Rockstar has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI radio and on-demand podcasts can play both while Jason or Lucia are driving and while they are on foot. Walking audio uses newly introduced headphones or earbuds connected to the characters’ smartphones. Rockstar has not yet published the final button presses, menus, station-switching sequence, or podcast controls, so any pre-release guide that gives an exact controller tutorial is guessing.
The official music material currently previews six stations. They cover modern Latin, renegade country, African music, metal, pop, and regional rap and hip-hop classics, but the previews are not a promise that six is the complete launch lineup. The safest way to use this guide is to separate what Rockstar has confirmed from what must be checked in the released game.

What Rockstar has confirmed
Rockstar’s October 8, 2026 announcement establishes two listening situations:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- In vehicles: radio and the new on-demand podcasts are available while Jason or Lucia are traveling in a vehicle.
- On foot: the characters can listen through headphones or earbuds connected to their in-game smartphones.
The announcement does not say that players need a particular real-world headset, Bluetooth accessory, phone, or console audio device. The headphones and earbuds are part of the game’s fiction and interface. Your television, monitor, console headset, or speakers still provide the sound to you.
#1 Best Overall
- This product contains a download code inside the box — no disc is included. Customer shipments will begin arriving November 12 for pre-load; game is playable starting November 19. Code can only be used by users holding an account for PlayStation registered to the US or Canada.
- Pre-order to receive the Vintage Vice City Pack.
- Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience.
Rockstar describes the feature in its own words: “Plus, for the first time ever, Grand Theft Auto VI introduces a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to experience beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio, with both radio and podcasts available to listen to in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones.” The sentence appears in the official announcement, published October 8, 2026.
This is a feature confirmation, not a control manual. Rockstar has not documented whether audio is selected from a radial menu, a smartphone screen, a pause menu, a vehicle interface, a dedicated button, or some combination of those systems.
Can you listen to GTA 6 radio while walking?
Yes. On-foot listening is explicitly confirmed. Jason and Lucia can use in-game headphones or earbuds linked to their smartphones, allowing radio and podcasts to continue outside a vehicle. This is different from older open-world radio systems that normally stopped when the character left a car.
Recommended Free Tools
The precise behavior remains unknown. Rockstar has not said whether the character must equip the headphones manually, whether the audio is available immediately or after a story unlock, whether both protagonists share the same stations and podcasts, or whether a mission or gameplay state can temporarily disable listening. Those details should be taken from the final game documentation rather than inferred from promotional images or previews.
What the announcement does not mean
- It does not confirm that every radio station can be played on foot at all times.
- It does not specify whether the headphones are visible in every outfit, camera view, or cutscene.
- It does not establish a separate real-world hardware requirement.
- It does not reveal the final station-switching or volume controls.
How on-foot listening is expected to work
At a feature level, the documented path is straightforward: a character is away from a vehicle, the character’s smartphone is connected to in-game headphones or earbuds, and radio or podcast audio is selected. That description explains the capability without pretending to know the final interface.
When the game launches, look for the exact wording Rockstar uses in its final manual or in-game help. The labels could refer to “Radio,” “Headphones,” “Earbuds,” “Podcasts,” “Audio,” or another term. Do not assume that a control shown in a trailer is the production control scheme; trailers often use edited footage and do not establish a universal button mapping.
On-foot audio should also be distinguished from ordinary game sound. Hearing a station through the character’s fictional smartphone accessory does not require you to pair your own earbuds with the console. If you want private listening, use your platform’s normal audio-output settings, but that is separate from enabling the in-game feature.

Which controls are still unknown?
The following table separates confirmed information from questions Rockstar has not answered in the reviewed official pages.
| Question | Status before release |
|---|---|
| Can radio play in a vehicle? | Confirmed by Rockstar. |
| Can radio play while walking? | Confirmed; the announcement specifies headphones or earbuds connected to the smartphone. |
| Are on-demand podcasts included? | Confirmed in vehicles and on foot. |
| Which button opens the station selector? | Not stated. |
| Is there a smartphone menu for audio? | Not stated. |
| How are stations changed? | Not stated. |
| How are podcasts selected, paused, or resumed? | Not stated. |
| Do controls differ between PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S? | Not stated. |
| Can missions, characters, or activities restrict listening? | Not stated. |
| Is the complete station roster available? | No. Rockstar has published previews, not a definitive full roster. |
Until those cells are filled by final documentation or the released game, avoid guides that present invented sequences such as “press this button twice, open that tab, and select station three.”
Six GTA 6 radio stations Rockstar has previewed
Rockstar’s official music page currently highlights six stations. The page calls them hand-picked previews, so this is a confirmed preview list rather than a complete launch catalogue.
| Station | Music description | Hosts |
|---|---|---|
| Cocoteo | Modern Latin music | El Martillo and La Gata |
| Back Country | Renegade country | MW and Delta Dawne |
| Afro Bank FM | African music, including amapiano and 3-step | Burna and Palmsy |
| The Chamber | Metal | DJ Kerry and DJ Tom |
| Flash FM | Pop | Robyn and Alex |
| Dirty South Classics | Regional rap and hip-hop classics | Trick and Trina |
You can review Rockstar’s current station descriptions on its official GTA VI music page. It is the appropriate reference for these previews because station names, hosts, descriptions, and album information can change before launch.

Cocoteo is the preview for modern Latin music, hosted by El Martillo and La Gata. Choose it when you want a contemporary Latin identity rather than a classic or guitar-oriented station. Rockstar has not published a complete Cocoteo track list, so the genre description is the reliable way to identify its sound before release.
Back Country
Back Country is described as renegade country and is hosted by MW and Delta Dawne. The “renegade” label suggests a deliberately rougher or less conventional country presentation, but Rockstar has not supplied enough track information to turn that description into a song-by-song prediction.
Afro Bank FM
Afro Bank FM focuses on African music and specifically mentions amapiano and 3-step. Burna and Palmsy host the station. Those genre references make it the clearest preview for listeners seeking contemporary African dance styles, while the absence of a full playlist means individual artists and songs remain unconfirmed.

The Chamber
The Chamber is the metal station, with DJ Kerry and DJ Tom behind the microphones. Its confirmed identity is the genre and the hosts; Rockstar has not published a definitive list of subgenres, bands, or songs. Treat any detailed playlist circulating before launch as unverified unless Rockstar adds it to the official page.
Flash FM
Flash FM is the pop station, hosted by Robyn and Alex. Pop is the only confirmed musical category for this preview. The name should not be used to infer a particular decade, chart period, or artist roster because those details have not been provided in the official station description.
Dirty South Classics
Dirty South Classics covers regional rap and hip-hop classics and is hosted by Trick and Trina. The “classics” wording identifies a focus on established regional material, but it does not publish the geographic boundaries, years, or complete artists list. Use the description as a listening guide, not as a complete catalogue.
Choosing a station before you know the full playlist
Because Rockstar has supplied genres rather than complete playlists, the most defensible way to choose is by the station’s stated musical identity:
- Modern Latin: Cocoteo.
- Country: Back Country.
- Amapiano, 3-step, and other African styles: Afro Bank FM.
- Metal: The Chamber.
- Pop: Flash FM.
- Regional rap and hip-hop classics: Dirty South Classics.
This grouping is useful for deciding what to preview, but it is not evidence that these are the only genres in the finished game. Rockstar’s official music page says Grand Theft Auto VI features “the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet.” That is Rockstar’s promotional comparison, not an independently measured ranking against earlier games.
Can you listen to podcasts in GTA 6?
Yes. On-demand podcasts are a confirmed GTA 6 feature, separate from terrestrial radio. Rockstar says Jason and Lucia can experience them in vehicles and on foot. “On-demand” indicates a different listening model from a station that continuously cycles through scheduled music, but Rockstar has not yet explained the number of shows, episode lengths, hosts, release order, or whether episodes are replayable.
The announcement also does not say whether podcasts use the same selector as radio, a smartphone application, a pause-menu category, or another interface. Do not assume that podcast playback will use the same skip, pause, or station controls as music. Wait for the final documentation for those details.

There is no confirmed requirement to buy a separate podcast item, subscribe to a fictional service, or connect an external account. The only equipment Rockstar names for portable listening is the characters’ in-game headphones or earbuds connected to their smartphones.
GTA VI: The Album is not the in-game radio catalogue
Rockstar is also promoting Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album. The official music page says the album contains 34 original tracks and is coming November 19; the page links to vinyl and CD preorders and offers singles. That number describes the commercial album, not the number of songs broadcast by GTA 6 radio.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
| Item | What is confirmed | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| In-game radio | Stations, including the six current previews, play inside the game; radio is available in vehicles and on foot. | The complete station roster and complete track lists. |
| On-demand podcasts | Podcasts can be heard in vehicles and on foot. | Show list, episode catalogue, controls, and replay rules. |
| Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album | Rockstar lists 34 original tracks and a November 19 release, with vinyl and CD preorder links. | That the album reproduces station playlists or contains every radio song. |
Buying the album is therefore an optional way to hear GTA VI-associated music outside the game, not a requirement for using the in-game radio or podcasts. Likewise, the vinyl and CD listings do not prove that their track order matches any station.
Platforms and edition information
Rockstar Customer Support currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for GTA VI and says the Standard Edition includes the game. The platform and edition details are documented on the official support page.
That page does not describe different radio controls, station access, or podcast availability by edition. It is therefore reasonable to identify the supported platforms, but not to promise that a particular controller shortcut works on both systems. Check the final platform-specific manual or in-game control settings after release.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Pre-release checklist for readers planning to use the feature
- Bookmark the official music page. Station names, hosts, album details, and previews can be revised before launch.
- Separate confirmed features from speculation. Portable listening and podcasts are confirmed; button mappings and the final roster are not.
- Decide what you want to hear by genre. Use the six published descriptions rather than unverified song lists.
- Do not buy hardware specifically for the fictional headphones. Rockstar has not named a real-world model or external accessory requirement.
- Check your platform and edition. Rockstar’s support information currently identifies PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the Standard Edition including the game.
- Plan to reread the final documentation. The released control scheme may differ from every pre-release screenshot, trailer, or article.
How to verify the controls after launch
When GTA 6 is available, use this verification process instead of relying on an old pre-release shortcut:
- Update the game. Install the current title update before judging whether an audio option is missing.
- Open the final control and help screens. Record the exact labels Rockstar uses for radio, headphones, earbuds, podcasts, station selection, and playback.
- Test in a vehicle. Confirm how the game exposes ordinary radio and whether the station list can be changed while driving.
- Test on foot. Check how the character equips or activates the in-game headphones or earbuds and whether the smartphone is involved in the visible interaction.
- Test a podcast separately. Verify how an on-demand show starts, pauses, resumes, and returns to radio, if those options are provided.
- Repeat on your platform. If you own both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, compare the displayed labels and button prompts rather than assuming parity.
- Check unusual situations. Note whether a mission, cutscene, character switch, outfit, or other gameplay state changes availability. Rockstar has not documented those conditions in advance.
This procedure produces a trustworthy launch-day guide because it records what the final software actually exposes instead of filling gaps with assumptions.

Common misconceptions to avoid
“Six stations are confirmed, so there will only be six.”
No. Rockstar has previewed six stations. The page does not call them the complete final lineup, and its broader description promises a wide selection. Additional stations may be announced or revealed later.
“The 34-track album is the radio soundtrack.”
No. The 34-track figure belongs to the separately promoted album. Rockstar has not said that those tracks are the complete in-game radio catalogue or that every station song appears on the album.
“A trailer button is the final control.”
No. Promotional footage does not document a complete control scheme. Rockstar has not published the final station and podcast inputs in the reviewed sources.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
“I need to purchase special earbuds.”
No such product requirement has been announced. The headphones and earbuds Rockstar mentions are in-game equipment connected to the characters’ smartphones.
“Podcasts are just another name for radio stations.”
Rockstar presents podcasts as on-demand programs beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio. Their catalogue and controls are still to be documented, so do not assume that they follow a station’s continuous broadcast model.
What remains to be checked after release
- The exact buttons and menu paths for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- The final station lineup and complete song lists.
- The complete podcast catalogue and playback behavior.
- Whether controls vary by platform, protagonist, mission, or gameplay state.
- Whether headphones or earbuds have any additional in-game availability rules beyond the announcement.
Until Rockstar publishes those details or the game supplies them directly, the reliable answer is limited but clear: GTA 6 supports radio and on-demand podcasts in vehicles and on foot, portable listening uses the protagonists’ smartphone-connected headphones or earbuds, and the six named stations are previews rather than a guaranteed complete roster.
