Separate the Twitch reward request from the alert that viewers see. In Twitch Creator Dashboard, you can pause the redemption queue during a raid, limit or disable individual rewards, or turn Channel Points off. If the interruption is a sound or graphic in your broadcast, change the third-party alert overlay or its OBS Browser Source instead; OBS does not create those alerts itself.
This distinction lets you keep harmless rewards available while preventing a difficult Mythic+ pull, raid mechanic, or boss explanation from being interrupted by a request you cannot handle immediately.
Identify what is actually interrupting your WoW stream
“Redemption” can describe two different events. Diagnose the symptom before changing a setting, because each problem has a different control.

A request appears in Twitch’s queue
A viewer spends Channel Points and a reward request enters your Activity Feed or rewards queue. This is a Twitch fulfillment problem. The request can require you to speak, perform an in-game action, change a title, or otherwise acknowledge it. Changing an OBS scene will not stop the request from arriving.

A graphic, animation, or sound plays on the broadcast
An on-stream banner, video, text-to-speech clip, or sound effect is an alert-overlay problem. Such an alert is normally supplied by a third-party service and shown in OBS through a Browser Source. Disabling a reward in Twitch does not necessarily remove an overlay that is already configured to react to events.
Both happen together
Many channels have both systems enabled: the redemption is placed in Twitch’s queue and an overlay announces it. Handle them separately. Use Twitch controls to regulate whether viewers can redeem and use OBS or the alert service to regulate what appears or sounds in the scene.
Use Twitch controls in the least restrictive order
Twitch documents several levels of control. Start with the option that protects the current encounter while preserving as much viewer participation as you can.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesPause redemptions during a demanding moment
Pausing is the quickest live intervention when you want a temporary break rather than a permanent rule change. Twitch’s Channel Points Guide for Creators says: “From here you can also Pause redemptions if you find you’re overwhelmed with requests, or you want to take a break while you’re live.” Open the current Channel Points controls in Creator Dashboard, use the pause-redemptions control, and resume it after the pull, explanation, or boss attempt is over.
A pause prevents new requests while it is active; it does not fulfill requests already waiting in the queue. Review those existing entries when you have attention available.
Apply cooldowns and limits to custom rewards
For a custom reward that is useful but disruptive when repeated, edit that reward instead of shutting down Channel Points. Twitch documents cooldowns from one minute to seven days, plus limits per stream and per user. These are guardrails: they reduce how often a request can be made, but they do not perform the reward for you.

- Open Twitch Creator Dashboard and go to the Channel Points reward-management area.
- Select the custom reward that is causing interruptions and open its edit controls.
- Choose a cooldown within Twitch’s documented one-minute-to-seven-day range.
- Set a per-stream limit when you want a finite number of requests for the whole broadcast.
- Set a per-user limit when one viewer is generating repeated work.
- Save the reward, then review how it appears to viewers before the next high-attention stream.
Use a per-stream limit for rewards such as a one-time character-name change or a single challenge. Use a per-user limit when the reward is acceptable occasionally but would be overwhelming if one person redeemed it repeatedly.
Disable only the disruptive rewards
Twitch lets creators enable or disable individual default and custom rewards. Turn off a reward that requires an immediate physical or in-game response while leaving low-effort rewards available. This is less disruptive to channel-point participation than disabling the entire program.
- In Creator Dashboard, open the Channel Points reward list.
- Find the default or custom reward you want to remove temporarily.
- Use its enabled or disabled control and save the change.
- Tell viewers in chat what is unavailable and, if appropriate, when you expect to restore it.
Disabling a reward changes whether new viewers can redeem it. It is not a substitute for processing requests that were already submitted.
Turn Channel Points off entirely
When every reward is creating work, disable Channel Points in the Channel Points settings. Twitch’s creator guide documents an account-level switch for turning the feature off. This is the broadest option: viewers cannot redeem Channel Point rewards while it is disabled, but it also removes the channel’s other reward interactions until you turn the feature back on.
| Control | What viewers can do | What you still handle | Best WoW use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Queue and moderator handling | Rewards remain available | Review and fulfill requests | A normal stream with a moderator watching the queue |
| Cooldowns and per-stream or per-user limits | Rewards remain available within set limits | Fulfill each accepted request | Recurring rewards that are manageable at a slower rate |
| Disable selected rewards | Other enabled rewards remain available | Handle requests that are still enabled | A single reward conflicts with raids, dungeons, or explanations |
| Pause redemptions | New redemptions are temporarily blocked | Process the existing queue later | A boss pull, Mythic+ key, PvP match, or emergency recovery |
| Disable Channel Points | No Channel Point rewards are available | No new Channel Point requests while disabled | A stream where you cannot monitor or fulfill any queue |
Process the queue without losing focus
Redemptions that require manual fulfillment appear in Twitch’s Activity Feed and rewards queue. Twitch lists queue actions that include marking a request complete, rejecting it, refunding points, reporting abuse, and pausing redemptions. The exact dashboard labels can change, so look for the current queue actions in Creator Dashboard rather than relying on an old walkthrough.

Use a short queue routine
- Before going live, decide which rewards you can complete during combat and which must wait for a break.
- During an encounter, leave the queue alone or pause new redemptions if incoming requests are distracting you.
- At a safe point, open the Activity Feed or rewards queue and read each pending request.
- Mark a fulfilled reward complete only after you have actually done what the reward promises.
- Reject or refund a request when you cannot fulfill it under the reward’s stated rules. Use the refund action when the viewer should receive the points back.
- Report a request when it is abusive or violates the channel’s rules, using Twitch’s available reporting workflow.
Do not mark a reward complete simply to clear the list. A false completion creates a viewer-support problem and makes it harder to tell which requests still need attention.
Let a moderator manage routine queue work
Twitch allows moderators to assist with queue tasks. Give a trusted moderator a clear policy: which rewards can be approved immediately, which should be rejected or refunded, and which require you to confirm completion. A moderator can keep the queue orderly while you handle a mechanic, but delegation does not make an impossible reward fulfillable.
Handle custom requests visible in chat
Twitch says custom requests can surface through chat and the live dashboard, and creators can review and cancel inappropriate custom redemptions. Keep the reward description specific about timing, eligibility, and what happens if gameplay makes fulfillment unsafe. That wording reduces arguments when you pause a request until the group is out of combat.
Stop the visual or audio alert in OBS
When the interruption is an animation, sound, or text layer rather than the Twitch queue itself, inspect the alert setup. The OBS Project states: “OBS Studio does not directly provide stream alerts.” Its guidance is available in How do I add alerts to my stream?
Find the Browser Source that displays the alert
- Open OBS Studio and select the scene used for your WoW gameplay.
- In the Sources list, identify the Browser Source associated with the alert overlay. Its name may reflect the alert provider or the scene purpose.
- Open the source properties and verify that its URL is the alert-overlay URL you intend to use.
- For a no-alert gameplay scene, hide or remove that Browser Source from the scene. If you need the source in other scenes, leave it in those scenes and change only the WoW scene.
- Check the source’s audio behavior in the OBS mixer. If the overlay is visible but silent, or audible but invisible, treat those as separate source settings.
OBS’s Browser Source method is consistent, but third-party alert services do not all use the same controls. The provider’s current dashboard determines whether you can disable a particular event, change its sound, add a delay, or filter an event type. Do not assume that a button named “disable redemptions” in one service exists in another.

Decide whether to change the provider or OBS
- Change the provider: Use this when you want to keep the Browser Source but alter which events trigger, the animation, the sound, or the message.
- Change OBS: Use this when you want the alert source absent from a particular scene, such as a clean raid or dungeon scene.
- Use Twitch controls: Use this when the underlying problem is that viewers can submit too many requests. Hiding an overlay leaves the Twitch queue active.
After changing either system, trigger a safe test redemption before a high-attention stream. Confirm both the viewer-facing behavior and the streamer-facing queue entry. This is a setup check, not a guarantee that every alert service handles events identically.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Build a WoW-specific interruption policy
A written policy makes your controls predictable for viewers and lets you act quickly when a group is waiting on you.
Classify rewards by gameplay risk
- Safe during combat: Rewards that require no spoken response and do not alter your controls can remain enabled with ordinary limits.
- Safe between pulls: Rewards that require a short explanation, a camera change, or a non-urgent action should be fulfilled only at a waypoint or after combat.
- Unsafe during encounters: Anything that requires opening menus, changing equipment, leaving a group, moving the character, or speaking for an extended period should be paused during progression content.
Put the timing rule in each reward’s description. For example, state that a reward will be handled after the current boss attempt rather than implying an immediate response.

Use a scene dedicated to focused gameplay
Create a WoW scene without the alert Browser Source for raid pulls, Mythic+ keys, or ranked matches. Keep a separate social or intermission scene with the full overlay. Switching scenes changes what is broadcast, while the Twitch redemption settings continue to govern whether requests can be submitted.
Announce the state clearly
When you pause or disable rewards, use a short chat message or on-screen notice explaining the reason: for example, “Rewards paused for the boss pull; they will reopen after the attempt.” Remove the notice when the normal state returns. Clear communication prevents viewers from interpreting a temporary pause as a broken channel.

A practical decision tree while you are live
- Is there a new item in the Twitch queue? If yes, use the queue controls, a moderator, or a temporary pause. Do not start by editing OBS.
- Is the broadcast showing or playing an alert? If yes, inspect the third-party alert configuration and the Browser Source in the active OBS scene.
- Are both occurring? Pause or limit Twitch redemptions, then separately hide or reconfigure the overlay source.
- Is the interruption limited to one reward? Disable that reward or apply a cooldown and limits instead of turning off Channel Points globally.
- Can nobody monitor the queue for the rest of the stream? Disable Channel Points or leave them paused until you can reliably fulfill requests.
Do not confuse Channel Points with Twitch Drops notifications
Twitch Drops are a separate viewer-notification and earning system. Twitch’s Drops documentation explains that turning Drops notifications off does not stop a viewer from earning Drops. That setting does not pause, disable, refund, or otherwise control your channel’s Channel Point rewards.
If a viewer reports missing Drops notifications, changing your Channel Points reward settings will not solve it. Conversely, changing Drops notification preferences will not stop a Channel Point redemption from entering your queue or triggering a configured alert overlay. See Twitch’s current guidance at the mission-based Drops help page.

Troubleshoot common failures
“I paused redemptions, but an item is still waiting”
Pausing affects new redemptions. Open the existing queue and process each pending item using the appropriate complete, reject, refund, or report action. A pause is not an automatic cancellation.
“The reward is disabled, but viewers still hear an alert”
The sound is probably coming from the third-party overlay rather than Twitch’s reward availability. Check the active scene’s Browser Source and the provider’s event settings. A disabled reward should stop new redemptions of that reward, but it does not remove unrelated alerts or an already configured source.
“The overlay is gone, but viewers can still redeem”
Hiding or removing a Browser Source changes the broadcast presentation only. Use Twitch’s Channel Points controls to pause, limit, disable a reward, or disable Channel Points.
“A moderator cannot clear the queue”
Confirm that the person has the moderator role in the channel and that the relevant queue actions are available in the current Creator Dashboard. If delegation is not working, pause redemptions yourself and process the queue during a safe break rather than asking a moderator to guess at fulfillment.

Pre-stream checklist
- Open Creator Dashboard and verify which Channel Point rewards are enabled.
- Check cooldowns and per-stream or per-user limits on rewards that can interrupt combat.
- Know where the pause-redemptions control is before starting a raid or key.
- Assign a moderator to monitor the queue if you expect frequent requests.
- Inspect the WoW scene in OBS and identify every Browser Source used for alerts.
- Decide whether focused gameplay should use a scene without the alert overlay.
- Run a safe test so you can see the queue entry and the on-stream graphic or sound.
- Tell viewers how and when rewards will be handled during encounters.
