Enshrouded has no admin console or chat command for kicking a player. Instead, a player needs to join with a user group that has the canKickBan permission, then use the in-game menus to remove someone. For a dedicated server, that permission is set in enshrouded_server.json; peer-to-peer hosts assign roles in Host Settings.
How kicking works in Enshrouded
Kicking is controlled by a permission, not by a command. On a dedicated server, the relevant setting is canKickBan inside a user group in enshrouded_server.json. A player receives that group’s permissions by connecting with its password. The official configuration example enables kick and ban permissions for Admin, but not for Friend or Guest.

A kick removes a player without recording a ban, so that player can reconnect. A ban is recorded in the configuration’s bans array and prevents the player from rejoining while the ban remains in place.
Kick a player from a dedicated server
- Stop the server. Do not edit
enshrouded_server.jsonwhile the server is running. - Open the configuration file and inspect
userGroups. Find the group you intend to use for moderation. The default example includes Admin, Friend, and Guest; do not assume a server’s current file still matches that example. - Enable the permission for that group. Confirm the group contains
"canKickBan": true. Preserve the rest of the group’s existing settings; configuration field names can differ between examples, so avoid replacing an entire group with a template that may not match your file. - Check the JSON syntax. Separate adjacent entries with commas, but do not leave a comma after the final entry. Invalid JSON can prevent the server configuration from loading correctly.
- Use a distinct group password. Group permissions are granted through the password used to connect. A group without a password is open to anyone who joins with it, so do not treat an open Admin group as private moderation access.
- Save the file and start the server. Connect using the password for the group with
canKickBanenabled. - Remove the player through the in-game menus. The exact menu path is not established by the official material available here. Some third-party instructions identify a Social tab, but that path should be treated as unverified and may differ by game version.
The configuration grants the ability to kick or ban; it does not provide a console command. If the relevant menu option is missing, confirm that you connected with the correct group password and that the intended group has canKickBan set to true.

These are the groups and permission values in the official example, not a guarantee that every server has unchanged defaults. Check the actual userGroups section on your server. A passwordless group is accessible to anyone who joins with it; use a unique password for each group, especially one with moderation rights.
Kick or ban: choose the right action
Kick when removal is temporary
A kick is not added to the bans array. The player can rejoin, so kicking is appropriate when you want to remove someone from the current session without blocking a later connection.

Ban when the player should not rejoin
A ban is stored in the configuration’s bans array. The recorded entry includes accountIDHash, displayName, characterName, and banDate. Those are the fields identified for a ban record; do not substitute a guessed identifier or remove unrelated entries when editing the array.
Instructions for unbanning are not confirmed by official material here. Third-party guidance describes either using a Social tab or editing the bans array while the server is stopped, but that workflow is unverified. If you edit the file, stop the server first, preserve valid JSON, and make a backup before changing a ban entry.

Kick a player in a peer-to-peer hosted world
For peer-to-peer hosting, set roles from the in-game Host Settings menu rather than editing the dedicated-server configuration. The available presets are Visitor, Helper, Friend, and Admin. Admin is the role described as able to kick and ban; the other presets are not identified as having those permissions.
Assign the Admin role to the host or moderator who needs the permission, then use the in-game menus to remove a player. The exact removal menu path is not confirmed, so do not rely on the Social-tab instructions as a verified path. Peer-to-peer role assignment and the dedicated-server userGroups configuration are separate methods; use the one that matches how the world is hosted.

Common problems and checks
- No kick or ban option appears: On a dedicated server, verify you connected with the password for the group that has
canKickBanenabled. On a peer-to-peer world, check that the moderator has the Admin role in Host Settings. - The player can return after being removed: That is expected after a kick. A kick is not a ban and does not create a record in the
bansarray. - The player can still connect after a ban: Check whether the ban is present in the configuration’s
bansarray and whether the server is using the file you edited. The available material does not establish a complete troubleshooting procedure for a ban that fails to take effect. - The edited configuration will not load: Stop the server, check commas and brackets in the JSON, and restore a backup if needed. Do not remove fields just because another example uses different names; retain the fields already present in your server’s configuration.
- You cannot find the documented menu: The Social-tab path is reported by third-party instructions but is not confirmed by official material here. Menu labels or locations may vary by game version.
What to know before changing server settings
The setting that grants moderation is per group, so changing it affects every player who connects under that group’s credentials. Keep the Admin password private and unique, and avoid assigning kick/ban permission to a group used by ordinary guests. If you only need to remove someone for the current session, use a kick rather than editing the ban list.
For dedicated servers, the configuration fields and moderation records described here are specific to enshrouded_server.json. Do not apply those file-editing steps to a peer-to-peer world, where roles are assigned through Host Settings. Because exact menu navigation and unban behavior are not confirmed, verify those actions in your current game version before relying on them for a live world.
