The safe way to mount a 100-inch TV starts with the exact television model, not the 100-inch diagonal printed on a product page. Record the TV’s weight without its stand and its VESA mounting-hole pattern from the manufacturer’s manual or specification sheet. Then match both figures to a mount’s published load limit and supported VESA patterns, and confirm that the mount is approved for your wall construction and fasteners.
A 100-inch rating by itself does not prove that a mount fits or that your wall can carry the installation. The steps below show how to check compatibility, select a fixed, tilting or articulating design, prepare the wall, install it with the correct hardware and decide when qualified professional help is the safer choice.
What actually makes a 100-inch TV mount compatible
Compatibility is a match between four specific items: the television’s weight without its stand, its VESA hole pattern, the mount’s load and pattern limits, and the wall attachment method. Screen diagonal is only a secondary check. Two televisions with the same 100-inch diagonal can have different weights, hole spacing and screw requirements.
TV weight without the stand
Use the weight listed for the display alone, not the shipping weight and not the television plus its tabletop stand. A mount’s maximum load applies to the equipment attached to it. Write down the value and its units exactly as the TV documentation gives them. If the documentation lists more than one configuration, use the heaviest configuration that will actually be mounted.

VESA mounting pattern
VESA is the horizontal-by-vertical distance between the four threaded mounting holes on the rear of the TV, expressed in millimetres. A pattern such as 800 × 600 means the holes are 800 mm apart horizontally and 600 mm vertically. Measure only if the manufacturer’s specification does not provide the pattern, and measure centre-to-centre between holes rather than from an outside edge.
Mount limits and wall approval
Compare the TV’s weight with the mount’s maximum load and compare its VESA pattern with the mount’s supported range or list of patterns. Then check the wall types named in the mount manual. A mount that fits the TV can still be unsuitable for a particular wall if its approved anchors or attachment points cannot be used there.
Gather the exact information before shopping
- Find the model number. Read the label on the rear of the television, the original documentation or the television’s settings menu. Record the complete model code, including regional suffixes.
- Open the manufacturer’s manual or specification sheet. Locate the display-only weight, VESA pattern, recommended screw size and required screw length or spacer arrangement.
- Check the rear of the TV. Confirm that all four mounting holes are accessible and note whether the back is recessed or irregular. A recessed back may require the spacers specified by the TV or mount manual.
- Record the room and wall constraints. Identify whether the wall is wood-stud framing, brick, concrete or another construction. Note electrical outlets, cable routes, doors, windows and the space needed to lift a very large panel.
- Keep the documents together. The TV manual and the chosen mount manual govern screw selection, spacers, anchor types, drilling depth, orientation and tightening procedure. Do not substitute generic wall plugs or a screw supplied with another product.
QualGear’s installation guidance specifically says to confirm equipment weight and mounting pattern in the TV manual and notes that screen size alone does not determine fit. That principle applies even when a mount listing prominently says 100 inches.

Before buying, make a small compatibility record containing the TV model, display-only weight, VESA pattern, mount load limit, supported patterns, permitted wall types, required fasteners and the mount’s installed depth. A listing that supplies only a screen-size range is incomplete for a safe decision.
| Specification | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum load | It must meet or exceed the TV’s display-only weight. | Exceeding the published limit can overload the bracket and its wall attachment. |
| VESA range or list | The TV’s exact horizontal × vertical pattern must be included. | A 100-inch screen can use a pattern larger than the mount supports. |
| Wall type | The manual must allow your actual wall construction. | Stud, brick and concrete require different attachment methods. |
| Fasteners and screw length | Use the sizes, grades, anchors and spacers specified for this TV and mount combination. | Incorrect hardware can bottom out, fail to engage threads or damage the panel. |
| Clearance and movement | Check wall profile, tilt range, swivel or extension and the room needed to operate them. | A movement mechanism may need more space behind or beside the TV than a fixed bracket. |
| Installation procedure | Read the complete manual, including wall-specific diagrams. | Marking, levelling, drilling and tightening details are product-specific. |
Wall assessment: studs, masonry and unknown construction
Wood-stud walls
Locate the centre of every stud that the mount manual requires. Mark the centres, transfer the mount’s horizontal reference line with a level and verify that the proposed holes land in structural wood rather than only in drywall. The mount manual determines how many studs and which holes are acceptable.
Brick or concrete
Use only the masonry procedure and anchors specified by the mount manufacturer for the actual substrate. Brick type, mortar condition, hollow sections and concrete thickness can change what is acceptable. Do not copy a stud-wall screw layout or an anchor from a different product.
Drywall without confirmed structure
Do not treat drywall alone as a structural attachment for a 100-inch display unless the chosen mount’s manual explicitly provides an approved method for that construction. If you cannot identify studs, blocking or suitable masonry, stop before drilling and obtain an assessment from a qualified installer.

The LG OSW100 manual illustrates why these details cannot be generalized: it directs the installer to find and mark wood-stud centres, level the marks, drill to a specified depth and avoid overtightening because drywall can be damaged. It also has a separate masonry procedure. Those measurements and anchors belong to that manual, not to every 100-inch television or mount.
Eaton specifies that its DWM60100XX is intended for wood stud, brick or concrete walls, but that statement still requires following the product’s own attachment instructions. Local building requirements, concealed utilities and the condition of the wall may impose additional constraints.
Choose fixed, tilting or full-motion mounting
Select movement based on the viewing position only after the weight, VESA, wall and hardware checks pass. Movement does not compensate for an incompatible pattern or an inadequate wall.
Fixed mount
A fixed bracket keeps the panel closest to the wall and usually has the smallest visual profile. It is suitable when the primary viewing position is directly in front of the screen and the wall is already planned for the final height. It offers little or no angle adjustment, so check glare, seating height and cable access before fastening.

Tilting mount
A tilting design can angle the screen downward or upward to improve the view from a higher or lower seat. Confirm the tilt range and the clearance needed to make adjustments. The TV must remain within the mount’s load and VESA limits in the same way as a fixed installation.
Full-motion or articulating mount
A full-motion mount can extend, swivel and level the screen. It is useful when viewers sit in more than one position, but extension changes the working space behind the panel and makes cable routing and final levelling more demanding. Follow the manufacturer’s limits for extension and movement, and secure the display before operating the mechanism.

Step-by-step installation sequence
1. Plan the position and work area
Choose the viewing height and centreline, then check that the proposed position leaves room for the mount’s movement, ventilation openings, cables and power connection. Clear furniture and fragile objects from the lifting path. A 100-inch panel is wide and difficult to control, so plan where it will rest while the bracket is attached.

2. Confirm the wall structure
Use an appropriate stud-finding method and expose enough information to identify the structural attachment points required by the mount manual. For masonry, identify the actual material and inspect for cracks or damage. Check for electrical, plumbing and other concealed services before drilling; if their location is uncertain, use a qualified professional.
3. Lay out and level the bracket
Hold the wall plate at the planned height, mark the permitted holes and use a level to set the reference line. Do not assume that a hole that looks convenient is approved. The LG OSW100 instructions, for example, call for marking stud centres and levelling before drilling; follow the equivalent sequence in your own mount manual.
4. Drill to the specified depth
Use the bit type and diameter stated for the wall and fasteners. Drill only to the manual’s depth and clean the holes as directed. Masonry and stud procedures are different, so never use the masonry anchor instructions on a stud wall or vice versa.
5. Install the wall plate with the specified fasteners
Insert the approved screws, washers and anchors in the order shown. Tighten evenly until the plate is secure; do not add extra hardware or substitute a longer screw. LG warns that overtightening can damage drywall. If the plate does not sit flat, the hole alignment is wrong or the fastener will not engage the structure, stop and correct the cause rather than forcing it.

Lay the display on a clean, stable, padded surface only if the television manual permits that position. Select the correct screw length and spacers for the rear recess, and start every screw by hand to avoid cross-threading. Tighten to the manual’s instruction without crushing the rear cover or forcing a screw to bottom out.
7. Lift and hang the display with at least two people
LG’s OSW100 manual states: “Always install the display with 2 or more people.” Use two or more capable adults for the lift, and add help if the installation instructions or the panel’s size require it. Keep hands clear of pinch points, lift from approved areas and do not attempt to hang the screen while balancing it on furniture.

8. Engage the safety locks and level the screen
Seat the TV on the wall plate exactly as shown in the mount manual, engage every retaining latch or safety screw and confirm that the brackets are fully captured. Make final levelling adjustments using the mount’s adjustment points, not by twisting the television or loosening structural fasteners.
9. Connect cables without loading the mount
Route power, signal and network cables with enough slack for the mount’s permitted movement. Avoid tight bends that pull on the connectors or force a full-motion arm away from its neutral position. Keep cables clear of hinges and locking hardware.

10. Perform a controlled final check
Before placing furniture below the screen, inspect every visible fastener, lock and bracket. Apply only the movement allowed by the manual and watch for contact between the panel, wall and cables. If you hear cracking, see drywall movement or feel looseness, stop using the mount and obtain a qualified inspection.
Safety checks after installation
- The mount plate is level and sits flush against the wall where the manual requires.
- All required attachment points are in confirmed studs or approved masonry anchors.
- The TV’s brackets are fully seated and every safety lock is engaged.
- No screw head is stripped, no anchor spins and no fastener is visibly pulling out.
- The display does not shift independently when touched lightly at its edges.
- Cables have slack and do not interfere with tilt, swivel, extension or locking parts.
- The installed position leaves ventilation openings clear and does not press the panel against the wall.
- The mount’s load and VESA limits, wall type and hardware match the records made before installation.
Sony’s wall-mount FAQ strongly recommends qualified professional installation and says the selected wall should be able to hold four times the TV’s weight. That is Sony’s stated guidance, not a universal building-code rule; local requirements and the mount manual still govern your project.

The mount is rated for 100 inches but the holes do not line up
Stop. Check the TV’s documented VESA pattern and the mount’s complete pattern list. If the pattern is outside the mount’s range, return or replace the mount with one that explicitly supports it. Do not drill new holes in the mount or use only two of the four TV holes unless the manufacturer expressly permits that configuration.
The TV weight is close to or above the load limit
Use the display-only weight from the TV documentation and compare it with the mount’s published maximum. If the TV exceeds the limit, do not install it. If the listing does not clearly state a load limit, choose a mount with complete published specifications rather than relying on a screen-size label.

The TV sits crooked after hanging
First verify that the wall plate is level and that both TV brackets are fully seated. Use the mount’s built-in levelling adjustment if provided. Do not compensate by loosening the structural attachment or twisting the panel.
A screw will not tighten or the rear cover bows
Remove the screw and verify its diameter, length and spacer arrangement against the TV and mount manuals. A screw that bottoms out can damage the television; a screw that is too short may not engage enough thread. Replace it with the specified hardware rather than forcing it.
The arm is difficult to move or the wall creaks
Stop moving the mount and inspect the locks, fasteners and wall surface. A full-motion mechanism may need adjustment, but visible wall movement or cracking indicates a structural problem that requires professional assessment before further use.
When professional installation is the safer choice
Arrange qualified help when you cannot confidently identify the wall construction, locate the required studs or blocking, select the specified fasteners, or safely lift and control the display. Professional installation is also prudent when the wall is damaged, the mount is articulating and extends far from the wall, the TV manual requires specialized handling, or local rules require a licensed trade.
LG directs readers who do not understand its mounting instructions to contact a dealer for a specialized installer. Sony recommends qualified professionals for wall installation. These recommendations are especially relevant to a 100-inch display because its size limits working space and makes a failed lift or incomplete attachment more consequential.
A practical buying checklist
- Have the exact TV model number, display-only weight and VESA pattern in writing.
- Choose a mount whose published load limit meets the TV weight and whose VESA list includes the exact pattern.
- Confirm the mount is approved for the actual wall: wood stud, brick, concrete or another named construction.
- Read the mount manual before purchase so its fasteners, spacers, drilling layout and clearance work in your room.
- Select fixed, tilt or full-motion movement according to viewing needs, not because the product advertises a larger screen range.
- Check the mount’s installed depth, extension and cable clearance against outlets, furniture and room circulation.
- Plan a two-person lift at minimum, following the TV and mount instructions.
- Stop and obtain qualified help if any model, wall or fastener detail remains uncertain.
Worked compatibility decision
Suppose a TV manual identifies a 100-inch display with a 900 × 600 mm VESA pattern and a display-only weight below a candidate mount’s published limit. The mount still passes only after its manual confirms that the pattern is supported, its wall procedure matches the room’s studs or masonry, and its specified screws and spacers fit the TV’s threaded holes. If any one of those checks fails, the candidate is not a safe match.
Conversely, a lighter 100-inch TV with an 800 × 500 mm pattern may fit a mount that supports up to 800 × 500 mm, while a heavier or differently drilled model may not. The diagonal describes the screen; the model-specific numbers determine the installation.
Final decision rule
Buy and install a 100-inch TV mount only when the exact TV weight, VESA pattern, wall construction, fasteners and mount manual all agree. Use the manufacturer’s instructions for every mark, hole, anchor, screw, spacer and lock; use at least two people for the lift; and choose qualified professional installation whenever the wall, hardware or handling cannot be verified with confidence.
