If you want to hear game audio through your TV while using a compatible headset for voice chat, go to Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Output to Headphones and select Chat Audio. Sony lists Chat Audio as the default. Selecting All Audio sends all PS4 system sound to the headset; Sony’s instructions do not describe a universal PS4 option that duplicates all game audio to both the TV and headset.
For full game sound from both the TV speakers and headphones, whether that works depends on the TV, the PS4 model, and how the headphones connect.
Choose what you want to hear in the headset
The PS4’s Output to Headphones setting determines what audio goes to a compatible headset. Sony documents two choices: Chat Audio and All Audio. Sony’s PS4 audio output instructions identify Chat Audio as the default. With that selected, chat goes to the headset while the primary output—often the TV—continues to carry the rest of the console’s audio.

- All Audio: Use this when you want PS4 system audio, including game sound, sent to the compatible headset. It is not a TV-and-headset duplication setting.
Sony’s Gold Wireless Headset manual also describes listening to game and chat audio simultaneously through that headset. What a headset supports can vary, so check its instructions if you need both types of audio in it.

Set the PS4 to send chat to your headset
- Connect and turn on your compatible headset.
- On the PS4, open Settings > Devices > Audio Devices.
- Select Output to Headphones, then choose Chat Audio.
- Check whether game sound is coming from the TV and chat from the headset. If you instead want all PS4 audio in the headset, return to the same setting and choose All Audio.
The exact result depends on the connected headset and the rest of the audio setup. Sony’s guidance establishes the routing choices, not a universal way to duplicate all game audio through HDMI and a headset at once.
Get game audio from both TV speakers and headphones
This is usually a TV-output question rather than a PS4 setting. Sony says some TV models can play through their speakers and a connected headphone or audio device at the same time, but the supported arrangement depends on the TV model and connection. On some models, a headphone jack, HDMI, or Bluetooth connection prevents simultaneous speaker output.

- Look up the sound settings and audio-output capabilities for your exact TV model in its manual.
- Check whether the TV supports speaker output while sending audio to the connection your headphones or transmitter uses.
- Use the connection specified by the TV manufacturer. Sony describes a supported arrangement using the TV’s optical digital output and a headphone transmitter, but this is not guaranteed to work with every model.
Confirm the TV supports the arrangement before buying a transmitter or other accessory. A TV’s headphone output may mute its speakers, and changing PS4 settings cannot override that hardware behavior.
Check whether your PS4 has optical audio
Some audio equipment connects to the PS4’s DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) port. On a PS4 with that port, Sony lists the path as Settings > Sound and Screen > Audio Output Settings > Primary Output Port > DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL). The receiving device must also have a compatible optical input and support the audio format being sent.

The CUH-2000 series does not have an optical digital output terminal, according to Sony’s PS4 audio output documentation. Check the model number on your console before planning an optical connection. A TOSLINK cable only connects compatible optical ports; it does not, by itself, make the TV and headset play simultaneously.
Consider an HDMI audio extractor only after checking compatibility
An HDMI audio extractor with optical output may provide another connection route when the PS4 and audio equipment do not have matching ports. Compatibility is not established for any particular extractor here, so verify the complete signal path before choosing one:

- Whether the PS4 model, TV, and audio device have the required connections.
- Whether the extractor passes the TV’s required resolution and HDR signals.
- Whether it supports HDCP and the audio formats accepted by the receiving device.
Sony warns that an HDMI-connected device that is incompatible with HDCP can prevent PS4 video and audio output. HDCP can be disabled for gameplay, but Blu-ray, DVD, and DRM-protected streaming video require it to be enabled. Do not assume an extractor will work for every PS4 use just because its ports appear to match.
Choose an audio format your equipment supports
Sony lists Linear PCM as the default under Settings > Sound and Screen > Audio Output Settings > Audio Format (Priority). If you use third-party audio equipment, check its supported input formats before changing the setting. Sony cautions that selecting an unsupported output format may result in no sound and could damage speakers that cannot handle it.

Troubleshoot missing TV or headset audio
- The TV goes silent when you connect the headset: Check Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Output to Headphones. If it is set to All Audio, try Chat Audio to keep game sound on the primary output.
- You cannot find an optical port on the console: Confirm the model number. The CUH-2000 series lacks DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL).
- The TV speakers stop when headphones connect to the TV: Check the TV’s manual and sound menu for simultaneous speaker and headphone output. The connection type or TV model may prevent it.
- A connected receiver or headset has no sound: Check that its supported audio formats match the PS4’s Audio Format (Priority) selection.
- HDMI video or audio is missing: Check whether an HDMI-connected device is HDCP-compatible. Disabling HDCP is limited to gameplay; protected discs and DRM streaming require HDCP enabled.
