The fastest safe route to money in Euro Truck Simulator 2 is to run Quick Jobs first, invest skill points in Long Distance, choose loads by pay per kilometre, and protect your margin from fines and avoidable costs. Once your income is steady, buy one dependable truck—using savings or a carefully sized loan—and only then add garages and hired drivers.
That order matters because Quick Jobs require no truck or capital, while loans and employees create daily obligations before a young company has reliable cash flow. The exact loan timing is a strategic choice rather than a settled rule: community guides disagree, and no official SCS Software economy documentation establishes one universally optimal amount.

Quick Jobs are the best starting point when your company has no assets. The job uses another company’s truck, so you do not have to purchase, insure, repair or fuel your own vehicle. The Truck Simulator Wiki’s Getting Started information says fuel, tolls and repairs for these jobs are not charged to you. You receive delivery income and experience without exposing a new company to debt or maintenance bills.
Quick Jobs unlock after your first delivery and remain available later, according to the wiki and a player report on the SCS forum. They are therefore not a tutorial-only feature that you must abandon immediately. You can return to them whenever you want to rebuild cash, learn a new route or avoid taking a loan.

Use short jobs to learn, then optimise value
For your first few drives, a route below 100 km is a practical training choice. It limits the time spent learning braking, reversing, junctions and trailer swing while still paying experience and money. Once handling feels comfortable, stop choosing solely by the largest headline payout.
Compare the listed payment with the route distance:
pay per kilometre = total job payment ÷ kilometres
A FandomSpot guide recommends sorting offers by €/km and favouring distances below 400 km when the goal is rapid experience. A short, high-paying job can therefore be better for building levels than a much longer contract with a larger total figure but a weaker return for each kilometre. The right comparison is between jobs currently visible in your market; do not assume a particular cargo or city always wins.
- Use short routes while learning controls and parking.
- After that, rank available offers by €/km, not by the biggest total payout.
- Prefer routes under 400 km when quick experience is more valuable than a single large payment.
- Reject a job whose distance, handling difficulty or deadline creates a meaningful risk of damage, lateness or fines.
Spend early skill points where they increase future income
Skill choices compound because every later job benefits from the capabilities you unlock. The strongest general-purpose opening is Long Distance.

1. Long Distance first
ETS2Hub’s guide, reported as updated in July 2026, recommends levelling Long Distance before specialising elsewhere. Longer available routes create access to higher-paying work and increase the amount earned from each successful trip. The skill is especially useful after you have learned the basics and can complete longer deliveries without repeatedly damaging cargo or missing deadlines.
2. Add cargo skills for bonuses and better contracts
After Long Distance, develop cargo-oriented skills according to the kind of jobs you see and can deliver reliably:
- Fragile Cargo: improves experience from fragile loads. One community guide attributes a +22% XP bonus to the first Fragile Cargo level; treat that percentage as a guide-specific, player-facing figure rather than an official SCS specification.
- Just in Time: adds experience bonuses for time-sensitive work, making it useful when you can consistently meet deadlines.
- High Value Cargo: raises the per-kilometre baseline for premium loads, which can improve revenue once you have enough skill access to take them safely.
- ADR: reserve hazardous-material specialisation for later. It is a more focused path than the broad income and experience gains from Long Distance and the general cargo skills.
Do not spend points merely to unlock a job you cannot execute consistently. A failed or damaged high-value delivery can erase the advantage of a premium contract. Build the broad earning base first, then specialise as your driving and cash position become dependable.
Choose the right moment to buy your first truck
Owning a truck changes the business model. You gain more control over available freight and can begin building a fleet, but you also assume purchase, repair, fuel and financing risk. A community guide recommends saving approximately €120,000–€150,000 before buying and waiting until around level 10–12; it suggests a used Volvo FH or Scania as inexpensive, dependable first choices. Those amounts and model recommendations are community advice, not SCS-published requirements.
There is no single agreed trigger. Some players take a loan after only a few early transports, while others wait until roughly level 10–15 and purchase from savings. The best decision depends on whether your current jobs already produce predictable surplus after all operating costs.

Inspect a used truck’s total cost
A low purchase price is not the same as a low operating cost. Before accepting a used vehicle, account for immediate restoration and any repairs required to make it dependable. The purpose of the first truck is consistent completed deliveries, not the highest specification on the showroom list. A reliable, affordable vehicle that keeps you moving is more valuable than a cheaper purchase that repeatedly consumes cash in the workshop.
Understand the loan disagreement before borrowing
Community advice on ETS2 loans conflicts substantially. One guide recommends waiting for roughly €120,000–€150,000 in savings and level 10–12. An older guide advocates borrowing about €400,000 after only a few early transports. One player recommends completing up to 10 Quick Jobs before taking the available €500,000 loan, while another describes using €100,000 increments to repay debt in pieces. Forum discussions split between “borrow to accelerate a truck and fleet” and “skip loans until you can hire drivers after approximately 10–15 levels.” None of these figures is an official universal progression rule.
Measure the repayment margin
Loans carry ongoing daily costs. In an SCS forum discussion, one player reported a daily charge of about 5.7K; that is a single player report, not a confirmed rate for every loan, difficulty setting or game version. Use your own finance screen as the authoritative number for your save.
Before borrowing, calculate a conservative daily surplus:

- Run several jobs without counting an unusually large payout as normal.
- Subtract fuel, tolls, repairs, fines and any existing loan charges.
- Leave a reserve for a damaged truck or a low-income day.
- Compare what remains with the new loan’s displayed daily obligation.
- Borrow only if the surplus still covers the payment without requiring every future job to go perfectly.
If a loan payment consumes the money you need to repair your only truck, the loan has made the company less resilient even if it enabled an earlier purchase. A smaller loan or a few more Quick Jobs can produce slower growth but a safer balance sheet.

Protect profit on every delivery
Prevent speeding fines
Speeding fines accumulate and directly reduce margins. Use cruise control on suitable stretches, especially when a route is long enough for small speed errors to occur repeatedly. The goal is not merely to avoid one ticket; it is to prevent a series of penalties from turning a good €/km contract into a mediocre one.
Park precisely when the risk is acceptable
A freight-market guide reports a +4% bonus for precise parking. Take the bonus when you can complete the manoeuvre without damaging the trailer or missing a deadline. If a difficult parking attempt is likely to cause damage, the potential bonus is not worth the repair bill or lost cargo value.
Keep a maintenance reserve
Your own truck makes repairs and fuel your responsibility, unlike Quick Jobs. Set aside part of each payment before treating the remainder as spendable profit. This reserve is what lets you accept the next contract after an unexpected workshop visit instead of returning to a loan or selling assets.

The starting garage holds only one driver—you—according to an SCS forum response. Expansion is therefore a separate investment, not an automatic early upgrade. A Steam community guide, unaffiliated with SCS, reports a €180,000 cost for a garage or headquarters slot upgrade in another city and says the expansion adds three slots. Because SCS has not officially confirmed that figure in the available material, check the price shown in your own game before planning around it.
Use the recruitment system deliberately
Recruitment agencies appear in the menu only after you have driven past them. If the agency option is missing, explore and pass the agency location rather than assuming your save is broken.

A racinggames.gg driver article reports a one-time €1,500 hiring fee. It also notes that rookie drivers may barely break even at first. Treat a new employee as a slow investment: the driver needs time and suitable work before becoming a meaningful source of profit.

Do not hand a worn used truck to a new driver without checking it
Community advice warns against assigning hired drivers used trucks that need immediate restoration after their first contract. Inspect the vehicle’s condition and keep enough money for repairs before assigning an employee. Otherwise, your first expansion can produce a workshop bill instead of additional income.
A practical progression plan
Deliveries 1–3: learn without capital
- Complete the first delivery to unlock Quick Jobs.
- Choose a sub-100-km route while learning braking, turns and reversing.
- Use the job list to compare payment per kilometre.
- Keep fines and damage at zero whenever possible.
Deliveries 4–10: build a cash and XP base
- Continue Quick Jobs and favour efficient routes below 400 km when rapid XP is the priority.
- Put skill points into Long Distance first.
- Add Fragile Cargo, Just in Time or High Value Cargo as your available work and driving confidence justify them.
- Use cruise control where appropriate and practise precise parking without risking cargo.
After the early levels: decide between savings and debt
- Check your average surplus after operating costs, not just your largest completed payout.
- Compare that surplus with the loan payment displayed by your bank.
- If you can save, target roughly €120,000–€150,000 before a first truck, as one community guide suggests.
- If you borrow, start with one reliable truck and retain an emergency reserve rather than spending the entire facility.
Once owner-operator income is stable: add capacity
- Complete enough owner-truck jobs to establish consistent earnings.
- Visit recruitment agencies so they appear in the recruitment menu.
- Buy or expand a garage only when the reported €180,000-scale cost will not consume your repair reserve.
- Hire cautiously, remembering the reported €1,500 one-time fee and the slow break-even period for rookies.
- Assign sound trucks and monitor whether each driver is covering its costs before adding another.
Common mistakes that slow a new company
- Choosing only by total payout: a large number can conceal a poor €/km return and a long exposure to fines or damage.
- Taking the largest loan immediately: debt grows faster than a young driver’s dependable revenue.
- Buying a garage before the first truck is profitable: an empty or underused expansion ties up cash that could protect the core operation.
- Counting a rookie driver’s first contract as profit: early hired-driver results can be close to break-even.
- Ignoring truck condition: a cheap used vehicle can require immediate restoration, particularly if assigned to a new employee.
- Speeding for every minute saved: repeated fines erase the margin you were trying to gain.
- Assuming a guide’s number is universal: the €180,000 expansion figure, €1,500 hiring fee, approximately 5.7K daily loan charge and +4% parking bonus are player-reported or guide-reported values, not confirmed SCS specifications.
- Relying on money-making mods: mods are not required to earn money, and some are incompatible with one another. The core progression works without them.
How to recover when cash flow turns negative
You cannot cover a daily loan cost
Stop expanding and return to Quick Jobs if they are available. Select efficient, manageable routes, avoid fines and use the income to rebuild a reserve. Do not add a garage or driver until the existing obligation is covered by ordinary—not exceptional—deliveries.
A hired driver is not profitable
Give the driver time to develop, but first check the assigned truck’s condition and the ongoing costs attached to it. If the vehicle needed restoration immediately, repair it before judging the employee’s long-term performance. Add no further drivers until you know whether the current one is improving.
Your own truck has become a cash drain
Prioritise essential repairs and temporarily use Quick Jobs to protect cash. A functioning, modest truck supports recovery better than a damaged vehicle kept on the road solely because it was expensive to buy.

Fast growth is not the same as the largest possible loan or the most trucks on the earliest date. It means increasing income while keeping enough liquidity to absorb an ordinary repair, fine or weak contract. Quick Jobs remove capital risk; Long Distance and carefully selected cargo skills raise the earning ceiling; one dependable truck creates control; and hired drivers scale only after their costs can be supported. That sequence is slower than an all-in expansion for a few in-game days, but it is less likely to force a restart when revenue temporarily falls short.
