To mirror a compatible Samsung Galaxy tablet to a TV, swipe down to open Quick Settings, tap Smart View, choose the TV, then approve the connection on the TV if asked. Both devices should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Smart View availability depends on the tablet, TV and software, so the steps are not guaranteed to work with every model.
How to screen mirror a Samsung tablet to a TV with Smart View
- Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network. Turn on the TV and make sure it supports the relevant screen-mirroring feature. Samsung describes Smart View as a wireless option for compatible Galaxy devices and TVs. Samsung’s Smart View guidance explains that compatibility varies by device.
- Open Quick Settings on the tablet. Swipe down from the top of the screen. If Smart View is not visible, swipe down again to expand the panel. Depending on the software version, you may be able to tap Edit and add Smart View to the buttons.
- Choose the TV. Tap Smart View, then select your TV from the list of available devices.
- Approve the connection on the TV if prompted. Select Allow or the equivalent permission option. The tablet screen should appear on the TV after the connection is accepted. Samsung’s step-by-step instructions cover the Smart View controls.
To stop mirroring, disconnect from Smart View on the tablet or press the TV remote’s Return button. TV and tablet menus can differ by model and software version.
Why Smart View might not find the TV or connect
Check these items in order, starting with the simplest. Samsung notes that compatibility and some menu labels vary across devices.
The TV is missing from the list
- Confirm the TV is powered on and both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Check that the TV supports the required screen-mirroring technology. Samsung’s US troubleshooting guidance identifies a Miracast-capable receiving device as a requirement for this connection.
- Look for an option to refresh or search again in the Smart View device list.
- If the TV is a Samsung model, check its connection notification or device-access settings. The setting names and location vary by model.
The TV asks for permission, or the connection is rejected
Choose Allow on the TV when the request appears. If a previous choice blocked the tablet, review the TV’s device-access or connection-notification settings and permit the Galaxy Tab. Samsung’s troubleshooting instructions describe TV access controls, though their names can vary.

The picture stutters or Smart View reports an error
- Install available software updates on both the tablet and TV, then restart both devices.
- Reduce wireless interference or move devices closer to the Wi-Fi router if the connection is unstable.
- If Smart View shows a VPN setting error, disconnect the VPN and try again, as Samsung recommends.
The picture looks too small
Smart View controls may include an option to adjust the tablet’s aspect ratio for the TV. Check the mirroring controls for an aspect-ratio setting; its label and availability depend on the device and software.
A movie or app appears black or will not play
Samsung says DRM-protected content cannot be mirrored through Smart View. Some apps may also restrict playback over screen mirroring. If the app offers its own cast feature, try that instead: casting supported app content is different from displaying the entire tablet screen. When to consider a factory reset
A factory reset is a last resort, not an early Smart View fix: it erases data from the tablet. Samsung also cautions that resetting may not permanently solve a problem caused by an app that needs a later update. Try the network, permission, update and restart checks first.

Can you mirror a Galaxy Tab to a TV without Wi-Fi?
Smart View’s normal setup requires both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network, so it is not the right route when that connection is unavailable. For a non-smart TV, Samsung UK describes using an HDMI adapter, but whether a wired connection works depends on the exact Galaxy Tab model and its port capabilities. A cast-enabled app may offer another way to send its own content to a compatible receiver, but app casting is not the same as mirroring the whole tablet display. Samsung UK also says SmartThings can connect to most Samsung TVs manufactured from 2016 onward; that is a Samsung compatibility statement, not a guarantee for every TV or tablet combination.

Wireless DeX has its own compatibility requirements. Samsung’s US Wireless DeX guide says compatible devices can connect to Samsung TVs and Smart Monitors from 2018 onward, and its current supported-model guidance excludes the Tab S9 FE and Tab S10 FE series. These are Samsung compatibility statements; check the current model list because support can change.
