The reliable way to make a Craftoria server is to install the separate Craftoria server pack, run it with the NeoForge loader specified by that pack, and make every player use the identical Craftoria, Minecraft and NeoForge versions. The current documented configuration uses NeoForge 21.1.249, starts with 3 GB of memory and allows up to 5 GB. That baseline is suitable for a small test or lightly populated world, not a guarantee for a large group or a heavily explored world.

You can run the server on your own computer or rent managed hosting. Self-hosting gives you direct control over files, saves, mods and backups, but you must handle Java, installation, networking, updates and restarts. Managed hosting removes most of that maintenance and makes it easier for friends to connect, in exchange for a recurring fee and less control over the machine.

What a Craftoria server is

Craftoria is a Minecraft 1.21 modpack maintained by TeamAOF. It is a large pack—published descriptions advertise more than 500 mods and over 2,000 quests—so a dedicated server has substantially more work to do than a vanilla Minecraft server. Chunk generation, modded machines, mob systems and several players exploring different areas can all increase memory and CPU demand.

A Craftoria client profile and a Craftoria dedicated server are different downloads. The client setup documented by TeamAOF uses the CurseForge App and Git. The server setup uses a separate server-pack archive, a NeoForge installer and generated launch files. Installing the client profile alone does not create a server, and copying a client instance folder into a server directory is not a supported substitute for the server pack.

Choose a hosting approach first

Self-hosting on your own computer

Self-hosting is appropriate when you want full access to the world folder, configuration files and mod list, and when someone in the group can leave the host computer available during play. You are responsible for installing the Java runtime required by the NeoForge build, running the installer, opening network access, making backups and restarting the process after a crash or update. The host also needs enough CPU, memory and disk space for both the server and any game client running on the same machine.

Managed hosting

A managed host supplies a persistent machine and a control panel. The usual workflow is to select Craftoria with a matching server pack, choose a memory plan and region, enter server details and purchase the service. The provider handles much of the Java, file-transfer, restart and hardware work. You still need to select the exact pack release, keep players on matching versions and maintain sensible backups.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Decision point Self-hosted server Managed server
Upfront cost Usually limited to hardware, electricity and your internet connection. Normally no new hardware, but you pay a recurring hosting charge.
Control Direct access to saves, scripts, configs, logs and installed files. Control depends on the provider’s panel and file access.
Networking You must make the server reachable from outside your home network and account for firewall or carrier restrictions. The host normally supplies a public address and connection details.
Maintenance You perform loader installs, updates, restarts, backups and troubleshooting. Automated restarts and one-click tools may be available, but you still manage the pack and world.
Latency Depends on the host’s location and residential connection. You can generally choose a region nearer to the players.
Scaling Limited by your computer’s CPU, memory and upload capacity. Often easier to move to a larger memory plan.
Helping friends install You distribute the exact profile and connection address yourself. CurseForge sharing tools can provide an import link or code for the matching profile.

Prepare the client profile

Do this on every player’s computer, including the host if that computer will also run Minecraft. TeamAOF’s documented client route requires the CurseForge App and Git.

  1. Install the CurseForge App and Git.
  2. Locate the CurseForge Minecraft Instances directory used by your installation.
  3. Clone or download the Craftoria repository into that directory. Keep the repository folder intact rather than scattering its files among other profiles.
  4. Run InstanceSyncSetup.bat from the Craftoria repository.
  5. Open CurseForge, or restart it if it was already running, and confirm that a Craftoria profile appears.
  6. Launch the profile once and verify that it reaches the Minecraft title screen before attempting to join a server.

The repository setup is a client workflow. It does not install the dedicated server files or create a world that other players can join. Those files come from the matching server-pack release.

Match the server-pack release before installing

Open the Craftoria files page and select the server pack that corresponds to the client profile everyone intends to use. A search result lists Craftoria Server 1.37.0 for Minecraft 1.21.1 with NeoForge, dated September 13, 2026. Treat that as a release reference, not a permanent download target: pack authors can publish a newer file, remove an old file or change the recommended loader. Confirm the current file name and its Minecraft/NeoForge metadata immediately before installation.

Install the NeoForge server

Create a dedicated folder such as Craftoria-Server on a drive with ample free space. Avoid placing it inside a synchronized cloud folder or a protected operating-system directory, because file locks and permission prompts can interfere with world saves and generated scripts.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Extract the Craftoria server-pack archive into the empty server folder. If the archive contains a readme or launch configuration, keep those files.
  2. Obtain the NeoForge installer version named by the pack. The checked TeamAOF configuration uses loader 21.1.249.
  3. Open a terminal in the server folder and run the installer with the server-install argument: java -jar neoforge-<version>-installer.jar --installServer. Replace the file name with the installer actually supplied for your release; do not type the angle-bracket text literally.
  4. Wait for the installer to create the NeoForge server files and libraries. If it reports that Java is missing or incompatible, install the Java version required by that NeoForge build and run the command again.
  5. Use the launch script or launch arguments generated by the installer and pack. Do not invent a different loader argument or point the script at a client-only jar.

The exact jar and script names can change between NeoForge and pack releases. The important parts are the server-pack files, the matching loader and the --installServer operation. If the installer creates a new subfolder, run the generated server command from the location indicated by its output or script.

Set memory and start the server for the first time

The supplied Craftoria launch configuration sets Xms to 3G and Xmx to 5G. In practical terms, the Java process begins with a 3 GB heap and can grow to 5 GB. Treat those values as a starting profile, not a universal requirement.

  1. Open the generated launch script or configuration in a text editor.
  2. Confirm that the minimum and maximum heap values are the intended values, such as -Xms3G and -Xmx5G. Preserve the rest of the generated arguments.
  3. Start the server once. The first run may take longer while libraries, configuration files and a world are created.
  4. When the process creates eula.txt, stop the server cleanly, open the file and change the acceptance setting to eula=true only if you agree to Minecraft’s EULA.
  5. Start the same generated command again and watch the console for a message indicating that the server has finished loading. Do not close the terminal window while the server is running.

Keep the server console available during initial testing. It shows missing dependencies, failed mixins, Java errors and out-of-memory events that are not visible from the Minecraft client.

Configure the world and server properties

After the first successful start, stop the server with its console stop command rather than closing the window. Edit the generated server-properties file while the process is stopped, then start it again. Begin with the pack’s defaults; changing several gameplay settings at once makes compatibility problems harder to diagnose.

  • Use an allow-list if the server should be private. Add each player’s Minecraft name through the server console or the supported management interface.
  • Change operator permissions only for trusted administrators. Operator access can alter worlds, run commands and bypass normal restrictions.

Do not copy a single-player save into the server until the clean installation works. If you later migrate a world, stop the server, make a full backup, copy the save into the server’s world location and test it with the same pack release.

Let friends connect to a self-hosted server

The official Craftoria configuration does not document router port-forwarding instructions, and the required screens differ by router, operating system and internet provider. The general sequence is still consistent:

  1. Give the host computer a stable local address, either through a router reservation or another method supported by your network.
  2. Allow the Java server process through the host computer’s firewall when prompted. Create the narrowest rule that permits the Minecraft server rather than disabling the firewall entirely.
  3. In the router, forward the Minecraft server’s listening port to the host computer’s local address. Use the port shown in your server-properties file; do not guess if you have changed it.
  4. Test from outside the home network. A friend on a different connection is a better test than a second device using the same Wi-Fi.
  5. Give players the public address and port, while keeping your router administration credentials and local network details private.

Some residential connections use carrier-grade NAT or block inbound connections. If outside testing fails even though the server works locally, check the router’s forwarding rule, the operating-system firewall and whether your provider supplies a reachable public address. A managed host avoids these home-network requirements.

Make every player’s installation identical

Version mismatches are the most common preventable cause of a Craftoria connection failure. Every player should use the same Craftoria release, Minecraft version, NeoForge loader and mod/config set as the server. A player who updates the client profile while the server remains on an older release can receive a missing-mod, mismatched-channel or incompatible-version error.

  • Share the exact release number and Minecraft/NeoForge versions before anyone launches.
  • Have players close Minecraft and the launcher before replacing or updating a profile.
  • Do not add performance, shader or convenience mods to the shared profile until the unmodified pack connects successfully.
  • If one player gets a mismatch error, compare the profile’s installed-file list with a known-good client rather than repeatedly restarting.

CurseForge documents shareable server links or import codes. When a friend uses one, the CurseForge App can install the matching profile and connection information; the server owner still operates and pays for the server. This is useful for a managed server or for a self-hosted server whose address will remain stable.

How much RAM does Craftoria need?

Use the official launch configuration as the first checkpoint: 3 GB minimum and 5 GB maximum. For a small private test, that may be enough. Larger groups, fast exploration and complex bases need more headroom. One hosting provider’s guidance is 6–8 GB for 1–5 players, 10–12 GB for 5–15 players and 12–16 GB for more than 15 players. Those figures are provider guidance, not a Craftoria guarantee.

Concurrent players Practical starting allocation How to interpret it
1–2 3–5 GB, matching the supplied baseline where possible. Suitable for initial testing and a lightly explored world if the host has additional memory for the operating system and client.
1–5 6–8 GB provider guidance. More comfortable when players explore separate areas or build automation-heavy bases.
5–15 10–12 GB provider guidance. Provides more room for concurrent chunk loading and mod activity.
15+ 12–16 GB provider guidance. Requires testing of CPU, memory, storage and network capacity; RAM alone will not guarantee smooth play.

Never allocate all physical memory to Java. Leave room for the operating system, file cache and any Minecraft client running on the same computer. Increase Xmx only when monitoring shows memory pressure or garbage-collection pauses and the machine has unused RAM. If the server pauses during exploration, also investigate CPU saturation, slow storage and simultaneous chunk generation instead of assuming that adding memory is the only fix.

Managed hosting: what to select

The official hosted flow is designed to avoid manual Java, loader and networking work. Select a Craftoria listing that explicitly includes a matching server pack, choose a plan, select a region, enter the server details and complete the purchase. CurseForge’s example plans include 4 GB, 8 GB and 12 GB options, and its hosted service documentation says the flow supports game versions above 1.20.1.

  1. Confirm the host offers the Craftoria release and Minecraft/NeoForge combination your group will install.
  2. Choose a region close to most players rather than automatically selecting the largest plan.
  3. Start with enough memory for the expected concurrent players. A 4 GB plan is closer to a small test than to the 10–12 GB guidance for 5–15 players.
  4. After deployment, review the console for a clean first start, accept the EULA in the provider’s panel if required and set a private allow-list before sharing the address.
  5. Use the host’s scheduled restart, backup and file-management features if offered, but verify that backups include the world folder and that you can download one.

Hosting does not remove the need for version discipline. If the provider updates the server pack automatically while players retain an older client, the same mismatch problems occur as with a self-hosted server.

Troubleshoot the failures that matter most

The installer will not run

Check that the terminal is in the server folder, the installer file name is correct and Java is installed in a version accepted by the selected NeoForge build. Re-run the command with --installServer and read the first error rather than repeatedly launching an incomplete installation.

The server stops during startup

Read the final lines of the console and the latest log. Common causes are a wrong loader version, a damaged download, a client-only mod copied into the server or insufficient memory. Restore the untouched server-pack files, verify the release metadata and start with the generated launch script before changing configurations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players see a mod or channel mismatch

Compare the server release, Minecraft version and NeoForge version with the affected player’s profile. Reinstalling the exact client profile is usually faster than manually replacing individual jar files. Remove any extra mods from the player’s profile and test again.

Friends cannot connect, but the host can

Verify the server is listening on the port in server properties, the operating-system firewall permits Java, the router forwards that port to the correct local address and the friend is using the public address rather than the host’s private address. Test from a separate internet connection. If the home connection cannot accept inbound traffic, use managed hosting.

The world lags when players explore

Watch memory and CPU usage while reproducing the problem. Increase the memory allocation only when the machine has headroom; otherwise reduce simultaneous exploration, move the server to faster storage or choose a larger managed plan. Keep the pack’s default settings until you have identified the bottleneck.

Backups, updates and safe maintenance

Stop the server before copying its world folder or replacing pack files. Keep at least one dated backup away from the live directory and periodically verify that it can be opened. A backup made while region files are being written may be incomplete.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Record the current Craftoria, Minecraft and NeoForge versions.
  2. Stop the server cleanly and copy the world, configuration and any custom scripts.
  3. Install the new server pack in a separate directory or make a restorable copy of the existing one.
  4. Start the updated server without inviting players, watch the console and test a copy of the world.
  5. Update every client to the same release before allowing normal connections.

Do not delete the old server directory until the new release has loaded the world and players have confirmed that important areas, machines and quests work as expected. Keeping the previous files provides a recovery path when a pack update changes a mod or configuration.

Bottom line

For a small Craftoria group, install the separate server pack, use its NeoForge version—currently documented as 21.1.249—start with the supplied 3G-to-5G memory settings and require exact client/server version matches. Choose self-hosting when you want complete file and world control and can manage networking and maintenance. Choose managed hosting when predictable availability, simpler setup and easier sharing matter more than direct machine access.
