In an unmodded game, you can sometimes start a pedestrian fight by provoking one NPC and maneuvering the agitated character into another pedestrian. The result is an emergent interaction rather than a guaranteed mechanic: the pedestrians may trade blows, run away, attack you instead, or attract police.
For repeatable brawls on PC, use the Random Fight Events [.NET] 2.0 Overhaul in Story Mode. It requires Script Hook V and either Script Hook V .NET 3 or Script Hook V .NET Enhanced (SHVDNE). The mod can automatically create fights involving two to six participants and can also be configured for manual spawning.

Choose between an improvised fight and a PC mod
Your best method depends on whether you want a quick experiment or a reliable event generator. The unmodded approach needs no installation and works on any platform, but it is inconsistent and gives you little control. The documented repeatable approach is for the PC version of GTA V in Story Mode and requires third-party script files.

| Method | Platform | Repeatability | Control over fighters and weapons | Setup effort | Police or player-aggression risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Provoke and redirect pedestrians | PC, PlayStation and Xbox | Inconsistent; outcomes vary by crowd, position and NPC behavior | Very little control | None | High enough to matter; NPCs can turn on you and police may respond |
| Random Fight Events [.NET] 2.0 Overhaul | PC Story Mode | Repeatable automatic or manual spawning | Supports two to six fighters, team fights, free-for-alls, melee weapons and occasional firearms | Install Script Hook V, a compatible .NET runtime and two mod files | Depends on the spawned encounter; retaliation, fleeing, surrender and police consequences remain possible |
Neither method is a supported GTA Online technique. Keep the experiment in Story Mode, and do not use third-party scripts in GTA Online.

How to make pedestrians fight without cheats or mods
This method relies on the game’s ordinary pedestrian reactions. It can work when one NPC becomes hostile and an attack or shove reaches a second NPC, but there is no universal button sequence that forces every pair of pedestrians to fight.
Set up a suitable crowd
- Find two pedestrians standing or walking close together. Busy streets, plazas and other populated areas give you more opportunities than an isolated sidewalk.
- Check the surroundings before you start. Traffic, a nearby police presence, narrow spaces and hostile animals can create additional reactions that make the result harder to observe.
Agitate the first pedestrian
- Lightly bump or strike one pedestrian. The goal is to trigger an agitated response, not to create a large chain of violence immediately.
- Give the first NPC a moment to react. The character may confront you, move away or become aggressive. If the pedestrian simply leaves, choose another pair and try again.
Move the angry NPC toward the second person
- Keep the agitated pedestrian near the second NPC. Reposition yourself so the angry character’s attack or shove can connect with the other pedestrian.
- Move out of the immediate contact area once the two NPCs are close. Staying in the middle can cause both characters to redirect their aggression toward you instead of each other.
Observe the result
- Watch from a short distance. The pedestrians may exchange blows, flee, or ignore one another after the initial contact.
- If police arrive, leave the area or accept the wanted-level consequences. Continuing to strike people while officers are present can escalate the situation.
The interaction is best understood as an emergent possibility. The available documentation does not establish a guaranteed sequence for every platform, pedestrian pair or location.
What can happen during an unmodded attempt
Several outcomes are normal, and none proves that you performed the setup incorrectly:

- This game will no longer support Windows 7 or 8 operating systems starting January 30, 2024.
- A short fight: the second NPC responds to the shove or hit, and the two characters trade a few attacks.
- One or both NPCs flee: fear, traffic or the presence of a weapon can end the interaction before a brawl develops.
- Both NPCs attack you: because you caused the original disturbance, the pedestrians may treat you as the common threat.
- Police attention: assaults in public can draw officers and produce wanted-level consequences.
- No transfer of aggression: the first pedestrian may remain focused on you, or the contact may not register as an attack on the second NPC.
Try a different pair if the first attempt fails. The unmodded game does not expose a setting that locks two pedestrians into combat, so repeating the same input in the same spot is not a reliable way to force success.
How to install a repeatable PC solution
Random Fight Events [.NET] 2.0 Overhaul is the documented option for automatically generating NPC brawls in GTA V Story Mode on PC. Its listing says the same RandomFightEvents.dll works with both GTA V Legacy and Enhanced. The listing was updated on 27 September 2026, so check the current files and compatibility notes before installing after a game update.
Confirm the requirements
- A PC copy of GTA V with access to Story Mode.
- Script Hook V.
- Either Script Hook V .NET 3 or Script Hook V .NET Enhanced (SHVDNE).
- The mod files
RandomFightEvents.dllandRandomFightEvents.ini. - A
scriptsfolder in the GTA V installation directory, or the ability to create the folder if your script setup does not already have one.
The documented setup is not a PlayStation or Xbox workflow. Console players should use only the informal unmodded experiment and should not expect the same encounter behavior.

Install the runtime and mod files
- Install Script Hook V according to its current PC instructions.
- Install either Script Hook V .NET 3 or Script Hook V .NET Enhanced. Use a runtime compatible with your GTA V edition and with the current Script Hook V release.
- Open the GTA V installation directory and locate the
scriptsfolder. - Copy
RandomFightEvents.dllandRandomFightEvents.iniinto that folder. Keep the filenames unchanged. - Launch GTA V and enter Story Mode. The listing says automatic encounters are enabled by default.
Do not place these files in a GTA Online installation workflow. Keep a backup of your saves and maintain a clear separation between Story Mode mod files and any files used when launching Online.

Automatic spawning
With the default configuration, the script checks once per minute and has a 20% chance of creating an encounter during a check. After a successful automatic spawn, it imposes a minimum three-minute gap before another automatic event. These settings mean that an encounter is not expected every minute: the check is periodic, the chance is probabilistic, and the cooldown applies after a success.
Leave the game in Story Mode and allow enough time for the checks to occur. If you move constantly between areas, interrupt missions or reload before a check, you may see fewer events than the default settings would otherwise produce.

- This Certified Refurbished product is tested and certified to look and work like new. The refurbishing process includes functionality testing, basic cleaning, inspection, and repackaging. The product ships with all relevant accessories, a minimum 90-day warranty, and may arrive in a generic box.
Manual spawning
- Open
RandomFightEvents.iniin a text editor. - Set
ManualSpawnEnabled=true. - Save the file and reload the script as required by your installed setup.
- Press F5 in Story Mode to request a manual spawn. If F5 conflicts with another script or keyboard layout, change the
ManualSpawnKeyvalue in the INI file.
Manual spawning gives you a direct way to test the script instead of waiting for the automatic one-minute checks. The listing documents F5 as the default key and identifies ManualSpawnKey as the configurable replacement.
What Random Fight Events can create
The mod listing describes several encounter types rather than one fixed duel:

Different group sizes
Automatic encounters can contain two to six fighters. A two-person clash is the smallest event; larger groups can become crowded and harder to follow, especially near traffic or other ambient events.

- Grand Theft Auto V for PC features a range of major visual and technical upgrades to make Los Santos and Blaine County more immersive than ever. In addition to vastly increased draw distances, running at 60FPS with the ability to display visuals in 4K resolution, players will experience a range of additions and improvements including:
- New weapons, vehicles and activities Additional wildlife Denser traffic New foliage system Enhanced damage and weather effects, and much more
- All these features are enhanced by stunning resolution, dramatic improvements to lighting, shadows, and textures, and a smooth frame-rate. Grand Theft Auto V is physical boxed item and hence it is not activated on steam.
Teams and free-for-alls
The script supports team fights as well as free-for-all brawls. In a team encounter, participants can have opposing sides; in a free-for-all, each fighter may target other participants independently.
Bystander reactions
Nearby pedestrians may watch, cheer, film or join the fight. Passing drivers may honk and can occasionally intervene. These reactions can enlarge an encounter after it begins, so the number of visible characters may exceed the original fighter count.
Weapons and behavioral outcomes
Encounters can use melee weapons and may occasionally involve firearms. The listing also describes surrender, fleeing and retaliation behaviors. A spawned event therefore does not guarantee a fistfight: a participant can give up, run away, retaliate against another character or escalate with a weapon.
Troubleshoot a fight that does not appear
The unmodded method never starts a brawl
- Use two pedestrians who are genuinely close together rather than trying to bridge a large gap.
- Use a light bump or strike, then guide the agitated NPC toward the second person. A distant shove cannot transfer aggression.
- Step away after contact so the characters have room to react and are less likely to focus on you.
- Try another crowded location or another pair. The behavior is variable and is not guaranteed for every NPC.
The mod does not load
- Verify that GTA V is running in Story Mode on PC.
- Confirm that Script Hook V and either SHVDN 3 or SHVDNE are installed and compatible with your GTA V edition.
- Check that both
RandomFightEvents.dllandRandomFightEvents.iniare directly inside thescriptsfolder. - Make sure the filenames and extensions were not changed by a download or text editor.
- Review compatibility after a GTA V update. Third-party scripts can stop working when the game or its scripting interfaces change.
Automatic events seem too rare
The defaults check once per minute, use a 20% chance at each check and enforce a minimum three-minute gap after a successful spawn. Waiting through the check interval and cooldown is therefore part of the documented behavior. Enable manual spawning if you need an immediate test.
Manual spawning does nothing
- Confirm that
ManualSpawnEnabled=trueis saved in the active INI file. - Reload the script after changing the setting.
- Use the configured key; F5 is only the default, and another script may already use it.
- Test in Story Mode after confirming the runtime and DLL are loaded.
Safety, saves and platform limits
Use the mod only in Story Mode and keep a backup of your saves. Third-party scripts can become incompatible after GTA V updates, so preserve a clean copy of your game files and be prepared to remove or update the script if Story Mode stops loading correctly.
The documented repeatable workflow is PC-only. No supported PlayStation or Xbox procedure is established for this setup, and console users should not assume that a PC script or its configuration can be transferred to their platform. On any platform, public violence can bring police attention, and either the improvised NPCs or spawned fighters may redirect aggression toward the player.
Quick Recap
Which approach should you use?
- Choose the unmodded experiment if you want a quick, no-install test, are playing on a console, or only need to see whether two nearby pedestrians react to one another.
- Choose Random Fight Events on PC if you want repeatable encounters, automatic spawning, manual F5 tests, groups of two to six fighters, team battles or free-for-alls.
- Keep expectations realistic with either method: NPCs can flee, surrender, retaliate, involve bystanders or draw police, and neither approach guarantees a controlled one-on-one fistfight every time.
