To flip a picture horizontally in desktop Word, select it, open the picture-formatting tab, then choose Rotate → Flip Horizontal. This mirrors the picture from left to right; it does not turn it 90 degrees or upside down.

Click the picture you want to mirror.

Open the contextual Picture Format tab. Depending on your Word edition or context, it may be labeled Picture Tools or Format.

In the Arrange group, select Rotate.

Choose Flip Horizontal. Word reverses the picture left to right.

If the picture-formatting tab is missing
The format tab is contextual, so it appears when an image is selected. Click the picture again and check the ribbon. Microsoft also notes that double-clicking the object may open its Format tab.

Flip Vertical: turns the picture upside down.

Rotate Left 90° or Rotate Right 90°: turns the picture sideways rather than mirroring it.

What if you are using Word for the web?
The cited Microsoft instructions describe the desktop ribbon and do not establish whether the same flip command is available in Word for the web. If you cannot find it in the web app, try opening the document in desktop Word and follow the steps above.
