The reliable way to manage inventory space in ARC Raiders is to farm toward a specific objective, not to collect everything that might become useful. Before a drop, identify the quest, recipe, weapon-stock project, or workshop upgrade you are pursuing. Reserve space for its materials, protect rare components, and treat field crafting and field recycling as situational tools. After extraction, consolidate stacks, move eligible resources into the stash, and remove surplus that has no near-term purpose.
There is no official universal number of units to keep for every material. Your reserve should change with your current objectives, how difficult an item is to replace, and whether the item has immediate raid value.
The five-part inventory loop
Use the same sequence for every material run. It prevents a full backpack from forcing you to abandon the resources you actually need.
1. Name the goal before dropping
Open your active objectives and workshop projects before entering a raid. Write down the materials that directly advance one of them. If you are collecting for several unrelated projects, rank them rather than treating every requirement as equal. A goal such as “upgrade the workbench” gives you a clear reason to keep a component; “it may be useful later” does not.

Check the current recipes and item descriptions in your build of the game. Community keep lists are opinions, and recipes or uses can change after an update. A material needed for an active objective takes precedence over a common item that is easy to farm again.
2. Reserve space for the target materials
Start the raid with empty slots for the items you expect to find. Do not fill the backpack with low-value loot simply because it is available in the stash. Keep your planned reserve visible in your mental or written checklist, and leave additional room if the target material commonly appears alongside other components you may need to carry home.
Separate “must extract” items from “nice to have” items. The first group includes active quest requirements, rare parts, and components that are inconvenient to replace. The second group can be dropped when space becomes tight.
3. Triage items as you find them
When the backpack approaches capacity, make a decision immediately instead of waiting until the final room or extraction route. Compare each item with five questions:
- Is it required for an active quest, recipe, or upgrade?
- How difficult will it be to farm again?
- Will its components occupy more or less space if you craft with it?
- Does it provide useful raid utility right now?
- Would selling or recycling it produce more practical value than carrying it home?
An item that fails all five tests is the first candidate to leave. Keep the target material even when a more valuable-looking incidental item appears; the target is what makes the run successful.
4. Use field actions only when they solve a space problem
Field Crafting can turn collected resources into an item you need immediately, but it also consumes inputs and may create an object that takes a different amount of space. Field Recycling can free a slot, yet it permanently gives up the item and its future uses. Use either action when the immediate benefit is greater than the value of bringing the original item back.
5. Reset the stash after extraction
Once you are home, move eligible resources into storage, merge partial stacks, and compare the remaining items with your current objectives. Sell or recycle excess only after checking that no active project needs it. This reset is what stops several small, messy runs from gradually filling every stash slot.

Decide whether to keep, craft, recycle, or sell
Inventory management is a choice between future progression, immediate survival, and space. The following framework keeps the decision consistent without pretending that one ranking works for every player.

When two choices appear equal, keep the item if it is rare or directly connected to an active objective. Be more aggressive with common materials that can be farmed in the next few runs.
Use Field Crafting and Field Recycling correctly
Opening Field Crafting
Embark’s Help Center says: “To open the field crafting menu, head into your inventory and select the Crafting tab.” The Crafting tab lists available recipes, and filters can show what you can make from the materials you currently hold. Use that list as a live view of your options rather than memorizing a recipe from an older guide.

Craft in the field when the result protects the run, completes an immediate requirement, or turns otherwise stranded inputs into a tool you will use before extraction. Do not craft merely to make the inventory look tidier. A finished item can be harder to stack or less valuable than its ingredients.
Opening Field Recycling
The same Help Center explains: “Field Recycling lets you break down items instantly.” Open the item’s details menu and select the recycling option. Before confirming, check whether the item is part of an active project and whether recycling at Speranza is preferable for that item in your current version.

Immediate recycling is most defensible when one slot is the difference between extracting a required component and leaving it behind. If you still have room, bringing the item home lets you compare its sell value, recipe use, and home-recycling yield before committing.
Protect space during a farming run
Use three priority levels
Mark every pickup mentally as one of three levels:
- Required: an active quest item, a component for the upgrade you are currently pursuing, or a rare part that would be painful to replace.
- Useful: a material needed soon, a versatile crafting input, or an item with meaningful utility during the raid.
- Incidental: common excess, duplicate low-priority loot, or an item with no planned use.
Required items stay until extraction. Useful items fill the remaining planned capacity. Incidental items are the first to sell, recycle, or drop.
Do not let partial stacks hide your capacity
Several small stacks can consume more stash slots than their total quantity suggests. After every extraction, use the game’s grouping or stack-merging control to combine partial stacks. Do this before deciding that you need more storage; the apparent shortage may be fragmentation rather than total volume.

Decide before the raid what success looks like: one quest component, a specified upgrade batch, or a full set of target materials. Once that goal is met, stop farming unless the route is exceptionally safe and you have clear spare capacity. Continuing to collect “just one more” item is how a focused run turns into a backpack full of low-priority loot.
Keep emergency space
Do not plan every slot around the expected harvest. A small open reserve gives you room to carry a rare find, replace a damaged utility item, or avoid discarding a required component when the route changes. The exact number of open slots depends on your loadout and route, so treat this as a principle rather than a fixed rule.

How much of each material should you keep?
No official source establishes a universal reserve for every material. A practical system is to keep the amount required by known active objectives, plus a modest buffer for the next crafting step, then reassess as soon as that objective is complete.
Objective-based reserve
For a named quest or upgrade, reserve the stated requirement and a small near-term cushion. Stop increasing the reserve when the project is finished. This prevents a completed upgrade from leaving you with a permanent hoard that blocks new materials.

One current community guide suggests keeping one stack of important materials as a baseline, then increasing that reserve while actively pursuing a weapon-stock or workbench-upgrade goal. It also recommends using the stash grouping control to merge partial stacks. This is a player-made system, not an official limit; adjust it to your recipes, play frequency, and storage space.
Example: Steel Springs and Wires
A community guide updated 4 October 2026 suggests keeping 20–30 Steel Springs and Wires, while selling common-material excess above immediate needs and delaying recycling until Speranza when feasible. Treat those quantities as one guide’s recommendation, not a rule for every account or game build. If your current objectives do not use those items, a smaller reserve may be sensible; if an upgrade requires them, temporarily keeping more can be justified.
Common versus rare materials
Common materials that are easy to farm can have a flexible reserve. Rare components, quest-locked items, and materials needed by several near-term recipes deserve protection even when they occupy valuable space. Recheck the item’s current uses before selling or recycling because community rankings can become outdated.

Use the post-match unload option carefully
PC Gamer has reported an end-of-match auto-unload backpack option that moves eligible resources into the stash while skipping weapons, ammunition, and quick-slot consumables. Because this is secondary coverage and interfaces can change, inspect the current post-match screen and confirm what the option actually moves in your build before relying on it.

- Unload eligible resources using the post-match option if it is present and correctly described.
- Merge partial stacks with the stash grouping control.
- Check active quests, crafting recipes, and workshop upgrades against the newly stored materials.
- Mark items with no planned use for sale or recycling.
- Leave the next run’s target materials easy to find instead of burying them among unrelated loot.
Choose the right place to recycle
Current community advice often favors waiting to recycle until you are back at Speranza, except when an immediate field recycle is needed to free a full backpack. The yield can vary by item and by location in the current build, so verify the item details rather than assuming that every item has the same advantage. If the next raid needs the component, keeping it is more important than optimizing a small salvage difference.

Expand long-term capacity through Expeditions
Embark’s 5 February 2026 article, “Preparing for your second Expedition,” describes additional stash spaces as a reward for continued departures. The dated reward snapshot lists permanent stash space increasing from 12 to 24 and a Scrappy material boost increasing from 6% to 12% for consecutive Expedition departures.
Those figures describe the second Expedition and its consecutive-departure rewards at the time of that article. Embark also warns that requirements and rewards can change. Check the current official Expedition information before planning a run around those values, and do not treat them as a permanent inventory rule.
Expedition progression is therefore a long-term capacity option, not a reason to carry every material today. Continue using goal-based triage while working toward it.

Fix common inventory problems
The stash is full before the raid
Merge partial stacks first. Then compare stored materials with active objectives and remove completed-project surplus. Sell or recycle common excess only after checking current recipes. If the stash is still full, create a short-term “next run” section and move unrelated items out of the way rather than expanding every reserve.
The backpack fills before you find the target
Stop collecting incidental loot, then reapply the five-question triage test. If a carried item has no active objective, no rarity advantage, no immediate utility, and weak sale or recycling value, drop it. Use field recycling only when the freed slot is more valuable than bringing the item home.
You cannot remember whether an item is safe to discard
Do not rely on an old community keep list. Check the item’s current details, inspect available recipes in the Crafting tab, and compare it with your active objectives. If the item is rare and you cannot verify its use, keeping a modest reserve is safer than selling the entire stock.
You crafted something and gained no room
Crafting does not automatically save space. Compare the inputs’ stack behavior with the output before using the recipe for storage management. If the crafted item is not needed immediately, you may have converted flexible materials into a less useful object; return to objective-based decisions on the next run.
You recycled the wrong item
Before confirming a field recycle, open the details menu and check the item’s name, current objective relevance, and expected salvage. If a mistake has already happened, update your next farming goal around the missing component instead of overfilling the stash with unrelated substitutes.
The interface changed after an update
Recheck the current inventory, post-match, and Expedition screens. The official Help Center confirms the Crafting-tab and item-details routes, while secondary guides may describe older labels or layouts. Treat community quantities and UI instructions as dated advice when they conflict with what the game currently shows.
A compact decision order for every pickup
Ask, in order: “Does this advance my current objective?” If yes, keep it. If not, ask whether it is rare or difficult to replace. If it is neither, ask whether it has immediate raid utility. If the answer is still no, compare its sell and recycling value with the slot it occupies. Drop, sell, or recycle the lowest-priority item first, then stop farming when the objective and reserve are complete.
