There is no single best ChatGPT mention tracker for every team. The right choice depends on which AI engines you need, whether your prompts represent real buying questions, how often you need fresh observations, and whether you care about mentions, citations, sentiment, competitive position, or referral traffic. The nine tools below monitor AI answers generated from defined prompts; they do not reveal every private conversation users have with an LLM.
What a brand-mention tracker actually measures
A prompt-based tracker stores a question set, sends those questions to one or more AI systems, and records the resulting answers. Typical records include whether your brand appeared, the wording used to describe it, which competitors appeared, and which web pages the answer cited. You can then compare results by model, market, prompt category, date, or competitor.
That is different from measuring AI crawler activity in your server logs or counting visits referred by an AI service. Crawler reports tell you that an automated agent requested a page. Referral analytics tell you that a user clicked through. A mention tracker tells you what an AI answer said when it was asked a particular question. A complete measurement program may use all three, but they answer different questions.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAI answers can change between runs even when the prompt is identical. Treat one observation as a snapshot, not a dependable trend. Use repeated runs on a fixed schedule, preserve the prompt and model conditions, and annotate major changes such as a model update, country setting, or new product page.

The metrics you will see
| Metric | What it answers | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Mentions | Did the answer name the brand, product, or domain? | That the mention was favorable or that the reader will buy. |
| Citations | Which pages or sources did the answer cite? | That the cited page caused the mention or received a click. |
| Position | Where did the brand appear in a list or recommendation? | That the ordering is stable across users or sessions. |
| Sentiment | Was the description classified as positive, neutral, or negative? | That an automated label captures every nuance of the answer. |
| Share of voice | How often did your brand appear relative to tracked competitors? | Your share of all AI conversations; the denominator is your prompt set. |
| Impressions or prompt volume | How much potential demand is associated with a tracked question or index? | Actual users or guaranteed traffic. |
| Referral traffic | Did users arrive from an AI service in your analytics? | What the AI said to users who did not click. |
How to compare the nine options
- Engine coverage: Check the exact answer engines, model versions, countries, languages, and search surfaces included. “AI visibility” is not a guarantee that every chatbot or AI-search mode is covered.
- Prompt methodology: Search-derived indexes provide broad discovery quickly. Custom prompts let you test the questions your customers actually ask. They are complementary, not interchangeable.
- Cadence and history: Confirm whether refreshes are monthly, weekly, daily, or manually triggered; ask how long raw answers and historical comparisons are retained.
- Measurement depth: Decide whether you need only mentions or also citations, position, sentiment, share of voice, impressions, competitor comparisons, and exports.
- Segmentation: Look for filters by model, country, language, persona, funnel stage, product line, and prompt tag.
- Workflow: Evaluate scheduled reports, alerts, API or export access, user permissions, and integrations with your existing SEO or analytics stack.
- Commercial terms: Compare the number of brands, projects, prompts, checks, seats, and historical data—not just the headline monthly price.
Scrunch’s evaluation guidance also recommends cross-LLM coverage, prompt-level tracking, citation and source mapping, competitive benchmarking, and crawler or bot observability. Bot observability is useful when you need to understand whether AI crawlers can reach your site, but it is a separate capability from monitoring answer-level mentions.
1. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Best fit: broad discovery plus custom questions
Ahrefs documents two complementary approaches. Brand Radar checks a large, search-backed prompt index and also supports configurable prompts. Its current help documentation, accessed in 2026, describes more than 405 million search-backed prompts across seven AI platforms, historical responses from 2025, brand and competitor comparisons, citations, mentions, share of voice, and impressions. Ahrefs has displayed a different 475-million figure on a separate product page; because the figures may reflect different page versions or coverage definitions, use the help-documentation figure only with that qualification.
The index is useful when you want to discover questions at scale without writing every prompt yourself. Custom prompts are better for product-specific buying questions, regulated claims, regional wording, or a persona that a generic keyword index may miss. Ahrefs describes its collection method as follows: “Ahrefs extracts People Also Ask questions from keyword queries in its keyword index, then enters those questions into the web version of each AI chatbot using the default model.”
For cadence, Ahrefs’ update table says AI chatbot indexes refresh “Once a month.” Custom prompts can be scheduled from monthly to daily, so the two data sets should not be interpreted as having the same freshness.
The help documentation lists single-platform access at $199 per month per index and access to all platforms at $699 per month. It lists custom-prompt tiers of $50, $100, and $250 per month, each with a different included number of checks. These are USD vendor list prices, may vary by region, and can change; confirm the current package, platform availability, and check allowances before buying.
- Choose it when: you want an established SEO data set for discovery and a separate prompt program for strategic questions.
- Validate first: the engines available in your region, the exact limits in each custom tier, and whether the historical depth meets your reporting requirements.
2. Peec AI
Best fit: segmentation and brand perception
Peec AI describes tracking for visibility, position, and sentiment, with filters by model, country, and prompt tags such as persona or funnel stage. That makes it a natural candidate for teams that need to answer questions like “How is our brand described to buyers in Germany?” or “Do enterprise prompts produce a different perception from consumer prompts?”
Its segmentation model is more important than a single visibility score. Tag prompts by market, persona, product, and funnel stage before collecting a baseline. Otherwise, a change in the mix of questions can look like a change in brand perception. Confirm the current supported engines, retention period, export options, seat limits, and pricing on the vendor’s current documentation; no price is established here.
Rank #2
- Choose it when: regional and persona-level comparisons matter as much as the aggregate score.
- Validate first: how sentiment is labeled, whether you can inspect the underlying answer, and how model or country filters are implemented.
3. Profound
Best fit: answer-engine visibility and citation analytics
Profound presents a broader AI-marketing and citation-analytics workflow. Its official site describes answer-engine visibility, sources cited across answers, and prompt-volume insights. This combination is useful when the goal is not merely to count mentions but to understand which pages are supplying evidence to AI answers and how much apparent demand surrounds a prompt.
Use its customer outcome statements as vendor-reported case-study claims, not as independent benchmarks. During procurement, ask for a sample export showing the original prompt, model and market conditions, full answer text, cited URLs, competitor fields, and the calculation behind any visibility or volume score. Confirm current engine coverage, historical retention, alerting, and pricing before treating it as a production standard.
- Choose it when: content, SEO, and brand teams need citation-source analysis in the same workflow as visibility reporting.
- Validate first: whether prompt-volume figures are estimates, observed counts, or modeled demand, and how source matching handles citations that are not clickable.
4. Otterly.AI
Best fit: a recurring subscription alternative to one-off checks
Otterly.AI appears in AuditAE’s June 2026 comparison of relevant AI-visibility tools. That comparison treats the category as recurring subscription products rather than only pay-per-check services. The official Otterly page was not available for verification in the material used here, so supported engines, prompt limits, refresh schedule, current price, exports, and program terms remain open checks.
Do not select it on the basis of a feature list copied from an older comparison. Request a live demonstration that shows answer-level records, citations, competitor comparisons, and the controls for rerunning a prompt. Ask whether a “check” means one prompt on one engine, one complete run across engines, or another unit; that definition determines the real cost.

- Validate first: every material product and commercial detail, because primary documentation was not confirmed.
5. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Best fit: teams already operating a Semrush-centered workflow
AuditAE’s comparison lists the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit as a candidate for monitoring AI visibility. The official product page did not return usable information in the available material, so current package limits, supported engines, retention, integrations, and pricing should not be assumed.
Existing Semrush users should test whether the toolkit can reuse current projects, keyword groupings, competitor lists, and reporting permissions. New buyers should compare the total cost of adding the module with a specialist tracker, including the number of tracked prompts and brands. Before signing, require written confirmation of which answers are sampled, how often they are refreshed, and whether raw answer text and cited sources are exportable.
- Choose it when: consolidating AI visibility with an established SEO operating system reduces duplicate work.
- Validate first: the live product scope and price; neither is established by the available documentation.
6. Waikay
Best fit: investigating inaccurate brand facts
Ahrefs’ 2026 roundup lists Waikay as a monitoring option focused on the accuracy of AI-generated facts and brand positioning. That makes it potentially relevant when a company is dealing with incorrect product specifications, outdated ownership information, or misleading descriptions in AI answers.
Rank #3
This is a discovery lead rather than verified current product documentation. Before relying on it, confirm which engines it queries, whether it stores the complete answer and source evidence, how it defines an inaccurate fact, and whether corrections can be tracked over time. A fact-accuracy workflow should also retain the authoritative page your team wants the model to discover, so reviewers can separate a genuinely wrong answer from a statement that is merely incomplete.
Recommended Free Tools
- Choose it when: factual correctness and brand positioning are the primary risks.
- Validate first: all feature, coverage, and price claims against current vendor material.
7. xofu
Best fit: bottom-of-funnel questions
Ahrefs’ roundup describes xofu as focusing on bottom-of-funnel prompts. That positioning suggests a useful angle for queries containing comparisons, alternatives, pricing, implementation, or “best tool” language—questions closer to a decision than to general education.
Because current coverage and pricing were not checked against vendor documentation, treat xofu as provisional. Build a pilot around your actual decision-stage questions and inspect whether each record includes the complete answer, competitors shown ahead of you, cited sources, location, model, and run date. A tracker that reports only a score will not tell a content team what to fix.
- Choose it when: commercial-intent prompts are more valuable than broad awareness monitoring.
- Validate first: supported engines, prompt volume, cadence, and whether bottom-of-funnel categories are configurable.
8. Morningscore ChatGPT Tracker
Best fit: a focused ChatGPT starting point
Ahrefs’ roundup lists a Morningscore ChatGPT Tracker with a free trial and a paid plan. Those terms may be stale, and the available material does not establish current limits or supported features. Consider it a single-engine starter candidate only after confirming that it still operates, which ChatGPT experience it queries, how many prompts and projects are included, and whether results can be exported.
A ChatGPT-only tracker can be adequate for a narrow hypothesis, such as monitoring a small set of product-comparison prompts. It is not a substitute for cross-engine coverage when your customers use several assistants or AI-search interfaces. Record the exact model or default setting used by the product, because “ChatGPT” can represent different models and interfaces over time.

- Choose it when: your immediate requirement is a small, low-complexity ChatGPT prompt set.
- Validate first: the current trial, paid-plan terms, model access, and data history.
9. RankScale
Best fit: an SMB-oriented AI SEO workflow
Ahrefs’ roundup characterizes RankScale as an SMB-oriented AI SEO toolkit. That makes it a possible fit for a smaller team that wants a lightweight way to organize prompts and compare visibility without adopting an enterprise analytics program.
The current product scope, engine list, prompt limits, retention, integrations, and price were not verified in the available material. Ask for a sample report and check whether it distinguishes an actual brand mention from a citation, whether competitors are measured on the same prompts, and whether you can rerun a prompt under the same conditions. If you need a free ChatGPT audit rather than a recurring toolkit, the same roundup mentions Mangools’ AI Search Grader as an alternative lead; verify its current availability and scope independently before choosing it.
- Choose it when: a small team values a simple AI-SEO workflow and does not need a large historical index.
- Validate first: every operational and commercial detail, which remains provisional.
Build a reliable monitoring program
1. Define the decision you are trying to change
Start with an outcome, not a dashboard. Examples include increasing the number of product-comparison answers that mention your brand, correcting a recurring factual error, improving the pages cited for a category, or learning why a competitor appears more often in a region. The outcome determines which metrics and prompts matter.
2. Create a balanced prompt set
Divide prompts into categories such as category discovery, problem education, comparisons, alternatives, implementation, pricing, and support. Include branded and unbranded wording, competitor names, local terminology, and the languages your customers use. Keep a stable “core” set for trend reporting and a separate experimental set for new questions.
3. Record the conditions with every run
- Prompt text and category.
- Engine, model or default model setting, and interface.
- Country, language, and personalization settings when available.
- Date and time, tracker version, and run or check identifier.
- Full answer, cited sources, competitors, position, and sentiment label.
Without these fields, a score change may reflect a different test rather than a change in visibility.
4. Establish a baseline and repeat it
Run the core set several times before declaring a baseline, then use the same cadence. Monthly index refreshes and daily custom checks answer different operational needs. If you are investigating a sudden change, rerun the exact prompt under the same conditions before changing content.
5. Review the answer, not just the score
For every important result, classify the wording: accurate, incomplete, outdated, misleading, or incorrect. Check whether the answer cited your site, a competitor, a third-party review, or no source. Then assign an owner—content, product, communications, technical SEO, or legal—and record the corrective action.
6. Compare competitors on identical prompts
Share of voice is meaningful only when brands are measured against the same prompt set and conditions. A competitor can gain share because your tracker added more questions favorable to that competitor, not because the competitor changed its market position. Keep the denominator stable and document additions or removals.
7. Connect answer data to outcomes carefully
Use web analytics to measure AI referrals separately. A rise in mentions does not automatically produce visits, and a citation does not prove that users clicked it. Join the data only after preserving the source definitions: prompt observation, citation, referral session, conversion, and time period.

Common failure modes and fixes
“Our score dropped overnight.”
First check whether the engine, model, region, prompt wording, or tracker methodology changed. Rerun the same prompt several times and inspect the raw answers. If only one run changed, record it as variance rather than rewriting your site immediately.
“The dashboard says we are visible, but leads did not increase.”
Inspect whether the metric is a mention, citation, estimated prompt volume, or referral. A brand can be named in an answer without earning a click. Add referral analytics and conversion tracking instead of treating visibility as revenue.
“The tool reports citations, but we cannot improve them.”
Export the cited URLs and classify them by page type and claim. Compare cited third-party pages with your own pages for completeness, freshness, structured facts, and consistent terminology. Prioritize pages that answer a tracked question directly; do not chase every citation indiscriminately.
“Different tools disagree.”
They may use different engines, default models, countries, prompt sets, refresh schedules, or definitions of a mention. Compare raw prompts and answers before comparing summary scores. A disagreement is not evidence that one tool is wrong until the measurement conditions match.
“We need to monitor every possible prompt.”
No product can observe every private conversation. Use a representative, maintained question set, expand it from customer research and site search data, and label exploratory prompts separately from trend prompts.

Procurement checklist
- Can the vendor show the complete answer behind every score?
- Are citations stored exactly as displayed, including source URLs and publication dates where available?
- Can you lock or reproduce engine, model, country, language, and prompt conditions?
- What is the unit of billing: prompt, check, engine, project, brand, or seat?
- How many prompts and reruns are included, and what happens after the allowance?
- How frequently are prebuilt indexes refreshed, and can custom prompts run on a separate schedule?
- How far back does historical data go, and can raw observations be exported?
- Which filters and competitor comparisons are available?
- What alerts, reports, APIs, integrations, and permissions are included?
- How does the vendor handle model updates, outages, duplicate answers, and deleted citations?
- Can the contract and data-retention terms support your privacy, legal, and regional requirements?
Bottom line
Choose the tracker that matches the question you need to answer. Ahrefs Brand Radar is the most fully documented option here for combining a broad search-backed discovery index with custom prompts. Peec AI is oriented toward segmented visibility and perception analysis, while Profound emphasizes answer-engine and citation analytics. Otterly.AI, Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, Waikay, xofu, Morningscore ChatGPT Tracker, and RankScale are reasonable candidates to investigate, but the available evidence does not establish their current limits, coverage, or prices. Whichever product you select, maintain a fixed prompt set, record model and market conditions, inspect raw answers and citations, and keep mention data separate from crawler logs and referral traffic.
