Use the Yandex Disk mobile app’s Offline feature. Select files or folders, choose Offline, and Yandex Disk downloads device copies that remain openable without an internet connection. Android and iPhone/iPad use different controls. A computer cannot use this mobile Offline section; cloud-only files on a computer require internet access.
What Yandex Disk’s Offline feature does
Offline access is a deliberate download of selected Yandex Disk items to your phone or tablet. The files appear in the app’s Offline area and can be opened when the device has no connection. You choose what to keep locally rather than downloading the entire disk.
The offline copy is separate from the cloud original. Removing an item from Offline, or clearing the Offline section, deletes the copy stored on the mobile device but leaves the original in Yandex Disk. You can download the item again later while connected.

It is not a promise that edits made in another application will synchronize automatically. Synchronization settings and the way the file was edited determine whether changes return to Yandex Disk.

Android: save files or folders for offline use
1. Select the items
Open the Yandex Disk app and browse to the file or folder you need. Select one item, or select several files if you want to prepare a group for the same trip or outage. Selecting a folder makes its contents available through that offline item, subject to the storage space on the device.
2. Tap Offline
With the items selected, tap Offline at the top of the screen. Yandex Disk marks the selected entries as offline and starts downloading them to the device. Keep the app connected until the download has completed, especially for large folders or files.
3. Open the saved copy later
To reach the downloads, open Files and choose Offline in the top bar. The Offline area lists the items that the app has stored locally. Open them from there when the phone is in airplane mode or otherwise disconnected.

If your cellular plan is limited, check the Yandex Disk app’s setting for offline downloads. The setting determines whether downloads are allowed over any network or only over Wi‑Fi. Choose Wi‑Fi-only when you want to prevent a large offline folder from consuming mobile data; allow any network only when you accept that downloads may use cellular data.
Android limitations to plan for
Android’s offline search searches only the folder that is currently open. It does not search files inside that folder’s subfolders. Before disconnecting, open the folder in which you expect to work and note the navigation path to the offline item. If the file is nested several levels deep, navigate there while connected instead of relying on a broad search later.

iPhone and iPad: save files or folders for offline use
Save one item
In the iOS or iPadOS Yandex Disk app, swipe a file or folder row and tap Offline. The app downloads that item and makes it available in the Offline section.
Save several items together
To prepare multiple files at once, select the items and tap Offline at the bottom of the screen. Leave the device connected while the downloads finish. Selecting a folder is useful when the same set of documents, photos, or media must be available together.
Find the downloads
Open the Offline section from the app’s bottom navigation. This section shows the items saved on the device and is the place to open them without an internet connection.
Remove one or more items
Select the offline items and tap Offline again to remove them from the section. This releases the local copies while preserving the originals in your Yandex Disk account.
Clear every offline copy
To remove the entire local collection, open Settings, choose Clear offline, and confirm. Clearing the section affects only copies on that iPhone or iPad; it does not delete the cloud files.

Keeping offline copies current
If an offline file is changed on another device, Yandex Disk updates the copy on your phone after that phone reconnects to the internet. The update cannot occur while the device remains disconnected, so connect before a trip if you need the latest version.

Yandex notes that changes may not sync automatically when synchronization is disabled in the Disk app. In that situation, download the file, make the change, and upload the changed copy manually. Verify the uploaded version in Yandex Disk before deleting the local working copy.
A reliable edit workflow
- While connected, confirm that the file has finished downloading to Offline.
- Open the file from the Offline section, rather than from a cloud-only location.
- If another application edits or exports a new copy, save the result where you can identify it clearly.
- Reconnect to the internet and check whether Yandex Disk synchronization is enabled.
- If the changed file does not appear in the cloud, upload it manually and confirm the cloud copy before removing local files.
What happens on a computer
Yandex’s FAQ states that you cannot work offline with files when using a computer; offline access is provided through the mobile app. The desktop help explains the practical consequence: files and folders stored only in the cloud need an internet connection.
Therefore, marking a file Offline on an Android phone or iPhone does not make that same cloud-only item available in the computer interface without connectivity. If you must use a computer during an outage, arrange a separate local copy while connected and work within the computer’s normal file system. The Yandex Disk mobile Offline section itself is not a desktop offline mode.
Why a file may not become available offline
A shared file refuses to download
The owner of a shared file may have disabled downloads. In that case, you cannot force an offline copy from your account. Public files can also face temporary restrictions after being downloaded many times in one day. Try again later if the restriction is temporary, or ask the owner for a permitted copy.

The download is slow
Check the network connection first. Yandex recommends closing other applications that are using the internet, which can free bandwidth for the Offline download. For a large folder, use a stable Wi‑Fi connection and leave the app open until the item is fully downloaded.
The item is missing when you are disconnected
On Android, make sure you are looking in the folder that contains the item; offline search does not look through subfolders. Reconnect, navigate to the intended folder, and confirm that the item is marked Offline before disconnecting again. On iPhone or iPad, open the Offline section from the bottom navigation rather than searching the normal cloud view.
A newer version is not showing
The phone must reconnect before Yandex Disk can update its offline copy from a change made elsewhere. If you edited the file in another app, check that Disk synchronization is enabled. When it is disabled or the change is not detected, upload the edited copy manually.
The phone is running out of storage
Offline files consume local device space. Remove individual items you no longer need, or clear the Offline section on iOS and iPadOS. These actions delete only local copies, so the originals remain in Yandex Disk and can be downloaded again when needed.
Storage, connectivity, and privacy planning
- Estimate local space: choose only the folders needed for the period you expect to be disconnected. A folder’s contents, not just its visible top-level entry, contribute to device storage.
- Finish downloads before departure: select the items while connected, wait for them to appear in Offline, and open a few representative files to confirm they work.
- Choose the right network policy: use Wi‑Fi-only downloads when cellular data is costly or capped; permit any network only when speed is more important than data usage.
- Prepare navigation: on Android, open the relevant folder before going offline because search will not discover files in its subfolders.
- Protect the device: offline copies are stored on the phone or tablet. Use the device’s passcode and normal screen-lock protections, particularly for confidential documents.
- Plan for updates: reconnect periodically if another person or device may change the files, so the local copies can refresh.
A practical checklist before disconnecting
- Install or open the Yandex Disk mobile app and sign in to the account containing the files.
- Identify the exact files or folders required without relying on a later broad search.
- Select them and use the platform-specific Offline control.
- Stay connected until the downloads complete; use Wi‑Fi if the files are large or your mobile plan is limited.
- Open the Offline section and test several files while still connected.
- On Android, open the folder path you will need because offline search is folder-scoped.
- Reconnect before working on files that may have changed elsewhere.
- After editing in another app, verify synchronization or upload the changed copy manually.
- When space is needed, remove unneeded offline items rather than deleting the cloud originals.
Common questions
Does saving a file Offline delete it from Yandex Disk?
No. Offline saves a device copy. Removing that copy or clearing Offline leaves the original in your Yandex Disk cloud storage.

Can I save an entire folder?
Yes. Select the folder and use the Offline control. The folder’s contents then need enough space to download to the mobile device.
Will an offline file update automatically after someone edits it?
After the phone reconnects, Yandex Disk can update the offline copy from changes made on another device. Edits made through another application may require synchronization to be enabled or a manual upload.
Can I use Yandex Disk offline on my computer?
Not through the service’s mobile Offline section. Yandex says cloud-only computer files require an internet connection.
Why can’t I download a shared item?
The owner may have disabled downloads, or a public file may be under a temporary download restriction after heavy activity. Those permissions and limits are controlled outside your Offline setting.
