If you mean the regular Galaxy taskbar, open Settings > Display > Taskbar > Taskbar style and choose Stay on screen. That keeps the bar at the bottom while apps are open on supported Galaxy devices.
That setting should not be treated as a universal Samsung DeX control. Samsung’s One UI 6.0 documentation says its auto-hide feature is not supported in DeX mode, and Samsung’s current DeX help pages do not establish one taskbar-visibility switch for every DeX release. First identify whether you are changing the regular Galaxy interface or an active DeX desktop.
What “taskbar” means on a Galaxy device
Samsung uses taskbar behavior in two contexts that look similar but are not controlled identically:
- Regular Galaxy mode: the taskbar shown by the phone or tablet interface while you use apps. On supported devices, its style can be set to Auto hide or Stay on screen.
- Samsung DeX: the desktop-style environment displayed on a compatible monitor, television, tablet or other supported screen. The regular Galaxy taskbar instructions do not prove that the same switch exists in DeX.
That distinction answers the common question, “is there an option to hide Taskbar in dex mode?” Keeping a bar visible and hiding it are opposite preferences, and the available controls depend on the mode, model and software version. The documented Stay on screen route is strongest for the regular Galaxy taskbar, not for every DeX configuration.

Turn on Stay on screen in regular Galaxy mode
On a supported Galaxy phone or tablet, use this path:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Taskbar.
- Open Taskbar style.
- Select Stay on screen. Some device-specific guidance capitalizes the label as Stay on Screen.
Samsung’s Android 14 / One UI 6.0 Upgrade Customer Consultant Guide describes this style as leaving the taskbar displayed at the bottom while apps are open. A Samsung Members post dated August 13, 2026, gives the same route for Galaxy Z Fold8 devices and identifies Stay on Screen as the always-visible choice. That post is useful device-specific guidance, not proof that every Galaxy model exposes identical menus.
What you should see after changing it
When the setting is available and selected, the regular Galaxy taskbar remains visible instead of disappearing when an app occupies the screen. The change affects taskbar presentation; it does not convert the phone or tablet interface into DeX.

Auto hide versus Stay on screen

The two styles control visibility, not app launching, window management or DeX compatibility. If your goal is a permanently visible bar in the ordinary Galaxy interface, Stay on screen is the relevant choice.
Why the same switch may not appear in DeX
Samsung’s One UI 6.0 guide explicitly states: “The feature isn’t supported in DeX mode.” In context, “the feature” is the documented taskbar auto-hide behavior. This means you should not expect the regular Galaxy taskbar-style instructions to provide an equivalent DeX switch.
Samsung’s current support information about accessing apps in DeX explains DeX app controls, but it does not establish one universal setting for taskbar visibility across all DeX versions and devices. Consequently, there is no evidence-based single path that can be promised for every DeX desktop.

If you want the DeX bar to stay visible
Check the interface you are actually using before changing settings:
- If the screen is the ordinary Galaxy phone or tablet interface, use Settings > Display > Taskbar > Taskbar style > Stay on screen.
- If a DeX desktop is active, do not assume that the regular Taskbar style menu controls the DeX bar. Samsung’s published guidance does not confirm a universal always-visible DeX option.
- If a menu is missing, treat that as a model, software-version or mode difference rather than evidence that the setting has moved to an undisclosed location.
In other words, the documented solution can keep the regular Galaxy taskbar visible, while DeX taskbar behavior remains dependent on the particular DeX implementation.
Troubleshoot a missing Taskbar style menu
1. Confirm that you are not in DeX
The route above is for the regular Galaxy taskbar. A DeX desktop can present a different control set, so check which interface is currently on the screen before looking for Taskbar style.

2. Check the exact model and One UI release
Samsung Members guidance for the Galaxy Z Fold8 family should not be generalized to every Galaxy phone or tablet. Samsung’s One UI 6.0 guide documents the feature for supported configurations, while the available controls can vary by model and software version. Check your device’s About phone or About tablet information and compare it with the taskbar documentation for that model.
3. Check navigation mode
Samsung says Auto hide is limited to gesture-navigation users. If your navigation setting uses on-screen buttons, the choices shown under Taskbar style may differ from examples that assume gestures. This limitation concerns Auto hide; it does not establish that every device will offer Stay on screen.

Use the Settings search field for Taskbar after confirming that the regular Galaxy interface is active. If no Taskbar result or Taskbar style entry appears, the cited instructions do not support promising that the device has the feature. Record the model and One UI version before assuming the option was removed or renamed.

5. Treat capitalization as cosmetic
Samsung’s guide writes Stay on screen, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 community post writes Stay on Screen. The capitalization difference does not describe two separate modes; look for the option that keeps the bar displayed.

Samsung’s DeX support information also notes that DeX for PC is not supported on models running Android 15 with One UI 7 or later. That is a compatibility limit for connecting DeX to a computer. It is not evidence about whether a taskbar remains visible on every DeX mode, monitor connection or Galaxy device.
If DeX for PC is unavailable, changing the regular Galaxy Taskbar style will not restore that PC connection. Resolve the operating-system and One UI compatibility issue separately from taskbar visibility.

A practical decision guide
Choose Stay on screen when
- You are using the ordinary Galaxy phone or tablet interface.
- The device exposes Settings > Display > Taskbar > Taskbar style.
- You want the taskbar present while apps are open.
Do not rely on that switch when
- A DeX desktop is active.
- Your model or One UI version does not show a Taskbar menu.
- You are troubleshooting DeX for PC support on Android 15 with One UI 7 or later.
Before contacting Samsung support
- Write down the Galaxy model.
- Record the Android and One UI versions.
- Note whether the screen is in regular Galaxy mode or DeX.
- Record whether navigation uses gestures or on-screen buttons.
- Describe whether you want the bar to remain visible or to hide it; those are different requests.
Those details let support distinguish a missing regular-Galaxy setting from a DeX-specific behavior instead of sending you through the wrong menu.
What the published guidance establishes
For supported Galaxy devices in regular mode, Stay on screen is the documented way to keep the taskbar visible while using apps. Samsung’s One UI 6.0 material limits Auto hide to gesture-navigation users and states that the feature is not supported in DeX mode. Device-specific Samsung Members guidance confirms the same menu path on Galaxy Z Fold8 devices, but Samsung’s published material does not establish an identical taskbar-visibility control for every model, One UI release or DeX configuration.
