Gemini in Chrome and Gemini Apps Activity are controlled in two different places. Use Chrome > More > Settings > Gemini in Chrome to manage the browser assistant, page sharing, automatic browsing and saved sign-in permissions. Use Gemini Apps Activity in the Gemini app or at Google’s Gemini activity page to review, delete or stop saving conversations and related activity.
This guide covers availability requirements, exact Android paths, privacy controls, retention choices, auto-browse limits and the common reasons a setting may be missing.
Understand the two separate settings areas
The most important distinction is that Gemini’s browser features and the activity saved to your Google account do not use the same controls. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

Think of the first area as a product and permission panel, and the second as an account-history panel. Turning off page sharing does not erase saved conversations. Deleting activity does not remove the Gemini entry from Chrome or disable the browser feature.
Check whether Gemini in Chrome is available
Gemini in Chrome is being rolled out gradually, so its absence does not necessarily indicate a problem with your phone. Google lists all of the following conditions for Android access:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Your Google account must be in a supported region.
- The device must run Android 12 or later and have at least 4 GB of RAM.
- Chrome must be updated to its latest version.
- You must be signed in to Chrome.
- The device language must be set to English.
- Gemini in Chrome is not available in Incognito mode.
- A work or school account requires the organization’s administrator to enable the feature.
These requirements and the rollout status are documented in Google’s Android Gemini in Chrome help. Availability can vary by region and may change as Google expands the rollout.
If the Gemini option is missing
- Sign in to the Chrome profile you intend to use.
- Update Chrome through Google Play, then reopen it.
- Leave Incognito and open a normal Chrome tab.
- Confirm that the phone meets the Android, RAM and language requirements.
- Restart Chrome after updating or changing the device language.
- If the account belongs to an employer or school, ask the administrator whether Gemini in Chrome is enabled.
If the menu remains absent after these checks, the account or region may not yet be included in the gradual rollout. There is no local switch that can force an unavailable rollout. A qualifying phone can still lack the feature while Google enables it progressively.
Start a Gemini chat and control page sharing
When the feature is available, open a normal Chrome tab and use either of these entry points:
- Tap Ask Gemini when it appears in Chrome.
- Tap More > Ask Gemini.
The first use requires you to opt in. Chrome then opens a Gemini chat panel associated with the tab you are viewing. Google describes uses such as summarizing an article, explaining a topic, modifying a recipe and comparing information.
Stop sharing the current page
By default, the page currently open in the tab is shared with Gemini in Chrome for that chat. To prevent that transfer, tap Stop sharing in the chat box before sending a prompt. This is a per-chat action: check the sharing state whenever you start a conversation about sensitive or account-specific content.
Stopping sharing changes what Gemini receives from that tab; it does not close the chat or alter your account’s Keep Activity setting. If you navigate to another page or start a new chat, check the indicator again rather than assuming the previous choice carries over.
Manage the floating chat
The Gemini panel can be minimized while you continue reading, reopened from its floating control, resized and closed. Use the chat box’s new-chat control when you want a separate conversation rather than continuing the existing context. Closing the panel does not change your account’s activity-retention setting; it only ends or hides the current browser interface.
Change Gemini in Chrome permissions
Open Chrome, tap More, choose Settings, then select Gemini in Chrome. The available controls can include automatic browsing and saved permissions for sites where Gemini may sign you in.

Turn automatic browsing on or off
Use the Let Gemini browse for you switch to enable or disable the agent’s multi-step browsing capability. Turning it off prevents that Chrome setting from authorizing automatic browsing tasks; it does not remove ordinary Gemini chat access.
Remove a saved automatic sign-in permission
- In Gemini in Chrome settings, open Sites Gemini can sign you in to.
- Review the sites listed as allowed.
- Select the site whose permission you want to revoke.
- Delete the site entry and confirm if Chrome asks.
Google says Gemini may use Google Password Manager and Sign in with Google only when you give permission. Google also states that it does not share your passwords with Gemini in Chrome or with other sites. Removing an entry stops that saved site permission; it does not delete the site’s account or credentials from your password manager.
Review this list after using automatic sign-in on a shared or unfamiliar site. The list concerns saved permission for Gemini’s sign-in action, not a list of every website where you have a Google account.
Use auto-browse cautiously
Google calls Gemini in Chrome working as an agent “an experimental feature.” Automatic browsing can perform a sequence of actions rather than merely answer a question, so review each requested task and its results. Google warns that you are responsible for the agent’s actions, including errors and unexpected outcomes such as purchases.

These figures describe Google’s documented service limits, not a guarantee that every task will complete. Keep automatic browsing disabled when a task could place an order, change an account, submit a form or otherwise create a consequence you have not reviewed.

A safer task routine
- Describe the goal narrowly and avoid giving the agent unnecessary account or payment context.
- Check which tab and site are active before starting.
- Watch for sign-in, checkout, send, publish or submit steps that require your confirmation.
- Stop the task if the result, destination or information shown is unexpected.
- Turn the feature off when you are finished with a task that could have consequences.
Open and review Gemini Apps Activity
Gemini Apps Activity is the account-level record of saved Gemini use. It is separate from the Gemini in Chrome menu.
From the Gemini Android app
- Open the Gemini app.
- Tap Menu.
- Tap your profile picture or initial.
- Select Gemini Apps Activity.
From a browser on Android
- Open gemini.google.com and sign in.
- Tap Menu.
- Choose Settings & help.
- Tap Activity.
The page shows the activity controls for the signed-in account. If you use several Google accounts, verify the profile icon before changing or deleting anything. The account shown in Gemini can differ from the Chrome profile you were using, so check both when troubleshooting an unexpected history entry.
Delete Gemini activity at the scope you need
From Gemini Apps Activity, Google provides several deletion ranges. Choose the smallest range that solves your problem when you need to preserve other conversations.

Follow the deletion prompt after selecting a range. Deleting a conversation with a Gem does not delete the Gem itself. Deleting a shared chat also does not delete the public link that was created for that chat; anyone who already has that link may still be able to use it according to the link’s sharing status.

Which deletion choice should you use?
Use an individual-item deletion for one accidental prompt, a specific day or custom range for a focused cleanup, and “all activity” only when you intentionally want to clear the complete history covered by the account. Deleting history is different from disabling the Chrome feature, and it is different from revoking a site’s sign-in permission.

On the Gemini Apps Activity page for a personal account, use the control near the top and choose Turn off or Turn off and delete activity. The first option stops future saving; the second also starts the deletion flow for existing activity.
Keep Activity is on by default for users aged 18 and older. Turning it off does not create immediate zero retention. Google says conversations may remain associated with the account for up to 72 hours so it can provide the service and process feedback. During that period, the activity will not appear in Gemini Apps Activity.
This means an empty activity list immediately after switching the control is not proof that every service copy has vanished. The documented window is up to 72 hours, and the control is intended to stop future saving rather than provide an instant deletion guarantee.
Work and school accounts can behave differently. A Google Workspace administrator may control whether activity is saved and how long it is retained, so an end user may not be able to change the setting or may see organization-specific wording.

Instead of turning Keep Activity off, you can set an automatic deletion window near the top of Gemini Apps Activity. Google says activity older than 18 months is deleted automatically by default. The available choices are:
- 3 months
- 18 months
- 36 months
- No auto-delete
Select a period, continue through the confirmation screens and verify that the new value is shown on the activity page. The setting governs future cleanup; it is not a substitute for deleting a specific conversation immediately. If you need a shorter retention period, choose 3 months and separately delete older entries now rather than waiting for the next automatic cycle.
Control audio and Gemini Live improvement
Gemini Apps Activity contains a separate setting for whether audio and Gemini Live videos or screenshares may be used to improve Google’s services, including training generative-AI models. Google says this option is off by default.

To change it, open Gemini Apps Activity, locate the audio and Live improvement setting, read the opt-in explanation and follow the confirmation flow. Keep Activity must be on before this option can be enabled. Turning the option on is a separate consent decision from keeping text activity, so review both settings rather than assuming one controls the other. If Keep Activity is off, the improvement control cannot be enabled until activity saving is turned back on.

Feature controls versus data controls
Use the choice that matches the outcome you want:

Making these distinctions prevents a common mistake: turning off one feature and assuming every related record or permission has also been removed.
What to check when a control does not behave as expected
“Gemini in Chrome” does not appear
Check the rollout, region, age, Android version, RAM, English device language, Chrome update and sign-in state first. Also confirm that you are not in Incognito and that an administrator has enabled the feature for a managed account.
The Gemini panel shows the page even though you expected privacy
Look inside the active chat box and tap Stop sharing. Page sharing is a chat-level choice and is enabled by default when a Gemini in Chrome conversation starts.
You turned off Keep Activity but still worry about recent conversations
The documented service-retention window is up to 72 hours. The activity can remain associated with the account during that period while it is absent from the activity list. For older records, use the specific deletion range or the “Turn off and delete activity” option.

A work account will not let you change retention
Workspace administrators can manage activity settings and retention for organization accounts. Contact the administrator rather than repeatedly changing controls in a personal profile.
A deleted shared conversation is still reachable
Deleting the conversation does not delete its public link. Treat link sharing as a separate exposure: remove or restrict the shared link using the sharing controls available for that conversation.
Automatic browsing performed an unwanted action
Disable Let Gemini browse for you, review the affected site’s account and order history directly, and change any credentials or permissions that may have been exposed. Because Google classifies the agent as experimental and places responsibility for its actions on the user, do not leave it enabled for tasks you cannot supervise.
The setting changed on the wrong account
Check the profile image or initial in both Chrome and Gemini before making changes. Activity deletion applies to the signed-in Gemini account, while browser permissions are shown in the Chrome profile where you opened Settings.

A practical review sequence
- Open Chrome’s Gemini in Chrome settings and decide whether the browser feature itself should be available.
- Review Let Gemini browse for you and remove any site entries under Sites Gemini can sign you in to that you no longer trust.
- Start a test chat only when you are comfortable with the current page being shared, or tap Stop sharing first.
- Open Gemini Apps Activity in the app or web interface and inspect the account and recent entries.
- Choose whether to delete selected records, set 3-, 18- or 36-month auto-delete, or turn Keep Activity off.
- Review the separate audio and Live improvement consent before enabling it.
- For a managed account, confirm which choices are controlled by the Workspace administrator.
These controls let you manage feature access, current-page sharing, future activity saving, existing records and organization-admin restrictions independently.
