Use Huawei Phone Clone to move supported data wirelessly from your old phone to a new Huawei. What transfers depends on the source: Huawei phones have the broadest listed coverage, other Android phones can send selected personal data and apps but not their associated app data, and iPhones have a narrower set of supported categories. Check the selection screen and move chat histories or other important app data separately when needed.
What Phone Clone moves depends on your old phone
Phone Clone is Huawei’s first-party migration tool. It connects the old phone directly to the new Huawei so you can select the data categories offered for your devices. It is not a promise to reproduce every file, account, setting, or app state. In particular, an app appearing in the transfer selection does not necessarily mean its private data, login session, or cloud-only content will come with it.
Huawei’s documented categories differ by source platform. Treat the table as a guide to what may be available, then rely on the categories and counts shown during your own transfer. System and app versions can change what is offered.

These are Huawei’s published categories, not a guarantee that every item on every model will transfer. Its global data reference lists Huawei phones and tablets running Android 7.0, EMUI 5.0, or Magic UI 4.0 and later, and iPhones running iOS 12 or later. Huawei cautions that earlier versions can have compatibility issues. Choosing the right expectations for your source phone
If you are moving from a Samsung or another Android phone, choose Other Android on the Huawei. You can transfer the categories Huawei lists for Android, including applications, but do not count on each app’s locally stored records or settings being included. App availability and compatibility can differ, so an application may not be offered or may need to be installed or set up again on the new phone.
A Huawei-to-Huawei move has the broadest published scope, but “some app and system data” is deliberately not the same as a complete copy of all apps. Certain items are excluded even in this path, and some received app or settings data may be overwritten. If the new device already has content you value, make a separate copy and inspect the selection before proceeding.
For an iPhone or iPad, plan around the narrower documented list: contacts, calendar events, and photos or videos captured with the built-in camera. The listed media scope does not promise transfer of cloud-only photos and videos, third-party app content, or all other phone data. Use each app’s own migration or account restore options for anything outside those categories.
Prepare both phones before transferring
A little preparation reduces the chance of discovering after setup that a critical record stayed behind. Keep the old phone available and do not erase or trade it in until you have checked the new one and completed any app-specific migration.
- Charge both phones and keep them close and available for the transfer. These are practical precautions; Huawei does not publish a required battery percentage.
- Check that the new Huawei has enough free storage for the categories you intend to select. The amount required depends on the data on your old device.
- On the new Huawei, look for Phone Clone in the app list or open Settings > System & updates > Phone Clone. Menu labels may differ with the system version.
- Keep access to the old phone and its apps. Some information, such as chat histories, may need to be migrated from inside the original app rather than through Phone Clone.
- Plan to review the selection list before starting. Do not assume that an item is included just because it exists on the old phone.
Huawei says supported operating-system versions can vary. If Phone Clone is not already available on the old device, follow the new phone’s prompt to install it, and confirm availability in the relevant app store or Huawei’s device-specific support information. It also helps to think through what “everything” means before you begin. There are several distinct things people often group together: personal files such as photos and documents, phone records such as contacts and call logs, installed apps, and the data stored inside each app. Phone Clone may offer one of those categories without offering the others. For example, an app can be listed as transferable while its chat history or account state needs its own process. Make a short list of essential items—especially chats, financial records, health information, and media you cannot replace—and verify each one on the destination phone before letting go of the source.

Transfer data with Phone Clone
- Start on the new Huawei. Open Phone Clone, either from the app list or through Settings > System & updates > Phone Clone. Choose This is the new device, then select the old phone’s type: Huawei, Other Android, or iPhone/iPad.
- Set up the old phone. Open Phone Clone on it, or install the app if prompted, and choose the option identifying it as the old device. Follow the on-screen prompts.
- Connect the phones. Scan the code displayed on the new Huawei, or choose the manual connection method offered on screen. Huawei describes this as a direct wireless connection; a cable is not part of the documented Phone Clone workflow.
- Review the available items. On the old phone, inspect the categories and counts shown. Select only the data you want to move, taking care to distinguish an app from its associated data.
- Start the transfer and wait for completion. Keep both phones available until the completion prompt appears. Avoid interrupting the connection while the transfer is running.
- Check the new phone. Open the relevant contacts, photos, documents, and apps to confirm that the items you need are present. For unsupported or missing app information, use the app’s own migration or sign-in process.
The selection screen is the practical checkpoint between Huawei’s general compatibility list and your particular devices. Check both the category names and the item counts before you start; that is the opportunity to spot a missing class of data or avoid selecting content that could replace something already on the new phone. If the screen offers less than expected, do not treat an unlisted item as queued in the background. The source type, phone and software compatibility, and the item itself can all affect availability.
Huawei says the Phone Clone connection is private and encrypted, and that it does not require WLAN or mobile data. Those are Huawei’s descriptions of its tool, not an independent security assessment. The same page advertises transfer speeds of “up to 8 GB per minute”; Huawei does not state a publication year there, and this is a vendor maximum claim rather than a typical-speed guarantee. Move chat history and other app data separately
Phone Clone’s app transfer and an app’s private data are different things. Huawei says associated app data is excluded when the source is another Android phone, and its iPhone transfer list does not include other apps or their data. Even on Huawei-to-Huawei moves, only some app data is listed as supported, and behavior can depend on the app and system versions.
For data that matters, check the original app for an in-app migration, export, or backup option before you retire the old phone. Huawei specifically gives WeChat chat history as an example. Its guidance points to Me > Settings > General > Chat History Migration & Backup. The exact wording or location may differ by current app version or region, so follow the options shown in your installation. This is an app-specific step, not a guarantee that Phone Clone itself copies WeChat history.
Other account-based apps may require signing in again or following the app provider’s own restore procedure. A transferred app icon alone does not establish that account credentials, locally stored records, or authentication setup has moved.
For any app that matters, check its transfer options while both phones still work. This is particularly important when the data is only stored locally on the old device or when the app has its own migration feature. Follow the app’s current prompts and confirm the records appear on the Huawei before deleting anything from the source. Phone Clone’s category list cannot tell you whether a separate app-level procedure is complete.

Know what may be excluded or overwritten
Huawei’s compatibility reference identifies several items that may not transfer through Phone Clone. Check for these directly on the old phone or within the relevant app before switching:
- Contacts stored on a SIM card and protected verification SMS messages.
- Photos and videos stored only in the cloud rather than locally on the phone.
- Financial-app data, cache, and data from incompatible apps.
- Douyin app data, lock-screen passwords and fingerprints, Huawei Pay bank or access cards, and Health app data.
These exclusions are a reason to handle sensitive or important records deliberately rather than relying on a general “transfer complete” message. SIM-stored contacts, for example, are different from contacts available as a phone category; cloud-only media is different from a local photo or video file. Financial app data and Huawei Pay cards are not reproduced through this process, while protected verification messages, biometric and lock-screen credentials, and Health data are among the stated limitations. Use the relevant app or service’s own options where available, and verify that the information you need can be accessed on the new phone.
Cloning may also overwrite existing data in certain apps or settings on the receiving phone. Huawei names WeChat, Clock, Weather, and home-screen settings as examples, while noting that some categories are added rather than overwritten. The exact behavior depends on app and system versions. If the new phone already contains data you need, review the selection before starting and preserve a separate copy where possible. If something is missing after the transfer
An app transferred, but its data did not
That can be expected, especially when moving from another Android phone: Huawei excludes associated app data from that source’s listed transfer scope. Check the app for its own migration or restore process, then sign in and confirm that its records are available. For messaging history, use the app-specific procedure before wiping or giving away the old phone.
Photos or videos are absent
First check whether they were stored only in a cloud account; Huawei lists cloud-only photos and videos among excluded items. Confirm that the old phone can still display or download the originals, then use the relevant cloud service’s own restore or download method. Also check that the media category was selected in Phone Clone.
A category or app is not offered
Available selections depend on the source platform, device and software compatibility, and the content itself. Confirm that you selected the correct old-device type, check the devices’ software and Phone Clone versions, and consult Huawei’s device-specific instructions if the app cannot be installed. Do not assume that a category absent from the selection screen has been copied.

The transfer is incomplete or the connection stops
Keep both phones powered and close together, reopen Phone Clone if needed, and follow the connection prompt again. Check free space on the new phone and use the displayed completion status rather than assuming the transfer finished. If the problem persists, consult Huawei’s support page for the models and software versions involved; menu labels and compatibility can vary.

It may be a local file that was not selected, cloud-only content, or information held inside an app rather than a general phone category. That distinction determines the next step: select the appropriate offered category if available, use the cloud provider’s restore or download option for cloud content, or follow the app’s own migration or sign-in procedure for app-held records.

Huawei also lists Huawei Share, cloud backup, HiSuite, and external storage among its backup approaches. These are alternatives for backing up or moving selected content, not interchangeable guarantees that installed apps and private app data will be reproduced. Choose one based on what is missing and what the relevant feature supports; check the instructions for your device before relying on it for a complete migration.
For example, external storage can serve as a separate place to keep files, but copying files to storage does not itself install apps or recreate their private data. A backup can be useful as an additional safeguard, but it should not be assumed to have the same categories or behavior as Phone Clone. Huawei’s backup overview describes the available approaches at Backing up your phone/tablet. Use Phone Clone for the supported device-to-device categories, and the original app’s procedure for app-specific records.
There is no need to buy a cable for the documented Phone Clone route: Huawei describes it as a direct wireless transfer that does not require WLAN or mobile data. A separate storage device may be useful for keeping a copy of files, but it does not automatically reproduce installed apps or associated app data. In other words, choose an alternative to solve a specific backup or file-transfer need, not as a promise that it will clone the whole phone.
Before you erase or give away the old phone
Use a short verification pass while the source phone is still available. This catches the most consequential gaps before recovery becomes difficult.

- Check that key contacts and calendar events appear on the new Huawei.
- Open important photos, videos, documents, and other transferred files rather than relying only on a completed-transfer message.
- Open critical apps, sign in as needed, and confirm that the records you care about are present.
- Complete separate chat-history or app-level migrations and make sure they succeeded.
- Review items excluded by Huawei’s list, including SIM-stored contacts, cloud-only media, financial data, health records, and payment cards.
Once those checks are complete and any app-specific recovery steps are finished, you can decide whether to reset the old phone. Keeping it intact until then is the safest way to preserve a fallback for data that Phone Clone does not cover.
