An iPhone usually won’t appear in Roku’s separate Screen Mirroring feature because Roku documents that feature for compatible Android and Windows devices. To mirror an iPhone, use AirPlay instead. AirPlay works only if your specific Roku model and software support it, AirPlay is turned on, and both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If AirPlay isn’t available, a compatible iPhone digital AV adapter and HDMI cable can connect the phone directly to the TV, bypassing Roku.

Why iPhone doesn’t appear in Roku Screen Mirroring

“Mirroring” describes what you see on the TV, but it can refer to different connection methods. Roku’s Screen Mirroring feature is for compatible Android and Windows devices. For Apple devices, Roku’s route is AirPlay, which can mirror an iPhone screen or send supported audio and video to a compatible Roku.

That’s why enabling a generic Roku screen-mirroring setting won’t make an iPhone appear. Check whether your Roku supports AirPlay, rather than assuming every Roku device accepts iPhone mirroring.

Check whether your Roku and iPhone support AirPlay

Find the Roku model and software version

On the Roku home screen, go to Settings > System > About. Roku’s AirPlay and HomeKit support page lists compatible Roku TV, streaming-player, and audio-device models. The requirements vary by model group: many listed devices need Roku OS 9.4 or later, while certain older device groups need Roku OS 10.0 or later. Roku Select and Plus Series TVs are listed as supporting AirPlay and HomeKit regardless of Roku OS version. Check the exact model against Roku’s current list; the Roku name or TV appearance alone does not confirm support.

Check the iPhone software

Roku lists iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 12.3 or later for AirPlay 2 streaming. This is the threshold in Roku’s published support article; check that page for any updated requirements.

Set up AirPlay screen mirroring

  1. Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network. On Roku, see the network details at Settings > Network > About.
  2. Turn on AirPlay on Roku. Go to Settings > Apple AirPlay and HomeKit and set AirPlay to On.
  3. Open Screen Mirroring on your iPhone. Open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and select your Roku.
  4. Enter a passcode if prompted. If a code appears on the TV, enter it on the iPhone.

To send only a particular video, song, or photo instead of the whole screen, use the app’s AirPlay control if it offers one. Depending on the app, that control may be under Share. Apple’s AirPlay instructions explain how to stream or mirror from an iPhone or iPad.

Troubleshoot when AirPlay is missing or won’t play

Your Roku doesn’t appear in the device list

  • Confirm that the exact Roku model and software support AirPlay.
  • Check that AirPlay is set to On in Settings > Apple AirPlay and HomeKit.
  • Verify that the iPhone and Roku are on the same Wi-Fi network.

The Roku TV or Streambar is in standby

Roku says its TVs and Streambars may not stay connected to Wi-Fi while powered off. Its Fast TV Start or Fast start setting can keep the device connected in standby, but uses more power than normal standby.

AirPlay connects, but one app’s video fails

Some video apps don’t support AirPlay. If other AirPlay functions work and the Roku is discoverable, check the app’s AirPlay support or see whether that app is available directly on Roku. App-specific behavior does not by itself mean that Roku AirPlay is broken.

Choose the right alternative if AirPlay isn’t an option

Option What it does Requirement or limitation
AirPlay screen mirroring Shows the iPhone screen on the Roku Compatible Roku model and software, AirPlay enabled, and both devices on the same Wi-Fi network
In-app AirPlay Sends supported video, audio, or photos to the Roku The app must support and expose AirPlay; it does not necessarily mirror the whole screen
Roku app or app-based casting Plays content through the Roku app or a supported app feature Availability and casting support vary; this is not full-screen iPhone mirroring
iPhone adapter and HDMI Displays the iPhone on the TV over a cable Requires an adapter that matches the iPhone connector and an available TV HDMI input; it bypasses Roku

Connect the iPhone directly to the TV

Apple documents connecting an iPhone to a display with a connector-matched digital AV adapter and HDMI cable. Connect the adapter to the iPhone, connect the HDMI cable to the adapter and TV, then select the corresponding HDMI input on the TV. This is a wired fallback, not a way to add AirPlay support to Roku. Some protected video requires an HDCP-compatible digital connection. See Apple’s Digital AV Adapter support page for adapter guidance.
