The dependable way to keep Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 controllers available between sessions is to charge them regularly, not to search for an undocumented power-saving switch. Nintendo rates Joy-Con 2 for up to 20 hours of continuous use, but says actual duration varies with the software and the actions performed with the controllers.
You can charge the controllers while they are attached to a Switch 2 that is connected to its AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode. For detached controllers, Nintendo documents the separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip (model BEE-010). A full charge takes approximately 3.5 hours. Is there a setting that makes Joy-Con 2 last longer?
Nintendo’s reviewed support material does not identify a Joy-Con 2 setting that extends the controller’s charge. Do not rely on advice that promises a guaranteed runtime increase by changing an unlisted option. The documented way to be ready for longer play is to recharge the controllers and to investigate abnormal battery behavior when it occurs.
A charging accessory also cannot change the capacity of the built-in battery. The Charging Grip gives you another place to charge detached Joy-Con 2 controllers; it is not a higher-capacity battery pack and does not turn one charge into a longer-lasting charge.
Charge Joy-Con 2 while attached to the Switch 2

- Attach each Joy-Con 2 controller to the corresponding side of the Switch 2.

Charge detached controllers with the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip
The separately sold Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip is model BEE-010. Nintendo documents two ways to power the grip: connect it to the dock with the included USB cable, or connect it directly to the Switch 2 AC adapter.
- Place the Joy-Con 2 controllers into the BEE-010 Charging Grip.
- Connect the grip with its included USB cable to the dock, or connect it directly to the Switch 2 AC adapter.
- Leave the controllers in the grip while they charge.
- Remove them when you need detached controllers, and check each controller’s level in the HOME Menu if you want an approximate reading.
The grip is useful when you want to charge the controllers separately from the console, keep the console in another location, or continue using a detached-controller arrangement while the controllers are stored. It does not extend the individual charge beyond Nintendo’s normal runtime estimate.

Think of the charging method as part of your storage routine. If the controllers are usually attached to the console, attaching them after play creates one predictable charging location. You do not need to move them to another accessory, but the Switch 2 must remain connected to its AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode.

If your household normally keeps the controllers detached, the BEE-010 Charging Grip can serve as their storage and charging location. It can draw power from the dock through the included USB cable, or from the Switch 2 AC adapter directly. That flexibility matters when the dock is occupied, stored elsewhere, or not close to where you play.
Neither arrangement is faster than the other according to Nintendo’s published specifications. Plan around approximately 3.5 hours for a full charge, regardless of which documented route you use. The practical advantage is consistency: returning both controllers to the same charging location makes it less likely that one is forgotten at a low level.

- Review the approximate battery indication shown for each actively paired controller.
- Identify whether one controller is lower than the other before deciding that both need service.
The indication is approximate, so use it as a readiness check rather than a minute-by-minute prediction. If the displayed level seems wrong, or if a controller repeatedly runs out much sooner than expected, move to troubleshooting instead of trying to infer a new runtime from the icon alone.

3. Install the latest Switch 2 system update

The Joy-Con 2 battery is built in. Nintendo’s safety information says not to replace built-in batteries yourself and states that battery replacement must be handled by a qualified professional. Do not open the controller to install a replacement cell, and do not treat a third-party battery swap as a routine battery-life tip.
Self-repair can create safety risks and can make it harder to obtain appropriate service. If charging works but runtime remains unusually short, use Nintendo’s service route instead of disassembling the controller.
