To remove a saved card, open the retailer account’s payment or wallet area, select the card, and choose its remove or delete control. If removal is unavailable, the card is usually still assigned as a default or backup method, attached to an open order, or used for a subscription or membership. Change that relationship first, then try again.
Deleting a card from a wallet does not cancel an order, reverse a pending transaction, or automatically end a subscription. Retailer-held balances, shopping credit, gift-card value, and stored debit or credit cards are separate account features, and each retailer sets different rules for them.
Identify what you are trying to change
“Remove my card” can mean several different account actions. Choose the relationship that matches your problem before changing anything.

Before you remove anything
Write down the last four digits of the card and identify every place it may be used. Check open and recently placed orders, orders being prepared, pending transactions, memberships, subscriptions, and any setting for backup or fallback payments. This prevents a common mistake: removing a wallet entry while leaving the same card attached to the transaction that prompted the removal.
If you still need the account to make purchases, add another eligible method before deleting the old one. Some retailers will not let you remove the only default method. If the card number changed because the issuer replaced the card, the retailer may require you to delete the old entry and add the card again rather than editing only the expiration date.
A safe removal workflow for any shopping app
- Check for activity first. Look at open orders, prepared orders, pending transactions, memberships, subscriptions, and any backup-payment setting that could still reference the card.
- Open the account payment area. Common names include Payments, Wallet, Payment options, or Your Payments. Use the retailer’s account menu rather than deleting the app or clearing its local data.
- Select the specific card. Confirm the last four digits or other identifier so you do not alter the wrong method.
- Replace dependencies. Add another eligible method and make it the default when the old card is the default. Update any order, membership, subscription, or backup setting that points to the old card.
- Remove or delete the wallet entry. Confirm the prompt. If the control is missing or disabled, return to the dependency checks instead of repeatedly tapping the card.
- Verify the result. Reopen the wallet, confirm that the card is gone or no longer selected, and separately inspect open orders and recurring-billing pages. A wallet change is not proof that an existing transaction changed.
Amazon (US): remove a card, then handle linked orders
Remove or edit a saved card
- Open Your Account.
- Choose Your Payments.
- Select the card.
- Choose Edit to change its details, or choose Remove from wallet to delete it.
- Confirm the removal and reopen Your Payments to verify the card no longer appears.
Amazon states that changing a saved payment method does not change open orders. If an order already exists, open that order and use its order-specific payment-change flow when available; do not assume the wallet edit was applied retroactively.

Amazon Pay explains that removal can be unavailable when the method is the default, linked to an active subscription, or attached to a pending order. Add another eligible method, set it as the new default, and update each linked order, subscription, or membership transaction. Then return to Your Payments and retry Remove from wallet.
Check backup payment settings
Amazon Pay places backup-payment controls under Your Payments > Settings. If you are trying to prevent a fallback charge, review those settings as well as the default card. A card that is not the main method may still be selected as a backup for a separate billing relationship.
Walmart (US): wallet removal and the limited order-edit window
Remove a card from the wallet
- In the Walmart app or on Walmart.com, open Account.
- Choose Settings > Wallet.
- Choose Edit beside the card.
- Select the remove option. Walmart’s troubleshooting sequence labels it Account > Wallet > Edit > Remove Card.
- Reopen Wallet to confirm the card is no longer saved.
Walmart warns that a method linked to an active order, subscription, or membership may not be removable. A default method can be changed in Wallet by selecting another method and choosing Set as Default.

Change payment on an eligible order
- Open Account > Purchase history.
- Select the order.
- Choose Edit under Payment Method.
- Select the replacement method and save the change.
Walmart says this order-specific edit is limited to an order in placed or prepared status, can be performed once per order, and is unavailable after the order is on the way or delivered. If the card number changed, delete the old card and add the card again with its current details.

For Walmart+ recurring billing, use Manage Membership > Payments & Billing. Removing the card from Wallet alone is not the membership-billing change. After saving a replacement, revisit the membership page to make sure the new method is shown there, not merely in the general wallet.
Understand Walmart Balance and Walmart Cash
Walmart lists Walmart Balance among accepted payment methods and says Walmart Cash can be used for purchases in stores and online. These are account balance features, not stored debit or credit cards. The available instructions do not establish a universal way to cancel, cash out, transfer, refund, or remove those balances. Use the applicable balance or gift-card terms, or contact Walmart support for the specific account feature.
eBay: edit saved card details, but do not assume a removal path
- Open My eBay > Payments.
- Choose Edit under Payment options.
- Update the card details and save.
At checkout, eBay also offers Remember this card for future orders. The official help material covering this flow explains editing and saving card information but does not provide a card-removal procedure. If no remove control appears in the current Payments screen, check the current account controls or contact eBay support rather than following an invented menu path. Do not assume that turning off the checkout memory option removes an already stored method from every account screen.
Why a saved card cannot be deleted
The card is the default method
Many wallets require another eligible method before the current default can be removed. Add the replacement, select Set as Default or the equivalent control, and retry deletion.

An open or pending order still references it
A wallet card and an order’s assigned payment method can be separate records. Use the order’s own edit-payment control when the retailer provides one. Amazon says wallet changes do not alter open orders; Walmart provides the limited placed-or-prepared edit window described above. Once Walmart marks an order on the way or delivered, its documented order-edit route is no longer available.

A subscription or membership uses it
Recurring billing may be managed outside the general wallet. Update the payment method in the subscription or membership page first. Amazon Pay identifies active subscriptions and membership transactions as reasons removal can be blocked; Walmart directs Walmart+ customers to Manage Membership > Payments & Billing.
It is configured as a backup method
A backup card may not look active in ordinary checkout but can still be assigned to a fallback rule. Review the retailer’s backup-payment settings and replace or remove the assignment before deleting the card.
The app’s labels do not match these instructions
Retailers change menus by country, device, account type, and app release. Try the retailer’s website account page if the app does not show the control, and use the current help or support channel when the relationship is not visible. Do not infer that uninstalling the app removes server-side payment data.

Not necessarily. Removing a saved method changes the wallet record; it does not automatically cancel an order or rewrite a transaction that has already been submitted. A pending order may continue through its own payment process, and a recurring charge can use a subscription or membership relationship that must be changed separately.
Before deleting the card, identify whether the charge belongs to a one-time order, a membership, a subscription, or a backup-payment rule. Change the relevant order or billing setting first when the retailer permits it. If the transaction remains unclear, keep the order or transaction details and contact the retailer through its official support channel; do not rely on wallet deletion as a cancellation request.
Managing shopping credit, balances, and gift-card value
Retailer credit is not the same as a saved bank card. A card contains payment credentials issued by a financial institution; a balance or credit is value recorded in the retailer account. Removing the card therefore should not be expected to remove the balance or prevent its use.

What to do when self-service removal fails
- Record the retailer, account area, card identifier, and the exact message or missing control.
- Check the default setting, backup setting, open-order page, and membership or subscription billing page again.
- Try the retailer’s website account controls if the app view is incomplete, while remembering that labels can vary by country and account type.
- Use official support and explain whether you need a wallet deletion, an order payment change, a recurring-billing change, or a balance-policy answer. These are different requests.
- Ask support to confirm what remains linked after the change. A card disappearing from the wallet does not prove that a pending order or recurring relationship was changed.
Do not provide card details through an unofficial message or assume an app reinstall has removed the account record. Keep the order number or membership details available so support can identify the relevant transaction.
