Knox Mobile Enrollment (KME) automates the handoff from a company-owned Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet to your enterprise mobility management (EMM) system. It does not replace the EMM. An administrator prepares a profile in the Knox Admin Portal, assigns that profile to eligible device records, and then lets the user enroll during first boot (OOBE) or through a QR-code setup flow. The reliable rollout sequence is: verify the exact model and market, confirm reseller upload or QR eligibility, prepare the EMM tenant and licenses, create and assign the KME profile, complete enrollment, and verify both Knox and EMM status.
What Knox Mobile Enrollment actually manages
Samsung describes Knox Mobile Enrollment as an automated bulk-enrollment tool for corporate devices. The service stores a device’s enrollment instruction and applies it when the device starts setup. That instruction identifies the EMM or UEM tenant, the authentication behavior, and any selected Knox services. The phone or tablet then contacts the management service and receives the organization’s policies.
KME is therefore a provisioning bridge, not a full device-management platform. Applications, compliance rules, certificates, remote actions, and most day-to-day administration remain in the EMM. If the profile points to an EMM but that tenant is not configured to accept the device, KME cannot complete the deployment.
What KME can automate
- Assignment of a corporate Samsung device to an enrollment profile.
- Automatic EMM enrollment during the out-of-box setup experience.
- Selection of supported Knox cloud services in an OOBE profile.
- QR-based EMM enrollment for eligible Android 10 or later devices.
What KME does not do by itself
- Provide an EMM tenant or replace your EMM/UEM.
- Guarantee that every Galaxy model is available in every country.
- Enroll Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence through the KME QR flow.
- Make advanced profile settings available without the required Knox Suite license.
Confirm your Galaxy Enterprise Edition fleet before ordering
Galaxy Enterprise Edition is a device-and-service package, not one universal handset. Samsung places selected Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, Galaxy A, Galaxy Tab S, and rugged families in the program. The exact model list, bundle terms, and KME eligibility vary by country and region, so procurement should verify the complete SKU and market rather than relying on a family name.

- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Record these details for every proposed SKU
- Country in which the devices will be activated and supported.
- Full model code, including storage, connectivity, and regional suffix.
- Android version shipped and the version expected at deployment.
- Whether the device is new, already set up, or will be factory-reset.
- Authorized participating reseller and the reseller’s KME upload process.
- Target EMM/UEM tenant, authentication method, and administrator contact.
Samsung’s current KME guidance says supported Samsung devices generally cover the latest five major Android versions. That is a moving compatibility window, not a lifetime promise. Check the current supported-device data for the model, country, and specific feature you intend to use.
Enterprise Edition service terms to verify locally
Samsung’s Enterprise Edition offer describes a one-year Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan subscription, with extensions available. The offer is region-dependent, so confirm whether the subscription is included with your purchase, when it starts, which services it covers, and how renewal is handled. Samsung also describes up to seven years of security-maintenance releases for supported devices under its cited policy, a three-year warranty for Enterprise Edition devices launched in 2024 and after, and a two-year product sales lifecycle measured from global launch. These are eligibility-qualified package terms; they should not be applied automatically to every model or market.
Prepare accounts, reseller records, and network access
Before creating a profile, make sure the administrative path is complete. KME enrollment often fails because one prerequisite belongs to a different team and was assumed rather than confirmed.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Administrative prerequisites
- A Knox Admin Portal account with permission to manage devices, profiles, and the required services.
- An EMM/UEM tenant that is ready for Android Enterprise enrollment and can issue credentials or tokens when prompted.
- For OOBE, a participating reseller that has uploaded the device identifiers to your Knox account.
- For QR enrollment, a supported Samsung device running Android 10 or later and access to the profile’s QR code.
- An active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an unused license seat if the profile uses advanced settings.
Connectivity prerequisites
Devices need working Wi-Fi during setup unless your chosen enrollment design provides another supported connection. Captive-portal networks require special care: Samsung documents OOBE enrollment on such networks for devices running Android 14 or later. Test the exact Android build and network before a large shipment arrives. A network that blocks the Knox or EMM endpoints can leave a device at setup even though the profile is correct.

Create and assign a KME enrollment profile
Use the Knox Admin Portal to define what happens when the device reaches setup. The labels can change as Samsung updates the portal, but the workflow is consistent: create a profile, select the management service, configure settings, review, and assign it.
- Open the profile area. Sign in to Knox Admin Portal with an administrator role that can create profiles and manage services.
- Create a new enrollment profile. Give it a name that identifies the business unit, region, or deployment wave. Avoid names that depend on a temporary project date.
- Select the EMM option. Enter the EMM information requested by the portal, such as the tenant identifier, enrollment token, or administrator instructions. Obtain these values from the EMM documentation or console; KME does not generate a substitute tenant.
- Select optional Knox services. Add Knox Service Plugin where your EMM and device policy design support it, and select other Knox cloud services required by the deployment. Services selected here must be available for the chosen enrollment path.
- Configure standard behavior. Set the user-facing organization name, support contact, authentication prompts, and other standard options exposed by the profile.
- Review advanced settings. Advanced profile controls require an active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an available license seat. If the plan is missing, expired, or out of seats, save a base profile or resolve licensing before assigning an advanced profile.
- Review and create. Check the EMM destination, selected services, and user instructions. A typo in the tenant or token can affect an entire shipment.
- Assign the profile to device records. Select the reseller-uploaded devices for OOBE, or prepare the QR code for devices that will use the QR path. Confirm that the portal shows the intended assignment before shipping or handing over hardware.
Profile assignment is not the same as completed enrollment. A device can be assigned and still wait for its user to power it on, connect to Wi-Fi, and authenticate to the EMM.
Choose OOBE or QR enrollment
The two KME paths solve different logistics problems. Use OOBE when the reseller can upload the fleet and you want a hands-off first-boot experience. Use QR enrollment for smaller deployments or eligible devices that are not present in a reseller-uploaded inventory.

| Choice | Best fit | Requirements | Boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| OOBE enrollment | Large fleets purchased through an authorized participating reseller | Reseller-uploaded device identifiers, approved records, assigned profile, and a new or factory-reset device | Requires the reseller upload and profile assignment before setup; captive-portal Wi-Fi support is documented for Android 14 or later |
| QR enrollment | Smaller deployments or devices not uploaded by a reseller | Eligible Samsung device on Android 10 or later, profile QR code, Wi-Fi, and EMM credentials | The KME QR flow enrolls into an EMM only; it does not enroll Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence in that same flow |
| Base KME | Automatic EMM enrollment without advanced KME controls | KME account and correctly configured profile | KME itself can be used without a license, but advanced profile functions are unavailable |
| Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan | Profiles that need advanced settings and selected broader Knox capabilities | Active plan and available license seat | Bundle, extension, and regional purchasing terms vary |
Run an OOBE enrollment for a reseller-supplied fleet
OOBE means the out-of-box experience: the device is new or factory-reset and has not been through ordinary Android setup. This is the preferred path for a large reseller-supplied fleet because the assignment can be completed before shipment.

- Have the reseller upload identifiers. Ask the authorized participating reseller to upload the device records to your Knox account. Wait until the records appear in Knox Admin Portal and follow any approval step shown there.
- Approve and assign. Approve pending records when required, select the intended enrollment profile, and verify that each device shows the profile assignment rather than an unassigned state.
- Ship or hand over the device without completing setup. If a device was previously configured, factory-reset it before using this flow. A device that has already passed setup may not display the KME OOBE prompts.
- Start the device. The user powers on the phone or tablet, chooses language and region, and joins Wi-Fi. On supported Android 14 or later devices, Samsung documents OOBE support for Wi-Fi networks behind captive portals.
- Follow the management prompt. The setup flow identifies the organization and directs the user to the EMM enrollment step defined by the profile.
- Authenticate to the EMM. The user enters the organization’s EMM credentials or completes the authentication method configured by the tenant. KME supplies the route; the EMM decides whether the account and device may enroll.
- Finish Android setup. Keep the device connected until enrollment and policy installation complete. Do not remove the work account or reset the device during this stage.
What the user should see
The exact screen wording depends on the EMM and profile, but the user should encounter an organization-branded management step rather than a completely unmanaged setup. If the device proceeds through ordinary consumer setup with no management prompt, stop and check the device record, profile assignment, network, and reseller upload before distributing it.
Run a QR-code enrollment
QR enrollment is useful when the device is eligible but was not uploaded by a reseller. Samsung’s described KME QR flow supports eligible Samsung devices running Android 10 or later. It enrolls into an EMM only, so do not select QR when the same setup must also place the device into Knox E-FOTA or Knox Asset Intelligence.
- Prepare the profile QR code. In Knox Admin Portal, open the profile intended for the device and display or export its QR code according to the portal’s current controls. Protect the code as you would an enrollment token.
- Factory-reset or start a supported device. QR capture is part of Android setup. If the device has already been configured, back up required data and perform a factory reset using your approved process.
- Open the enrollment QR reader. Start setup and use the Knox deployment or Android provisioning path to reach the QR scanner. The exact gesture or screen can vary by Android build.
- Scan the code. Hold the camera over the profile QR code until the device accepts it. The code carries the profile information; if Wi-Fi details were not embedded, setup will ask for a network.
- Connect to Wi-Fi. Use a network that permits the device to reach Samsung’s enrollment service and the EMM endpoints.
- Complete EMM authentication. Follow the tenant’s sign-in, multifactor, or enrollment-token prompts.
- Wait for policy completion. Leave the device powered and connected while the EMM applies its baseline. Confirm the device appears in both systems before issuing it to a user.
Verify assignment, enrollment, and licensing status
Use two consoles for verification: Knox Admin Portal confirms the device record and profile state; the EMM confirms that management enrollment and policy delivery succeeded. A green-looking state in one console does not prove the other step completed.

| Unassigned | The device exists in the portal but has no enrollment profile | Select the correct profile and assign it before shipment or setup |
| Failed to assign | The portal could not apply the selected profile | Open the device and profile details, correct eligibility or licensing issues, then retry; do not assume the user can enroll successfully |
| Profile assigned | A profile is attached, but the user has not completed enrollment | Have the user perform OOBE or QR setup and authenticate to the EMM |
| EMM auto-enrollment on | OOBE enrollment into the assigned EMM is enabled | Proceed with first-boot testing and verify the EMM record |
| EMM auto-enrollment off | A profile exists, but automatic EMM enrollment is not enabled | Edit or replace the profile, enable the intended EMM behavior, and reassign if necessary |
After setup, record the device serial or identifier, Knox profile, EMM record, assigned user, and deployment date in your asset process. This creates a traceable handoff without relying on a single portal’s status label.

Troubleshoot the common failure branches
The device is missing from Knox Admin Portal
For OOBE, the reseller may not have uploaded the identifier, may have uploaded it to another customer account, or the record may still be pending. Confirm the exact model code and serial or IMEI with the reseller, then check the Pending and Unassigned views. QR enrollment does not depend on a reseller upload, but it still requires a supported model and Android version.
The profile cannot be assigned
Check model and regional eligibility, profile-service compatibility, administrator permissions, and license availability. If the profile uses advanced settings, verify that the Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan is active and has an available seat. Remove unsupported services or use a base profile only after confirming that the resulting management behavior meets your requirements.
Setup never shows the organization
First verify that the device is new or factory-reset and that the intended profile was assigned before setup. Then test Wi-Fi access, including captive-portal behavior and firewall rules. If the device is using QR enrollment, confirm that the code belongs to the intended profile and that the Android build is 10 or later. A device that has already completed setup may need to be reset before the enrollment path appears again.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEnrollment reaches the EMM but fails authentication
This indicates that KME delivered the management route but the EMM rejected the enrollment. Check the tenant identifier or token, user permissions, multifactor requirements, device limits, and time synchronization. Resolve the issue in the EMM, then retry from a clean setup state if the EMM does not support resume.

The device enrolls with restricted functionality
Restricted provisioning commonly means that the profile requested advanced functions but the required license is absent, expired, or has no remaining seats. Samsung states that base enrollment may continue while advanced profile functionality is unavailable. Confirm the Enterprise Plan status and seat count, renew or allocate the license, and then apply the corrected profile or service configuration. Do not promise users that a restricted device has the same controls as a fully licensed deployment.
An administrator cannot perform an action
Knox roles separate device, profile, and service permissions. Review the administrator’s assigned role and request the minimum additional permission needed for the action. Avoid solving a single failed assignment by granting unrestricted access to every portal function.
License and cost decisions
KME itself can be used without a license, according to Samsung’s licensing FAQ. The practical cost boundary is advanced functionality: advanced profile settings require an active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and an available license seat. The Enterprise Edition package may include one year of that plan, but inclusion, activation, extensions, and renewal terms are market-specific.
| Need | License implication |
|---|---|
| Automatic enrollment into an EMM using standard profile behavior | KME can be used without a license, subject to account and device eligibility |
| Advanced KME profile settings | Active Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan and available seat required |
| Enterprise Edition bundled plan | Samsung describes one year included for the package; verify local offer and renewal terms |
| QR enrollment into an EMM | Eligible Android 10 or later device and a valid profile QR code; QR does not itself add other Knox cloud services |
Plan a repeatable rollout for multiple waves
Pilot before bulk assignment
Use one or two devices from each model and region. Test both a normal Wi-Fi network and, where relevant, the captive-portal network used by staff. Validate the EMM record, policy receipt, work-account behavior, and the recovery path after a factory reset. A pilot catches SKU, Android-version, reseller, and tenant mistakes before they affect a shipment.
Separate profiles by genuine policy differences
Create separate profiles when regions, legal entities, EMM tenants, authentication methods, or Knox-service selections differ. Do not create dozens of profiles for cosmetic labels that can be managed in the EMM. Name profiles for durable business meaning, and document who owns each one.
Control the handoff
- Keep a manifest linking reseller records to purchase order, model code, and intended profile.
- Require a status check before a device leaves staging.
- Record the EMM enrollment result and assigned user or department.
- Protect QR codes and enrollment tokens; rotate or retire them when the deployment changes.
- Define who approves pending uploads, assigns profiles, and resolves failed assignments.
Handle replacement and reset scenarios
When a device is replaced, remove or retire the old EMM record according to your asset process and ensure the replacement has the correct KME assignment. For returned hardware, factory-reset only after data-removal requirements are met, then verify that the next setup follows the intended profile. A reset device can re-enter automatic enrollment, so profile assignment and ownership records must stay accurate throughout its lifecycle.
Security and operational guardrails
- Use least-privilege Knox roles and separate daily administration from high-impact profile changes.
- Require approval for profile edits that change the EMM tenant or add cloud services.
- Test profile changes on a pilot assignment before applying them to a production fleet.
- Keep EMM enrollment tokens, QR codes, and reseller account details out of public documentation.
- Monitor both Knox and EMM status so a device cannot be marked deployed after only one side reports success.
- Track Android-version support and regional model eligibility whenever Samsung updates the supported-device window.
A concise deployment checklist
- Confirm country, exact SKU, Android version, reseller, EMM tenant, and whether each device is new or factory-reset.
- Verify that the model is supported in the target market and within Samsung’s current supported Android-version window.
- Choose OOBE for reseller-uploaded fleets or QR for eligible non-uploaded devices.
- Prepare the EMM tenant, authentication, network access, and administrator roles.
- Confirm Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan status and seats if advanced profile settings are required.
- Create the KME profile, select EMM and any supported Knox services, review settings, and assign devices.
- Complete a pilot enrollment and check both Knox and EMM records.
- Roll out in waves, watching Pending, Unassigned, Failed to assign, Profile assigned, and EMM auto-enrollment states.
- Document the final device-to-user handoff and the recovery process for resets or replacements.
The Bottom Line
KME makes Samsung corporate-device enrollment repeatable, but success depends on the handoff between four pieces: a market-eligible Galaxy Enterprise Edition device, an accurate Knox profile, a ready EMM tenant, and the license level required by the profile. Use reseller-backed OOBE for large first-boot deployments, QR enrollment for eligible smaller or non-uploaded deployments, and verify completion in both Knox Admin Portal and the EMM.
