Use one master watchlist, then connect it to each platform’s first-party wishlist. Record separate dates for digital and physical editions, preorder opening, demo availability, region, and platform. Review the list weekly and verify tentative dates on the publisher or storefront page before launch. This combination catches announcements early while preserving the detail that storefront notifications often miss.
Build a single source of truth
Platform wishlists are excellent alert systems, but none gives you a complete view of a JRPG’s regional, physical, digital, demo, and preorder status. A master spreadsheet or database fills that gap. Create one row for each platform and edition when dates differ; do not force a single “release date” into a game that launches digitally first, ships physically later, or arrives on different platforms at different times.
Recommended fields
- Title: Use the official spelling, including subtitles.
- Publisher: Helpful when several games have similar names.
- Platform: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, or another confirmed platform.
- Region: Record the market and timezone, such as North America, Europe, Japan, or UTC.
- Digital release date and time: Keep the date and any stated launch hour separate.
- Physical release date: Use a separate field because a cartridge or disc can ship on another day.
- Preorder opening: Record when orders became available and on which storefront.
- Demo status: Use values such as available, announced, planned, or none announced.
- Edition: Standard, deluxe, collector’s, physical, digital, or an edition-specific date.
- Source page: Paste the publisher or storefront page you used for the date.
- Confidence: Mark each date confirmed, tentative, or TBA.
- Last checked: Add the date you verified the information.
- Notes: Capture early-access periods, regional exceptions, delays, and preorder payment rules.
Separate rows are especially important when a game has a Japanese launch before a western release, a physical edition after the digital version, or a demo on one platform but not another. A single title can therefore have several valid dates rather than one universally correct date.
Use a small, meaningful status vocabulary
Keep confidence labels consistent. Confirmed means the publisher or the relevant storefront has posted a date. Tentative means a date appears in a secondary listing or has been announced without final storefront confirmation. TBA means the game is announced but no date has been established. Add a separate “released” state after launch so old entries remain useful without continuing to trigger reminders.

Turn on first-party alerts immediately
Add a game to the official wishlist as soon as it is listed. Wishlists are tied to the account and storefront where you intend to buy, so repeat the action for every platform you may use. A wishlist alert tells you that something changed on that store; your master list tells you whether another edition, region, or platform has a different schedule.
Steam
Valve says Steam wishlists can notify users about releases and sales by email or through the mobile app. Steam also supports wishlist categories and can notify users when a wishlisted game’s demo is released. Create a few categories that answer an action question rather than a genre question:
- Date confirmed: Games with a verified launch date.
- Demo wanted: Games for which you want an immediate demo alert.
- Physical edition: Games you may buy on a cartridge or disc instead of Steam.
- Buy later: Announced games that do not need weekly attention.
Keep categories limited. If every game has a unique label, the list becomes another backlog instead of a monitoring tool. Check Steam’s notification settings in both the account and mobile app so release, sale, and demo messages are not silently disabled.

Sony’s official “Games to wishlist” catalog lets you sort by release date, filter to the RPG genre, and view announced titles. On a game’s PlayStation page, upcoming releases can show separate Pre-order now and Add to your Wishlist actions. Use the wishlist action when a preorder is not open yet; switch to a preorder only after confirming the edition, region, and delivery date.
PlayStation’s catalog is useful for discovering announced RPGs, but your spreadsheet should still retain the exact edition and region. A date shown for a digital standard edition does not automatically establish the date for a collector’s package or an imported physical copy.
Nintendo eShop
Nintendo’s coming-soon section displays preorder options and free-demo indicators. Add the title to your Nintendo account and capture whether the listing is a preorder, a demo, or both. Nintendo’s support guidance says digital-only software usually appears at 9:00 a.m. Pacific on release day, while software also sold physically usually appears at 9:00 p.m. Pacific the night before. The publisher decides the exact release time, and exceptions apply, so treat those hours as general guidance rather than a guarantee.

Nintendo says preorder payment processing starts seven days before release. Record that seven-day point in your notes if you need to maintain account balance, change payment methods, or cancel before the charge. A listed date without a timezone is incomplete; add Pacific time for the Nintendo guidance and convert it for your location only after confirming the publisher’s schedule.
Xbox and other storefronts
The same principle applies to Xbox or any additional storefront you use: add the game to that platform’s first-party wishlist, then record its platform-specific date in the master list. The supplied platform guidance is strongest for Steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo; where another storefront does not show a demo, preorder, or launch hour, rely on the publisher’s announcement and mark the corresponding field according to its evidence rather than assuming parity.
Use publisher pages as the final authority
When dates conflict, check the publisher page first, then compare it with the storefront listing. Publisher announcements often explain why a date differs by platform or territory and may identify separate digital, physical, and preorder milestones.
KEMCO’s Tears Revolude announcement illustrates the pattern: it listed an April 10, 2026 release, preorder availability on Microsoft Store and Nintendo eShop, and PlayStation wishlisting before purchase. Those are three different availability states, not contradictory information. Enter each state in its own field so a reader can see that a preorder can open on two stores while another platform is still collecting wishlists.
Do not replace a confirmed publisher date with an undated calendar entry. Conversely, do not treat a retailer or community date as final when the publisher has not confirmed it. Keep the lower-confidence date in your notes if it helps discovery, but label it clearly and schedule a recheck.

Use a specialist calendar for discovery, not final verification

Because a community calendar aggregates announcements, use it as a cross-check. Open the publisher or first-party store page before you rely on a date, preorder, or demo status. If the two disagree, retain both the calendar’s discovery note and the authoritative page in your source fields, then set confidence to tentative until the conflict is resolved.
Understand why dates differ
Region and timezone
A “release day” can begin at different local times. A date announced for Japan may fall on the previous calendar day in North America, while a global digital launch may use a single UTC moment. Record the region and timezone beside every date. Never convert a date without preserving the original source value; otherwise a midnight launch can look like a one-day delay.
Digital versus physical editions
Digital storefronts can unlock at a scheduled hour while a physical edition reaches retailers later. Nintendo’s general timing guidance itself distinguishes software sold only digitally from software also sold physically. Your row should therefore identify the distribution method and edition, not merely the title.

A publisher may launch on one platform first, open a preorder on another, and publish a demo on a third. An announced game can also have a confirmed date for one platform while another remains TBA. Keep one platform-specific record for each meaningful milestone.
Early access and special editions
Deluxe or collector’s editions sometimes include earlier access. Record the early-access start as a separate milestone from the standard edition’s release. Otherwise, a notification for the earlier date can make it appear that the general launch moved.
A weekly routine that takes minutes
- Capture new announcements. Check publisher news, Nintendo Direct or similar presentations, State of Play-style events, and a specialist JRPG calendar. Add announced games even when the date is TBA.
- Add storefront wishlists. On Steam, PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox, and any other platform you might use, add the title immediately. This starts the platform’s own release and sale tracking.
- Complete the record. Enter platform, region, digital date, physical date, preorder opening, demo status, edition, source page, confidence, and last-checked date.
- Set reminders for uncertainty. Give tentative entries a weekly review date. Give confirmed entries a check seven days before launch and again the day before.
- Check official pages near launch. Reopen the publisher or storefront listing. Pay special attention to Nintendo’s release-time guidance, regional wording, preorder payment timing, and any changed platform date.
- Update after launch. Change the state to released and note whether the demo remains available, whether the physical edition shipped, and whether another platform is delayed.
Seven days before launch is a practical checkpoint because Nintendo begins processing preorder payment at that point. The day-before check catches final timezone, preload, or edition changes while there is still time to adjust a purchase.

Compare tracking methods by the job they perform

Prevent the common tracking failures
One date hides several milestones
Fix this by creating separate fields for preorder opening, demo release, early access, digital launch, physical launch, and standard-edition launch. A single date column cannot represent those events accurately.
A wishlist is mistaken for a preorder
A wishlist means the title is being monitored; it does not mean an order is available. Keep wishlist and preorder as separate statuses. The PlayStation actions explicitly show this distinction, and the Tears Revolude example demonstrates that one platform can accept preorders while another offers only wishlisting.
A community date is treated as final
Retain the calendar entry for discovery, but downgrade confidence until the publisher or storefront confirms it. Add a last-checked date so stale entries are easy to find.
Timezone conversion creates a false delay
Store the source timezone and converted local time in separate cells. For Nintendo, retain the Pacific-time guidance and the publisher’s exact-time qualification instead of presenting a local conversion as universal.
Notifications are too noisy to notice
Use a few Steam categories and reserve “demo wanted” for games where a demo matters. Review the spreadsheet weekly rather than relying on a notification inbox that mixes sales, releases, and unrelated updates.
What to do when information is missing
An announced title without a date belongs in the list with confidence set to TBA. A date shown only by a community calendar belongs in the list as tentative. A platform absent from the publisher announcement should not be assumed to launch alongside another platform. Write the gap in your notes and schedule a recheck; do not fill it with an inferred date.

For physical purchases, verify the current marketplace, region, platform, edition, and stock status immediately before ordering. A physical listing can disappear or move its shipping date even when the digital launch remains unchanged. No single product or retailer solves the tracking problem as reliably as a maintained cross-platform list paired with first-party alerts.
Keep the list useful after launch
Change a launched entry to released rather than deleting it. Record whether the demo is still downloadable, whether the physical edition arrived on schedule, and whether a delayed platform date remains outstanding. This history helps distinguish a genuine delay from a regional or edition difference when a later announcement changes the schedule.
Once a week, sort by the next upcoming milestone rather than alphabetically. Review TBA and tentative rows first, then entries within seven days of release. That order puts uncertainty and imminent purchase decisions ahead of games that need no action.
