locations as beta reference data and warns that names, routes, marker categories, rewards, and encounter placement may change. Neither figure should be treated as a definitive count of retail map markers or locations. The guides provide functional categories and route clues, but not a verified, complete legend of the current retail interface.
