On a computer, manage Gemini’s automatic browsing permission in Chrome menu (three dots) > Settings > AI innovations > Gemini in Chrome. In Permissions, turn Let Gemini browse for you on or off. The same screen lists Sites Gemini can sign you in to, where you can remove automatic sign-in permission for individual websites.
Auto browse is an agent feature, not ordinary search: Gemini can navigate pages, use your existing Chrome sign-ins, and carry out multi-step tasks. Availability is currently limited, and Google requires you to review plans and take over at sensitive points.
Open the Gemini in Chrome permissions
- Open Chrome on your computer.
- Click the three-dot More menu in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Settings.
- Select AI innovations.
- Open Gemini in Chrome.
- Scroll to Permissions.
Use the Let Gemini browse for you switch to allow or block auto browse. Turning the switch off is the direct way to prevent Gemini from starting new browser tasks for you. This is a persistent Chrome setting, not merely a way to stop one task already in progress.

If AI innovations is not visible, open the menu control inside Chrome’s Settings page first. Chrome’s settings navigation can hide sections until that menu is expanded. Make sure you are changing settings in the Chrome profile where you normally use Gemini; another profile can have a different account, language, administrator policy, and permission state.

Remove a website’s automatic sign-in permission
Chrome keeps sign-in permissions separate from the general auto-browse switch. To revoke access for one site:
- Go to Chrome menu > Settings > AI innovations > Gemini in Chrome.
- In Permissions, find Sites Gemini can sign you in to.
- Locate the website you no longer want Gemini to sign in to automatically.
- Click the close control beside that site.
This removes Gemini’s automatic sign-in permission for that website. It does not delete the relationship between your Google Account and the website, and it does not remove the site’s saved password from Google Password Manager. You can therefore keep the saved credential while requiring a manual sign-in.
Removing a site is useful when you still want auto browse for public pages but do not want the agent to authenticate to a particular shopping, work, health, travel, or financial account. Review the list periodically because the general browse switch and individual sign-in approvals control different kinds of access.
Who can use auto browse
Google’s current requirements are cumulative. Meeting most of them is not enough if one of the account, device, location, language, browser, or safety conditions is missing.

Auto browse is unavailable in Incognito. Google also says it is not currently available in Live chats or in Gemini in Chrome on iPhone and iPad. A work or school account needs administrator enablement even when the user otherwise meets the requirements.
The subscription requirement is a product-access condition, not a separate browser permission. A Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription may be necessary, but subscribing alone does not override location, age, language, Safe Browsing, account-type, device, or rollout restrictions. Check the current Google AI plan terms before making a purchase because availability and limits can change.
Start, supervise, and stop an auto-browse task
1. Open Ask Gemini
At the top of Chrome, click Ask Gemini. Describe a task that requires several browser actions, such as comparing products, looking for deals, booking travel, making a reservation, or scheduling an appointment. A precise request helps Gemini form a narrower plan. Include the destination, dates, quantities, preferred sites, budget or other boundaries, and what it must not do.

2. Inspect the proposed plan
Before browsing begins, Gemini presents a plan. Review the pages it intends to use and the personal information it says it may use. Check the sequence, the destination websites, quantities, dates, names, addresses, recipients, and any other details that could cause a real-world change. If the plan selects an unexpected site or proposes a broader action than requested, stop and revise the prompt instead of approving it.

3. Authorize the task
Click Start Task only after the plan is acceptable. The first time Gemini needs to browse on a device, Chrome asks for permission to connect Chrome auto browse to Gemini. Google describes this first-use prompt as: “The first time Gemini needs to browse the web for you on a device, Chrome asks you for permission to connect Chrome auto browse to Gemini.” Granting that connection does not mean every site receives automatic sign-in permission; those site-specific approvals are managed separately in Sites Gemini can sign you in to.
4. Respond when Gemini pauses
Gemini can pause when your personal involvement is needed. Use the browser notification or click Check your task. On the task tab, select Take over task, complete the personal step yourself, then choose Resume or Give back task in the Gemini chat.
Sign-in steps commonly require this handoff. A remote browser may continue working after you close your device, but it can still pause until you take over for authentication or another private action. Keep an eye on notifications when a long-running task is open, and do not assume that closing your laptop cancels the task.

To stop an active task, click Stop in Gemini or close the task tab. Stopping an individual task is different from changing the persistent Let Gemini browse for you permission in Settings. If you do not want a new task to start later, turn off the setting as well.
What to check before giving control back
- Confirm that the account shown on the page is the intended account.
- Check totals, fees, quantities, dates, addresses, and recipients.
- Read the final form or message rather than relying on Gemini’s summary.
- Use takeover for passwords, one-time codes, identity checks, and private health or financial details.
- After resuming, verify that Gemini is still following the original plan.
What websites and information Gemini can use
Existing browser access
Auto browse can use a broad range of websites even when the related services are not connected to Gemini Apps. In the local Chrome browser, Gemini can access the same sites available to you, including sites where you are already signed in. That makes the feature useful for tasks spanning several accounts, but it also means the browser session itself becomes part of the security boundary.
Website availability is not the same as permission to complete every action. A page may be readable while sending a message, changing an account record, submitting a form, or placing an order still requires confirmation or takeover. Treat each proposed action as a separate decision.
Information shared with websites
When Gemini acts on your behalf, it may send information needed to complete the task to third parties. Google identifies possible categories including your name, contact information, files, preferences, and other sensitive information. Review the plan and confirm sensitive steps rather than assuming that a request stays inside Gemini.
Use the narrowest prompt that will accomplish the goal. For example, specify one travel date and one passenger profile instead of asking Gemini to explore every account or preference. Avoid placing unnecessary secrets in the task description, and do not approve a site that is not needed for the requested outcome.

Passwords and automatic sign-in
With permission, Gemini can use Google Password Manager and Sign in with Google to sign in to websites. Google says Password Manager does not share your passwords with Gemini or with other sites. The separate automatic sign-in permission can be removed at any time from the Sites Gemini can sign you in to list.
Removing automatic sign-in does not sign you out of a website that is already open, invalidate the website account, or erase a saved credential. If you need those outcomes, use the website’s own account controls or manage the credential separately in Google Password Manager.
Actions that require confirmation or takeover
Google documents confirmation or personal takeover points for actions such as:
- Starting a task or granting the initial browser connection.
- Sending communications.
- Modifying existing data.
- Submitting web forms.
- Scheduling events.
- Accessing highly sensitive financial or health information.
- Signing in to an account.
The exact pause point can depend on the website and the task. Read the requested action before approving it, especially when it creates an order, sends a message, changes a record, or exposes regulated or confidential information.
Why review is still necessary
Gemini can choose which sites to use and can make operational mistakes. Google warns that it may follow instructions incorrectly, click the wrong control, order the wrong item, or report completion when a task is incomplete. Treat a completion message as a prompt to verify the result on the website, not as proof that the intended outcome occurred.
For transactions, save the confirmation number or other evidence shown by the site. For messages and appointments, check the sent folder or calendar. For account changes, revisit the relevant settings page. These checks catch a mistaken click or an incomplete step that an agent summary may not reveal.
Auto browse limits and plan differences
Google documents daily limits of up to 20 multi-step requests for Google AI Pro and up to 200 for Google AI Ultra. These are plan limits, not guarantees of uninterrupted availability; simultaneous-task limits also apply, and Google may change limits as rollout evolves.

Use the lower limit as a planning constraint for repeated comparison or booking work. A request that fails or needs to be restarted may still count according to Google’s current accounting, so avoid launching duplicate tasks when the first one is merely waiting for takeover. Limits can differ from other Gemini usage limits and should not be treated as a promise that every task will run at the same speed.

Why the permission setting may be missing
Feature not released to the account
Google is rolling auto browse out gradually. You can satisfy the listed requirements and still have no switch until Google enables the feature for your account. Waiting for rollout is different from a browser error; repeatedly reinstalling Chrome will not necessarily make the control appear.
Wrong account type
Confirm that Chrome is signed in to a personal Google Account. A work or school profile requires an administrator to enable Gemini in Chrome, so a user cannot always turn it on independently. If several profiles are present, open the profile menu and verify the account before checking Settings.
Unsupported location, language, or plan
Check that you are in the United States, the device language is English, and the account has Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra. The official Chrome product description currently limits auto browse to those subscribers in the US, while the Help requirements add the age, Safe Browsing, latest-Chrome, and rollout conditions.

Update Chrome to its latest version and check Settings > Privacy and security > Safe Browsing. The documented requirement is Standard or Enhanced protection. Incognito windows cannot use auto browse.
Unsupported surface
Do not look for the control in Gemini in Chrome on iPhone or iPad, or expect it in Live chats. Google currently excludes both surfaces. Use a supported computer Chrome profile when testing eligibility.
Permission was changed but an old task remains
Turning off the setting prevents new automated browsing, but it is not the same as stopping an already running task. Stop the task in Gemini or close its task tab, then confirm the setting is off. If a website is already signed in, removing its automatic sign-in entry does not close that session; sign out on the site if needed.

Use manual browsing when a task involves unusually sensitive information, an irreversible transaction, or a website whose controls are difficult to verify. Auto browse is better suited to bounded, reviewable sequences where you can inspect the plan and remain available for takeover. A hybrid approach is often sensible: let Gemini gather options, then manually complete payment, identity verification, health information, or a final submission.
Safer operating checklist
- Read the proposed plan before clicking Start Task.
- Check the exact website, account, dates, quantities, recipients, and amounts.
- Remove automatic sign-in permission for sites you do not want Gemini to access.
- Keep sensitive health, financial, identity, and communication steps under your direct control.
- Use Take over task for sign-ins and private information, then choose Resume only after checking what happens next.
- Verify orders, messages, appointments, form submissions, and changed records directly on the website.
- Click Stop or close the task tab if the agent deviates from the plan.
- Turn off Let Gemini browse for you when you do not want new automated tasks started from Chrome.
- Keep Chrome, Safe Browsing, and the correct profile active before starting a task.
- Do not use Incognito as a workaround; auto browse is unavailable there.
What changing these permissions does not do
Disabling Let Gemini browse for you controls Chrome’s auto-browse capability; it does not delete your Google Account, disconnect a website from Sign in with Google, or erase saved passwords. Removing a site from Sites Gemini can sign you in to likewise changes Gemini’s automatic sign-in authorization only. Your existing website account and Google Password Manager entry remain unless you remove them separately.

Likewise, stopping a task does not undo an order, message, appointment, or data change that already reached a website. If an action was completed, use that service’s cancellation, edit, or account-recovery process. If Gemini reported completion incorrectly, inspect the site directly and contact the service when necessary.
