You can move euros in either direction by selecting a EUR funding method in Kraken, using the exact beneficiary details Kraken displays, and sending or receiving the transfer from a bank account in your own legal name. Ordinary SEPA deposits generally take 0–3 business days; supported SEPA Instant routes can settle in less than 10 seconds. EUR withdrawals use a separate cash-withdrawal flow and can be near-instant or take up to five business days, depending on the method and region.
The details that matter most are the provider Kraken offers for your account, the bank-name match, the reference or purpose fields Kraken requests, and the fee and limit shown immediately before you confirm. Processors, interface labels, availability and charges can change, so copy the current instructions from your Kraken account for every transfer.
What you need before transferring euros
Complete Kraken’s account verification before attempting a cash transfer. The available EUR providers, limits and withdrawal methods depend on your verification level, residence, account type and activity. Kraken describes its cash limits as dynamic rather than universal.
- A verified Kraken account with EUR funding enabled.
- A bank account held in the same legal name as the Kraken account.
- Access to your bank’s SEPA or SEPA Instant transfer function, if you want instant settlement.
- The current beneficiary name, IBAN, bank details, reference and payment-purpose instructions displayed in Kraken.
- Enough balance to cover the transfer and any bank or intermediary charge.
Do not reuse an old IBAN or assume that instructions for one processor apply to another. Open the relevant funding screen each time and copy the details exactly.

How to deposit euros from a SEPA bank account into Kraken
- Open Kraken’s funding flow. In the Kraken website or app, choose the option to add money or fund the account, then select EUR.
- Choose an available provider. Select a SEPA or SEPA Instant method that Kraken offers for your account and country. The provider name, settlement speed, beneficiary IBAN and any required fields appear on the method screen.
- Copy the beneficiary details. Record the beneficiary name, IBAN and every instruction exactly as shown. If Kraken asks for an AA-prefixed Kraken Public Account ID, enter that reference in your bank’s reference or message field. Do not invent a reference when the selected method does not request one.
- Set up the payment in your bank. Start a EUR SEPA transfer to the beneficiary. The currency must be EUR; sending another currency to a EUR method can delay or prevent crediting.
- Check the account-name match. Send from a bank account whose legal holder name matches the verified name on Kraken. A joint or business account can require additional review if its ownership details do not match what Kraken has on file.
- Review and authorize. Confirm the IBAN, amount, reference, currency and beneficiary before approving the payment. Keep your bank confirmation and transaction identifier until the balance appears in Kraken.
Kraken lists a 1 EUR minimum for its listed SEPA deposit methods. Those methods generally show no Kraken deposit fee, although your bank or an intermediary bank can still charge. The amount and fee displayed in your account at the time of transfer take precedence over a general description.
What happens after you send the deposit
An ordinary SEPA deposit normally processes in 0–3 business days. A supported SEPA Instant route can arrive almost immediately when both the sending bank and the receiving processor support instant settlement. “Instant” describes the payment rail, not a guarantee that every transfer is credited without checks: bank screening or Kraken compliance checks can add a short delay.
Do not send a second payment simply because the first is not visible yet. First compare the bank’s completed status, value date, amount, beneficiary IBAN and reference with Kraken’s instructions. A duplicate can create a second reconciliation problem.
How to withdraw euros from Kraken to your bank
- Open the withdrawal screen. In Kraken, go to Transfer > Withdraw.
- Select the asset and destination type. Choose EUR, then select a cash withdrawal method that is available for your account and region.
- Add your own bank account. Enter the bank details requested by the selected method. The destination must be an account held in your own name; do not route the withdrawal through a third-party merchant payment processor.
- Enter the amount. Check the method-specific minimum, fee and displayed arrival estimate before submitting. Leave enough EUR to pay the listed withdrawal fee.
- Confirm the request. Complete any email, two-factor or other confirmation Kraken requests. Save the withdrawal ID and the bank’s incoming-payment record.
Kraken’s listed SEPA withdrawal methods in the cited fee table have minimums of 2–3 EUR and fees of 0.90 EUR or 1 EUR. Processing ranges from near-instant to 0–5 business days, depending on the method and region. The method shown in your account is the authoritative one because availability and pricing are regional.

Why a withdrawal can take longer than the estimate
A displayed estimate is an operating range, not a promise. The processor may perform a bank or compliance check, the destination bank may process incoming SEPA files on its own schedule, or a weekend and bank holiday may fall inside an ordinary-business-day estimate. If Kraken shows the withdrawal as completed, ask your bank to search using the payment reference and value date before opening a duplicate request.
SEPA versus SEPA Instant
SEPA is the euro-payment framework used by participating European banks. Ordinary SEPA transfers are normally handled in business-day cycles. SEPA Instant is designed for continuous settlement: Kraken states that it is a 24/7/365 scheme in which transfers settle in less than 10 seconds.
That speed applies only when the sending and receiving banks, the selected Kraken processor and the transaction itself all support SCT Instant. A bank’s ordinary SEPA capability does not automatically mean it supports instant transfers for every account. Screening can also create a short delay even on the instant rail.

This network ceiling is separate from Kraken’s account limits and from any lower limit imposed by your bank or the selected provider. A transfer below €100,000 can still be rejected or held if another limit applies.

| Factor | Ordinary SEPA | SEPA Instant |
|---|---|---|
| Settlement design | Business-day processing | 24/7/365 instant scheme |
| Kraken’s stated timing | Deposits generally 0–3 business days; withdrawal timing depends on method | Transfers can settle in less than 10 seconds when supported |
| Conditions | Uses a participating SEPA bank and available Kraken provider | Both banks and the Kraken processor must support SCT Instant |
| Potential delay | Weekends, holidays, bank processing and compliance checks | Bank checks or compliance checks can still delay crediting |
| Network ceiling | Set by the applicable bank and Kraken method | €100,000 per SCT Instant transaction in 2026 |
Choose instant settlement for a time-sensitive payment only after checking that the option is actually offered in your Kraken funding screen and by your bank. Compare the total cost, not just the speed: a “free” Kraken method can still incur a sending-bank or intermediary charge.
Fees, minimums and cash limits
| Transfer direction or limit | Value shown by Kraken’s cited information | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| EUR deposit minimum | 1 EUR | Applies to Kraken’s listed SEPA deposit methods; verify the method screen. |
| Kraken EUR deposit fee | Generally free | Bank or intermediary fees can still apply. |
| EUR withdrawal minimum | 2–3 EUR | Varies by listed withdrawal method. |
| EUR withdrawal fee | 0.90–1 EUR | Method-specific and regional. |
| Standard verified-individual cash limit | 100,000 USD per rolling 24 hours; 500,000 USD per rolling 30 days | Kraken’s 2026 limits-page figures; actual limits vary by verification, residence, account type, activity and asset. |
Rolling limits are not calendar-day allowances. A transfer can consume available capacity until the relevant 24-hour or 30-day window moves forward. The limit currency shown by Kraken is USD even when the payment itself is EUR; the account’s live limits page determines whether a particular request fits.
Fees and minimums can change when Kraken changes a processor or regional offering. Read the confirmation panel immediately before authorizing, and account for any charge your bank deducts from the amount sent or received.

Why Kraken can place a transfer on hold
A hold does not necessarily mean the funds are lost. Kraken identifies several common triggers:
Rank #4
- EAL5+ CERTIFIED SECURE ELEMENT + FINGERPRINT PROTECTION — Your private keys stay encrypted offline on a certified EAL5+ chip, the same security tier used in EMV bank cards. Built by DCENT, securing crypto since 2018. Fingerprint authentication adds a second layer no PIN-only wallet can match.
- 10,000+ ASSETS NATIVE ON 100+ BLOCKCHAINS — Hold Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Cardano, popular stablecoins (USDT, USDC), and NFTs in one wallet. No third-party apps, no fragmented setup — every supported asset works straight out of the box.
- TAP-TO-SIGN MOBILE EXPERIENCE — Pair your wallet with the DCENT mobile app over Bluetooth. Manage tokens, review transactions, and access in-app swap features directly from your phone — no cables, no desktop required.
- WEB3 & dAPP ACCESS VIA METAMASK — Connect to MetaMask and other browser extension wallets to manage NFTs, claim airdrops, and access dApps. A large screen and intuitive 4-button interface keep every transaction clearly visible before you sign.
- SEAMLESS FIRMWARE UPDATES & 30-DAY MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE — Apply security updates without resetting your wallet or migrating funds. Backed by Amazon's 30-day money-back guarantee — your purchase is risk-free.
- Funding-limit excess: the request exceeds the rolling cash limit available to your account.
- Name mismatch: the sending or receiving bank account is not in the same legal name as the Kraken account.
- Compliance review: Kraken or a banking partner needs to check the transaction, account activity or payment details.
- Incorrect payment data: the wrong IBAN, currency, reference or beneficiary information prevents automatic matching.
Some holds release automatically after the relevant check; others require manual review. Avoid repeated retries, edits to the beneficiary and attempts to route money through another person’s account, because those actions can create additional mismatches.
What to do when a deposit is held
- Open the EUR deposit method in Kraken and compare its current IBAN, beneficiary and reference with the bank receipt.
- Confirm that your bank sent EUR from an account in your verified legal name.
- Check whether the amount would exceed your available rolling cash limit.
- Keep the bank transfer confirmation, value date, amount and payment identifier ready.
- Respond to any Kraken verification request through the account’s support flow and wait for the stated review.
What to do when a withdrawal is held
- Review the withdrawal status and any message attached to the transaction.
- Verify that the destination bank account belongs to you and that its details are current.
- Check the remaining EUR balance after the method fee and the account’s rolling limit.
- Do not ask a merchant or unrelated payment processor to receive the money on your behalf.
- If Kraken requests documents or clarification, submit them through the authenticated Kraken channel and retain the withdrawal ID.
References, payment purposes and provider-specific instructions
Reference rules are not universal. Kraken may request an AA-prefixed Kraken Public Account ID for a particular deposit method so the incoming payment can be matched automatically. Enter it exactly in the field your bank labels reference, message or remittance information.
For Banking Circle EUR SEPA, Kraken states that the personal account is with the German branch, uses a DE-format IBAN and does not require a deposit reference or payment purpose. That description applies to that provider, not to every EUR method. If another provider’s screen asks for a reference or purpose, follow that instruction instead; if it does not, do not add a guessed code.

A payment-purpose field belongs to the bank transfer form, while a Kraken Public Account ID is an account-reconciliation reference. They are not interchangeable. If your bank truncates a reference, contact the bank before sending rather than relying on a partial value.

How to choose between available EUR methods
Use this decision order when more than one provider appears:
- Availability: eliminate methods not offered for your country, verification level or bank.
- Destination and ownership: confirm that the method supports your own bank account and accepts the account type you use.
- Speed: select SEPA Instant only when both banks and the Kraken processor support it and the timing matters.
- Total cost: add Kraken’s displayed fee to any bank or intermediary charge.
- Limits: compare the amount with the method minimum, your available Kraken rolling limit and your bank’s transfer limit.
- Traceability: choose a method whose reference or purpose requirements your bank can transmit without truncation.
| Priority | What to verify in Kraken and your bank | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Fast arrival | SEPA Instant is displayed and supported by both banks | Instant settlement is conditional, not automatic. |
| Lowest advertised Kraken cost | The confirmation panel shows no Kraken fee | Your bank or an intermediary can still charge. |
| Large transfer | Remaining rolling Kraken capacity and bank limit | The SCT Instant network ceiling and account limits are separate. |
| Easy reconciliation | Required reference, purpose and beneficiary fields fit your bank form | Missing or altered data can trigger a hold. |
Troubleshooting by symptom
“My deposit has not arrived.”
- Check whether the bank marks the payment as sent or merely scheduled.
- Verify that the payment was EUR and used the current Kraken IBAN.
- Compare the sender name with your verified Kraken name.
- Check the reference or Public Account ID, if the method required one.
- Allow the method’s stated processing window, then provide Kraken with the bank confirmation and payment identifier.
“The instant transfer is still pending.”
Instant rails target settlement in less than 10 seconds, but bank checks can create short delays. Confirm that the bank actually submitted SCT Instant rather than ordinary SEPA, and that the Kraken method supports instant credit for your account. If the bank shows completion but Kraken does not, use the payment identifier when contacting support.
“My withdrawal was rejected.”
- Check that the destination is your own bank account, not a merchant processor.
- Confirm the IBAN and account-holder name.
- Check the method minimum, fee and remaining EUR balance.
- Review the available rolling cash limit and any compliance message.
- Correct the specific issue and submit one new request only after the rejected request’s status is clear.
“The fee is different from what I expected.”
Use the fee shown for the selected method at confirmation. Kraken’s listed EUR withdrawal fees are method-specific, while deposit methods generally show no Kraken fee. A bank or intermediary can add a separate charge or deduct it from the transferred amount.
Safety and record-keeping checklist
- Open Kraken directly rather than following an unsolicited payment link.
- Copy the IBAN and beneficiary from the current EUR method screen.
- Send only EUR to a EUR deposit method.
- Use a bank account in your own legal name.
- Include the exact reference or payment purpose when requested.
- Review the fee, minimum, limit and estimated timing before confirming.
- Save the bank receipt, payment identifier and Kraken transaction ID.
- Never disclose your Kraken password, authentication codes or recovery credentials to someone claiming to “release” a transfer.
Practical examples
Example: a routine EUR deposit
You select a SEPA EUR deposit method, copy its IBAN and required AA-prefixed account reference, and send 500 EUR from a bank account bearing the same legal name as your Kraken account. The selected method shows a 1 EUR minimum and no Kraken deposit fee. If your bank uses ordinary SEPA, allow the method’s 0–3-business-day range; if both sides support the offered instant route, settlement can be much faster. Keep the receipt until Kraken credits the balance.
Example: a small EUR withdrawal
You choose Transfer > Withdraw, select EUR and a listed SEPA cash method, then add your own bank account. If that method shows a 2 EUR minimum and a 0.90 EUR fee, your available balance must cover both the requested amount and the fee. The actual arrival estimate may be near-instant or extend to five business days, depending on the provider and region displayed in your account.
Example: a large instant transfer
A €100,000 request reaches the SCT Instant network ceiling for one transaction in 2026. Even if the network permits that amount, Kraken’s available rolling limit, your verification status, the provider’s regional limit and your bank’s own limit can be lower. Check all four before authorizing; splitting a payment does not bypass a Kraken rolling limit.
Final decision checklist
- Is the account verified and is EUR funding available?
- Does the sending or receiving bank account have the same legal name as Kraken?
- Did you copy the current provider IBAN and every required reference?
- Is the payment currency EUR?
- Does the amount meet the method minimum and fit the available rolling limit?
- Have you checked Kraken’s displayed fee plus possible bank charges?
- Is SEPA Instant genuinely supported by both banks and the selected Kraken method?
- Have you saved the transfer receipt and Kraken transaction ID?
For a deposit, start in Kraken’s add-money flow and send EUR from your own named bank account using the exact instructions shown. For a withdrawal, use Transfer > Withdraw, select EUR, choose an available cash method and send only to your own bank account. Ordinary SEPA is the predictable choice when instant support is unavailable; SEPA Instant is the faster choice when every participating bank and processor supports it. In both directions, the live method screen, not a remembered fee or old IBAN, is the source to follow.
