The most dependable method is a two-layer system: keep every show in a cross-service watchlist, record which episodes or seasons you have watched, and enable alerts; then use the individual streaming service’s own reminder for titles with a confirmed upcoming date. A guide such as JustWatch can show what is new or upcoming across providers, while Netflix’s Remind Me feature covers eligible titles in its own catalog.
Treat every date as currently listed rather than guaranteed. Catalogs and launch dates vary by country, provider and licensing agreement, and Netflix says future dates can move because of production delays or licensing contracts. Check the listing again shortly before release.
Set up a release-date system once
Use this sequence for each show you follow. It separates discovery, progress tracking and notifications so a missing alert does not make you miss an episode.

- Find the exact show entry. Check that you have the right series, season and provider. Similar titles, specials and different regional catalogs can otherwise create a misleading date.
- Add the show to one watchlist. A single list prevents you from maintaining separate notes for every service. JustWatch describes a watchlist spanning multiple streaming services.
- Record your progress. Mark episodes or seasons as watched. JustWatch’s TV Show Tracking feature uses those states to organize tracked shows by progress, so an ongoing series is distinguishable from one you have not started. The instructions are in JustWatch’s TV Show Tracking help page.
- Enable alerts at the device level. If the guide offers push notifications, allow notifications for its mobile app in your phone’s settings. JustWatch says its episode and season alerts depend on push notifications being enabled there.
- Add a service-level reminder when available. For an eligible upcoming Netflix title, choose Remind Me. Netflix says the title can then appear in My List and may trigger a notification or email when it becomes available. The feature is documented in the Netflix Help Center.
This arrangement gives you one cross-service place to see the schedule and a second, provider-specific safety net for titles that have an announced date.

Choose a tracker by the questions it can answer
Do not choose a service merely because it displays a calendar. Decide which information you need when you open it: where a show is available, whether a particular episode is new, what you have already watched, and how an alert will reach you.

Track shows and progress in JustWatch
Filter the guide before saving anything
Open the guide for your country, then select the providers you actually use. JustWatch’s US guide lets readers filter by streaming provider and inspect new or upcoming programs. Provider filtering matters because a date is useful only if the service carrying the show is available to you.
When a listing shows several providers, note whether each one offers the title as part of a subscription, for rental or purchase, or in another availability category. Review the tracked list before a release day
Open the tracking view rather than scanning every provider separately. Look for shows that are in progress or waiting for a new season, then open the title to confirm its current provider and date. This review is especially useful after a season finale, when a show can remain in your list even though no further date has been announced.
Keep a small release ledger for ambiguous listings
A watchlist is the main record, but a short note can prevent confusion when a series appears on more than one service. For each tracked title, record the series name, season, country, intended provider, date as displayed, and the date you last checked it. Add whether the listing describes a single episode, an entire season or a special. This is not a replacement for the guide; it is a way to remember what a date actually referred to.
Use wording such as “scheduled for” or “currently listed on” rather than writing a date as a permanent fact. If the listing has no date, write “not announced” and leave the show tracked. That preserves your progress without turning an absence of information into a prediction.
When a provider changes, update the provider field instead of creating a duplicate show entry. Duplicates can split your watched history and make one copy look overdue while the other has the current listing. If you use more than one country’s catalog while traveling, keep the country beside the date so a later check does not mistake a regional listing for your home-market release.
Turn alerts into a useful signal instead of noise
Allow notifications on your phone
Install the guide’s mobile app if you want push alerts, then open your phone’s notification settings and allow the app to send them. JustWatch explicitly makes this a requirement for its push notifications. If notifications are blocked at the operating-system level, a show can be correctly tracked without any alert appearing.
Check the app’s own notification controls as well. A phone permission allows delivery, but an in-app switch may determine which tracked events are sent. Use Netflix Remind Me for eligible titles
On Netflix, open an upcoming title that displays a future release date and select Remind Me. Keep the reminder as a supplement, not a replacement for the cross-service list. It covers Netflix’s catalog and does not track shows that launch on another provider.
Decide which alert should be authoritative
For a show available on multiple providers, use the provider you intend to watch as the operational source for that release. Keep the cross-service guide for discovery and comparison, but avoid acting on an alert that points to a provider you cannot access. If two listings disagree, verify the country and open the provider’s own title page before scheduling viewing time.
Compare tools before moving your whole list
If you are considering a different guide, test it with a few shows rather than migrating everything immediately. Confirm that it covers your country, includes the providers you pay for, and distinguishes episodes from seasons. A title-only availability list may not tell you whether you have watched the latest episode. Also check whether the tool offers one list across services or requires separate lists for each provider.
Next, inspect the alert path. Determine whether alerts are push, email, calendar entries or none, and find out where permission is granted. A service that advertises notifications but requires a disabled phone permission will not solve the practical problem. Finally, check how the tool handles an unannounced date and a changed provider. If its documentation does not answer those questions, keep your existing tracker as the primary record and use the new tool only for comparison.

Handle country, provider and date uncertainty
Country changes the answer
Streaming rights are regional. The JustWatch pages cited in this guide are US pages, so a US “upcoming” entry must not be copied into a calendar for another country. Switch the guide to your market, select local providers and inspect the title there. If a local listing is absent, treat the release as unconfirmed for your country rather than converting a US date.
“Scheduled” is not “guaranteed”
Write dates in your notes as “currently listed” or “scheduled.” Netflix warns that future dates can change when production is delayed or licensing contracts are finalized. A date can therefore move even after you have saved a reminder.

Recheck near the launch
Make a short verification part of your routine: open the title a few days before the expected release, confirm the provider, and check whether the date or time has changed. Repeat the check on release day if the program is important. This is not redundant with an alert; it catches a changed listing, a regional difference or an alert that was blocked by phone settings.
Common tracking mistakes and their fixes
- Saving only a search result: Search pages can change as availability changes. Save the show in the watchlist and use the title entry for later checks.
- Ignoring season and episode labels: A date for a new season is not necessarily the date of the next episode. Open the season controls and read the listing carefully.
- Assuming every saved title has an alert: Tracking and notification delivery are separate. Confirm phone permission and any in-app setting.
- Copying a date from another country: Change the guide’s country first and verify the local provider.
- Deleting a show after a finale: Keep it tracked if you want to know when another season is announced. A finished current season can still be waiting for a future date.
