You can move Samsung Gallery photos to another cloud service, but the safest route is a download-and-verify migration rather than deleting anything during the upload. As of September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery no longer syncs directly with OneDrive. Files already in OneDrive remain in OneDrive, but they no longer appear in the Samsung Gallery view and are not automatically copied to Google Photos, Amazon Photos, or another provider.
First establish whether each original is on your phone or only in OneDrive, then stage the files locally, upload a small test batch, check dates and playback, and keep the source copy until the new cloud library is confirmed.
What changed with Samsung Gallery and OneDrive
The Samsung Gallery–OneDrive link ended on September 30, 2026. Samsung described the change as “This feature is ending on September 30, 2026,” while Microsoft stated that Samsung Gallery would no longer sync directly with OneDrive from that date.

Existing photographs and videos that were already uploaded remain in your OneDrive account and can be opened from the OneDrive app or the OneDrive website. What changes is the Gallery view: those OneDrive items stop appearing there. Nothing in the shutdown automatically transfers the library to another cloud provider.

Before moving anything, identify which of these situations applies:
- Local original: the full-resolution file is still stored on the phone or an attached storage device.
- OneDrive-only original: Gallery shows a thumbnail or cloud item, but the full file must be downloaded from OneDrive.
- Existing second copy: the same item is already backed up somewhere else, such as Google Photos.
A Gallery thumbnail is not proof that the original is downloaded. Open an item while offline, inspect its file details, or download it from OneDrive before treating it as a migration source.
Choose the destination before you start
The right destination depends on the apps you already use, available storage, how you organize albums, and what should happen when you delete or edit a photo. Current official instructions describe different workflows, so there is no single cloud-to-cloud button that works for every Samsung Gallery library.

Check the destination account’s current storage allowance before a bulk upload. Google says backed-up media consumes Google Account storage, and Microsoft requires available OneDrive quota for new Camera backup uploads. The available plans and prices vary by region and can change; the official workflows do not establish a like-for-like price comparison.
Prepare a safe migration
1. Inventory the source
Open OneDrive and Samsung Gallery and determine where the originals live. Pay special attention to older folders, screenshots, downloaded images, edited copies, motion photos, and videos. If an item exists only in OneDrive, download it before uploading to another service. If you have already backed up a folder elsewhere, record that fact so you do not create unnecessary duplicates.
2. Confirm storage and permissions
- Check free space in the destination account and on the phone or computer used as temporary storage.
- Update Samsung Gallery, OneDrive, Google Photos, or the Amazon Photos desktop app where possible. Labels can vary by Samsung software version and carrier.
- Allow the destination app to access photos and videos when Android requests media permission.
- For a computer transfer, use a stable connection and avoid putting the computer to sleep during a large upload.
3. Stage a representative test batch
Choose a small set that includes an older photograph, a recent camera image, at least one video, an edited image, and files from a non-camera folder such as Screenshots or Downloads. A test batch reveals date, album, format, and deletion behavior before you risk the complete library.

4. Keep the source untouched
Do not delete Gallery items, OneDrive files, or local folders while the destination is still processing. Do not use a “free up space” command until you have opened files in the new service and checked that the count and organization are acceptable. The documented download and upload procedures are separate operations; they do not provide an atomic, rollback-safe migration.

Option 1: Continue using OneDrive for new Samsung photos
If you are satisfied with OneDrive, you do not need to move the files that are already there. They remain accessible in OneDrive after the Gallery integration ends. You do need to configure a new backup path for photographs taken from now on.
- Open the OneDrive app on the Samsung phone and sign in.
- Open the profile or account selector and choose the Microsoft account that should hold the camera backup.
- Choose Camera backup.
- Confirm that the correct account is selected, enable the feature, and grant access to photos and videos when prompted.
- Check the OneDrive storage indicator and make sure the account has enough quota for new media.
Camera backup is for new camera-roll media. It is not a command to copy an existing OneDrive library into another service, and it does not restore the old Samsung Gallery integration. For folders that are not part of the camera roll, use the destination app’s supported folder or upload method and verify them separately.
When this is the simplest choice
- Your existing library is already in OneDrive and you mainly need continued backup for new camera shots.
- You regularly work with OneDrive on your computer or other devices.
- You do not need Gallery to display the OneDrive library as a synchronized view.
Option 2: Move the library to Google Photos
Google Photos can back up selected folders from a Samsung device. This is a device-to-cloud workflow: files must be available locally on the phone first. Download OneDrive-only originals before enabling the backup folders.
Set up folder backup
- Open Google Photos and sign in to the Google account that should store the library.
- Open the profile menu, then Photos settings and Backup.
- Open the setting for backing up device folders.
- Select the folders you need, such as Camera, Screenshots, or Downloads. Do not assume that every Samsung Gallery album maps to a physical device folder.
- Confirm the backup account and quality setting, then leave the phone connected to power and Wi-Fi while the test batch uploads.
Google says backed-up media uses Google Account storage and is stored at original quality. Review the account’s available storage before starting the complete library.
Understand the deletion relationship
Google documents a two-way deletion consequence for the Samsung Gallery integration: deleting a synced item from Samsung Gallery or Google Photos removes it from both apps and from cloud storage. Test with a nonessential item and read the confirmation prompt before adopting this workflow for your primary library. If you want an archive that cannot be removed by a phone-side deletion, retain a separate copy outside the synchronized set.

Understand edits and albums
An edit made in Samsung Gallery may appear in Google Photos as an additional item. Editing on the web or on another device does not overwrite the original local Samsung photo. Album names, folder nesting, and other Gallery organization may not reproduce exactly when files are uploaded as device-folder backups. Check a sample of edited images and non-camera folders before removing any originals.
Option 3: Import through the Amazon Photos desktop app
The documented Amazon Photos route uses a computer folder or an external drive. It is not a direct import from Samsung Gallery or from a OneDrive cloud folder. First download the Samsung originals to local storage, then point the desktop uploader at that location.
Prepare the computer folder
- On the Samsung phone, download the files that are stored only in OneDrive. Keep the original file extensions and do not resize the files during the transfer.
- Copy the files to a computer folder or compatible external drive. Arrange subfolders if that helps you preserve your own organization, but do not assume those folders will become identical albums in the destination.
- Open several copied files locally, including videos and older images, to confirm that the staging copy is readable before uploading.
Configure the desktop uploader
- Install the Amazon Photos desktop app for Windows or macOS and sign in.
- Open Backup, then choose Add backup folder.
- Select the computer folder or external drive containing the staged Samsung files.
- Configure recurrence and file preferences as appropriate for your library.
- Choose Save, then wait for the initial upload to complete.
The Amazon help material describing this process is published for the UK service. Account terms, supported features, and availability can differ in another country, so confirm the settings shown in your own app.
What this route does not do
It does not pull files directly from Samsung Gallery or OneDrive. It also does not guarantee that every Gallery album, edit history, timestamp, or metadata field will be recreated. Treat the computer folder as a staging copy and validate the uploaded result before deleting it.
If the source library is already in Google Photos
Google Takeout can copy eligible Google Photos media to another service, but it is not a general solution for files that still exist only in Samsung Gallery or OneDrive. Use it only after confirming that Google Photos contains the originals you want to export.
Google says a Takeout transfer does not delete the source copy. It also warns that some content may not transfer, including unsupported file types, Locked Folder content, unsaved creations, items in Trash, and manually edited metadata. Repeating a transfer can create duplicates. After the export or transfer, compare the destination with the original Google Photos library and retain the source until the comparison is complete.

How to verify the migration before deleting anything
Check the file count
Compare the number of source items with the number shown by the destination where both services expose a reliable count. Counts may differ when a service creates an additional edited item, groups motion content, or excludes an unsupported file, so investigate the difference rather than assuming every discrepancy is an error.
Open representative files
- Open several full-resolution photographs from different years.
- Play short and long videos from the test set, including any unusual formats.
- Inspect an edited photograph and confirm whether the original and edited versions are both present as expected.
- Check screenshots, downloads, and other non-camera folders.
Inspect dates and organization
Look at capture dates, time zones, filenames, and folder or album placement. A manual download and re-upload may preserve the image bytes while changing how the destination displays dates or groups albums. The official Samsung and Amazon instructions do not promise complete preservation of every Gallery metadata field or album semantic.
Test deletion behavior
Use a disposable test item to see whether deleting in one app deletes the cloud copy or a linked copy elsewhere. This is essential for Google Photos because Google documents deletion from either Samsung Gallery or Google Photos as removing the synced item from both apps and cloud storage. Do not perform the test with an irreplaceable photograph.
Retain a second copy
Keep the original OneDrive library, the local staging folder, or another independent backup until the destination has passed your checks. A second copy is especially important for videos, edited files, and material with sentimental or legal value.

Only thumbnails are available
Download the item from the OneDrive app before uploading it elsewhere. A Gallery thumbnail can remain visible even when the full-resolution original is not stored on the phone. Check the downloaded file locally before starting the destination upload.
The destination is missing screenshots or downloads
Review the selected device folders. Google Photos folder backup is selective; enabling Camera does not automatically include every Samsung Gallery album. For Amazon Photos, add the corresponding subfolder to the computer backup selection.

Videos fail or remain pending
Confirm that the local copy plays before uploading, that the destination has sufficient quota, and that the phone or computer remains connected during processing. Keep the original failed item and retry from that copy rather than deleting it.
Dates or albums look different
Do not infer that a changed display date means the image bytes were altered. Compare the file details and the destination’s date rules, then inspect several samples. Album and folder structures are not guaranteed to map one-to-one during a manual transfer.
Duplicate items appear
Duplicates can result from uploading the same folder twice, from an edited copy being represented separately, or from repeating a Google Takeout transfer. Stop the bulk job, identify the duplicate pattern, and keep the source until you know which copy is complete.

Check the destination account’s quota and the size of the remaining local library. Do not delete the source simply to make room. Expand storage, choose a different destination, or upload in verified batches while retaining the originals.
Permission prompts were declined
Open the phone’s app permissions, allow the chosen backup app to access the required photos and videos, then restart the upload. Samsung software and Android permission labels vary by version, so use the current labels displayed on the device.
Using a USB-C drive as temporary staging
A USB-C flash drive or portable SSD can provide temporary space when the phone lacks room to download a large OneDrive library. Check that the drive’s connector works with the Samsung phone, that its capacity exceeds the files you plan to stage, and that the phone can write to its formatted file system. A computer’s internal disk works just as well when it has enough free space.
External storage is only a bridge. It is not the cloud backup itself. After copying files to the drive, open a sample, upload from the drive or computer, and keep another source copy until the destination has been verified.

- Stay with OneDrive if the existing library is already there and you only need Camera backup for new photos.
- Choose Google Photos if you want selected Samsung device folders backed up in a photo-centric app and you accept the documented two-way deletion behavior.
- Choose Amazon Photos if a computer-folder workflow suits you and you are prepared to stage files locally first.
- Use Google Takeout only when Google Photos is the actual source library; it is not a shortcut for retrieving Gallery-only or OneDrive-only originals.
- Delay cleanup until a representative batch has passed file, date, organization, playback, count, and deletion tests.
The reliable pattern is the same whichever destination you select: locate the originals, stage them locally when necessary, upload a test batch, verify the result, then process the rest while preserving an independent copy.
