To make an Enigmatica 9 server, install 64-bit Java 17, download the Enigmatica 9 server pack that exactly matches your client release, extract it into a dedicated folder, run the pack’s supplied setup script, accept the Minecraft EULA, and then configure access. Enigmatica 9 is a Forge modpack for Minecraft 1.19.2, so every player and the server must use the same Enigmatica 9 release.
Plan for more memory than a vanilla server. The Enigmatica 9 CurseForge description says to allocate at least 6 GB to Minecraft, while the Enigmatica Modpacks installation guide gives 4 GB as a baseline for five to seven players. Treat those figures as starting points rather than guarantees: loaded chunks, view distance, world size, player count and other services can raise the requirement.
What you need before installing
A compatible Minecraft installation
Enigmatica 9 targets Minecraft 1.19.2 and uses Forge. The server pack, launcher profile and every client connecting to it need the same pack release. A server running one release with clients on another can fail during the handshake, reject connections or produce missing-mod errors.
64-bit Java 17
The Enigmatica Modpacks Java documentation states: “All Enigmatica modpacks require 64-bit Java.” For Enigmatica 9, use a 64-bit Java 17 runtime. On Windows, the guide directs users to Temurin 17 LTS. On Ubuntu or Debian, install the distribution’s OpenJDK 17 runtime:

java -versionThe version command should report Java 17 and a 64-bit runtime. Do not use a 32-bit Java installation: it cannot address enough memory for a large modpack server. If several Java versions are installed, make sure the supplied server script resolves to Java 17 rather than an older or newer default.
A dedicated, writable server machine
Create a separate directory for the server instead of extracting files into a general Downloads folder. The directory must be writable by the account that runs Java and must have room for the extracted pack, libraries, logs, configuration files and world growth. Keep the server on fast local storage when possible; world saves and chunk generation create sustained disk activity.

Leave system memory for the operating system and background services. Never assign every gigabyte of a host to Java. A machine that also runs backups, a desktop session or other game services needs additional headroom beyond the amount assigned to Minecraft.
Choose the matching Enigmatica 9 server pack
Download the server archive from the Enigmatica 9 files page on CurseForge. Select the server pack release that exactly matches the client pack your group will install. Do not assemble the mods manually from individual project pages; the server archive contains the intended libraries, configuration and startup files for that release.
The CurseForge listing used for this guide identifies Enigmatica 9 Server 1.27.0 as its latest listed release, dated May 28, 2026. Release numbers change, so check the files page when you install and record the selected version in your server notes. A 1.27.0 server must be paired with the 1.27.0 client pack, not simply with the newest client available later.

Install the server files
- Make the server folder. Create a path such as
C:GamesEnigmatica9on Windows or/opt/enigmatica9on Linux. Give the running user read and write access. - Download the release-matched server ZIP. On the Enigmatica 9 CurseForge files page, choose the server file for the same release selected for clients.
- Extract the archive completely. Preserve the directory structure. Do not run Java against a ZIP file or move only the visible mods folder; scripts, libraries and configuration files are part of the installation.
- Open the extracted folder. Read the included instructions and identify the setup/start script supplied with that release. The filename can differ between releases and operating systems, so use the file included in your archive rather than copying a filename from another version.
- Run the supplied script once. On Windows, launch the provided batch or setup script from the server directory. On Linux, run the supplied shell script from that directory; if Linux reports that it is not executable, grant execute permission to that script and run it again. The first run may install libraries and create configuration files.
- Read the first-launch output. Watch the console and log for the EULA message, Java errors or missing-file errors. Do not delete files that the setup process has generated unless the release instructions specifically direct you to do so.
Accept the EULA and complete the first launch
A normal first launch creates an eula.txt file and stops or pauses until the license agreement is accepted. Read Mojang’s Java server EULA, then open that file and change the value to eula=true only if you agree to it:
eula=trueSave the file and run the same supplied server script again. The second launch should continue with Forge and the modpack, generate the world directory and create the remaining configuration files. Stop the server from its console with the normal stop command when you need to edit files or move the installation; closing the terminal or killing Java can corrupt a world save.
Configure the new server
Basic gameplay settings
After the first successful launch, stop the server cleanly and open server.properties. Set the options that match your group:
- Choose a server name or MOTD so players can identify it in their list.
- Set difficulty and default game mode before players begin the world.
- Choose view distance and simulation distance conservatively. Higher values increase chunk loading, memory use and CPU work.
- Keep the world seed and level name documented if you need to reproduce or restore the world.
- Enable the whitelist if the server is private, then add each player’s Minecraft username.
Restart after changing properties that are read only at startup. Keep a copy of the configuration outside the live folder so you can compare settings after a pack update.
Operators and permissions
Grant operator status only to trusted administrators. Use the server console’s operator command or the permission mechanism provided by the pack, then test that the intended account can perform administrative actions. A whitelist controls who may join; operator status controls what an admitted player may do, so they solve different problems.

Make the server reachable
Local-area network play
For players on the same home or office network, give them the server machine’s local IP address and the port configured in server.properties. Ensure the host firewall allows Java or the configured server port on the private network profile. A local address is not reachable from the public internet.
Internet play from a self-hosted machine
- Assign a stable local address. Reserve the server computer’s address in the router or configure a suitable static address so forwarding does not break after a reboot.
- Allow the port through the host firewall. Create an inbound rule for the port used by the server and restrict the rule to the appropriate network profile where your operating system supports that distinction.
- Forward the same port on the router. Map the router’s external port to the server machine’s local address and internal port. Router menus differ by manufacturer, so follow that router’s port-forwarding terminology.
- Test from outside your network. Have a friend connect using your public address, or test from a phone using cellular data. Testing only from inside the same LAN can hide forwarding or carrier-grade-NAT problems.
Some internet providers do not offer a publicly reachable address, and some routers place customers behind carrier-grade NAT. In that situation, ordinary port forwarding cannot make the server public; use a hosting provider or a networking solution designed for that limitation.
Install the exact client pack for every player
Each player needs Minecraft Java Edition for PC, a Forge 1.19.2 profile and the same Enigmatica 9 release used by the server. The safest approach is for everyone to install the client pack through the same launcher workflow and verify the release number before connecting.
- Compare the client pack version with the version recorded in the server notes.
- Do not add, remove or update individual mods on one client unless the pack release explicitly requires it.
- Use the same configuration files when the server pack supplies client-side configuration that affects compatibility.
- When a player sees a missing-mod, registry or channel-mismatch message, confirm the pack version before changing network settings.
How much RAM does Enigmatica 9 need?

There is no published universal upper limit for an Enigmatica 9 server. A lightly used private world may remain stable near the lower baseline, while a busy world with many loaded chunks can need more. Watch the server console for repeated garbage-collection pauses, tick-time warnings or out-of-memory crashes. Lower view and simulation distance and remove unnecessary concurrent services before assigning nearly all host RAM to Java.
Self-hosting or managed hosting?

Self-hosting suits an administrator who wants maximum control and is comfortable maintaining Java, Linux or Windows, firewalls, routers and backups. A managed host is simpler when players need a public server quickly or nobody wants to expose a home network. Backups, updates and routine maintenance
Back up the world before changes
Choose a backup frequency that matches how much progress your group can afford to lose. Stop the server cleanly before copying the world and configuration files. Keep at least one copy separate from the machine running Java; a disk failure, mistaken deletion or ransomware event can destroy local copies together.
When practical, restore a backup into a spare directory and start it separately to confirm that the archive is usable. A backup that has never been tested is only an assumption.

- Announce a maintenance window and stop the server normally.
- Create and verify a fresh world backup.
- Read the target Enigmatica release notes and download its matching server pack.
- Extract the new pack into a new directory rather than overwriting the working installation.
- Carry forward only the configuration and world data that the release instructions say to preserve.
- Start the new server, inspect the log for errors and test with an administrator account before inviting everyone back.
- Update every client to the identical release.
Keep the previous server directory until the new world has been tested. Do not downgrade a world casually: modded worlds can change data formats, and a rollback may require restoring the entire pre-update backup.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server stops immediately with a Java error
Run java -version from the same account and environment used by the start script. Confirm that it reports 64-bit Java 17. Correct the system path or edit the supplied script’s Java path if it selects another installation. Do not solve a memory error by switching to a 32-bit runtime.
The console says the EULA has not been accepted
Stop the process, open the generated eula.txt, read the agreement and set eula=true only after accepting it. Save the file in the server directory and rerun the supplied script. Editing a different copy of eula.txt will not change the active installation.

Players receive a mod or registry mismatch
Compare the server’s recorded release with the client launcher profile. Reinstall the exact Enigmatica 9 client release and Forge 1.19.2 if necessary. Remove manually added or updated mods and do not mix a newer client with an older server.

First test from the host machine and then from the same LAN. Check that the server is listening on the configured port, the operating-system firewall permits it and the router forwards that port to the correct local address. If local connections work but outside connections fail, investigate the public address, router forwarding and carrier-grade NAT with your internet provider.
The server runs out of memory or becomes unresponsive
Check the Java allocation and leave RAM for the operating system. Reduce view and simulation distance, limit simultaneous chunk loading and stop unrelated services. If the problem continues, move to a machine with more physical memory or a managed plan with a larger allocation. Increasing Java’s limit beyond the host’s available memory makes the host less stable rather than fixing it.
A world appears damaged after an update
Stop the server and preserve the current directory for diagnosis. Restore the pre-update backup into a separate test directory, confirm which pack release was running, and follow that release’s migration instructions. Never overwrite your only backup while experimenting with a rollback.
