To play Minecraft survival VODs in a chosen order and start again at the first video when the last one ends, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source. Add the files to its playlist in sequence, turn off Shuffle Playlist, and turn on Loop Playlist. Then connect OBS to YouTube Live using the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio.
Before you start
- Have the Minecraft VOD files stored on the computer that will run OBS, and make sure you have permission to rebroadcast their video and audio.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS says VLC must also be installed for the VLC Video source to be available; match the 64-bit VLC installation to 64-bit OBS when applicable. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Make sure your YouTube account is eligible to livestream. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup instructions. Account verification and standing requirements also apply; check YouTube Help for current eligibility.
Set up an ordered playlist in OBS
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the Minecraft VOD stream.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. Give the source a recognizable name and confirm.
- In the VLC Video source properties, add the video files to the playlist in the exact order you want them to play. If the order is wrong, rearrange the list before starting the broadcast.
- Confirm Shuffle Playlist is off. Confirm Loop Playlist is on. OBS documents shuffle as off and looping as on by default, but check the actual controls rather than relying on defaults. Looping restarts the source when it runs out of media files.
- Click OK, then inspect the scene preview. Check that the video fits the canvas and that the audio is routed as intended.
- Before going public, test playback through the end of one file, through the transition into the next, and from the final file back to the first. A local preview helps catch ordering, audio, and playback problems before viewers see them.
For a single video, OBS’s standard Media Source can loop one file. Use VLC Video when the stream needs a playlist of multiple files. OBS documents both source types in its Media Sources guide.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live, then create or select the stream in the Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s stream settings. YouTube explains that the key lets the platform accept the encoder feed and identifies where it should be sent. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. See YouTube’s stream settings guide.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube as the service and enter the stream URL and key if OBS presents those fields. If the current OBS interface offers a YouTube account connection instead, follow its prompts and verify that the selected stream is the intended one.
- Apply the settings and start streaming from OBS. Wait for the incoming preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room; check the video, audio, stream title, description, and privacy setting. Start or confirm the broadcast in the Live Control Room as appropriate for the stream setup. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in its encoder setup guide.
Check rights, stream length, and archives
Use VODs you are allowed to rebroadcast
Owning a recording does not necessarily mean you have permission to retransmit everything inside it. Check the rights for gameplay footage, music, overlays, and any other included material. YouTube’s live-streaming policies and copyright rules still apply to prerecorded videos played through an encoder. This setup does not determine whether a particular VOD is licensed or safe to broadcast.
Do not assume a long stream will be archived
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. The cited guidance does not promise the same archive behavior for broadcasts longer than 12 hours, so check YouTube’s current instructions if you plan a longer session.

Keep the stream running: local OBS or cloud
Local playback with OBS
With OBS, the files play from the computer running the stream. That gives you direct control of the playlist, but the computer and its connection need to remain available while you want the broadcast to continue. OBS is a software encoder; YouTube’s encoder instructions describe software and hardware encoders, so a dedicated hardware encoder is not inherently required.

VLC Video is missing from the Sources menu
Install VLC, then restart OBS and check the source menu again. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source; on a 64-bit setup, match VLC’s architecture to OBS’s.

The files play in the wrong order or shuffle
Reopen the VLC Video source properties, arrange the playlist in the intended sequence, and verify Shuffle Playlist is disabled. Do not assume the default remained unchanged.
The playlist stops after the last VOD
Open the source properties and enable Loop Playlist. That setting tells the source to restart after it runs out of media files.

YouTube does not show an incoming preview
Check that OBS is streaming, the selected YouTube stream is the one you intended, and the stream URL and key match that stream. If you have just enabled livestreaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours; confirm account eligibility and standing in current YouTube Help.
The preview appears, but the public stream is not live
Review the stream’s privacy and status in the Live Control Room, then follow the on-screen steps to start or confirm the broadcast. An encoder preview is not by itself confirmation that the stream has been made public.

The stream ends or the archive is missing
For a local OBS setup, check that the computer, OBS, source files, and network connection remain available. For an archive, note that YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; it does not establish the same behavior for longer broadcasts.
