Start with Kindle’s reading settings: adjust the text size, boldness, spacing, brightness and display theme, then see what feels comfortable in your room. The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro also has an optional Nanomatte display that Amazon describes as anti-glare, but you do not need a special screen to try the software adjustments.
Adjust Kindle’s text and page layout first
In Kindle, look for controls for font type, font size and boldness, along with margins and line spacing. Larger text or more space between lines may make it easier to follow a page. Change one setting at a time and read for a while before changing another, so you can tell which adjustment suits you.
Amazon documents these Kindle reading controls, but the precise location and availability can vary by app version. Look in the reading display or page settings rather than relying on a menu path that may not match your version.
Try the Reading Ruler
Kindle also documents a Reading Ruler, a focus aid for following lines of text. If it is available in your Kindle app, compare it with the standard page view and keep the option that makes it easier to track your place.

Compare Kindle’s three display themes
Amazon says Kindle on the new Alexa Tablet lineup offers three themes: warmer natural color, a softened paper tone and grayscale. Try each while reading ordinary text. These are presentation choices, not a universally best setting; comfort depends on the reader and the reading environment.
Set brightness for the room
Use Kindle’s brightness control to match the screen to the surrounding light. Amazon does not prescribe a particular brightness level, so adjust it by reading in the conditions where you normally use the tablet. A setting that works in a bright room may not feel right in a dim one.

Choose between the standard and Nanomatte displays
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is offered with a standard display or an optional Nanomatte display. Amazon describes Nanomatte as an anti-glare surface made with precision etching, intended to reduce reflections while retaining detail and color accuracy. That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent head-to-head comfort test or a guarantee that it will resolve an individual’s reading discomfort.

Amazon’s October 9, 2026 announcement listed US launch prices of $499.99 for the standard configuration and $549.99 for Nanomatte. Prices and availability can change; check Amazon’s announcement and current product listing before buying. Amazon announced purchase availability from October 9 and shipping from October 14 in the US, Mexico and Canada, with shipping from October 19 in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain.

The announced 12 Pro specifications are a 12-inch display, 280 PPI, 120Hz refresh rate and 3:2 aspect ratio. Those figures describe the screen; they do not establish an eye-health benefit.
Check accessibility tools on the tablet itself
The Alexa Tablet 12 Pro runs Android and has access to Google Play, according to Amazon. Amazon’s published Font Size and Screen Magnifier directions, however, are for Fire tablets. Its Fire OS 5-and-later guidance describes magnification gestures such as triple-tap to zoom, two-finger panning and pinching to change magnification; those exact menus and gestures are not verified for the 12 Pro.

On the 12 Pro, check the tablet’s own Settings for accessibility options and follow the instructions shown on the device. Do not assume the Fire tablet path—Settings > Accessibility—or its gestures apply unchanged to this Android model. Amazon’s Fire tablet accessibility guide also lists High Contrast Text, Color Correction and Color Inversion, but their availability on the 12 Pro is not established.
Consider listening, but verify Alexa+ compatibility
Amazon’s Kindle Assistive Reader help page describes reading Kindle books aloud, with controls for pause and resume, chapter or time navigation, and playback speed. The same page explicitly says Assistive Reader is not available on Alexa+. Do not assume it will work on the Alexa+ tablet; check the feature’s current compatibility information on the device before relying on it.

What these adjustments can—and cannot—promise
These controls let you change how text and images appear and how the page is presented. Amazon’s product announcement does not establish that any setting or display configuration prevents eye strain or improves eye health, and its anti-glare description is not a clinical claim. Treat the options as ways to personalize reading, not as medical advice or a guaranteed remedy.
