A product rename does not, by itself, require a Salesforce integration change. Keep the connection working by comparing the vendor’s official rename or migration notice with the values actually configured in Salesforce: the OAuth client, callback URL, authorization and token endpoints, scopes, credentials, OAuth flow, and API version. Change and reauthorize only the values the vendor confirms have changed, then test the real synchronization workflow.
Handle Salesforce’s separate platform change independently. As of Spring ’26, Salesforce restricts creation of new Connected Apps and recommends External Client Apps for new integrations, while existing Connected Apps can continue to operate. That recommendation is not evidence that an existing integration must be migrated because an AI product changed its public name.
What a rename can—and cannot—change
Software vendors often change a display name, logo, website copy, or packaging without changing the OAuth application or API that Salesforce uses. A name shown to users is not the same thing as an OAuth client ID, client secret, redirect URI, scope, hostname, or API version.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →There are two distinct situations:
- Brand-only rename: the vendor changes its public name, but the existing OAuth client, endpoints, callback URL, scopes, credentials, and token behavior remain valid. No Salesforce edit is normally needed.
- Technical migration: the vendor introduces a new OAuth application, callback URL, authorization or token endpoint, required scope, credential, API host, API version, or flow. The Salesforce configuration and possibly the vendor-side registration must then be coordinated.
The renamed AI product in this guide is not identified, so no product-specific client ID, endpoint, deadline, or migration requirement can be assumed. The vendor’s current notice and setup instructions are the authority for those details.

Start with an evidence-based change check
Do not edit a working integration merely because a new name appears in an email or user interface. Use this sequence before touching production settings.
- Find the vendor’s primary notice. Locate the official rename announcement, integration release notes, and current Salesforce setup page. Prefer a page that explicitly lists migration actions, dates, retired endpoints, or new credentials.
- Classify the change. Write down whether the notice describes only a display-name change or also mentions a new OAuth application, client ID, secret or certificate, redirect URI, authorization endpoint, token endpoint, scope, API host, API version, or OAuth flow.
- Check for retirement dates. A future shutdown of an old endpoint or application is a technical change even if the product name change is the headline. Record the date and the affected environment.
- Compare the notice with your live configuration. Confirm that the values named by the vendor match what Salesforce and the integration are using. If the notice is silent about a value, do not infer that it changed.
- Open a change record. Capture the current, known-good values, the proposed values, the owner of each setting, the planned window, test evidence, and rollback steps.
Inventory the Salesforce and vendor configuration
Before editing, make a complete inventory. The same integration can have settings in Salesforce, a vendor administration console, an integration server, and a secret store. A partial inventory is a common cause of failed reauthorization.
| Configuration item | What to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Salesforce app registration | Whether the integration uses a Connected App or External Client App; app label; owner; environment | Identifies the Salesforce authorization object and its lifecycle. |
| OAuth client identity | Client ID or consumer key, and where the secret or certificate is stored | A new vendor application may require a new client identity and coordinated credential rotation. |
| OAuth flow | Authorization flow in use, including whether it is an OAuth Username Password flow | Flow compatibility determines whether an app can be migrated to an External Client App. |
| Callback or redirect URL | Every configured URI and the exact URI sent at runtime | Salesforce requires the runtime redirect URI to match a configured callback URL. |
| Scopes and permission policy | Requested scopes, permitted users, and any consent or approval policy | A changed scope can cause consent prompts or authorization failures. |
| Authorization and token endpoints | Exact URLs, including host and path | A host or path change can break login or token refresh even when the Salesforce app is unchanged. |
| API host and version | Base URL, API version, and any vendor-specific service endpoint | Retired versions or moved services can produce endpoint errors after a migration. |
| Token behavior | Access-token lifetime, refresh-token handling, storage, and revocation behavior | Existing sessions may keep working until a token expires, hiding a required migration. |
Store secrets securely and redact them from tickets, screenshots, and change records. Record identifiers and locations, not secret values, unless your approved secret-management process requires otherwise.
Verify the callback URL exactly
The callback URL is the OAuth redirect URI: after authorization, the service sends the browser back to this address. Salesforce’s setup guidance says that the value supplied at runtime must match one of the callback URLs configured for the app. Even a difference in scheme, host, path, capitalization where the service treats it as significant, port, or trailing slash can cause a mismatch.

Salesforce documents HTTPS or an accepted custom URI scheme for the described callback use. See Salesforce’s OAuth settings guidance for the configuration requirements.
- Copy the callback URI from the vendor’s current setup instructions, not from an old bookmark or screenshot.
- Compare it character by character with the URI configured in the Salesforce app.
- Check the URI that the integration actually sends during authorization. The configured value and runtime value must agree.
- If the vendor lists more than one URI for production, sandbox, or regional tenants, configure only the environments you use and document which one maps to each org.
- Save the change only after confirming that the vendor side accepts the same URI.
Salesforce Help explains that a Connected App can be reconfigured, including its callback URL and OAuth settings. Use the instructions at Reconfigure a Connected App rather than creating an unnecessary second app.
Decide whether credentials or authorization must change
A new client ID, secret, certificate, callback URL, scope, or OAuth flow usually requires coordinated updates. The vendor may need to register the new Salesforce app, while Salesforce or the integration runtime may need the vendor’s new client details. Do not assume that changing one side is sufficient.

When a change is confirmed, use this controlled sequence:
- Prepare a non-production path. Use a Salesforce sandbox or vendor test tenant when the integration supports one. Confirm that the test environment has the same OAuth flow and representative permissions.
- Coordinate ownership. Identify who can edit the Salesforce app, who controls the vendor registration, and who can deploy the integration runtime or secret update.
- Back up the working state. Export or record the current non-secret settings, app type, scopes, callback URI, endpoint values, and credential references. Preserve a tested rollback value.
- Apply the smallest required edit. Change only the values named by the vendor. Avoid unrelated scope, permission, or flow changes in the same window.
- Update both sides in the required order. Follow the vendor’s migration sequence if it specifies one. Otherwise, arrange a brief overlap or maintenance window so that a new credential can be tested before the old one is retired.
- Authorize a test identity. Complete the OAuth flow with a controlled user or service identity and confirm that the resulting token can perform the intended operations.
- Promote after validation. Move the same documented change to production, then monitor authentication and synchronization logs.
Test the integration through its real workflow
An OAuth login that succeeds does not prove that synchronization works. Test the operations the integration performs in production, using safe records or a sandbox where possible.
| Test | Expected result | Failure evidence to capture |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization start | The integration opens the vendor’s expected authorization endpoint and returns to the exact configured callback URI. | Browser error, invalid redirect, wrong host, or unexpected consent screen. |
| Token exchange | The authorization code or assertion is exchanged for a token without a client or scope error. | HTTP status, error code, endpoint, and timestamp; never record the token itself. |
| Token refresh | A refresh or renewal occurs according to the integration’s normal schedule. | Expired-token, invalid-client, revoked-token, or certificate errors. |
| Representative read | The integration can retrieve the Salesforce objects or fields it needs. | Permission, scope, object, field, API-version, or endpoint error. |
| Representative write or sync | A controlled create, update, or synchronization completes once and produces the expected downstream result. | Validation failure, duplicate, mapping error, timeout, or partial completion. |
| Retry and recovery | A transient failure is logged and retried without creating duplicate records. | Repeated writes, silent drops, queue buildup, or missing alerts. |
Review Salesforce logs and the vendor’s integration logs together. Correlate timestamps, user or service identity, endpoint, and error code. Common clues include an invalid callback, insufficient scope, an unauthorized client, an expired secret or certificate, and a request sent to a retired API version.
Keep Salesforce’s Spring ’26 app change separate
Salesforce’s OAuth documentation states: “Creating connected apps is restricted as of Spring ‘26. You can continue to use existing connected apps during and after Spring ‘26. However, we recommend using external client apps instead.” Read the full guidance in Authorization Through External Client Apps or Connected Apps and OAuth 2.0.

This creates a separate decision from an AI product rename:
| Situation | Practical implication |
|---|---|
| Existing Connected App still works and the vendor has made only a brand change | Continue using it, monitor the integration, and do not migrate solely because of the new name. |
| New integration after the Spring ’26 restriction | Evaluate an External Client App as Salesforce’s recommended direction for new OAuth integrations. |
| Existing integration needs a vendor-driven technical change | First update the required OAuth or endpoint values; assess app migration as a separate project. |
| Existing Connected App is a candidate for migration | Verify its OAuth flow, permissions, org eligibility, and test path before scheduling a cutover. |
Salesforce’s migration guidance identifies an important incompatibility: a Connected App that uses the OAuth Username Password flow cannot be migrated to an External Client App because that flow is not supported there. Check the actual flow before planning a migration; the details are in Salesforce’s Connected App migration setup guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choose the least risky path
Use the following decision framework after inventorying the configuration.
| Observed condition | Recommended path | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Only the display name, logo, or marketing copy changed; all technical values match. | Keep the current Salesforce app and tokens. Update internal documentation and monitor. | No evidence indicates that OAuth or API behavior changed. |
| The vendor changed a callback URL, endpoint, scope, credential, or client. | Coordinate the documented value changes, authorize a test identity, and promote after workflow testing. | The integration depends on the changed technical value. |
| The vendor is retiring the old client or API on a stated date. | Plan a time-bound migration with overlap, testing, monitoring, and rollback. | Waiting until retirement can turn a controlled change into an outage. |
| You are creating a new integration. | Evaluate an External Client App under Salesforce’s Spring ’26 guidance. | Salesforce recommends External Client Apps for new integrations. |
| The existing app uses the OAuth Username Password flow. | Do not assume it can migrate to an External Client App; assess an alternative supported flow and redesign implications. | Salesforce states that this flow is unsupported in the target app type. |
Balance five factors in the change record: the scope of the vendor change, OAuth-flow compatibility, production downtime risk, ownership of credentials and callback settings, and the availability of a test and rollback path.

Troubleshoot common post-rename failures
| Symptom | Likely area | Action |
|---|---|---|
| “Invalid redirect URI” or callback mismatch | Callback URL differs between runtime, vendor settings, and Salesforce. | Compare the complete strings, correct the authoritative configuration, and repeat authorization. |
| “Invalid client” or unauthorized client | Wrong client ID, retired client, or vendor registration not updated. | Confirm which client the vendor now requires and update the matching secret or certificate reference. |
| Consent succeeds but API calls return forbidden or insufficient scope | Required scope or Salesforce permission policy changed. | Compare the vendor’s required scopes with the app settings and authorize again if the consent set changed. |
| Login works but refresh fails later | Refresh-token policy, certificate, secret, or token endpoint changed. | Inspect refresh timing and endpoint errors; do not diagnose from the initial login alone. |
| Requests return not found, unsupported version, or endpoint errors | API host, path, or version was retired or changed. | Compare the runtime request with the vendor’s current endpoint and supported API version. |
| Only production fails while sandbox works | Environment-specific callback, credential, host, permission, or tenant setting. | Diff the production and test inventories rather than copying secrets or assuming the environments are identical. |
| Records duplicate after retry | Retry or idempotency behavior changed during the migration. | Stop automated writes if necessary, preserve logs, reconcile affected records, and confirm the vendor’s retry guidance before resuming. |
Plan rollback and document the final state
A rollback is more than restoring a Salesforce field. If the vendor has already switched to a new client or callback URL, reverting only Salesforce can leave both sides inconsistent.
- Define the exact previous values that remain valid and the time window in which they can be restored.
- Keep the old credential reference available until post-change tests and monitoring show stable operation, unless the vendor requires immediate revocation.
- Record which users, service identities, tokens, certificates, and endpoints were changed.
- Set an owner and deadline for removing superseded credentials after the migration is proven.
- Document test records, expected outcomes, log locations, and the person authorized to stop synchronization.
After the change, update the integration runbook with the final app type, flow, callback URL, scopes, endpoint versions, ownership, renewal process, and vendor support link. This prevents the next product rename from becoming an emergency investigation.
Use an architecture that limits rename-related disruption
Salesforce describes common integration approaches and their trade-offs in its Integration Patterns guidance. The relevant lesson is operational: keep authentication, transformation, retries, and business writes observable and separable enough that a credential or endpoint change can be tested without changing every downstream workflow at once.

- Keep environment-specific endpoints and credentials outside application code.
- Use a controlled secret store and restrict who can read or rotate credentials.
- Log authentication failures and API errors with correlation IDs, but never log access tokens or client secrets.
- Monitor token refresh, queue depth, retry counts, and synchronization lag—not just the initial login.
- Prefer a sandbox or test tenant for OAuth and representative data-flow tests before production changes.
- Maintain a written owner for the Salesforce app and a separate owner for the vendor registration.
A concise operational checklist
- Read the vendor’s current rename and migration notice.
- Separate public-name changes from technical changes.
- Inventory app type, OAuth flow, client identity, callback URI, scopes, endpoints, API version, and token behavior.
- Compare callback URLs character by character and verify the runtime value.
- Preserve the known-good configuration and a reversible change plan.
- Change only vendor-confirmed technical values.
- Reauthorize only when a changed client, credential, scope, callback, flow, or endpoint requires it.
- Test authorization, token refresh, representative reads, writes, retries, and monitoring.
- Assess External Client App migration separately from the rename, especially if the current flow is OAuth Username Password.
- Document ownership, final settings, retirement dates, and rollback authority.
