Yes. The original JBL Boombox supports JBL Connect+, which links it wirelessly with other Connect+ speakers for shared playback. That does not make it compatible with every JBL speaker: models using the later PartyBoost feature cannot join a Connect+ group.
What Connect+ does on the original Boombox
JBL lists the original Boombox as a Connect+ speaker, and its 2017 specification sheet also names Connect+ as a feature. JBL says the technology can link more than 100 Connect+ enabled speakers wirelessly. In practice, linked speakers play the same source; the cited documentation does not establish stereo separation between mixed models. JBL’s Connect+ support page and the original Boombox specification sheet describe the feature.
Which speakers can connect to it?
The other speaker needs to support Connect+ too. JBL names the Pulse 3, Flip 4, and Charge 3 as examples of Connect+ models. Check the exact model’s stated linking feature rather than relying on its brand, Bluetooth support, or a similar product name.

PartyBoost is a different generation of JBL linking technology. JBL says PartyBoost does not support the earlier Connect or Connect+ features, so a PartyBoost speaker cannot join the original Boombox’s Connect+ group. JBL’s PartyBoost compatibility guidance explains the backward-compatibility limit.

Can the original Boombox connect to Boombox 2?
No. JBL specifically states that Boombox 2 cannot connect to Connect or Connect+ models, citing its newer Bluetooth chip. The statement appears on JBL Japan’s Boombox 2 compatibility page; JBL’s general PartyBoost guidance gives the same incompatibility example.
How to link Connect+ speakers
- Start music on one Connect+ compatible speaker, such as the original Boombox.
- Press the Connect+ button on each additional Connect+ speaker you want to link.
- Confirm that the speakers join playback from the same source. The feature is for shared playback, not a guarantee of stereo mode across different models.
Connect+ group playback versus stereo mode
JBL’s PartyBoost instructions say stereo mode requires two speakers of the same model. That rule is documented for PartyBoost, so it should not be assumed to describe Connect+ stereo behavior. For the original Boombox, the supported Connect+ function established in JBL’s documentation is linking enabled speakers for shared playback. JBL’s PartyBoost stereo instructions explain that feature’s same-model requirement.
