Running a modpack with friends? Godlike.Host offers modded Minecraft server hosting with one-click modpacks (CurseForge, FTB, Technic) and free DDoS protection.
Use the author’s dedicated Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip to host this pack. The project is built for Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge, so the server and every player’s client must use that Minecraft version, the matching Forge loader, and the same modpack files.
For a self-hosted server, download the server ZIP, extract it into its own folder, run the included launcher or Forge server command, accept Mojang’s EULA if you agree to it, configure server.properties, and then expose the selected port to your friends. A managed Forge host can perform much of this setup through a control panel instead.

What the pack server runs
CurseForge project metadata identifies Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse Pack as a Forge project for Minecraft 1.16.5. The author, sneak, describes it as a conversion of Minecraft into an all-out zombie apocalypse and lists these features:
- Zombie-themed armor and weapons
- New generated structures and world generation
- Custom zombies and animations
- Vehicles and guns
- Unique items and additional content
CurseForge lists a dedicated Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip. That server artifact was uploaded July 10, 2024, and its listed size is 464.9 MB. Downloading the dedicated server package is safer than assembling a server by copying files from a client installation because it is intended to contain the server-side mods, configuration, scripts, and libraries together.

Compatibility checklist before installation
Confirm these items before you create a world. A mismatch can prevent startup or disconnect players even when the server itself launches.
| Item | Required choice | What must match |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft | 1.16.5 | Every client and the server must use 1.16.5. |
| Mod loader | Forge | Use the Forge build expected by the pack and install it on both sides. |
| Pack files | The same Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse release | Clients need the same mods and compatible configuration as the server. |
| Java runtime | A runtime compatible with Minecraft 1.16.5 Forge | Use the runtime required by your Forge distribution and verify it on the machine that will host the server. |
| Network | A reachable address and open listening port | Friends outside your home network also need router and firewall access to that port. |
Do not assume that a newer Minecraft release, Fabric, or an unrelated Forge build will work. The official project information establishes 1.16.5 and Forge; it does not establish support for newer versions or other loaders.
Choose local hosting or a managed host
Local hosting
Running the server on your own computer gives you complete control over the world, configuration, backups, and installed files. It uses hardware and electricity you already have, but you are responsible for Java, Forge, updates, firewall rules, router forwarding, backups, and a changing home IP address.
Managed hosting
A managed host supplies a datacenter endpoint and a control panel. It can reduce manual Java and Forge work, provide easier scaling, and sometimes include backups or DDoS protection. You pay a recurring fee and still need to confirm that the provider supports this exact 1.16.5 Forge pack, allows custom server files, and offers the locations and cancellation terms you need.
| Decision point | Home server | Managed server |
|---|---|---|
| Control | Full access to files and configuration. | Control-panel access subject to the provider’s limits. |
| Connectivity | Depends on upload bandwidth, router configuration, firewall rules, and public-IP changes. | Uses a datacenter address maintained by the provider. |
| Maintenance | You maintain Java, Forge, backups, security, and updates. | The provider may automate installation, monitoring, backups, and resizing. |
| Cost | No hosting subscription, but the computer and electricity have a cost. | Recurring charges; check current prices directly before ordering. |
| Scaling | Limited by the host computer’s CPU, memory, and connection. | Plans can usually be resized more easily. |
Option 1: Build the server on your own computer
1. Prepare a dedicated server folder
Create a new folder used only for this server, such as a directory on a drive with enough free space for the 464.9 MB archive, extracted libraries, logs, and the generated world. Do not extract over an existing vanilla world or another modpack. Keeping each server isolated makes backups and troubleshooting much easier.

- ULTIMATE COLLECTION — Includes Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition, five Bedrock add-ons, five exclusive Character Creator items, and 1000 Minecoins.

- EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.
- SURVIVE THE ADVENTURE — Face mysterious foes, travel across exciting landscapes, and venture into perilous dimensions.
- PLAY TOGETHER — Play cross-platform with friends in Bedrock Edition on console, mobile, and PC, or join community servers in Java Edition on PC, Mac, and Linux. Online console multiplayer requires a platform-specific subscription (sold separately).
Install the Java and Minecraft environment appropriate for Minecraft 1.16.5, then install the matching Forge server version. The exact installer filename and Java requirement can vary with the Forge distribution you use, so follow the Forge installer’s instructions and check that the server process reports the expected Forge and Minecraft versions before adding players.
2. Download and extract the official server archive
Download the file named Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse SERVER.zip from the pack’s CurseForge file listing. Extract the complete archive into the dedicated directory. Keep the extracted mods, config, scripts, libraries, and any other files together; do not move only the mods folder into a different server installation.
On Linux or another Unix-like system, preserve script permissions when extracting. If the operating system marks a supplied script as non-executable, use the shell or file permissions to make that script runnable rather than replacing it with a command copied from an unrelated modpack.
3. Inspect the supplied launcher
Look at the extracted files before the first launch. The archive may include a Windows batch file, a shell script, a Forge launcher file, or a short readme. Use the launcher supplied with this archive whenever possible. Script names and the exact Forge server filename can differ between distributions and operating systems, so a command copied from another pack may point to the wrong file or runtime.
If you must launch manually, use the exact Forge server file and arguments identified by the extracted distribution. Do not guess a filename, delete libraries, or combine this pack with files from a different Forge installation.

4. Start once and handle the EULA
Run the supplied launcher from inside the server directory. A first launch may stop after creating files such as eula.txt, server.properties, a world directory, logs, and Forge libraries. Read Mojang’s EULA yourself. Only if you accept it should you open eula.txt and change the setting to eula=true. Save the file, then start the same launcher again.
If the process exits before creating an EULA file, read the console and latest log first. A missing Java runtime, an incorrect Forge file, a permissions problem, or a damaged extraction must be fixed before changing unrelated settings.
5. Configure server.properties
Stop the server cleanly before editing configuration. Open server.properties in a plain-text editor and change only the settings you understand. Keep a copy of the original file so you can restore it if a setting causes an unexpected result.
| Setting | Use | Practical advice |
|---|---|---|
server-port |
The TCP port on which the server listens. | Choose an unused port, then use that same port in the firewall and router rule. |
difficulty |
Controls the game’s difficulty. | Choose the level that suits your group and the pack’s survival focus. |
view-distance |
Controls how many world chunks the server sends to clients. | Lower it if CPU, memory, or upload bandwidth becomes a bottleneck. |
| Gameplay settings | Controls other vanilla server behavior exposed by the file. | Change deliberately and document changes so all administrators know what was altered. |
Make configuration changes while the server is stopped. Some settings are read only at startup, and editing files while the world is being written can risk data loss.

6. Start the server and verify the console
Launch again with the supplied script. Wait for the console to indicate that the server has completed startup and is listening. Warnings about optional features may be harmless, but errors mentioning missing mods, failed dependencies, Java, a bound port, or a corrupt file require attention before anyone connects.

Join locally first if possible. A local test confirms that the Forge server can load the pack, generate a world, and accept the matching client before you add router configuration and external players to the problem.
7. Make it reachable from the internet
- Allow the selected server port through the computer’s operating-system firewall.
- In the home router, forward that port to the host computer’s local IP address. Reserve the computer’s local address if your router supports DHCP reservations, so the forwarding rule does not point to the wrong device later.
- Start the server and verify that it is listening on the selected port.
- Give friends your reachable public address and port. Do not publish your home address publicly or expose administrative services that the game server does not require.
- Ask a friend outside your home network to test the connection. A successful local connection does not prove that internet forwarding works.
Home hosting can fail when the internet provider changes your public IP, blocks inbound connections, or places the router behind carrier-grade NAT. In those cases, a managed host or a network arrangement that provides an inbound address may be simpler than repeatedly changing game files.

Install the matching client pack
Every player needs a client instance for Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge and the same Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse files. The dedicated SERVER.zip is for the server; do not assume that dropping the server folder into a launcher creates a correct client.
GDLauncher documents this client workflow:
- Create a new instance in GDLauncher.
- Select Minecraft 1.16.5 and the Forge loader.
- Open the instance’s Addons area.
- Paste the quick-install ID
#sneaks-zombie-apocalypse-pack. - Download the pack and its dependencies.
- Start the instance once, then confirm that the launcher reports Minecraft 1.16.5 and Forge before connecting.
Have every player use the same pack release that the server administrator installed. If one player updates a mod independently, removes a dependency, or uses a different Forge build, the server may reject the connection or behave unpredictably.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Memory and performance planning
The pack includes custom entities, animations, structures, world generation, vehicles, guns, and other content that can load more heavily than an unmodified Minecraft world. Performance depends on player count, view distance, world activity, CPU speed, storage, and the host operating system; the archive’s size is not a RAM requirement.
Best Value
- Play and share with friends on console, mobile and Windows 10
- discover community creations in the new in-game store
- access new mini games and game modes through servers
ServerPrism currently publishes plans from 2 GB through 128 GB and says that many groups use 6–8 GB for a smooth multiplayer experience on its service. That is a provider recommendation, not an independently tested universal minimum. Treat it as a starting point, watch actual memory use and tick performance, and adjust view distance or the hosting plan when your group size and settings require it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Start with a conservative view distance and raise it only after checking performance.
- Keep the server on fast, reliable storage and avoid running heavy unrelated applications on the same machine.
- Watch console warnings, tick delays, and player reports during combat or large exploration sessions.
- Back up the world before changing mods, configs, or Forge versions.
Managed hosting: what to verify
ServerPrism advertises automatic matching Forge installation for this exact pack. If you consider that or another provider, confirm the details in writing before paying; a host that supports generic Forge does not automatically support every 1.16.5 modpack.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact pack and loader support | Confirm Minecraft 1.16.5, the required Forge build, and the Sneak’s Zombie Apocalypse server files are accepted. |
| RAM and CPU allocation | Memory alone does not determine performance; CPU speed and sustained capacity affect world generation and entity-heavy fights. |
| Import method | Verify whether you can upload the official SERVER.zip, install through a catalog, or edit files through a control panel. |
| Backups and restores | Check schedule, retention, storage location, and whether a restore can be performed without opening a support ticket. |
| DDoS protection and network location | Choose a region close to most players and understand what traffic protection is included. |
| Scaling and cancellation | Read upgrade, downgrade, refund, and cancellation terms before committing to recurring billing. |
Do not buy a larger plan solely because a provider lists a high memory number. Begin with a plan appropriate for your player count and settings, then use monitoring and measured connection quality to decide whether more resources are justified.
Troubleshooting common failures
The server stops immediately
- Read the first error in the console and the latest log rather than repeatedly restarting.
- Confirm that the Java runtime is compatible with the installed 1.16.5 Forge server.
- Check that the archive was fully extracted and that the launcher is running from the server directory.
- Restore the original scripts or libraries if files were moved, renamed, or replaced.
Players receive a mod or Forge mismatch error
- Verify Minecraft 1.16.5 on both client and server.
- Verify Forge on both sides, including the loader build expected by the pack.
- Compare the client’s mods and dependencies with the server’s extracted files.
- Remove manually added mods and reinstall the pack through the documented launcher workflow if the instance has drifted.
The EULA message appears on every start
Stop the process, open the EULA file in the actual server directory, and confirm that the setting is exactly eula=true only if you accept the EULA. If the setting keeps reverting, you may be editing a different folder from the one used by the launcher, or the account running the server may not have permission to write the file.
Friends cannot connect, but local play works
- Confirm the server is running and listening on the selected port.
- Check the operating-system firewall and router forwarding rule.
- Make sure the forwarding rule targets the host computer’s current local IP.
- Check whether the internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT or blocks inbound traffic.
- Have friends use the public address, not the host’s private LAN address.
The world lags or runs out of memory
- Reduce
view-distanceand test again. - Limit simultaneous exploration while new terrain and structures generate.
- Close unrelated applications and monitor CPU, memory, and storage usage.
- Increase resources only after confirming that the bottleneck is real; provider recommendations such as 6–8 GB are not universal guarantees.
A script will not run
Use the script intended for your operating system and execute it from the extracted server directory. On systems that enforce executable permissions, restore the permission or invoke the script through the appropriate shell. Do not download a replacement script from another pack because its Forge filename and arguments may differ.
Backups, updates, and safe administration
Stop the server cleanly before copying the world, config, mods, and server-property files. Keep at least one backup away from the live server machine and label each backup with the date and the Forge or pack version. Test a restore on a separate directory before relying on the backup.
When updating, record the current pack and Forge versions, back up the world, apply the change to a copy, and let the server complete a test startup before replacing the live installation. Require every client to update to the same files at the same time. If the new build fails, restore the previous server directory and matching client files rather than mixing old and new mods.
Keep administrator access limited to trusted people, avoid sharing operating-system credentials, and never edit world or configuration files while the server is writing them. These practices matter more for a modpack server because a single mismatched file can affect startup, world generation, and every player’s connection.
