To keep a YouTube channel active with scheduled livestreams, choose a repeatable time you can sustain, schedule each event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, and share its watch page so viewers can opt into reminders. After each broadcast, check the archive and organize useful replays. Scheduling can create a reliable routine and reminder opportunities, but it does not guarantee more views, subscribers, or monetization.
Build a schedule you can keep
Choose a recurring time that fits your production capacity and audience. A weekly or monthly event is useful only if you can prepare for it consistently; YouTube does not promise a particular cadence will improve reach. Tell viewers what to expect in your channel descriptions, Community posts, and other channels you control.
Give each livestream a distinct purpose
Plan a specific reason for each broadcast, such as a Q&A, demonstration, office hour, walkthrough, event, or topical discussion. A consistent series can still offer different substance each time. This matters for viewers and for monetization: YouTube’s channel monetization policy identifies repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content,” and says videos should be materially varied and offer creative, educational, or other value. The policy page notes an update dated July 15, 2025 (YouTube channel monetization policies).

YouTube’s general live-stream requirements include a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a minimum age of 16. A restriction can prevent live streaming for 14 days after a strike; using another channel to get around an active restriction is not allowed. YouTube also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key at the same time. Check the current requirements in Get started with live streaming.

If you plan to stream from a phone
Mobile live streaming has additional requirements: at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and a compatible device. First activation may take up to 24 hours. These are mobile-specific conditions, not requirements for every streaming method. See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Schedule the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Manage.
- Schedule a stream: Create the upcoming livestream and set its date and time. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers scheduling and managing streams.
- Review the details: Check the title, description, visibility, audience setting, date, and time. Reusing appropriate settings can save setup time, but confirm they still fit this event.
- Choose a streaming method: YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder workflows. An encoder is optional; use the route that fits your production. If you stream with an encoder, follow YouTube’s setup instructions for the server URL and stream key in its encoder guide.
- Test before the event: Check the selected streaming method and production setup before your scheduled start. Treat your stream key like a password; do not share or publish it.
Promote the scheduled watch page
Share the scheduled stream’s watch page before it begins, with a short explanation of what viewers will get from the event. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear to subscribers as upcoming, and viewers can choose Notify me to receive a reminder. A schedule creates a chance for viewers to opt in; it does not ensure they will be notified or attend. See Promote your live stream.

Run the event and protect the replay
End at a planned time and keep a local recording if the replay matters to you. YouTube can automatically archive streams that are under 12 hours, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as a backup (Archive live streams).

- In YouTube Studio, check that the replay exists and verify its visibility rather than assuming it is public.
- If appropriate, adjust visibility and add the replay to a playlist that matches its topic.
- Review audience response and analytics before changing the schedule or format. Use what viewers actually did to guide adjustments; cadence alone is not evidence of growth.
Understand what scheduling does—and does not—do for monetization
Eligible channels may have access to ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships. Eligibility applies, and ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. YouTube reports that creators choosing live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour. The comparison is between channels with and without live automatic mid-roll ads, across 207 countries in January 2024; it concerns ad revenue per hour, not audience growth or the effect of scheduling.
