To run a Medieval MC [FABRIC] MMC2 multiplayer server, download the MMC2 server pack that matches your modpack version, use a Fabric server for Minecraft 1.20.1, follow the Java version stated in that pack’s own README or start script, and allocate at least 5,000 MB of RAM. The most important mistake to avoid is installing the client pack on the server: client-only mods can prevent the server from starting.
You can either assemble the server on your own computer or rent a one-click installation. The manual route gives you control over files, configuration and updates; a managed host removes most of the installation work but still requires every player to use the matching MMC2 client version.

Medieval MC [FABRIC] MMC2 is a Fabric modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1, published through Modrinth and CurseForge by LunaPixelStudios. “MMC2” identifies the Fabric 1.20.1 line; it is not a generic name for every Medieval MC edition. Your clients and server must use the same Minecraft version, loader family and modpack release.
CurseForge’s listing identifies Medieval MC [FABRIC] 1.20.1 v31 as the latest release in the available listing, with a separate “MMC2 v31 Server Pack” shown as dated November 21, 2025. Treat that date and version as the current reference only if the listing still shows v31 when you download it. Older files, including v30 and v7, are also present, so selecting the newest file without checking its type can produce a mismatched installation.

Choose the correct pack before installing anything
Use the dedicated server pack
Download the file explicitly labelled MMC2 v31 Server Pack (or the server-pack label for the exact version you intend to run). A client profile and a server pack are not interchangeable. The client profile may contain display, menu, shader or other client-only mods that have no place in a dedicated server environment.
Match the release on every computer
Write down the exact release number you select, such as v31. Every player should install that same MMC2 release, not merely “Medieval MC 1.20.1.” If the server is v30 and a player launches v31, the mod lists, configuration files or world data can differ even though both use Minecraft 1.20.1.

Open the downloaded archive and look for its README, start script and the supplied mods and config directories. The README is the authority for the pack’s Java requirement and launch procedure. Do not replace the supplied script with a command copied from a different version until you have checked the files in your archive.
Server requirements and planning
Memory
CreeperHost’s listing gives this pack a 5,000 MB minimum RAM requirement. That is a hosting listing, not a guarantee that every world, player count or configuration will run well at exactly that allocation. Start at or above that amount and watch the server log and operating-system memory use during exploration and world generation. If the Java process reports an out-of-memory error, stop the server and increase the allocation only if the machine has sufficient free memory.

CPU
The same CreeperHost listing specifies a minimum of two 4.5 GHz CPU cores. CPU performance matters during chunk generation, entity-heavy areas and the first launch after a large modpack update. A desktop used for hosting also has to run the operating system and, if applicable, a game client, so leave headroom rather than assigning every available resource to Java.
Storage and backups
Reserve space for the mod files, configuration files, logs and an expanding world. Keep at least one backup outside the live server directory. Before changing versions or adding a mod, stop the server cleanly, copy the complete world and configuration directories, and label the backup with the MMC2 release and date.

A self-hosted server must be reachable by the players’ network addresses. Use the port shown in the server’s server.properties; if your router or firewall blocks it, players will see a connection failure even when the server console says it is running. Expose only the port you need, keep the operating system patched, and do not run the server from an administrator account unless your operating system requires it.
Manual setup on your own computer
The sequence below is the practical setup flow for an MMC2 server pack. It combines the normal Fabric-server process with the pack’s expected folder layout, so confirm every filename and Java setting against the README inside your downloaded v31 archive. The pack’s official README, rather than this general sequence, should decide which Java executable and start command you use.

1. Create a clean server directory
- Make a new directory dedicated to this server, such as
Medieval-MMC2-Server. - Do not place it inside the client’s installation directory. Keeping the server separate prevents accidental overwriting of client files and makes backups straightforward.
- Give the directory a stable location with enough free disk space for world growth and backups.
2. Download the matching server pack
- Open the Medieval MC [FABRIC] 1.20.1 files on CurseForge or Modrinth.
- Choose the server-pack file for the release you selected. If you are following the current listing, that is the file labelled MMC2 v31 Server Pack.
- Do not select a file solely because it is the newest item in the list. CurseForge contains multiple historical files, including v30 and v7, and the server pack must match the client release you plan to distribute.
- Save the archive, record its version number, and scan the archive contents before extraction.
3. Read the pack’s README and start script
Before installing Java or Fabric, open the README supplied with the archive. Look for the required Java major version, the expected working directory, memory variables and the name of the launch script. No searched listing establishes a Java version specifically for the MMC2 1.20.1 v31 server pack. Minecraft 1.20.1 is commonly run with Java 17, but that general practice is not proof of this pack’s requirement. If the README specifies another version, use the specified version.
4. Install the stated Java version
- Install a 64-bit Java runtime or JDK that matches the README.
- Open a terminal or command prompt and run
java -version. - Confirm that the reported major version is the one required by the pack. If the command reports an older installation, correct the system PATH or use the full path to the required Java executable in the pack’s start script.
Multiple Java installations are a common cause of confusing failures: the installer may use one version while the start script silently finds another. Check the version from the same account and directory that will run the server.
5. Install or enable Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1
The server must use the Fabric loader for Minecraft 1.20.1. If the server pack includes a Fabric server launcher or installer, use that supplied component. If it does not, install Fabric for exactly Minecraft 1.20.1 into the clean server directory, then follow the pack README’s launch instructions. Do not substitute a Forge server or a Fabric loader built for another Minecraft release.
6. Extract the pack’s server files
- Extract the server-pack archive into the server directory, preserving its folder structure.
- Verify that the
modsdirectory is present and that the pack’s configuration directories, scripts and libraries were copied. - If you created a Fabric server separately, copy the server pack’s
modsandconfigdirectories into that server directory as instructed by the README. - Do not merge files from a different MMC2 release, another modpack or your client’s unrelated instance.
The exact contents of a v31 archive determine whether additional directories must be copied. If the archive contains its own start script, use it instead of inventing a new command.

7. Accept the Minecraft EULA
- Run the supplied start script once. The first launch normally creates the server files and an EULA file before stopping.
- Open
eula.txtand read the linked Minecraft EULA. - If you agree to it, change the setting to
eula=true, save the file, and run the same start script again.
If no EULA file appears, the process may be failing before the server reaches initialization. Read the terminal output and logs/latest.log before changing files.
8. Set memory in the supplied launcher
Configure the start script or host panel for at least 5,000 MB, the minimum quoted by CreeperHost for this pack. Use the variable or setting already provided by the pack rather than deleting its other JVM options. A typical Java launcher uses minimum and maximum heap values, but the correct syntax and filename depend on whether the archive supplies a Windows batch file, a Unix shell script or a host-specific start command.
Do not allocate all physical RAM to Java. The operating system, file cache and any game client need memory too. Increase the allocation only when the machine can support it and the logs show memory pressure.
9. Start and let world generation finish
- Run the pack’s start script from the server directory so relative paths resolve correctly.
- Wait for the console to report that the server has finished loading before connecting.
- Stop the server with its console stop command rather than closing the window, especially after the first world generation.
- Start it again and confirm that the same world, mods and configuration load without errors.
The first launch can take substantially longer than later launches because Fabric and the modpack create caches, configuration files and world data. Do not interrupt it merely because the console pauses for several minutes.

10. Configure players and connection details
Use the generated server.properties and the server console to set the world name, difficulty, whitelist and other options. Give trusted players operator access only when necessary. Share the address and port that your network configuration exposes; players should not guess a different port or use a client release that does not match the server.
Client setup for players
Install the same Minecraft and modpack release
Each player needs Minecraft 1.20.1, the Fabric-based MMC2 release selected for the server and the same mod files. A one-click client installer such as GDLauncher can install the CurseForge pack, but the resulting profile still has to match the server’s release number. If you selected v31 on the server, distribute v31 to every player rather than allowing automatic updates to move some clients to a newer or older file.
Keep client-only settings on the client
Players can adjust graphics, key bindings and other client preferences locally. They should not copy their entire client directory over the server directory. Only the server-pack contents belong on the server, while client launchers manage the client profile.
Diagnose a mismatch before changing the server
If a player is rejected during login, record the exact error and compare the client’s Minecraft version, Fabric loader version and MMC2 release with the server. Reinstalling random mods usually makes the mismatch harder to find. Correct the out-of-date or incorrect client profile first.
Common startup failures and fixes

How to read the logs
The file logs/latest.log records the most recent startup and connection attempt. Search from the bottom upward for the first ERROR, exception name or “Caused by” line; later messages are often consequences. Save the complete log before asking for help, but remove passwords, private addresses and access tokens.
- Out-of-memory errors: review the heap setting and available host RAM.
- Mixin or ClassNotFoundException errors: check for a loader, Minecraft or pack-version mismatch.
- Network errors with a clean server log: investigate the address, port forwarding and firewall rather than reinstalling mods.
- Errors after an update: restore the pre-update backup and verify that every file came from the same server-pack release.
One-click hosting instead of self-hosting
BisectHosting, CreeperHost and Mado Hosting list one-click installation options for this pack. In that model, the provider creates the Fabric 1.20.1 environment and installs the selected modpack through its control panel. Mado Hosting states that its installer configures the Fabric loader and Minecraft 1.20.1 automatically.

One-click installation does not remove version discipline. Select the same MMC2 release for the server and clients, take backups before updates, and read the host’s console log when a startup fails.
