Use a scheduled page monitor that fetches the registration page, extracts only the event fields you care about, normalizes that content, hashes it, and compares the hash with the last successful run. When the hash changes, save an immutable, timestamped snapshot and a diff; when the request is blocked, redirected, unavailable, or cannot be parsed, record that as a separate state instead of treating an error page as an update. If the registration data is created by JavaScript, capture the rendered DOM with a headless browser.
What this monitor should—and should not—watch
A registration-page monitor observes HTTP responses or a browser-rendered DOM. It can detect a changed event date, venue, capacity, price, registration status, or link and preserve exactly what visitors saw at that time.
Solana RPC is a different layer. The official overview says, “Solana RPC provides methods to read network state, send transactions, simulate execution, and subscribe to live updates.” See Solana RPC documentation. RPC callbacks observe accounts, programs, logs, and slots on a cluster; they do not observe arbitrary HTML served by an event website. Keep the web monitor and any chain monitor separate so a provider outage does not erase page history.

Start with HTTP. Escalate only when a test shows that the fields you need are absent from the response. Record the acquisition method, browser version, and parser version in each manifest entry.

1. Define the monitored surface
Write a versioned configuration for every page. Include the canonical URL, the expected status, and an extraction rule for the title, date, venue, capacity, registration state, and registration link. A narrow, stable region produces fewer false alerts than hashing the whole document.
- Canonical URL: the page you intend to monitor, not a tracking URL.
- Expected status: normally HTTP 200; treat unexpected statuses as failures.
- Selector or parser: identify the registration card, table, or JSON block that contains meaningful fields.
- Noise rules: list scripts, navigation, analytics IDs, rotating tokens, and other values that change without changing the event.
- Meaningful fields: keep date, time zone, venue, capacity, price, registration state, and registration URL.
- Version: increment the parser or selector version whenever extraction logic changes.
Keep selector changes in source control. A zero-record result should be a parse error or alert, not an “unchanged” result.
2. Fetch politely and safely
Send a descriptive user agent, enforce a connection and read timeout, cap the response size, and use a small retry limit with exponential backoff. Add random jitter to scheduled jobs so multiple URLs do not hit one host simultaneously. Follow the site’s terms and robots guidance, and do not attempt to bypass authentication or CAPTCHA challenges.
Use intervals that match the event’s change rate: 5–15 minutes while registration is opening, hourly during an active event, and daily for a low-change page. These are operating guidelines, not published measurements of Solana event pages.
3. Canonicalize before hashing
Hash a deliberate representation, not raw bytes. Remove known noise, normalize whitespace, Unicode, line endings, and attribute ordering, and then hash the result with SHA-256. Never remove a field merely because it is inconvenient if a change in that field matters to registrants.

4. A complete Python HTTP monitor
The following script uses requests and beautifulsoup4. Set EVENT_URL and, when needed, EVENT_SELECTOR in the environment. It writes immutable HTML snapshots, unified diffs, and a JSON-lines manifest. It does not overwrite the last good snapshot when a request or parser fails.

raiseInstall the dependencies with python -m pip install requests beautifulsoup4. In production, add a maximum response-size check, bounded retries with jitter, secret handling for authenticated sessions, and a scheduler such as cron or your job runner.
5. Render JavaScript pages only when necessary
If the HTTP response contains a shell but no registration records, use a browser and wait for the exact selector. The example below requires Playwright and saves the post-render DOM; feed the selected region through the same normalization and hashing pipeline.

6. Compare, snapshot, and alert
- On the first successful run, save a baseline and its hash.
- On an identical canonical representation, record
unchangedwithout creating another full snapshot. - On a different hash, save a timestamped HTML or JSON snapshot, metadata, and a unified or structured diff. Keep earlier snapshots immutable.
- Send an alert containing the URL, retrieval time, old and new hashes, changed fields when available, and links to the snapshot and diff.
- Alert separately on repeated failures, redirects, blocks, HTTP errors, and a selector returning zero expected records.
Store at least the URL, final URL, HTTP status, retrieval time, hash, parser version, selector version, acquisition method, and failure state in the manifest. Never replace the last good snapshot with an error document.

Field-level extraction versus whole-region hashing

A practical design is to keep both: hash a canonical field object for alerts and save the selected HTML for human review.

Storage and retention choices

Retain enough history to answer when a date, venue, or status changed. Compress older raw pages if storage is constrained, but preserve the manifest and hashes.
Correlating a page change with Solana activity
Only add chain correlation when the web change must be explained by an on-chain action. Store the cluster, commitment level, slot, and transaction signature alongside the web snapshot. Use https://api.mainnet.solana.com for mainnet or https://api.devnet.solana.com for devnet when those endpoints are appropriate for your monitor.
Anchor documentation describes events as “typed, Borsh-serialized records included in a program’s IDL.” It also states that events are useful for indexing and notifications but are not program state; RPC providers may truncate program logs. See Anchor events documentation. For balances, permissions, registration counts, or other correctness-critical facts, derive state from accounts or instruction data rather than assuming a log event is complete.
Keep the page monitor functional when the chain monitor is unavailable. They have different failure domains and should produce separate status fields.

Verification checklist
- A fixture with only whitespace changes does not alert.
- A changed date, venue, capacity, price, status, or registration link does alert.
- A redirect, block, timeout, and parser failure each produce distinct states.
- The last successful snapshot remains available during an outage.
- Snapshot filenames, manifest timestamps, and diffs use UTC.
- Browser-rendered checks wait for the intended selector rather than an arbitrary delay alone.
- Retention is long enough to establish when an event field changed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I monitor several registration pages with one process?
Yes. Keep one configuration record per URL, run the same acquisition and canonicalization pipeline for each record, and add per-host concurrency limits and jitter so one site is not flooded.
Should a screenshot replace the HTML snapshot?
No. A screenshot is useful evidence of visual output, while normalized HTML or field JSON is easier to hash, diff, and query. Store both when visual proof matters.

How do I test alerting without waiting for a real event update?
