Use the player list, scoreboard, Social menu, or the title’s report screen to control another player. Mute is the fastest, usually session-only way to stop hearing someone; block restricts communication and invitations until you undo it; report sends a conduct concern to Activision for review. The menu path and even the available combined “Report & Block” button vary by Call of Duty game, platform, and update, so follow the title-specific instructions below.
Choose the right control first
These actions solve different problems. Pick the least drastic option that matches what is happening.

A report does not guarantee a suspension, ban, or message back to you. Activision says reports may lead to a warning, suspension, or ban, but account-specific actions are confidential. The reported player may be told that a report was made and why, while the reporter’s identity is not disclosed in the cited Modern Warfare guidance.

The following labels and routes come from Activision’s Black Ops 6 communication guide. They are title-specific; another Call of Duty release may place the same control elsewhere.

Mute someone in the pre-game lobby
- Open the Player List in the pre-game lobby.
- Highlight the player you want to silence.
- Open the player actions menu.
- Select Mute.
Black Ops 6’s guide describes this as a current-play-session control. It resets when a new session starts, and the muted player cannot hear you. If you want to silence everyone for the next match, open the lobby’s Voice menu and choose Mute All.
Mute during a match
- Open the match interface that displays the current players.
- Highlight the player’s name.
- Open the available player actions.
- Choose Mute.
If the name or action menu is missing, use the lobby route after the match or check whether the current mode exposes a scoreboard-style player list.
Block from the lobby, scoreboard, or Social menu
Black Ops 6 provides several entry points:
- Pre-game lobby: highlight the player in the Player List, open player actions, and choose Block Player.
- During or after a match: open the player’s profile from the match scoreboard and select Block Player.
- Social menu: open the player’s profile or entry and choose Block Player.
A block restricts communication and invitations between you and that player. If you were connected through the Activision Friends List, the block removes that connection; it does not remove the person from your console or other platform account’s Friends list.

To find blocked accounts, open Social > Recent > Blocked Players, or use Settings > Account & Network. Select the account and use the available unblock control. The exact confirmation wording can vary by platform and later updates.

Call of Duty: Warzone — report from a match, lobby, or Social
Warzone documents three reporting routes. Use whichever screen you can reach without leaving the current activity.
Report from the in-match scoreboard
- Open the Scoreboard.
- Highlight the player.
- Choose View Profile.
- Select Report Player.
- Choose one or more reasons that match the behavior.
- If you also want to stop future contact, select Report & Block Player when that option is shown, then submit.
Report from the lobby player list
- Highlight the player in the lobby’s player list.
- Open the player actions and select Report Player.
- Select the applicable reason or reasons.
- Choose the combined report-and-block option if offered, then confirm.
Report through Social
- Open Social.
- Find the account under Party & Friends or Recent.
- Select the player and choose Report Player.
- Pick the reason category or categories and submit. Apply Report & Block Player if you need both actions.
Use the most specific reason available. A report is more useful when the category accurately describes what happened instead of being chosen simply because it is the first item in the list.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II — report, add details, or block
Submit a report
- Open Options.
- Choose Report Player.
- Select one or more players.
- Select one or more report reasons.
- Optionally enter context in More Details.
- Choose Send Report, or choose Report & Block Player to apply both controls.
Keep the optional message factual and specific: describe what you observed, when it occurred, and which game behavior prompted the report. Do not include personal information about yourself or another player.

Block without reporting
- Open the Social hub.
- Select the player’s Details.
- Choose Block & Report.
- Select Block Player rather than submitting a report.
- Confirm the block.
The separate block path is useful when you simply want to end communication and do not have a conduct concern to send to Activision.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare — report a recent player
- Open Social.
- Choose Recent Players.
- Select the player.
- Choose Report Player.
- Select the reason that best describes the conduct and submit.
If the person is currently on your Friends list, the cited guide advises removing them from that list before reporting. This is a title-specific instruction; do not assume every Call of Duty game requires that extra step.
Call of Duty: Mobile — report from match history or the post-match screen
Report from your profile and History
- Tap your profile picture.
- Open the History tab.
- For a recent Multiplayer match, select the match. For Battle Royale, switch to a recent Battle Royale match.
- Tap the exclamation-mark icon.
- Select the player.
- Choose a report type.
- Add information if the form allows it, then submit.
Report immediately after a match
Mobile also makes reporting available from the Winner’s Circle immediately after a match. Select the player, open the report control, choose the reason, add optional information, and submit before leaving that screen.
How to decide between muting, blocking, and reporting
Use mute when the problem is limited to voice chat
Mute is the quickest response to loud microphones, arguments, music, or a teammate you do not want to hear for one match. In Black Ops 6, it also prevents the other player hearing you and ends automatically with the session. Because it is temporary, you will need to apply it again in a later session if the same person reappears.

Use block when you want a continuing boundary
Block is appropriate for repeated unwanted messages, invitations, or contact. In Black Ops 6 it covers communication and invites rather than only voice, and it remains until you remove it. Blocking alone does not tell Activision that a rule may have been broken.

Use report for conduct concerns
Report cheating, harassment, hate speech, threats, or other behavior that violates the game’s rules. Select every applicable reason the form allows, but do not exaggerate or choose unrelated categories. In Modern Warfare II, use More Details for concise context; in other titles, the form may not provide a text field.
Use both when you need immediate protection and review
Warzone and Modern Warfare II document a combined Report & Block Player option. If your title shows that option, it saves a second trip through the menus. If it does not, submit the report first and then use the title’s separate block control.

Activision says submitted reports are reviewed. Possible actions include a warning, suspension, or ban, but the company does not promise a particular penalty or timetable. It may notify the reported player that a report was made and provide the reason. The cited Modern Warfare guidance says Activision does not reveal the reporter’s identity and cannot provide account-specific updates or disclose what action was taken because those details are confidential.
Do not submit duplicate reports for the same incident merely to seek a faster response. If the behavior continues, preserve the relevant in-game details and use the reporting flow again when there is a new incident.

Voice-chat moderation is separate from your report
Activision’s Voice Chat Moderation FAQ describes a system operated by Activision that uses the AI model ToxMod from Modulate. The FAQ says the system focuses on harmful behavior under the Call of Duty Code of Conduct rather than simply matching isolated keywords, and it emphasizes that player reports remain valuable.
The FAQ is dated October 10, 2024, describes a beta overview, and says its title coverage, regions, and supported languages can change. Do not treat its listed rollout as a confirmed 2026 feature for every game or country.
Opt out of in-game voice recording and moderation
Players who do not want their in-game voice chat recorded and moderated can disable in-game voice chat in the game’s settings. The exact menu label depends on the title and platform, so look in the audio or voice-chat settings rather than assuming one universal path.

Understand voice penalties
The FAQ says a voice warning or an in-game voice-communication penalty does not by itself stop the player continuing to play. It describes voice-chat muting penalties as temporary and not eligible for appeal, while extreme or repeated offenses may lead to an online suspension under the cited policy.
Troubleshooting when the option is missing
- You are looking in the wrong title’s menu: Warzone, Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare, Mobile, and Black Ops 6 use different routes. Use the section for the exact game and mode.
- The player is no longer visible: check Recent Players, match history, or the Social menu. Mobile uses profile History; Modern Warfare uses Social > Recent Players.
- You can mute but cannot block: the current mode or interface may expose only session controls. Try the player profile from Social or the scoreboard after the match.
- You cannot find the report form: return to the scoreboard, lobby player list, Social menu, or Options menu specified for your title. Menu labels can change after updates.
- The person is a platform friend: a game-level block may not remove a console or platform friendship. Black Ops 6 explicitly distinguishes its Activision Friends List from the platform account’s Friends list.
- The report reason does not fit: choose the closest accurate category and add factual context where a details field is provided. Do not select unrelated reasons just to complete the form.
- You expect a confirmation or penalty: Activision does not promise a case update or disclose account-specific enforcement.
Privacy and safety while reporting
- Describe observable in-game conduct, not assumptions about the player’s identity or motives.
- Do not include passwords, payment information, addresses, or other personal data in an optional details field.
- If a threat appears immediate or credible outside the game, preserve relevant evidence and contact the appropriate local emergency or law-enforcement service; an in-game report is not an emergency response channel.
- Use mute or block immediately if you need to stop contact while a report is being reviewed.
