Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To move a Windows/Steam Palworld co-op world, make two backups of the complete world folder, copy it into the dedicated server’s Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ directory, set DedicatedServerName to the copied folder’s exact name, and repair the former host’s player identity before inviting everyone back. Game Pass saves require WGS extraction first, while worlds hosted directly on Xbox or PlayStation cannot be copied manually from the console.
What actually moves during a Palworld migration
Palworld does not provide an in-game “export to dedicated server” button. The migration is a file-copy and configuration operation. A world is made up of more than one file: its terrain and world state, metadata, player records, and companion data all need to travel together.

Copying only Level.sav can produce a world that starts but does not preserve the complete player experience. Always move the entire world folder.

Exact save formats, identity behavior, cross-play support, and converter compatibility can change with Palworld updates. Keep an untouched rollback copy and confirm that the dedicated server and clients run compatible versions.

Prepare before touching the save
Finish one final co-op session
Load the world normally, allow the game to save, and exit through the game’s normal quit path. Do not copy files while the co-op host is still running. An active process can leave the folder in an intermediate state.
Make two independent backups
- Copy the entire world folder to a first backup location.
- Copy the same folder to a second, separate location or drive.
- Do not perform conversion, identity repair, or file deletion on either original backup.
- Keep the backups until the former host and at least one guest have joined the dedicated server and all validation checks pass.
Check the server environment
- Use a machine or hosting plan that permits uploading a complete save folder.
- Confirm that you can edit the dedicated server’s configuration, including
DedicatedServerName. - Plan for a server version compatible with the co-op clients and the save.
- If you are using a managed host, verify that it supports downloadable backups; a snapshot you cannot retrieve is not a complete rollback plan.
Find the Windows/Steam co-op world
The usual Steam save location is:

<SteamID64> is the account-specific directory. Inside it, each world has its own folder. The folder name is the value that the dedicated server must later use for DedicatedServerName.

Identify the correct folder
- Open the Steam save path after exiting Palworld.
- Compare the modification times of the folders and their
Level.savfiles. The world you just played should have the latest relevant timestamp. - Use the in-game world name as a second check when more than one folder appears current.
- Open the candidate folder and confirm that it contains
Level.sav,LevelMeta.sav, and aPlayersdirectory.
Do not rename the folder during this identification step. The exact existing name is needed for the server setting.

Move a Steam/Windows world step by step
- Create the rollback copies. Load the co-op world once, let it save, exit Palworld, and copy the complete world folder to two separate backup locations. Work only on a third copy.
- Start the dedicated server once. Launch it long enough to create its default directory tree, then stop it cleanly. Replacing files while the server is running can cause it to overwrite or ignore the imported data.
- Open the server save directory. Locate the server’s
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/directory. The exact parent path depends on how the server was installed, but the final directory names should bePal,Saved,SaveGames, and0. - Copy the whole world folder. Place the copied folder directly inside
Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/. The result should look likePal/Saved/SaveGames/0/<world-folder>/Level.sav, withLevelMeta.sav,Players, and the other companion files beside it. - Set the world name in server settings. Set
DedicatedServerName=<world-folder-name>. Replace the value with the folder name exactly, including capitalization, underscores, hyphens, or numbers. Do not enter the display name shown in the game unless it is identical to the folder name. - Choose which world settings should win. If the dedicated server’s configuration should replace the old co-op settings, first back up the imported
WorldOption.sav, then removeWorldOption.savfrom the working copy. If you want to preserve the co-op settings, leave it in place. Never delete the only copy. - Repair the former host’s identity. Co-op commonly records the host under a placeholder player identity. A dedicated server expects the account’s real identity, so copying the world without remapping can make the host see the character-creation screen even though the world, bases, Pals, and guest characters are present. Use a maintained save-fix or identity-remapping workflow suitable for the current game version.
- Start and test privately. Start the server and have the former host join before distributing the address widely. If the host’s existing character loads, invite one guest and begin the validation checklist.
Repair the co-op host character
The host is the special case in this migration. In a co-op session, the host’s character can be stored with a placeholder identity rather than the account identifier that a dedicated server associates with the joining player. The dedicated server therefore sees a new account, not the old character, unless the save is remapped.
Symptoms of an unmapped host
- The former host is sent to character creation.
- The world itself loads normally.
- Bases, Pals, map discoveries, and guest characters appear intact.
- The host’s old inventory, level, or guild relationship is missing.
Safe remediation sequence
- Stop the server and restore the working folder from your untouched backup if an attempted fix produced a worse result.
- Determine the account identity used by the former host on the dedicated-server platform.
- Use a current, trusted save-fix or identity-remapping tool or a documented manual procedure that supports the Palworld version you are running.
- Remap only the host’s placeholder player record; avoid changing guest records that already load correctly.
- Start the server and test the host before making additional edits.
Save-fix utilities are version-sensitive. Check their maintenance date, release notes, licensing, and security before opening a production save. Do not operate on the only copy, and do not assume that a utility that worked for an earlier Palworld release remains compatible.
Move a PC Game Pass or Xbox-app save
PC Game Pass/Xbox-app saves are stored in the Windows Gaming Services (WGS) area rather than the normal Steam-style world directory:

The WGS data is a container, not a ready-to-upload dedicated-server world folder. Copying it directly to Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ will not give the server the normal .sav files it expects.
Conversion workflow
- Close Palworld and the Xbox app, then make two backups of the WGS data.
- Use a maintained converter or extractor that supports the current Palworld save format.
- Extract the container into a normal world folder containing
Level.sav,LevelMeta.sav,Players, and the other companion files. - Inspect the converted folder before uploading it. If the expected files are missing, stop and resolve the conversion issue rather than testing the incomplete folder on the server.
- Follow the Steam migration steps: copy the complete folder, set
DedicatedServerName, decide how to handleWorldOption.sav, and perform host-identity repair where required.
Converter maintenance changes faster than the underlying migration pattern. Check the tool’s release notes and compatibility claims for your Palworld version immediately before use. Treat conversion as a separate risk from server setup and retain the original WGS backup throughout testing.

Console-hosted worlds and Xbox connections
World hosted directly on Xbox or PlayStation
A console-hosted world is not exposed through a normal file system that you can browse and copy manually. The procedure in this guide therefore cannot extract that save directly. You need a supported PC-readable export or must move the world to a PC-hosted environment before attempting a file migration.
Console players joining a PC dedicated server
A PC-hosted world is different: the readable save remains on the PC host, even when console players joined it. After migration, confirm that the server configuration and game editions support the cross-platform combination your group intends to use.
The Palworld official documentation states: “On Xbox, you cannot connect by entering an IP address.” When that configuration applies, Xbox players must use the community-server list rather than typing the server address directly.

Validate the imported world before retiring co-op
Do not judge a migration solely by whether the server starts. Test the data that matters to the players.

Test with the former host and one guest first. Keep both backups until these checks pass in more than one session.
Troubleshooting common migration failures

Choosing self-hosting versus a managed server
The save procedure is the same in principle, but the operational risks differ. Evaluate the host before uploading your only working copy.

A managed service is useful only if it permits the save operations this migration requires. A low-cost plan that cannot upload the complete folder, preserve backups, or run a compatible version can create more work than self-hosting.
Version changes and rollback discipline
Palworld updates can change save formats, player-identity behavior, server settings, and cross-play support. Before updating either the game or the server:

- Record the server and client versions.
- Update the server separately from the archived backup.
- Test the former host and one guest after the update.
- If the world fails to load or identity data changes, stop the server and return to the last known-good folder.
Keep the original co-op save until the dedicated server has been stable and all players have confirmed their characters, bases, Pals, guild data, progression, and settings. Once that acceptance check is complete, archive the old copy rather than deleting it immediately.
