You can make a Galaxy Z Fold feel much more familiar to an iPhone switcher by simplifying the Home screen, choosing a restrained wallpaper and theme, rearranging lock-screen shortcuts, cleaning up the Quick panel, and tuning navigation with Samsung’s Good Lock tools. These changes affect the launcher, appearance, shortcuts, and animations; they do not install iOS or reproduce every iPhone system behavior.

The best approach is to start with Samsung’s built-in controls, then add Good Lock only where you need finer control. Keep the Fold’s cover-screen continuity, large inner display, multitasking, and Flex mode features instead of hiding the advantages that make it a foldable.

What “more like an iPhone” can realistically mean

There is no supported setting that converts One UI into iOS. Samsung’s customization features change how the phone looks and how you reach common actions, while the operating system, app behavior, notifications, and foldable functions remain Samsung’s. Think of the goal as a preference profile rather than an operating-system replacement.

Samsung describes One UI 7’s design as offering “a simplified home screen, redesigned One UI widgets and lock screen” for customization. That description is about One UI’s own design system, not an iOS conversion.

Check your Fold model and software before changing anything

Menu names and available Good Lock modules vary by generation, One UI version, Galaxy Store market, and region. A tap sequence documented for the Galaxy Z Fold7 may not be identical on a Z Fold5 or Z Fold6.

  1. Open Settings > About phone and note the exact model name and model number.
  2. Open Settings > Software update > Download and install to see whether an update is waiting.
  3. Open the Galaxy Store and check the current version of Good Lock and its available modules for your device.
  4. Back up your current Home-screen layout if your model and software offer that option, or take screenshots of the Home screen, lock screen, and Quick panel before you begin.

Samsung began the One UI 7 rollout on April 7, 2025, with the Z Fold6 included in its schedule. Samsung also stated that timing and availability vary by market. That rollout date does not prove that a particular Fold has One UI 7 today, so use the version installed on your own phone as the deciding factor.

Start with the built-in Home-screen controls

Use native One UI settings first. They are reversible, work with Samsung’s cover and main displays, and do not add another launcher layer.

Choose a restrained wallpaper and theme

On a Fold7, double-tap the cover screen, then pinch on the Home screen to open wallpaper and style controls. From there you can select a wallpaper, adjust the color palette where supported, apply a theme, and reach Home-screen settings. Other Fold generations may expose the same functions through a long press on an empty area of the Home screen or through Settings > Wallpaper and style.

For an iPhone-like visual impression, use one simple background on both displays, avoid highly animated wallpapers, and keep the color palette narrow. A dark, low-detail image also makes a sparse icon layout easier to read. If a downloaded theme changes icons, fonts, or system colors more than you want, switch back to the default theme and change only the wallpaper.

Set a predictable app grid

Long-press an empty area of the Home screen and open Settings or Home screen settings. Choose the grid size that lets you see your most-used apps without filling every space. The exact grid choices differ by model and software, so select the smallest arrangement that still feels comfortable on the narrow cover display.

Move apps by touching and holding an icon, then dragging it to a new position or to another Home-screen page. Keep the first page for daily actions and place less frequent apps in folders or the app drawer. One UI supports moving apps and adding widgets directly to Home screens; you do not have to place every installed app on a page.

Use folders deliberately

Create a folder by dragging one app on top of another, then give it a short name such as “Travel,” “Finance,” or “Media.” Keep folders to a few related apps. A folder that contains dozens of icons recreates the clutter you are trying to remove and is slower to use on the cover display.

Pick widgets for information, not decoration

Touch and hold an empty Home-screen area, choose Widgets, and drag a widget onto a page. Widgets can show information at a glance without opening an app, but each one consumes space and may add visual noise. Start with only the information you check repeatedly, such as calendar appointments, weather, or battery status.

Place a compact widget on the cover-screen Home page and a larger version on the inner display if that is useful. If a widget resizes badly when the Fold opens, remove it and choose a smaller variant; do not force the inner-screen layout to imitate a phone that has only one display.

Make the lock screen and shortcuts familiar

On the Fold7, unlock the phone, then touch and hold the lock screen to edit its clock, wallpaper, widgets, and shortcuts. Samsung’s support instructions also describe reaching wallpaper and style controls by double-tapping the cover screen and pinching. On another generation, use Settings > Lock screen if the long-press editor is not available.

Choose two shortcuts you will actually use

Replace unfamiliar defaults with actions that matter to you, such as the camera and flashlight. If your software permits an app shortcut rather than only a system action, choose one app you open several times a day. Test each shortcut while the phone is locked so you know whether it opens immediately, asks for authentication, or only exposes a limited function.

Keep lock-screen information compact

Use one clock style and only the lock-screen widgets that save a real unlock. A crowded lock screen defeats the clean visual goal and can make notifications harder to scan. Notification privacy settings remain separate from the visual layout; adjust them in the lock-screen notification settings if you do not want message content visible while locked.

Clean up the Quick panel and notification reach

One UI lets you add, remove, and reorder Quick panel buttons. Swipe down from the top of the display to open notifications, then swipe again for the full Quick panel. On Fold7 guidance, swiping from the top corner is used to reach notifications or Quick settings; the precise gesture can differ with your navigation and One UI version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Put high-value controls first

  1. Open the full Quick panel and select the edit control, usually shown as a pencil or an overflow menu.
  2. Remove buttons you never use, such as settings that you would rather reach from the main Settings app.
  3. Move essentials such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, sound, flashlight, airplane mode, and screen rotation into the first page.
  4. Save the arrangement and swipe through it once to confirm that the first row is usable on the cover display.

Do not remove a control merely because it looks unlike an iPhone’s Control Center. Keep anything needed for the Fold itself, including features you use to manage the inner display, multi-window behavior, or screen rotation.

Separate notification cleanup from Quick panel styling

Quick panel editing changes buttons; it does not stop noisy notifications. For persistent clutter, touch and hold the notification, choose its notification settings, and disable only the category you do not need. Leave security, calls, messages, and update alerts enabled unless you have a specific reason to change them.

Use Good Lock Home Up for deeper Home-screen tuning

Good Lock is Samsung’s modular customization suite. Its Home Up module adds controls beyond standard One UI. Samsung’s One UI 7-era Home Up features include DIY screen decoration, control over the favorites row, and Home gesture animations with preset styles and advanced tuning.

Install and open Home Up

  1. Open the Galaxy Store and search for Good Lock.
  2. Install or update Good Lock, then open it.
  3. Find Home Up in the available modules and install or update it.
  4. Open Home Up and review each option before enabling it. Module availability can differ by device, One UI version, and market.

If Home Up does not appear, the absence may reflect regional availability, an unsupported model, or a module version that has not yet been released for your software. Do not install an unofficial package to bypass that limitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hide or change the favorites row

Home Up can provide control over the favorites row, the fixed area that appears across Home-screen pages. Hiding it can create a cleaner, more iPhone-like page with a single consistent grid, while keeping it is better if you need instant access to a few apps on both screens. Test the result on the narrow cover display before committing to a layout that works only on the inner screen.

Add restrained DIY decoration

Home Up’s DIY screen-decoration tools can add stickers or layers to a Home screen. Use them sparingly if your goal is a simple appearance: one small accent is easier to live with than a page full of overlays, and decorative layers can reduce icon legibility. Remove a decoration from the same Home Up editor if it interferes with a widget or folder.

Tune Home gesture animation

Home Up’s Home Gesture Animation section provides four preset transition styles, plus controls for animation speed and vibration where supported. Choose the least distracting preset, then reduce speed if the transition feels slow or increase it if the Home gesture feels abrupt. These settings change the animation and feedback; they do not make Samsung navigation identical to iPhone gestures.

After changing the animation, test three actions on both displays: return Home from an app, switch between recent apps, and open the app drawer. If a gesture is unreliable, return to the default animation and check your navigation mode in Settings > Display > Navigation bar or the equivalent path on your model.

Configure navigation without pretending it is iOS

One UI generally offers gesture navigation and button navigation. Gesture navigation gives a cleaner screen and may feel closer to a modern iPhone, while three-button navigation is easier to learn for people who prefer visible Back, Home, and Recents controls.

Try gesture navigation in a controlled way

  1. Open Settings > Display > Navigation bar.
  2. Select Swipe gestures or the equivalent gesture option.
  3. Use the available gesture sensitivity and hint settings to make the bottom edge comfortable on the cover display.
  4. Open several apps, return Home, and go back one screen to confirm that your case and screen protector do not block the edges.

If you frequently trigger a gesture accidentally, increase the sensitivity threshold or switch to buttons. Familiarity is more valuable than visual imitation, especially when the phone is folded and the cover screen is narrow.

Keep Edge panels useful instead of duplicating the Home screen

Samsung’s Edge panels provide shortcuts from a handle at the side of the display. Open Settings > Display > Edge panels to enable the feature, choose panels, and adjust the handle’s position and transparency. Use one panel for your most frequent apps or contacts rather than enabling every available panel.

Edge panels are particularly useful on the unfolded display, where reaching the Home screen may interrupt a two-app workflow. If the handle gets in the way of a game, drawing app, or keyboard, move it to the opposite side, reduce its visibility, or disable it. An iPhone-like clean screen is not worth losing a shortcut you genuinely use.

Set up the cover and main displays as one experience

The Fold’s two screens are a feature to preserve, not a mismatch to hide. Samsung documents continuing an app from the cover screen to the main screen, choosing what happens when the device closes, using Multi window and app pairs, and adjusting Flex mode behavior.

Choose how apps continue when you unfold or close

Open the Fold display settings and look for the option that controls app continuation between the cover and main screens. Decide whether an app should continue automatically, ask each time, or stop when you close the phone. Automatic continuation is convenient for maps, messages, and reading; stopping is better for apps where you do not want content visible on the cover display.

Test the setting with a non-sensitive app first. Then test a message or banking app with the phone locked and unlocked so you understand what remains visible and when authentication is required.

Create app pairs for common two-app tasks

Use Multi window to place two compatible apps together, then save the combination as an app pair if your software offers that command. A pair such as calendar and email can open together on the inner display while the cover screen remains a quick single-app interface. App support varies, so an app that refuses split screen cannot be forced into a pair through Home-screen styling.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use Flex mode where it solves a real problem

When the Fold is partly open, Flex mode can move controls or show a layout suited to the angled device. Check Settings > Advanced features and the Fold-specific display or Flex mode controls on your model. Keep the feature enabled for video calls, camera work, or hands-free viewing if it helps; disable an individual app’s Flex behavior only when the split layout is consistently inconvenient.

Use a case for appearance, not software imitation

A case matched to your exact Fold generation can change the phone’s exterior color, texture, and grip. It cannot change One UI, navigation, notifications, or iPhone system behavior. Check that the case does not cover the cover-screen edge, interfere with wireless charging, block the hinge, or make the fingerprint sensor and volume buttons difficult to reach.

Consider a third-party launcher only after the native setup works

A third-party launcher can provide a different icon grid, app drawer, and Home-screen style. It changes the launcher layer, not the underlying operating system, Quick panel, lock-screen system, or foldable hardware behavior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

No particular launcher should be treated as guaranteed for every Fold generation. Before installing one, check its current support notes for your model and One UI version, test whether it handles separate cover and main-screen layouts, and verify that edge-swipe gestures, app continuation, widgets, and app pairs still work. Also confirm that you can switch back to Samsung’s Home app in Settings > Apps > Choose default apps > Home app if the new launcher causes problems.

Use a launcher only if the built-in Home screen and Home Up controls cannot deliver the visual arrangement you want. The extra layer increases troubleshooting options and may not reproduce iPhone system animations or controls.

Compare the available routes

Route What it changes Setup effort Fold-specific considerations Best use
Built-in One UI settings Wallpaper, theme, app placement, widgets, lock screen, Quick panel, Edge panels Low; changes are easy to reverse Uses Samsung’s native cover/main-screen behavior Everyone’s starting point
Good Lock Home Up Favorites row, DIY decoration, Home gesture animation presets and tuning Moderate; module availability varies Check support for your model and installed One UI version More control without replacing Samsung Home
Third-party launcher Launcher layout, icon presentation, and app-drawer experience Moderate to high; compatibility testing required Verify cover-screen layouts, gestures, widgets, and app continuation A different visual style when native tools are insufficient
Protective case Exterior color, texture, grip, and protection Low; choose the exact Fold generation Must not obstruct the hinge, cover display, or controls Cosmetic change and physical protection only

These routes differ in scope. Built-in settings affect the most useful basics, Home Up adds Samsung-specific refinement, a launcher changes only the Home experience, and a case changes the hardware’s appearance rather than its software.

Troubleshoot the common failure points

The menu or module is missing

Confirm the exact model and One UI version, update the phone and Galaxy Store apps, and check whether the feature is available in your market. Samsung’s rollout and module availability can vary by region. A Fold7 support instruction should not be assumed to apply unchanged to a different generation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The layout looks good on the inner screen but awkward on the cover

Reduce the number of columns, move large widgets to the inner display, and test the first Home page while folded. Keep the cover screen for quick actions and reserve dense dashboards for the unfolded display.

Gestures trigger accidentally or fail near the edge

Remove or reposition an Edge-panel handle, check navigation sensitivity, and test the phone without the case or screen protector briefly. If the problem remains, use three-button navigation; a reliable control scheme is preferable to an imitation that causes missed taps.

A launcher breaks widgets or app continuation

Switch back to Samsung’s Home app, remove the launcher, and restore your saved or photographed layout. Reinstall only after checking current Fold support and testing with non-sensitive apps.

The phone feels slower after animation changes

Return Home Up’s animation to its default preset and speed, then restart the phone. If performance remains unusual, disable recently added Good Lock modules one at a time to identify the change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A practical setup sequence

  1. Record your model, One UI version, and current layout.
  2. Update the phone and verify which Good Lock modules are available in your Galaxy Store.
  3. Choose one wallpaper and a restrained theme.
  4. Set a comfortable Home-screen grid, move daily apps to the first page, and create only useful folders.
  5. Add a small number of information widgets and test them on both displays.
  6. Edit lock-screen shortcuts and verify their behavior while the phone is locked.
  7. Remove unused Quick panel buttons and reorder the controls you reach most often.
  8. Adjust Edge panels so they help rather than cover content.
  9. Install Home Up if you need favorites-row, decoration, or gesture-animation controls.
  10. Set cover-to-main continuation, app pairs, and Flex mode around your actual routines.
  11. Use a third-party launcher only after the native setup meets your needs and you have confirmed Fold compatibility.
  12. Live with the arrangement for several days, then change one setting at a time so you know which adjustment helped.

What you should keep from the Fold

A cleaner visual style does not require giving up the Fold’s strengths. Keep quick cover-screen access for short tasks, use the main display for reading and multitasking, save app pairs for repeated two-app work, and use Flex mode when the partially open device is genuinely more convenient. The result should feel familiar at the surface while remaining a Fold underneath.
